The God who appeared to Abimelech is God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who is central to the monotheistic faith.
From Genesis 20:6 God acknowledges Abimelech’s integrity and informs him that He prevented him from sinning against Him by not allowing him to touch Sarah. This indicates that God’s intervention was both protective and corrective.
God directly preached to Abimelech as a result of his interaction with Abraham.
Abraham prayed for him emphasizing his intercessory role as a prophet in Genesis 20:7
Do you think prophets are successful without the will of the almighty God himself?
Indeed you show you don't understand God yourself.
Hmmmmmmmmm, you keep laying emphasis on Genesis 20:7.
OK, the Bible says Moses was God {Exodus 7:1} and Jesus was God {Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1} do you agree?
If you agree that both are Gods then i have no more to say on Abraham being a prophet!smiley

He saw signs through his interaction with Abraham. Genesis 26:26-31 shows Abimelech recognizes the importance of maintaining peaceful relations with someone whom God has blessed.

Abimelech demonstrates submission to God. His responsiveness to divine warnings and commitment to righteousness amidst potential conflict reveal an understanding that transcends mere political maneuvering; it reflects a genuine acknowledgment of God’s authority.

This is a summation of his interactions with both Isaac and Abraham. Are you looking for where Abraham tells Abimelech that this is what God asks me to tell you when he himself gets the message?
What you failed to understand is that the man is not a worshiper of the true God so when he received the warning nothing more was added except he should not take Abraham's wife.
Do you think Abimelech knew there is only one God? To him such warning could be from his own God after all there was nothing more than to desist from taking Abraham's wife.

A prophet would speak to him regarding some vital information from the true God so since Abraham never delivered any message to the man what exactly makes him a prophet? smiley

You don't see how the true God revealed to the false god worshipped who later followed the true God. He saw the signs and wonders of God through Abraham. Genesis 21:22-34; Abimelech approached Abraham again to establish a covenant.
By recognizing Abraham as a prophet (Genesis 20:7) and seeking his intercession through prayer (Genesis 20:17), it can be seen that Abimelech was influenced by his encounters with God and Abraham.
Abraham didn't deliver any message to the man! smiley

I see. So the Bible says Abraham is a prophet for a certain group of people at a particular location in specific time?
The man wasn't a worshiper of the true God that is why God spoke to him in a language that anyone living back then could understand. Note how the Bible puts it:

Now return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not return her, you may be sure that you and all who belong to you will die.” ‭Genesis 20:7 NIV‬
Abraham is a prophet of which God?
They all believe in different Gods and each God has prophets working for them as prophet or priest so the title was just to make the man know that Abraham is a special person because going by the title a prophet should deliver a message to them from a known God but Abraham didn't deliver any message so which God was Abraham working for? What message has he brought to them?

Guy it's simple from the point of view of those who knows the work of prophets Abraham is not a prophet because he never deliver any divine message to anyone.

honesttalk21:

Does being a prophet prevent you from being a friend to God? Perhaps you need to show me again what aspects of prophethood in the definition I gave that Abraham doesn't fit into and while at it show the one excluding him from one the one the Bible named/classified him as.
All worshipers of God are His friends that's why we work hard to keep the friendship but when talking about prophets that assignment makes a difference because a prophet should be one sent to deliver a message to others not just someone who is God's friend! wink

Perhaps the prophesy of Enoch in Jude 1:14 may not be fully understood it can be concluded that Enoch can indeed be considered a prophet. More so if you consider the book of Enoch.
You at least satisfy primarily yourself with your limitation of who is truly a prophet. Fortunately this is not defined based on only your views
Your Bible calls Abraham a prophet and you say it's not that this is what the people of the time understood. Why is there no statement saying people of another time should understand differently?
You defined the word PROPHET yourself and Abraham doesn't fall into that category! smiley

It's not people of that time but the people who wanted to take Abraham's wife, they worship another God not the God of Abraham so they can only understand the word PROPHET but when someone say Abraham is "God's friend" {James 2:23} they will be confused since they can't understand how someone could be God's friend in a special way.

What you say? Where you boldly disagree with what you Bible says about Abraham being a prophet should your view be regarded as valid?
I have addressed that in previous posts so if you choose to call anyone PROPHET when such a person wasn't sent to deliver any message to others i'm OK at least your own definition proves it's not so.

honesttalk21:
Prophets have numerous roles and the scope or size of whom they deliver messages to vary. How much time elapsed between Adam and Noah? For those that stayed through to worshipping God in truth who taught them this right?
This is why you need to STUDY the Bible not just read it after the rebellion in the garden of Eden God never sent any prophet to tell them anything because the issue in Eden needs to be settled: Can humans live happily without God's guidance? Genesis 3:1-5

So God allowed for more than a thousand years until it came to a time when the earth was heading towards self extinction due to the giants born to daughters of men through unnatural mating with angels.

Enoch wasn't sent to deliver any message but he felt like talking about righteousness that's why God took away his life during that time so that those who don't like what he was saying won't hurt him. Genesis 5:24

So Noah was the first prophet sent to deliver a warning message but nobody listened to him until the flood came and swept them all away.

That's the difference between a righteous man and a PROPHET!smiley

There is no disparity in who Allah is or who a prophet is. There can be no prophet after prophet Muhammad pbuh. Allah is repeatedly emphasized as one entity.
How did Jesus according to your Bible tell or teach you to differentiate between prophets?
All Gods are single entities except the TRINITY which has been worshiped for centuries before the Roman Catholics adopted it and called their religion Christianity.
So if Allah is one God know that Ọbàtálá, Ṣàngó, Ọ̀ṣun, Ògún, Zeus, Ra, Hermes, Jupiter and many more are also one entity as each of them stands in their respective places.
As for PROPHET only someone PROPHESYING is a prophet and i think you know what that means! smiley

I firmly believe that without the guidance of church teachings or doctrine, no one can read the Bible independently and conclude that it explicitly states Jesus Christ is God or equal to God. Just the other day, I had a conversation with my cousin that highlighted this point.
The same applies to the Qur'an, nobody can read it independently and choose to become a Muslim he or she must have come in contact with people claiming Muslims and heard one or two things from the way they translated what is written in the book and that is what religion is all about each religion needs to be inculcated into the mind of an adherent through intensive teaching or training.
But one thing is needed to be done so that we can all have a common understanding of what faith in God truly means.

One thing makes FALSE RELIGION obvious and that is how the God religionists worship in working, if we believe that our Creator made everything we are seeing then we need to ask ourselves:
Has God stopped working?
If not what is God doing presently?
How is God controlling worshipers?
What benefits are they benefitting from God?

Nobody can work so hard to put all these things together and sit back watching what was made destroyed by the creation itself nah!

Worshipers of God must stand out differently from those who aren't worshiping in the real sense.

Petalss:
I asked her, "Is Jesus God?" She confidently replied, "No." Then I followed up, "Do you believe in the Trinity?" She said, "Yes." So, I asked her to explain her understanding of the Trinity. She responded, "God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit."

"Okay," I said, "but what about them?" At this point, she was at a loss for words.

I repeated my earlier question, "Is Jesus God?" Once again, she said, "No." Then I asked, "How can you believe in the Trinity without accepting Jesus as God?" Her answer was puzzling: "Because He is not called God."

I jokingly told her she was on her way to becoming a Jehovah's Witness, to which she vehemently disagreed.

This exchange made me realize something: if you ask ten people to explain the Trinity, you might get eleven different interpretations. It’s a complex doctrine that, without proper theological understanding, can lead to confusion even among Trinity believers.
Jesus said people will speak abusively of his real disciples {Matthew 5:11-12} so many Churchgoers don't know the difference between false prophets and those they are supposed to leave from.

lipsrsealed Abraham is one of the first prophets mentioned the Bible. This role is established in the Book of Genesis, where God depics him as not only a patriarch but also as a figure who communicates directly with God. In Genesis 20:7, God refers to Abraham as a prophet when He instructs Abimelech to return Sarah to him.
He is divinely called:Genesis 12:1-3
Plays an intercessionary role: Genesis 18:22-33

Christianity Etc › Re: Is Religion Really A Choice, Or Just Cultural Influence? by MaxInDHouse(m): 5:53pm On Oct 13, 2024
There is just one quality the true God is looking for in all humans and that is INTEGRITY. Whatever religion you are born into the true God has given you the conscience to identify the true religion whenever you come in contact with the members {Romans 2:15} but if you're not a man of integrity then no matter what people say about you God can read your heart {2Chronicles 16:9} so it's your conscience that will judge you when you see the true religion and turn against it.
Meanwhile the true God has sent His people throughout the earth and they are doing what He promised will serve as sign of true religion in the endtime {Isaiah 2:2-4; Micah 4:1-3; Zephaniah 3:9; Malachi 3:16} so instead of justifying yourself due to the confusion Satan caused with numerous agents representing different religions {2Corinthians 4:4} try to figure out which religion God approves! The issues arising from this (the language they understood) can lead to significant misunderstandings, particularly when it comes to titles and their implications.
For instance, when Jesus is referred to as the "Son of God," this designation often implies his divinity, suggesting that he is equated with God himself. In contrast, when other individuals are referred to as "sons of God," such as in biblical texts, they do not carry the same connotation of divinity. This inconsistency can create confusion about the nature of these titles and their significance.
Similarly, many individuals Bible are recognized as prophets and fulfill that role with sincerity and authenticity. However, when it comes to Abraham, who is explicitly called a prophet by God, there seems to be a distinction made. Despite this divine acknowledgment, you say Abraham is not a Prophet.
This discrepancy highlights how language can create varying interpretations and implications regarding the status and nature of individuals within the Bible.
That is why you need to study the Bible not just reading and trying to figure out what the Author wants to teach you. God speaks to people in the language they can grasp but you whose religion totally differs from Christianity will find this very difficult to understand.

For instance Moses is a prophet of God and his brother Aaron was to serve as his spokesman but when Moses failed to understand why God had to sent both himself and his brother to wicked Pharaoh of Egypt God said to Moses:
“See, I have made you like God to Pharʹaoh, and Aaron your own brother will become your prophet." Exodus 7:1

Some Bible translations rendered this statement as "i have made you a God to Pharaoh"
If you read this will you still conclude that Moses is the prophet while Aaron is just his spokesman?
The question you will start to ask yourself is:
How many Gods are here now?
How many prophets is God sending to Egypt?
Perhaps the Bible is just confusing?
But a thorough meditation will tell you that God used a sentence that Moses can grasp easily and that means whatever Moses say in the presence of Pharaoh will start to happen immediately like God talking but Aaron will stand as his spokesman before Pharaoh.
The same thing happened in the case of Jesus God's word said that Jesus is the PROPHET to come in the manner of Moses {Deuteronomy 18:18} and Isaiah said he will be called a Mighty God {Isaiah 9:6} while Apostle John said Jesus was God. John 1:1
All these will confuse you if you don't humble yourself to learn from the true Christians.
Jesus is one of God's spirit sons in heaven {Job 38:7} that's why he is called "God's Son" and he will act like Moses whose words always come through because God is with him {John 11:42} yet he is the only angel who was transformed into human to serve as PROPHET! Act 3:22
So God warned the Jews never to listen to any angel because He never introduced any angel to them as His son {Hebrews 1:5} that means despite knowing that angels are God's sons He has not introduced any to represent Him as His representation through whom we can grasp God's personal attributes! John 1:18; 14:9

So when God told those people that Abraham is a PROPHET it doesn't translate that Abraham is to deliver any message to them as prophets are sent to do but this man has a special relationship with the one and only true God! smiley

European missionaries did play a significant role in spreading Christianity during colonial time however they did not bring Abrahamic religions to Africa. •A prophet in the Bible is someone divinely appointed by God to communicate His will to humanity.
•A prophet is defined as a person chosen by God to convey His messages to others

I implore you to look at the beginning of Genesis 17:21in the Hebrew language in which it was more likely first recorded.
Analyzing the use of the Hebrew word transliterated as ve'et- in Genesis 17:21 reveals that it serves more to affirm God’s promise to Isaac without excluding Ishmael from consideration. The linguistic structure supports an understanding that both sons have roles within God’s overarching plan for humanity. The Hebrew word ve-et in the beginning of Genesis 17:21 does not mean “but” and does not exclude Ishmael from the covenant; instead, it connects ideas and indicates inclusion rather than exclusion.
Only one child continue with the covenant that is why Jacob had it instead of Esau so Ishmael is out of it as God Himself declared though he (Abraham) will have many children the promise will be fulfilled in Isaac there no need twisting this matter! Genesis 17:18-21 smiley

In ancient near Eastern societies, including those contemporary s with the time of Job, polytheism was prevalent. Various cultures worshipped multiple deities associated with natural phenomena, fertility, war, and other aspects of life. This polytheistic framework was common among neighboring tribes and nations surrounding Israel, such as the Canaanites, Egyptians, Babylonians, and others. The worship practices often included rituals involving idols or images representing these gods. Will Job not have encountered them considering his vast wealth? Cultures surrounding Job likely engaged in polytheistic practices.
That's why God didn't mention it because they don't have anyone to guide them into pure worship so what God picked from people back then was INTEGRITY!

honesttalk21:
The other children through Keturah were biologically related to Abraham and would have been influenced by his faith during his lifetime, there is insufficient detail about them in your Bible to assert definitively that they adhered strictly to his covenant or worshiped God consistently thereafter. Is the world not constituted of people in religious pluralism today?
