If this letter is true, Farida Waziri needs to go to jail. Gbenga Daniel and Dimeji Bankole should sue EFCC and in addition, should be exonerated of charges against them. All cases handled under Farida's tenure must be reviewed on suspicion politics, not policy, was instrumental in the prosecutions.
PoliticsRe: America "a country full of racists" retort as Miss America racially abused. by MayorofLagos(m): 10:05am On Sep 17, 2013
While the racial comments on her victory are unecessary, the revelation is a reminder of our basic human instincts and possessivenes over territorial ownership. It is justified to call into question what the outrage would be if she had won in her ancestral country, India, instead of her country of birth, USA. There is a lesson to be learnt, this should instruct the culture of racial tolerance in India.

Sincere 9gerian: @moderators, I dont understand how the topic of this thread correlates with the body. Some people have been banned in the past for allegedly creating a thread with wrong headline but you guys have just moved a thread with a completely misleading headline to the front page. How do we reconcile this shameless bias? The source says "Nigeria spent..." but the topic on NL says "FG spent..". I know you guys are intelligent enough to know the difference between Nigeria and FG.
https://www.nairaland.com/1441684/fg-spent-n4.7b-import-umbrellas
Are you serioushuh This is a joke! These mods have compromised their independence and given people like you the room to insult intelligence in NL.

FG is a shortening of FGN which is acronym for Federal Goverment of Nigeria. How is that not "Nigeria" and where is the inconsistency?

cjrane: The only reason i read this was because i saw the word "BETRAYAL"
I just bet with my girlfriend that it must be a yoruba man betraying his friend since it was their second nature to do so, and she said she would give me two N1,500 recharge cards if the betrayer was indeed yoruba!
Low and behold, it is our own Jimoh Olalere !

lol.. i now have N3,000 naira recharge cards simply for knowing a yoruba can never be trusted ! grin
Nzeogwu, an Iboman, whom Ademulegun children called uncle....and would occassionally stop at the Ademuleguns for meals, was the same man who came into their household and murdered their father and mother.

If Mrs Ademulegun had poisoned his food plate on one of his hunger stopovers you would have called it Yoruba betrayal.

No tribe, nationally, is worse in acts of betrayal than Ibo.

1. Nzeribe sold guns and weapons to Nigerian Army to kill his tribemen during the war.

2. Ojukwu killed his field commander Banjo, a Yorubaman, in act of treachery.

3. Same Ojukwu abandoned his people and land, turned his back after swearing to stand with them till death, but when the barrels and the bayonets got closer he took off to another man's land to enjoy his life, leaving Ibo women and children to be massacred.

4. This Ojukwu was pardoned and returned and while preaching to his tribemen never to forget Biafra the gizzard was aiding Nigeria to marginalize and suppress Iboland.

Would you like to hear about Nwobodo's betrayals, how about Azikiwe's treacheries?

Yeye dey smell! grin

agbameta: They sure didn't see it coming and it was a trap.

I have no serous issues with them loving their Akpabio because I know better, I know the man is a despicable con man and he's playing the people of that state. I just got tired on their foolishness and idiotic interruptions every time we talk about Lagos, they just butt in with the same silly roads over and over. You really must be r.etarded if all you need in a leader is just a handful of roads while missing out in nearly all the other critical areas of survival.

Governance is not all about just a hand full of roads to flash in people's face while your people have zero access to credible and standard healthcare, schools and other social amenities.

The man came up short in many areas regarding the set criteria in this thread, he didn't even show up on the radar at all.

See how many pages it took me to detail his meager nonsense? After posting all their silly roads, it's a wrap, there is nothing more in that hole and the largest budget in Nigeria has no bearing on what's on the ground in Akwa Ibom. As loud as they get all the time, they couldn't even challenge me and what I posted with anything in Akwa Ibom because after the roads like I said, there is nothing, I mean nothing.

To me, the only way to pull off the veil is this thread and it worked like a charm, it exposed their idiocy, shallowness and stupidity.

This thread should be bookmark by all so when next they come up with their foolishness and silly roads, pull out this thread just to let the know the gig is up and they are not fooling you..

The man himself and his family refused to call his own rotten state home and prefer Lagos for obvious reasons so the crying losers and tribal clowns on NL remains irrelevant anytime any day..

Eko o ni baje o...

Lagos on its own is a country! If Lagos was a corporate business unit the parent company would have spinned it off and listed it as a new ownership on exchange market.

In 1850 global culture Britan was the single most powerful Empire anywhere in human history and by 1860 the British consul was already admitting that Lagos, of all lands in West Africa, is a unique land, naturally blessed and must be held on to by all means possible. This is why from 1860 to 1960 they held on to it as a colony, long after the formation of Nigeria in 1914.

So I cant understand where we should start to compare Akwa Ibom, understandably the best place in the Eastern quarter with Lagos, a land the greatest Empire in human history called the best place in West Africa.

Ko baje fun awon ol'ote! grin

Example: people uneducated about Yoruba history say the term "Yoruba" was coined by Hausa, which is false; others say Yoruba did not have broad application untill the end of Kiriji war in 1886, that is also false.

This letter debunks the idea that Yoruba did not call themselves "Yoruba" untill a truce negotiated by colonial government helped to reunite the land under one commowealth. Kiriji war was fought 1877 - 1886, this letter was written in 1862.

Berem, read that letter well well. It is more than Lagos. Its about Bini, about Nigeria, about commerce, about Yoruba language. Its a package!

PoliticsRe: King Gezo To Queen Victoria Regarding Abeokuta. by MayorofLagos(op): 9:03pm On Sep 15, 2013
hitman2911: What is the source of the letter.
I know the Dahomean kings were sturborn but were dealt with by the Egba warriors with the support of the Briton missionaries especially Henry Townsend.
The Dahomey amazons ( women warrior) actually came close to Abeokuta but were massacred twice. They moved across the present Yewa and Anago regions in Benin Republic with ultimate goal of invading the Egbas.
They did not know that unified Egba of Abeokuta was not the old scattered Egbas.
Yes, Egba defeated Dahomey in the wars. This was a part of numerous letters in British archives.

PoliticsWho Owns Lagos? Keep This Letter For Posterity by MayorofLagos(op): 7:03pm On Sep 15, 2013
Consul Freeman to Earl Russell.—(Received April 12.)(Extract.)

Lagos, March 8, 1862.

I HAVE the honour to report to your Lordship that, after several lengthened discussions with Docemo and his Chiefs, I have terminated to their satisfaction all the questions arising out of the Treaty of Cession signed on the 6th of August last.I should have settled everything immediately on my arrival but I encountered a strong opposition from Docemo and his Chiefs, who even went so" far as to declare that they were forced into signing the Treaty of Cession without understanding its contents. Knowing this to be false, as at the formal signing of the Treaty there were present many people perfectly conversant with both the English and Yoruba languages, I endeavoured to ascertain the source of these new difficulties, and I soon discovered that they were caused by the White-capped Chiefs.

These Chiefs are the rightful possessors of the land upon which they depend for their subsistence. Whenever war breaks out, and the King is attacked, they retire into the bush, to return again when peace is re-established, and are then acknowledged by the victors as the legal owners of the soil. Thus the King and war-men hold no lands unless by grant from the White-capped chiefs.

These Chiefs had been persuaded by certain parties, whether maliciously or through ignorance it is difficult to ascertain, that the cession of Lagos to the British Crown involved the abrogation of all private rights of property, and they, therefore, protested that the King could not give away their lands, and that they did not understand such to be the meaning of the Treaty when it was signed. Hence the origin of their holding back from a final settlement.

On the 11th ultimo I received the King and his Chiefs at my house, and detailed to them the reasons which induced Her Majesty's Government to obtain the cession of this island; pointed out the changes which will result therefrom, and explained to them that far from depriving them of their private property, the cession will render it more valuable to them .They declared they had never viewed the question in that light before, and they left my house quite satisfied..

Two days after the King came again in the evening, and signed an additional paragraph to the Treaty, by which he agrees to receive in compensation for the revenue he gives up, an annual pension of 1,200 bags of cowries, equal, at the present rate of exchange, to 1,030/. sterling.

I endorse the article, speaks volumes to what is wrong in the country.

PoliticsKing Gezo To Queen Victoria Regarding Abeokuta. by MayorofLagos(op): 8:19am On Sep 15, 2013
This is King Gezo of Dahomey in 1851 in a letter to Queen Victoria of England. This ngga is a bad lipsrsealed, does not beat around the bush, he meant business.

Inclosure 2 in No. 48.

The King of Dahomey to Her Majesty Queen Victoria. September 7, 1851.

THE King of Dahomey gives his best compliments to the Queen of England, and thanks her very much for sending me to his country; he has seen me and likes me too much. The same way he send he like, and same way the King of Dahomey will send messenger to Queen of England, by-and-bye.

The King says that the palaver that the Queen of England send him about no block Abbeokuta, he hear the King of Abbeokuta (Foolaka*) was the King's friend before; that Foolaka send him children to the King of Dahomey, and say Go block one country for him (called Keada), and the King block that country for him. If Foolaka live, he, the King of Dahomey, block Keada; and if he dies, he can block for him; because the King of Dahomey block Keada for Foolaka.

The Abbeokutians go block two countries for Dahomey, King side (one is called Ba-gee and* Is now dead.the other To-soo); the Abbeokuta people catch all the Cabooceers, for those countries, and cut the head for all. The above is the reason the King of Dahomey get vexed with Abbeokuta; he pass forty-five peoples' countries before he come to Abbeokuta, and as he passed, he give 20,000 men for one of these countries, and also leaving some men in each of the other countries as he passed; is the reason he no block Abbeokuta properly.

The reason he block Abbeokuta again is, that last time the Abbeokuta people catch and kill plenty of his men and also his wives, and keep them to make them their own wives. The King says myself have live this country, by-and-bye mc and him can settle the slave palaver.

his(Signed) MAYO Xmark.

P. S.—The King say, anything belonging to the Queen of England live at Abbeokuta; he can see every one in his own hand. The King say this black man kill this white man (Gee, at Badagry); if the Queen of England send to him, he can block his place; he no like black man for kill white man for any way.

The witnesses to the above were Yavogan, Narwhey, and two others from the King, Madaki being interpreter. (Signed) LOUIS FRASER, Her Majesty's Vice-Consul for the Kingdom of Dahomey. Whydah, September 9, 1851.

This Fashola reference has weight on the response but it is of no consequence to the topic whether you are mute or loud on the event in P'Harcourt.

The timidity in SE politics is loathsome.
