renewa29: A lot of comments are not addressing the substance of the matter.
Do they want content to be re-routed through the free TV scheme or are they complaining that the GOTV license is in contravention of the new digital satellite rules?
This is why NL will hardly grow. A lot of folks make unintelligent comments. They are lazy to find out the facts of the matter and will rather make dumb statements.
I believe this is part of the case of trying to break the stronghold of DSTV and its partners. Secondly, the world is switching to Digital Switch Over (DSO) which implies among others that coys like DSTV will not have the "exclusive rights" like they used to.The govt had written them about 2yrs ago informing them that their license on expiration will not be renewed in this form, but rather they will go through one of the companies granted license for Digital platforms.
The suspicion is that this GOTV license renewal is fraudulent and that is what Lai Mohammed is stopping. It negates the objective of the DSO
naptu2: This game was very important to me because it helped me overcome a bereavement.
Richard Owubokiri was the highest goal scorer in the Portuguese league in 1992 and Rashidi Yekini was the highest goal scorer in Portugal in 1993/1994, so I wanted to see both of them play together.
Many Nigerians believed that Owubokiri's style did not suit the Super Eagles, but I wasn't so sure, so I wanted to see him play.
This was the first ever match between Nigeria and South Africa. It took place at the National Stadium in Lagos on October 10, 1992.
Owubokiri scored the first goal via a header.
Samson Siasia extended our lead.
Rashidi Yekini then scored 2 goals to extend the lead. Samson Siasia controlled an incredibly high ball in order to provide the assist for the 4th goal. It ended
Talknochip: Good event by NFF.... If you (ever) play street football or any other one, you will understand what Oliseh said about 'Fight' with Okocha.. Mehn, there is always that one player that loves to dribble, loves holding the ball and annoys everybody including the opponent.. Sometimes, you will be tempted to join the opponents to attack him too..
Bros, I feel you here. I remember Taju in primary school and Tosin in Secondary School. These two guys played as if dribbling was more than scoring.
Boyooosa: This happened when 80% or 90% of the team were local players and even some were recruited from eleruku field if u know what i mean but if not, ask that guy with d mic gan gan or better still, u can searcj for this on google; I picked oliseh from gutter, by westerhof. He did not intend to dehumanize oliseh but was only expressing how it feels to build a team of such magnimous and fantastic outing/performance. They tagged them from Grass to Grace!
1. Daniel Amokachi was discovered at Government College Kaduna 2. Sunday Oliseh was discovered in Festac. He barely started his pre-degree in LASU then
naptu2: It's 25 years since the BBC World Service annoyed me.
I muted the TV and listened to commentaries on the BBC World Service Radio. The commentators were clearly supporting the Zambians. I don't know if it was because the Zambians were the underdogs or if it was because of the plane crash, but it annoyed me.
It also gave me greater satisfaction when we eventually won the match and the cup.
There was sentiments on the side of the Zambians, who had lost their team to an ill-fated air crash and had to rebuild another team for the tournament. They had a lot of help from the Brits, John Fashanu helped them to recruit the coach.
naptu2: I lost my voice and I could have sworn that my heart stopped beating during this game.
This was a game between the two most star studded teams in the competition. They were probably the two best teams in Africa at that time.
The 1994 Super Eagles team needs no introduction, so I'll tell you about the Ivorians.
They had the African legend, Abdoulaye Traore as their captain. They also had one of the best goalkeepers in Alaine Gouamene (who we renamed Allan Quartermaine).
They had Joel Tiehi and the Atletico Madrid star, Serge Alaine Maguy. They also had a young Ahmed Ouattara on the bench.
But I had never heard of Michel Basole before and he was the person that almost killed me on that day. He scored both of Ivory Coast's goals.
Thank heavenly God for Ben Iroha. Iroha injured both Michel Basole and Abdoulaye Traore (they both had to be substituted) and he only got a yellow card.
Not only did Iroha take out both of the Ivorian's danger men, but he also combined beautifully with Yekini to score the first goal (yes, a defender scored our equaliser). Then Yekini scored the equaliser for us.
The rest of the game became a crazy battle between Yekini and Gouamene. Alaine Gouamene showed why he was one of the best goalkeepers in Africa at that time. There was nothing that Yekini did not do, but Gouamene was always in his way.
This led to that famous shot of Westerhof asking God, "Why?"
It was 2-2 at the end of extra time, so the game went to penalties. Westerhof said that he decided that Yekini must take the last penalty because he had the most missed chances.
Of course Yekini scored and took Nigeria to the final.
Let me add more perspective to this 1. Ivory Coast had taken out Ghana, one of the tournament favorites and strongest team in Africa 2. Abdolaye Traore (one of my favorite players) was at his peak. His diving header winning goal that took out Ghana was classic 3. Ivory Coast had the strongest midfield in that tournament. Probably one of the reasons we were shocked in the first half. 4. I too never heard of Basole until then 5. When Oliseh talked about players ahead of their time, one classic example was Ben Iroha. I think he started out as a midfielder till CW converted him to the left back. This was a wing-back when football was yet to know anything called wing-back. One of the reasons why the SE attack was powerful was that a couple of midfielders and defenders like Iroha had high-rate running and joined both the attack and defending at will. This I believe was the Dutch philosophy infused into Nigerian/Brazilina flare of the Super Eagles by CW and Bonfere Jo. 6. I believe this was the game that we discovered that JJ Okocha should actually be a regular rather than a bench player. Recal that prior to that, JJ (then yet to be matured) was given to too much dribling and sometimes not too productive, making CW to bench him. In this game, he brought out his creativity. Not only did himself and Oliseh combined to win the battle in the middle, his dribbling and passing this time was creative and troubled the Ivorians a lot. 7. I could have sworn that it was JJ Okocha that gave Iroha that pass that led to our first goal and not Yekini. I think the commentator got it wrong. 8. Oliseh could deliver a long distance pass from any distance. Did you see that pass to Finidi which led to the second goal? 9. This was a team built around the big boss- Stephen Keshi. Keshi was an inspiration to this team and to Nigerians. Keshi nutured and led this boys. Keshi battled the authorities on behalf of this team several times. I heard Keshi once asked Alex Akinyele (the then Sports Minister) to "excuse" (leave) the dressing room during the half-time of a match as the team needed to "concentrate". Keshi it was who will call, visit players in their clubs and countries to make sure they are well prepared for matches. Keshi it was that refused to "listen" to his club, opting to come to play a Super Eagles match against the club's position. Heard he lost his captainship of the club then, and he didn't bulge. Keshi had an injury around 1993, he didn't recover early enough and lost form; coupled with the fact that age had caught up on him. His dip in form showed in this game and he had to be replaced. So during this tournament, he was limited to few games.

For those of you less than 30; You cannot appreciate what we felt with this team
1. Did you see that Sunday Oliseh's lob/pass to Yekini for that goal? Sunday Oliseh delivered many of such a long pass from 60m to Yekini's feet. I can now understand "na si mi" 2. That was the era when SE went into a game and fans will CONFIDENTLY be expecting nothing less than 3-0 3. An era when this issue was not wether Rashidi Yekini will score...but "how many?"
Ps
Aumbameyang's father was in that game; defender for the Gabonese. One other name that stuck with me then was Guy Roger
psucc: You can do well to search for Onnoghen's responds to those charges. Even the said Joe Agi also made a statement to that effect.
Bros,
Anybody can put up a statement of defense but if the panel of judges (NJC) deemed both (Onnoghen & Agi's) defence as unacceptable, then they have not controverted the claim. It's that logically simple.
I heard Onnoghen's claim of gifts for his daughter's wedding. That in itself is absurd, because judges have "signed" to some form of separation. Judges do know not to collect such gifts because it will compromise their positions and can never be defended. Is the $1m+ a gift? I also wonder who made Onnoghen's bank account number available to Joe Agi and why didn't Onnoghen return such funds on discovery? When Bisi Akande was governor of Osun State. Some state funds "mixed" with the expenses for his daughter's wedding without his knowledge. On discovery, Gov Akande issued a cheque, refunding back into the state coffers. A retired chief judge did not even attend the reception and party of his daughter's wedding.
Ayed44: Let the EFCC also charge Onnoghen to court and let the court decides his fate. Enough of media trial. Also, if the NJC found Onnoghen culpable, let the NJC recommends his prosecution rather than working out soft landing d for him. Giving a corrupt person a soft landing is also corruption and criminal.
I don't understand what you mean by "media trial". EFCC followed the due process by first taking Onnoghen's case to the NJC as stipulated by the law, before any additional steps. Is that media trial? I think you should familiarise yourself with the process.
I agree with your position wrt "soft landing". The reason why PMB has called on Osinbajo to interprete and tell him the implications of the NJC recommendation.
psucc: The word "incontrovertible" is what I do not understand. The CJN explained this, the Bank Statement was made available in the Court and the Registrar of the SC and the bank Staff were interrogated and gave credence to the CJN's claims. Then where comes the "incontrovertibility" of the allegations?
Or is Onnoghen guilty as charged?
You are mixing two things together. The EFCC investigation and allegations are different from what is @CCB. The Minister of Justice is championing the one @CCB.
The EFCC sent its report to NJC. The report showed that;
1. Onnoghen had over a $1m which was not declared 2. That Joe Agi, a lawyer who had had cases before Onnoghen, made $$$ payments into Onnoghen account and the reasons could not be defended.
The NJC gave Onnoghen the freedom to defend/explain these. That he could not..........
So what makes it incontrovertible is that the defense could not defend/puncture the evidence against them.....simply put "He was nabbed red-handed"

ObaMekunnu: Here is a Democrat per excellence who views the absurdity of INEC as a matter of urgent concerns to Nigerians. We should appreciate people who are courageous enough to challenge negative trends in our democracy. Speak up for the hoodwinked masses and someday your lone voice will be heard
Bros,
Except you're talking about someone else.....not this Salis. He lives in my Estate. We voted at the same polling unit for the two elections. During the presidential election, his thugs came and were stopped at the estate gate. People were apprehensive on seeing them and were the more upset when they found out Salis' thugs were trying to gain entrance into the estate. At the previous election when the wife contested for HOR, she thugs came to the Estate as well......
Salis that got 13 votes in his polling unit is complaining meanwhile APC score 129, PDP 60.
FzanyAjibs: For better for worse means a lot to me. The thing is that we have to realize that people change. People would change. And anyone can leave.
Just being open minded would save lots of headache. I wonder if they had kids together.
If they have kids together, that is where the money should go.... endowments, college tuition etc. Your call to open mindedness is highly appreciated. I guess the lady needs to learn that..... we needed not know the guy was a "no-good" & "jobless" just because you're divorced. She should just move on, the ship had left the shore and she's not on it.
cococandy: He will still squander it with his usual lazy way. She’s definitely better off without him.
Look at his fellow lazy bones men trying to make the woman look like the bad person here when she was actually paying him alimony and supporting his jobless ass. You people will never be satisfied with anything a woman does. If she was the one who was collecting money from him while laying around jobless after a divorce, y’all would be hot behind the ears calling her gold digger and ranting about how ‘the west’ gives women everything a man worked for.
Yes the right thing would be for him to compensate her for supporting his lazy ass.
"His lazy ass".... Bleh, Bleh, Bleh......
Call the guy anything..... doesn't matter for now. One would have expected that the honorable thing for the woman to do was to portray his ex in good light, no matter his flaws. We need not know about his "lazy ass". Unfortunately she left when she probably have stayed to help spend/invest the lazy-ass-money.
lefulefu: All this one wey d ex wife dey yarn na wash. She dey obviously look for a way to go back.
Absolutely right. The statement below gave her away
“Think about it. How long did I work? How long did I support him? I had to give him a lot of money in the divorce,” Murray said. “You tell me what’s the moral thing to do.”
The headline is deceptive. Legally, INEC budget money to take care post-election tribunals and court cases. Putting Buhari's name to give an impression that INEC is supporting PMB is just irresponsible journalism..
rentAcock: I was a subcontractor for Julius Berger during the breaking ground of the Lagos badagry railway. It is true that Jonathan spearheaded this modern marvel, however it was Buhari's administration that provided most of the funding. It can be argued that the railway resulted in Buhari's reelection but we should not forget that in 1994 Rashidi Yekini became the first Nigerian player to score in the world cup tournament where we defeated Bulgaria 3-0.
MylezKayn: In addition to that Government should provide incentives for Large scale farmers because in advanced countries, large scale farming is the main business
seanfer: By 2023 Atiku won’t be able to spend like He did in 2019 reason is that the Federal Government will not be renewing Intels contract. That’s 300billion Naira a year contract gone.
This is the reason IMO that I believe went all out for this quest
....and what are we to "compare" and "contrast"? Who told you we need an architectural masterpiece when we are yet to get a functional airport. That is how some of you just make needless comparisons and disparage your country. Airports in SA are basic in Aesthetics, yet their services are comparable to Europe and America.
BigBashiru: Is there a rail link from airport to town?
I think the Idu Station serves both the local and the international Airport. What I think that we can consider in future is to build underground tunnels or overground connections to Idu.... then we're "standard"
He should save the nation that "fair trial". He should save the judiciary the little modicum of honor left. He should simply resign and take the heat away from the judiciary
1. The governor is making a political statement and not an "Oil & Gas economic statements". A Governor cannot just announce oil discovery...and say exploration is about to start. 2. The presence of Oil rig in a locality does not automatically translate to oil discovery. 3. A state will ideally not fund Oil exploration. So who are the people behind it the said "exploration"?
We should be careful with some of these political statements........ Oil disc
