If this letter is true, Farida Waziri needs to go to jail. Gbenga Daniel and Dimeji Bankole should sue EFCC and in addition, should be exonerated of charges against them. All cases handled under Farida's tenure must be reviewed on suspicion politics, not policy, was instrumental in the prosecutions. |
While the racial comments on her victory are unecessary, the revelation is a reminder of our basic human instincts and possessivenes over territorial ownership. It is justified to call into question what the outrage would be if she had won in her ancestral country, India, instead of her country of birth, USA. There is a lesson to be learnt, this should instruct the culture of racial tolerance in India. |
You see this is what im saying, some mods have sold their independence and are feeding from sincere 9gerian's pocket; difficult to go against his irrational demands. Look, his demand was met, the topic was modified. https://www.nairaland.com/1441684/nigeria-spent-n4.7b-import-umbrellas#18162746 |
Sincere 9gerian: @moderators, I dont understand how the topic of this thread correlates with the body. Some people have been banned in the past for allegedly creating a thread with wrong headline but you guys have just moved a thread with a completely misleading headline to the front page. How do we reconcile this shameless bias? The source says "Nigeria spent..." but the topic on NL says "FG spent..". I know you guys are intelligent enough to know the difference between Nigeria and FG.Are you serious This is a joke! These mods have compromised their independence and given people like you the room to insult intelligence in NL.FG is a shortening of FGN which is acronym for Federal Goverment of Nigeria. How is that not "Nigeria" and where is the inconsistency? |
Which Abacha, the same man who harbored bokoharam warlord in his residence? |
If Akwa Ibom was better than Lagos, if Akpabio was better than Fashola, why is Lagos a better choice of residency for Akpabio's family? Do you hear Fashola relocating his family to Akwa Ibom? https://www.nairaland.com/1431819/why-did-akpabio-family-relocate#17997713 |
solomon111: But some people ignorant sha.Heyy, this is how politics is, its a combative tussle not a love exchange, learn to take the heat or relocate to romance. ![]() |
Al Mustapha is preparing for a political seat under PDP, the writing is on the wall. |
cjrane: The only reason i read this was because i saw the word "BETRAYAL"Nzeogwu, an Iboman, whom Ademulegun children called uncle....and would occassionally stop at the Ademuleguns for meals, was the same man who came into their household and murdered their father and mother. If Mrs Ademulegun had poisoned his food plate on one of his hunger stopovers you would have called it Yoruba betrayal. No tribe, nationally, is worse in acts of betrayal than Ibo. 1. Nzeribe sold guns and weapons to Nigerian Army to kill his tribemen during the war. 2. Ojukwu killed his field commander Banjo, a Yorubaman, in act of treachery. 3. Same Ojukwu abandoned his people and land, turned his back after swearing to stand with them till death, but when the barrels and the bayonets got closer he took off to another man's land to enjoy his life, leaving Ibo women and children to be massacred. 4. This Ojukwu was pardoned and returned and while preaching to his tribemen never to forget Biafra the gizzard was aiding Nigeria to marginalize and suppress Iboland. Would you like to hear about Nwobodo's betrayals, how about Azikiwe's treacheries? Yeye dey smell! ![]() |

agbameta: They sure didn't see it coming and it was a trap.Mo ti so fun e, ani se, eje ka f'ilu Eko we gbogbo apapo ila orun, won o to jiga ! ![]() Lagos on its own is a country! If Lagos was a corporate business unit the parent company would have spinned it off and listed it as a new ownership on exchange market. In 1850 global culture Britan was the single most powerful Empire anywhere in human history and by 1860 the British consul was already admitting that Lagos, of all lands in West Africa, is a unique land, naturally blessed and must be held on to by all means possible. This is why from 1860 to 1960 they held on to it as a colony, long after the formation of Nigeria in 1914. So I cant understand where we should start to compare Akwa Ibom, understandably the best place in the Eastern quarter with Lagos, a land the greatest Empire in human history called the best place in West Africa. Ko baje fun awon ol'ote! ![]() |
Example: people uneducated about Yoruba history say the term "Yoruba" was coined by Hausa, which is false; others say Yoruba did not have broad application untill the end of Kiriji war in 1886, that is also false. This letter debunks the idea that Yoruba did not call themselves "Yoruba" untill a truce negotiated by colonial government helped to reunite the land under one commowealth. Kiriji war was fought 1877 - 1886, this letter was written in 1862. |
berem: All these threads about who owns Lagos bla bla bla bullshit is beginning to annoy me! Is there any non lagosian who is attempting to claim Lagos as his state of origin? Why all the noise and opening silly threads? Nonsense!!Berem, read that letter well well. It is more than Lagos. Its about Bini, about Nigeria, about commerce, about Yoruba language. Its a package! |
Dude, countless Yoruba people have had their properties sealed for the same reason Oji's property was sealed ie non payment of property related taxes. I pay all taxes as and when due so that doesn't apply to me.
I know Kalu, i have no clue about these Yorubas you talk about. Stay to facts of what is known, not some speculations . Its refreshing to hear from a iboman that pays his tax. You are a good man, keep it up my brother! ![]() |
How many years have I got to live on earth? I don't intend to take the land to heaven. Dosunmu didn't take the land to his grave.
Thats because Dosumu, like you, didnt own the land. All those who owned land were buried with their land in their posession. |
hitman2911: What is the source of the letter.Yes, Egba defeated Dahomey in the wars. This was a part of numerous letters in British archives. |
icon8: Dosumu (Docemo) and the white-capped chiefs owned Lagos!Dosumu does not own land. |
I do not care who owns what. I own my plots of land in Lagos for at least 99 years as the C of O states. Any ldiot that tries to trespass, shall be dealt with accordingly.
Lol, compared to Orji Kalu you are nobody. Kalu's property in Ikoyi was sealed and then on intervention reopened with 14day ultimatum, which he then responded to by contacting Fani Kayode to "plead" for mercy on his behalf. You have 99yrs c of o (lease), "not" ownership. |
Consul Freeman to Earl Russell.—(Received April 12.)(Extract.) Lagos, March 8, 1862. I HAVE the honour to report to your Lordship that, after several lengthened discussions with Docemo and his Chiefs, I have terminated to their satisfaction all the questions arising out of the Treaty of Cession signed on the 6th of August last.I should have settled everything immediately on my arrival but I encountered a strong opposition from Docemo and his Chiefs, who even went so" far as to declare that they were forced into signing the Treaty of Cession without understanding its contents. Knowing this to be false, as at the formal signing of the Treaty there were present many people perfectly conversant with both the English and Yoruba languages, I endeavoured to ascertain the source of these new difficulties, and I soon discovered that they were caused by the White-capped Chiefs. These Chiefs are the rightful possessors of the land upon which they depend for their subsistence. Whenever war breaks out, and the King is attacked, they retire into the bush, to return again when peace is re-established, and are then acknowledged by the victors as the legal owners of the soil. Thus the King and war-men hold no lands unless by grant from the White-capped chiefs. These Chiefs had been persuaded by certain parties, whether maliciously or through ignorance it is difficult to ascertain, that the cession of Lagos to the British Crown involved the abrogation of all private rights of property, and they, therefore, protested that the King could not give away their lands, and that they did not understand such to be the meaning of the Treaty when it was signed. Hence the origin of their holding back from a final settlement. On the 11th ultimo I received the King and his Chiefs at my house, and detailed to them the reasons which induced Her Majesty's Government to obtain the cession of this island; pointed out the changes which will result therefrom, and explained to them that far from depriving them of their private property, the cession will render it more valuable to them .They declared they had never viewed the question in that light before, and they left my house quite satisfied.. Two days after the King came again in the evening, and signed an additional paragraph to the Treaty, by which he agrees to receive in compensation for the revenue he gives up, an annual pension of 1,200 bags of cowries, equal, at the present rate of exchange, to 1,030/. sterling. |
The article covered in this post is good for open discussion in politics section. I suggest moving out of ethnic section into politics. I endorse the article, speaks volumes to what is wrong in the country. https://www.nairaland.com/1440195/bola-olalekan#18139046 |

Is Ngozi a unisex name? I thought girls are named Ngozi. |
This is King Gezo of Dahomey in 1851 in a letter to Queen Victoria of England. This ngga is a bad , does not beat around the bush, he meant business.Inclosure 2 in No. 48. |
Okoro2015: At least we now know the basis of this thread. Someone is still smarting from fashola's misadventure. Don't worry, Amaechi and his gang will be dealt with in due course. Here in the East, we don't confuse noise making with activism just as one of my good brothers had earlier told you. This Fashola reference has weight on the response but it is of no consequence to the topic whether you are mute or loud on the event in P'Harcourt. The timidity in SE politics is loathsome. |
