3 ceiling fan at 80W each = 240W

10 LED light bulb at 20W each = 200W

Dstv decoder at Max 40W

LED TV at Max 65W

Phone charger = Negligible

Freezer at 1000w


Approximately 1700Wh

Remember, these are not absolute figures but exaggerated estimates of your load.

It is usually better to over estimate the load than to run out of juice during a crucial football match.

For effective and efficient glitch free running of you home if we are running the freezer only during daylight , you will require

1- A 1.7kva Microtek inverter at Max 70k

2- 4 batteries of 12v 200ah connected in series and parallel to get 24v at 100k each

3- 6 pieces of 280W 24v or higher solar panels ( monocrystalline preferably) connected in 3 series of two's and then paralleled for higher current. at Max 40k each.

4-60A mppt solar charge controller at 80 to 120k

We are looking at about 850k, for you to retire your generating set permanently.

Remember that most of the prices are inflated as the overall cost for people who reside in Lagos may eventually be less.

The biggest power drain on your list is the freezer. Do you intend to run it 24/7 or for the daylight period only?

I will advice you start small and upgrade with time and available resources.

Though the proponents of flooded batteries will come for my jugular, I will advice you use AGM batteries only(SLA) as they are maintenance free and do not need frequent topping with distilled water.

To partner with the sun, what you really need will depend largely on what you want to power(load).

To list the items verbatim :

1 appropriate inverter size
2. Battery bank ( AGM batteries)
3. Mppt solar charge controller
4 commensurate solar panels

By 6pm on most days I have generated between 4.7 to 5.2 kwh/d with 4 fully charged batteries (on float mode by 12:30pm) to carry me for the next 12 hours.

I only switch off the AC at 11pm but run all fans (4 pieces of 50w binatone standing fans) till day break (tdb)

I bought the setup piece meal.

Started by buying the inverter and 4 batteries .

Then visited Arena shopping complex in Lagos when I traveled for a workshop there I saw some 2nd hand imported solar panels from America. 250w 30v each and I waybilled 8 pieces at 40k each back to my state via God is good transport company.

I did over 60 percent of the installation so the cost was minimal .

The charge controller is called epever 60A solar charge controller.

You will need 8 pieces of 250w 24 - 30v solar panels and 4 AGM batteries to really "partner with the sun " .

Don't forget that your AC and fridge / freezer must be inverter type.

I will advice everybody to generate their own electricity by investing in Solar Powered System.

I live off grid not by volition but by compulsion because I became tired of recurring excuses on why I can't get 24hours power.

I have taken charge of my destiny and I can assure you that it pays to be in partnership with the sun.

Below is the LED screen of my solar charge controller few minutes ago with my A. C. , TV and fans running wild since morning ( not a church person) .

The sun has never given me an excuse since "I went rogue" on my disco . I generate enough energy to also charge a 12v inverter I use as "supporting striker" for my TV and fans in the bedroom.

Its been fun with these cuties.

They are an amalgam of shady, cunning, domineering, stubborn, and submissive characters.

These puppies are innately potty trained as they always wait for me to open the door in the morning and they all scamper in different directions to relieve themselves.

They are also socializing well and I am already beginning to instill some regulations on them like not digging the ground and staying within the perimeter of their kennel.

Yes, it is not in the books. It is not accepted yet by many kennel clubs in many nations including the AKC. That it exists and is known to some, doesn't mean it is a registered and accepted breed.

However, the catch here is that the air conditioner is LG inverter A.C.

This A.C. can even be powered by "I better pass my neighbor " generator.

I didn't do the mix, I only got this as a gift from the litter of 7 after caring for them due to mother's demise.

I only do German shepherd .

Infact, I am pained letting it go because of the hard work that went down for their survival.

On the 25th of November 2018, I went totally off grid after about 6 months of running my inverter on generator and I must admit that the toil was worthwhile.

I have not ran my house ever since on generator as my solar arrays do the charging for me and that it does more efficiently than the generator.

The purpose of creating this thread is to encourage us to embrace green technology and de-emphasize the use of fossil fuels which viciously engender global warming and hence the heat pervading the land.

Many have made jokes about the current heat wave as : the exhaust of hell facing Nigeria , or Angel Gabriel test running hell fire for Nigeria politicians but this does not dissuade from the fact that we all bear the harsh realities of our mismanagement of the environment.

Today I generated the biggest power
haul from my solar system at 5Kwhd and I ran my cooling systems at full blast oblivious of the weather outside .

I post a picture of the LED screen of my solar charge controller taken some minutes to 6pm as proof.

Engage experts so you don't join the legion of disgruntled people who have had their hard earned money wasted on substandard solar equipment which fails before the expiration of their warranty.

The black recessive gene in both parents must be responsible for their dominant black colour I guess.

Hope to breed only black German Shepard dogs in my kennel.

Good question.

The first thought that came up my mind was to call in my vet to have her euthanized but on combing the net for knowledge, I discovered she could actually have a quality life even with the disability.

I have decided to keep this queen for myself and nurture her to its fullest potential.
