The funny thing about this whole Anderson arguement will be that when we eventually lose a game it MUST be Andersons' fault even if he did not play
not exactly true.
the problem is that Coogar will tell us that Anderson had a spectacular game and would have been even better if his midfield partner was more mobile.
the other problem is that inspite of every evidence to the contrary he keeps insisting the boy is mint and the shining light of a less than stellar midfield.
I have no problem with Anderson he is an okay player, inconsistent in his general play, a bit erratic with his passing, loads of energy and very poor shooting.
He has lots of potential but same can be said of Pogba et al.
I really see no reason to call Anderson world class.
This has been my problem with Coogar. i understand his personal love for Anderson but he can't wish away the realities.
Our midfield is less than world class and Anderson is part of the problem not an exception.
He is not the problem but part of it.

The returnees from Abia state, what should happen to them? Hang in the air? I say let him fire them back so Imo state governor can absorb the returnees into his own cabinet. Quite unfortunate at the events but here is what it comes down to --- Retaliation. Although two wrongs don't make a right; however, I think it's only fair that Imo let them go so he can take in the victims of the other governor who initiated such nonsense

please just reel out all the requirements, i don't want any more surprises in future.

Dear xxxxx,

We are delighted to inform you about a newly established scholarship for the MBA programme, for those students pursuing social or green ventures.
The Bertha Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship has been established at the GSB as a result of a partnership between the GSB and The Bertha Foundation.

The centre will drive research in, and promote the practice of social innovation and entrepreneurship and will provide courses and is designing an elective action learning programme on the MBA. Furthermore, the centre will run an outreach programme training social entrepreneurs. This moves the GSB one step closer to reaching a goal of motivating “business for better”.

The focus will be on encouraging MBA students to fully realise projects and business ideas that make a real positive impact on society and they will have access to communities and to mentors to build on their ideas and create companies.
The school aims to continue catering for those students looking for the traditional MBA, but there will be an unavoidable added facet – students will graduate with a social conscience.

As part of the Centre’s outreach, five MBA scholarships have been established. Please see the information below about eligibility and applying for the Bertha scholarship.

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE BERTHA SCHOLARSHIP

The criteria used for selection of Bertha Scholars are:

Candidates must be a resident of an African country
Candidates must have started or worked in an entrepreneurial social or green venture, or have worked on developing base of pyramid or social business strategies in a corporation for at least 1 year
Candidates must demonstrate a strong moral character, strong entrepreneurial drive, a track record of action, leadership qualities, traits of social activism and a commitment to the sustainable development of emerging economies
Through the submission of an essay, candidates must show how the MBA at this stage in their career will help to accelerate their impact and how it will contribute to the wider creation of value for society
Candidates must demonstrate some need for the scholarship, through either previous work experience, personal background or demonstrated commitment to start a social venture, which make self-funding the MBA a significant burden.
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BERTHA SCHOLARSHIP

Candidates must independently and concurrently apply for the MBA of the UCT Graduate School of Business. See www.gsb.uct.ac.za/mba for full details about the MBA programme, eligibility, criteria and how to apply to the business school.
At the time of applying for the MBA, or after their submission, interested candidates must state their interest in the scholarship by emailing the Bertha Centre at berthacentre@gsb.uct.ac.za with the words “Bertha Scholarship” in the subject line and your full contact details in the body of the email.
After the submission of your MBA application, GSB admissions will first assess your application to ensure that you meet the academic requirements sought by the school. Those candidates accepted onto the MBA will be sent an essay question for application to the Bertha Scholarship that should be submitted to berthacentre@gsb.uct.ac.za.
Following the submission of the essay, the Bertha Centre will consider the candidates for the Bertha Scholarship and will invite a shortlist for a video, phone or personal interview.  The final decision and award of the scholarship will be made by a panel decision of the Bertha Centre and the MBA staff representative shortly afterwards, following which candidates will be informed.
THE VALUE OF THE BERTHA SCHOLARSHIP

The Bertha Scholarship covers full costs of the MBA programme at the UCT Graduate School of Business.  The Scholarship may also assist with a modest stipend to partially cover living expenses or travel to Cape Town to those candidates who demonstrate such a need.  The Scholarship Committee assesses need based on previous earnings, personal circumstances, geographical location, and future earning potential.

For further information, see www.gsb.uct.ac.za/berthacentre
For any queries about the Scholarship, please email berthacentre@gsb.uct.ac.za with the words “Scholarship Query” in the subject line.

i do not subscribe to the idea that NEXT failed because they were anti-govt.
while i know that pro-govt publications make it more easily, there are also examples of anti-govt publications making it (SUN and Business Day).
I think the problem with Thisday was the source of their funding.
I hear it was mostly bank loans.
You can't run a newspaper with bank loans in naija.
the size of overhead makes it difficlut to break even in the short term when you factor in loan repayment.
It is not a coincidence that most papers in Nigeria are owned by rich politicians who not only have deep pockets but derive political mileage that can not be easily quantified from the papers.

Another issue was there inability to diversify streams of income.something Businessday have suceeded in doing.
publications, special reports, conferences etc.

I can't defend others but my views are clear and not sensational.
I do not ascribe the defeat to Rio but i expaected him to do a whole lot more in organizing the defence.
Phil ws naive but what do you expect from a 19 yr old?
That is the more reason why the Rio should have done a whole lot more in the organisation.
The less said about Fabio and Evra the better.
Evra has been poor for the past 18 months.
I will be surprised if Fergie does not bring in a left back to challenge him in January.
On the issue of defence organisation, i am still wondering how good De Gea's english is?
he seems mute.

AjanleKoko:
most of the World bank funded or assisted projects in Nigeria are usually some sort of smoke screen projects that do very little to address anything. You only see a random borehole somewhere, or a totally impractical project like Prof. Negroponte and his One Laptop Per Child project that never went anywhere. I very much share this sentiment.
the impracticality and irrelevance of that project is mind boggling.
sometimes even seemingly intelligent people blow your mind in a negative way.

On the topic at hand, Yunus was here weeks back.Spoke at a First bank conference and afterwards the big suits made all the right noises but i guess not much will change.
In my view, i think the foundation of micro finance in this country is faulty. With a faulty foundation, there is little that can be achieved.
these micro finance banks have not being set up as social capitalist ventures but solely as capitalist ventures.
The cost structure alone is enough proof that it has been set up for failure.
the cost structure (OPEX and CAPEX) needs to be as minimal as possible.
All these big buildings and official cars are not it.
the banks needs to be as accessible to the grassroots as possible.
Its sales mechanism needs to be as integrative and collaborative as the 'follow up' folks in pentecostal churches.
Amounts ought to be smaller, teure smaller and the banks should monitor the customers every step of the way.

Double N:
Anderson is the only Brazilian (With the exception of Ramires) that can't effectively complete a simple step-over. lipsrsealed. Dude has energy no doubt but does he have the footballing brain to use it? That's another question entirely.
that is not true.
Ramires can complete a step over.
Anderson is in a class of his own. the least creative Brazilian i have seen in a long time.
Cristalz:
Says who?
A goalkeeper is in charge of the net and his defenders are there to aid him in keeping the ball out of it.
If they are not doing what is necessary to achieve that, he needs to scream into their ears till they get the message.
Rio is supposed to organize the defense, okay, but say Rio gets injured 'n subbed, then what? He coaches from the sidelines??
Dude, that's the goalie's duty.

De Gea can't keep staying mute like he has no right to talk his defenders down. Forget age. A goalie's a goalie.

@StarBoard
It's another scary thing to consider.
Anderson's work rate isn't bad, but asking him to boss the midfield is a little too much.
He simply hasn't got the level of skill and creativity required to handle that for now.
who knows how good his English is?
heard any interviews? i am curious.

montelik:
Okay after some thought. All defenders need serious spanking with d exception of De Gea.

Fabio - was d poorest, Lazy, always out of position, no concentration or awareness, couldn't complete even d easiest of passes and manages to get himself injured for good measure.

i have a sneaky feeling the end is near for him at OT.

Rio - where was d leadership? when everyone around you is going gaga, I would expect you to calm things down, tell Jones to focus on fulfilling his primary duties, pull Fabio ears and get him to switch on. Instead you allow d madness to continue. Maybe if VDS was around he would shaken some sense into them. But as d experienced head, you should cracked some skulls if you needed to.

He does not even look fit to me. as soon as injuries get sorted out, we need to settle on a back four and stick to it. it is hurting De Gea.

Jones - Now I know many fans love d boy, but time for some truth. he is hugely talented but also very naive. Its a sign of his age and inexperience which aren't his fault. Smalling would never make some of d decisions he makes, neither would Evans. If Evans made some d calls he makes, United fans would probably diss him till he left O.T. Focus on defending, not continually trying to show off your abilities. Defend first and foremost and forget d rest. He kept pushing too high up d pitch and leaving spaces and room. Why he didn't clear leading to d p.k I don't know, it was a real silly schoolboy error.

i am glad this is happening. maybe the hype will boil down.

Evra- Had a good first 45 min but then went back to his old self. Lazy, didn't look even interested in tracking back despite getting caught out of position time and again after pushing forward ineffectively. Couldn't be bothered to tackle, close people down or cover gaps and pick up opposition players.

has been poor for over 18 months. Fergie will buy a left full back (someone to give him a fight for that shirt)in Jan and ship out Fabio in the summer.

Special mention to Carrick who was United's best all round player. Typically most fans will bash him first when we don't perform, but today he played well and really covered Ando's poor play, also Welbeck and Giggs did relatively okay.

Waiting for Coogar to do the obligatory defence for Anderson. I was asked to eat humble pie. the pie is still on the table. Ain't eating no pie yet. that midfield still needs re-hauling. I said that in the summer, said it while we were winning this season and i am still saying it.

Meanwhile Nani should please give some classes to Valencia and Young on how to mix it up as United wingers. On d pitch for 20 mins and 2 beautiful deliveries, one that Welbeck should have buried and another that Young did. I don't think Valencia or Young managed any for their 90 mins.
