@FreestufsNG

I completely agree. It's just upsetting seeing how it seems the Governor is attempting to review a SC judgement to the disadvantage of the judgement winners. All those who originally cheated the land owners need to be prosecuted. It's so so unfair. Imagine if the judgement winners had lost at the SC, would the Governor had given them same protection he is giving those who benefited from the injustice meted to the true owners of the land.

You are spot on. You are in the know.

Similar to the Adeshiba (Olopake) vs. Ojora case. Justice Oguntade. cool One of the biggest and glaring land fraud cases in the history of Lagos State. Judicial system is a joke. The supreme court is the last hope for a lot of land owners in Lagos.

Bros eh! after reading the whole 5 pages I decided you are the only one worth replying. I have always told people that wants to hear, Buhari is never the problem of Nigerians the same way previous and future presidents will never be. Nigerians are the problem of Nigerians, you can bookmark this reply Nigerians will still get it wrong in voting come 2023 notwithstanding these hardships and sufferings everyone is passing through now, look at people that suppose to be the leaders can't even think above primordial sentiments, nepotism and tribalism but these set of people are the ones dying of hunger, poor healthcare, bad roads, insecurity etc but come during voting the same tribal card being played since time immemorial will surface again. Nigerians are cursed I am saying this from the place of bitterness, if we can't get it right why not divide? Everyday I read on the front page and news about worse happenings in the God forsaken country I try to pinch myself if this will make them be serious about living but NO an average Nigerian is not only poor in thinking but also in decision-making, just imagine people here arguing about innoson and court processes yet none of them wants to be enlightened for the betterment of Nigeria tomorrow they will blame Abike dabiri for not saving Itunu or blame Nigeria diplomats for not showing up for citizens when infact the populace are the actual problem. Sometimes I wish these country youth can be wise but the truth is they can NEVER be it is already late, The president after Buhari can't even better the country the same with the next and next and next until the citizens re-orientate themselves and grew above all these petty sentiments we will keep spinning around like a centrifuge, you think the European/American system that allows even a black man from any part of the world to become council heads and even hold sensitive positions as long as it is merited prefer blacks more than themselves? No but they know that racial and tribal sentiments is only a thing of dark minds and will restrain development.

Thank you for the bolded. That is the reason Africa is lagging behind in development. Majority of us are too emotionally inclined and not rationally inclined. No objectivity. Where does the unnecessary emotional outburst stop? Cos today it is Yoruba, Ibo and Hausa, even if Nigeria gets divided along these ethnic lines, then you will hear..No, he speaks a different dialect, he is not a real Yoruba, Ibo or Hausa. We seriously need to wake up and do away with all this dark sentiments and backwardness and endeavour to assess issues based on merit & substance. There are loads of very educative and interesting topics on here that a lot of people can learn from, but often times, they end up being tribalized and reduced to nothing. Come on people!

Business / Re: One Month After AbokiFX Shutdown, Naira Fails To Rise by MAURI: 11:20am On Oct 17, 2021
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has called on the Central Bank of Nigeria to allow the naira reflect the realities of the market.

The national currency is changing for N411/$ at the official side of the market but N565/$ at the parallel market, which many believe is reflect of the true value.

Speaking at the midterm retreat of President Muhammadu Buhari’s second tenure, the vice-president said the exchange rate is artificially low, and this is deterring investors from bringing foreign exchange into the country.

“As for the exchange rate, I think we need to move our rates to [be] as reflective of the market as possible. This, in my own respective view, is the only way to improve supply,” Osinbajo said.

We can’t get new dollars into the system, where the exchange rate is artificially low. And everyone knows by how much our reserves can grow. I’m convinced that the demand management strategy currently being adopted by the CBN needs a rethink, and that is just my view.
https://www.nairaland.com/6797395/osinbajo-asks-cbn-bow-market

This among others is what the Vice President had to say last week about the exchange rate. This is the Vice President of Nigerian saying this. He is privy to better and more accurate information / data than most Nigerians. He also heads the Presidents economic team.

To put this in perspective, a few weeks earlier, abokifx was taken offline cos it was supposedly encouraging / enhancing speculations against the Naira by publishing higher rates than CBN's / official rates. A few weeks later, the Vice President is echoing / supporting abokifx' position, by saying the Naira is over-valued. What a contradiction! Dig? wink grin Abokifx getting banned for publishing data to support what the Vice President' position.

Somewhere in the VP's statement, he cited an example of a foreign investor bringing in $ into the country say at 420 and in a few weeks is forced to buy the same $ for say 500 and above. So the SPREAD is huge. What this spread indicates is that, (without getting into detailed technical and fundamentals of exchange rates mechanism) there is huge exposure and lack of confidence in the Naira. This is also calculated in the rates. (Volatility / spread)

Further I miss a very vital term: "ARBITRAGE" in this discussion, this is part of what is responsible for the thriving black / parallel market, as it were.

And to those holding the position that the Naira has stabilized or wld have hit $ = 750-1000 Naira had abokifx not been banned, on the former, we are all aware that there is a correlation between the price of crude and Naira exchange rate, right? And we all know what the price of crude has been doing in past weeks? So we need to make this discourse as complete as possible.

And on the later, since we are all here to learn, may I ask how you guys came to the aggregation of between 750-1000?

This is my 2cent on this interesting topic. Thanks all.

Travel / Re: Pilot Fights Passengers Over Max Airline Flight Delay (Video) by MAURI: 9:07pm On Sep 19, 2021
As in ehh..same thing I'm reasoning here..

How can someone make a pilot angry ,same person that will fly them to some high altitude, where there life will now depend on both the pilot and GOD..smh

He allowed himself to be angered. Ego. Passengers have right to complain.

Since when is it the passengers duty to pay for services and then take it upon himself / herself to carry our stress / mental analyses on the service provider? That pilot conducted himself in a very unprofessional manner.

Part of the job is to have empathy and learn to de-escalate such situation. What does he cost him to just ignore the lady or apologize on behalf of his boss who caused the passenger to be angered by not keeping to the time agreement. Of course things happen beyond their control, that is the moment / opportunity for him to stand up and show professionalism by engaging the aggrieved passenger and try calming her and de-escalate the situation. His conduct / reaction only increased the stress and rowdiness of the passengers.

In case he is having any form of instability (emotional or otherwise), the should not be put in a situation to shoulder such responsibilities. As he has shown. No be BRT him dey drive na. grin. Him no even respect him uniform and all those things on his shoulders, acting like an agbero. lol

Na everybody want show themselves for Naija. It wasn't even necessary for him to engage the passengers. The purser should have been able to do that perfectly. Only where there is major disruption or threat, then he can exhibit his executive order.

Wait you agree with CBN knowing that CBN gives forex to politicians on a different rate to what a normal person gets and that is if you get from your bank as it's all fro Dangote .

Until the Naria is left for demand and supply to determine the rate we are wasting out time on any fake forex regulations CBN brings out

Thank you for this. A lot of people commenting on this issue do not have a clue how exchange rate mechanism work.

Banning Aboki is not a policy based decision. It is a cosmetic solution to feed the sentiment of people who believe you can regulate exchange rates by trial and error.

CBN has multiple exchange rates, why is that? The CBN is deliberately creating arbitrage to enrich a few people. If CBN really wants the Naira to stabilize, CBN should have a uniform rate across board. The parallel exchange market exits due to arbitrage created by The CBN.
CBN should leave the Naira to float, at some point it will find it's right rate (determined by the market). All these donkey shot and panic approaches will only create more uncertainties and lack of confidence in the Naira. The CBN does not even have enough FX to meet demand, yet it is subsidizing FX for some people. What is the economic sense in that?

jjman2322:

This is why a good business school is needed in Nigeria.. People dont understand Economics 101

First of all, CBN official rate is like 410, so converting any FX inflow to naira means you will get it at 410... Now let me ask you, your uncle in USA has $10,000 for you. Will you tell him to wire the $10,000 to nigeria for N4,100,000, or will you find a third party who needs to pay his supplier in China,India, and sell it to him for 550 (N5,500,000) ? This is whats basically happening.

As someone in the manufacturing, let me try and explain whats going on. There is severe shortage of USD. Lets assume you need raw materials worth $500,000 for the month, you may be lucky to get $5,000 in a month from your bank/cbn (through LC OR BILL FOR COLLECTION), so you now have to go to blackmarket for the rest.

Abokifx just publishes prevailing rate.. Abokifx is irrelevant when it comes to demand and supply.. Im too tired to explain more, but the solution is simple.. CBN needs to provide more USD to the big companies who need it, and the black market price (REAL DOLLAR PRICE) will drop..

The reason why goods are going up in prices (TV, PHONE, AC, FOOD, etc), even though officially dollar is 410, is because NOBODY IS GETTING 410, or even when they do its minimal.. Yes you can get PTA (Travel allowance) from your bank, but thats only like $4000.

The real problem is when as a manufacturer you need $1m.. Good luck getting that in 10 years....

There is real demand for USD from local companies here for at least $500M a day, and CBN is barely giving 10% of that.. See the problem

How much do you think NESTLE spends daily on USD, or Nigerian breweries... Quick example, indomie is made with tapioca starch, Potasium & sodium carbonate, sodium tripolyphosphate, riboflavin which are imported.. They must probably use $millions weekly just for import... So they go to black market = price jump in finished product... Hope i made some sense..

You have done well with the above explanation. And for the people blaming aboki, so if Aboki publishes on their site that you can buy $ at the rate of 250Naira, you will then go to the market and get it for that price? Just because Aboki has published it at that rate? It is the market that decides the price of Naira to $

I wish I had the time to type. But since the CBN closed the BDC markets, their deals become illegal. All was Abokifx is doing is churn out an artificial market rate. He just sits inflates the price and he creates an artificial rate, the market grabs it. 80% of the people depends on this site for exchange rate even the multinational companies while the only acceptable rate ought to be the CBN..

Which of the multiple CBN rates sir? The one subsidized to their cronies and sold to ordinary Nigerians at premium?

That's the problem...we are importing more than we are exporting.

Which is what many nations whose exports is just raw materials do...the value of their imports exceeds their exports...

That is why we must stop relying on just exporting raw materrials.

Thanks for your above observation. The country has remained for too long in the extractive stage (get raw materials from the soil bottom and export) without adding any value. This way you will get paid peanuts and remain at the bottom of the production / value chain.

What needs to happen is, that the country should be elevated to the next level in value chain, which is the manufacturing stage. This will generate more employment, enhance R & D, increase in export (generate more fx), more value and revenue for the half-finished (manufactured products), less import, more taxes to the government. We have the young population force to achieve this.

Business / Re: CBN To Launch E-Naira Soon, Drafts Guidelines by MAURI: 1:08pm On Aug 30, 2021
FaraAideed and other supporters of the currency,
What backs up the eNaira considering the inconsistencies of the Nigerian monetary regulators, the monoeconomic situation of Nigeria, the political and economic instability of the country?

Thanks for this question, you can use all blockchain tech and fintech tech you like, but there still has to bean underlying value (in this case, the Nigerian Naira). Where the underlying fundamentals remain unstable, the level of volatility will still remain high.

Someone mentioned that this will act as a good hedge against USD, would you be kind to educate us on this?

So long the underlying remains Naira, which in unstable and volatile, I do not see why anyone would want to keep positions in this as against the USD or other stable currencies. Except the CBN intends to create electronic currency without backing, which will lead to higher inflation. Even if the CBN resorts to this, the E-Naira will be majorly used to buy foreign goods (since we are a highly net import country) flooding the market with the E-Naira which will result in drop in value.

Properties / Re: Why Renting An Apartment In Lagos Is So Expensive by MAURI: 7:54pm On May 09, 2021
OP,

When touching on this issue, you might want to take the following into consideration:

- Cost of land in Lagos
- The cost of regularizing housing documents with the LASG
- All the housing related fees charged by LASG (official and unofficial)
- Area boys extortion
- Speak with house owners in Lagos who have gone through or going through the process of getting defaulting tenants to vacate their house
after non-payment of rents for years. As it stands now the courts are on strike, so it means free accommodation for defaulting tenants with cases
in courts.
- Consider all of the above, and also consider the situation where the house owner might have taken a bank loan to develop the property with double-digit interest and double-digit inflation rates.
- And the fact that housing is not regulated by the government, property owners are poorly protected by regulations.

This line of arguement is flawed dear. Are politicians scarce in Nigeria? Is that the reason they are grossly overpaid? It is a matter of priority & wrong value system.

What differentiated us from lower animals is the fact that we [s]can discern whats right and wrong, we're simply higher animals with heightened sense of reasoning[/s], animals copulate with thier siblings and parents, but the reason why normal humans wouldn't do that is same reason why its abnormal to have homosexual tendencies

If you can't fvck your parents like they do, don't be homosexual as well

Now, this is the height of it. Are you sure that what differentiates us from animals is the fact that we can discern whats right and wrong? I take this as the joke of the century!
We human beings tend to assume we are higher animals and better than animals due to our assumed moral superiority. And morals are subjective, irrational emotions that are often passed on without proper analysis and scrutiny. I.e. in some cultures, it is morally allowed to marry underage girls and they are made to engage in sexual acts while there physical anatomy is not ready to accommodate such.
In South America, it is morally acceptable that young boys adopt donkeys and regularly have anal sex with the donkeys to practice the act of sex to get them ready for when they finally have a human partner. No one is asking the donkeys if they want this or not, they are actually raped by physically incapacitating them from resisting.
Further, the bolded part of your above claim is soooo flawed, look you don’t want to know the rate of incest going on in the African society, this is because people turn blind eyes for various reasons and because no records are kept.
If we are really higher animals, morally superior and can discern what is right and wrong (as you claim) then I have the following questions for you:
• Why is it that in Nigeria and some African countries ritualists exist who think you can become rich by killing and sacrificing other human beings. Even animals would not sink this low.
• Was it animals that committed the act of slavery?
• Was it animals that detonated atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
• Was it animals that perpetuated the holocaust?
So you still think discerning right and wrong differentiates humans from animals?

It is not surprising to see our beloved country in the state that it is today. Simply because, most Nigerians will mindlessly gobble down whatever is presented to them hook, line and sinker. There is nothing preventing any of the mindless Fools above me from going to the internet and reading about the JCPOA agreement. In the first place, Obama never paid Iran American money as a part of any agreement, the financial exchange that occurred was simply a transfer back of Iranian assets seized during the Iranian Revolution back to Iran. The four hundred million dollars that was reportedly paid was as a compensation for the fighter aircraft Iran ordered prior to the revolution that were not delivered.
America claims today that Iran violates the terms of the JCPOA agreement, meanwhile the IAEA (organization responsible for inspections and verification of the deal.) has submitted reports to the consistency that Iran has been complying with the agreement. Benjamin Netanyahu's histrionics is reminiscent of George Bush 's clamoring for war with Iraq. This is just a recurring situation of Drumf trying to destroy his more illustrious predecessors legacy.
Lastly, to the Nigerians that babble endlessly about the subject of homosexuality and Obama .It was a conservative U. s Supreme Court justice that legalized homosexuality throughout America. The siege of Mosul and the Alliance that dismembered Isis Was The work of President Obama.
While I agree that President Obama was not the perfect leader, Ignorant Nigerian youths should do their best to Investigate before making mindless claims on such matters.
Thank you.

Most people here do not have the slightest clue & are ill-informed. They should go and read abt Iran - contra affair. America fooled other counties out of business & went behind same countries to do business with Iran & the proceeds was used to finance guerillas in South America. The man that orchestrated it all, Oliver North, is now the new chairman of the NRA. And to those bashing Obama, pls watch his speach after the Charlottesvilles' racist shooting & listen to Trump' remarks on blatant extreme right racists attacks in the U.S.
