eluquenson:So JIHAD is to really fight a war? |
Why is that everything in this country upside down? From the tribal war to the religion war. The people who brought the religion isn't fighting with each other. Another one is the Nigeria Police, it is the most corrupt institution in Nigeria, I owe no apology for that. It's only in Nigeria armed robbers robs a police station and go scoot free! Talking about the banking sector, it is just polarised by giving credits to only big names/companies instead of supporting small business to grow! A civil/public servant will steal as much as he likes and nothing will happen after the initial gragra of EFCC..... It really annoys me when an individual is interviewed and he says "I'm a politician". Is politics supposed to be a profession? I think I'm also gonna join that industry because it seems lucrative. The business industry; the big wigs there monopolises everything and inflict pains on small businessmen/women. Is it hour subsidy scam we should talk about? you will cry for this country when you hear all those shaddy deals/scams The annoying part of it is the health sector where the doctor/nurses does as if they are demi-god which cannot be touched @ all. When you go abroad, what they have is delivery room because there will be a general surgeon, midwife, gynaecologist and nurses attending to one woman during delivery. But in Nigeria, it's only 2 nurses who will attend to you inside a roomm full of heat while they will be shouting on your head that "when u dey enjoy am, u dey shout, why u come dey make noise here? other patients dey sleep o"! No wonder they call it "Labour room" I can go on and on...... But who's the messiah that will save Nigeria from this mess? |

The robbery suspects who allegedly robbed banks in Ikorodu have told the Federal High Court in Lagos that the confessional statements they made to the police were not voluntary. Their lawyer Olusegun Akanbi is also praying the court to order the police to produce them if they are still alive. He said the suspects “made confessional statements to the members of the press out of duress”. He argued that it is illegal for the police to parade criminal suspects and have them grant press interviews under compulsion. The lawyer is praying the court for an order compelling the police to produce the four suspects in court because their families were denied access to them. The accused persons are Agbojule Bright, Promise Abiwa, Monday Omoboye and Monday Ikuesan. They were paraded on July 6 in connection with the robbery of the Ipakodo branches of First Bank and Zenith Bank in Ikorodu. The police said they were part of an 18-man gang which made away with about N80million in the robbery on June 24. The four suspects had reportedly confessed to playing different roles in the alleged crime while three Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) allegedly bought with the robbery proceeds were recovered from them. Akanbi claimed that the police violated the suspects’ right to remain silent or to avoid answering any questions until after consulting with a lawyer in line with Section 35(2) of the 1999 Constitution. According to the lawyer, the suspects may not get a fair trial since they have “already suffered prejudice in the eye of the public due to unfair publicity and unprofessional acts of the defendants.” He claimed that the police refused to allow him or the suspects’ family members to see them in detention. “The applicants’ counsel were not allowed to see the applicants or even to have a brief interview with them when they visited the defendants on 15th July 2015. “The applicants’ constitutional rights under Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution are at stake because the defendants have already taken a biased position by denying the applicants’ family or their counsel their right of visiting them in police custody. “It will be in the interest of justice if the applicants are brought before this honourable court so that the court can ascertain whether the applicants are still alive. “It will be in the interest of justice if the applicants can be charged by the defendants to court since they have already spent over 24 hours in custody. “Failure to do this will amount to usurpation of the constitutional powers of the judiciary,” the lawyer argued. He claimed that the suspects were entitled to N5million damages for what he described as their unlawful detention. Justice Mohammed Yunusa adjourned to September 7 to enable the Inspector-General of Police Solomon Arase respond to the suit. Source: TheNation |

The acting chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Haliru Bello, has stated that the adoption of former President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s presidential candidate proved disastrous. However, our correspondent noted that there was an ironic twist in the BoT chairman’s claim since he had played a decisive role in the coronation of Mr. Jonathan as the party’s unopposed candidate. In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, Mr. Bello said the choice of Mr. Jonathan was part of the problems that finally destroyed the party's chances at the polls. He also lamented that the PDP violated its zoning formula in 2011, asserting that the violation was the genesis of the party’s crisis. A former acting chairman of the PDP, Mr. Bello was elected as the current BoT chair after the resignation of the former chairman, Tony Anenih. Ironically, it was Mr. Bello, a former Defense Minister, who moved the motion for the adoption of Jonathan as the party's sole presidential candidate. He had moved the motion at the party’s headquarters in Abuja during a meeting of the national Executive Committee on September 17, 2014. In that motion, Mr. Bello had asserted, “In [the] PDP we have a tradition of queuing up behind our leaders. President Jonathan has performed creditably well as attested to by all the organs of the party. Therefore, for the good of Nigeria and for the good work that the PDP is doing for the country, I move that the NEC endorse the candidature of President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s candidate in the 2015 election.” Jim Nwobodo, a former governor of old Anambra State, had seconded Mr. Bello’s motion. Mr. Bello’s statement, which was signed by his special assistant on media, Emeka Nwapa, remarked that the party’s decision in 2011 to jettison its policy of rotation and zoning affected the party negatively. “When the founding fathers formed the party in 1998, they established the principle of justice and equity whereby power resided with the people, who could decide who became what at any point in time. “But over time, the party swerved away and breached the principle thereby disrupting its internal democracy. When in 2011 the party abandoned its zoning formula, the party dealt on itself a major blow because that action served the first notice that it had disconnected with the masses. So we must go back to the culture of zoning and rotation of offices,” Mr. Bello contended in his statement. He added: “The PDP remains the only true national party in the country with its flag in all nooks and crannies whose members are assured that they can always aspire to any available position as long as zoning and rotation hold sway as a cardinal policy of the party. “We must run away from a practice that leaves the party at the mercy of moneybags who, more often than not, seek to hijack the processes of the party at the detriment of promoting genuine internal democracy through which only capable, credible and popular candidates can emerge to contest elections with assurance of victory.” According to the BoT chairman, the “policies and manifesto of the party should also guide the activities of public office holders who are either elected or appointed on the platform of the party in line with good governance and best practices.” He accused the party of abandoning many of its leaders, elders and founding fathers “in spite of their abiding interest in the party,” adding that some of the disaffected members had left while some “chose to remain but are either inactive, unconcerned or indifferent because nobody has bothered to look for them.” He declared the injustice done to the party’s founders as unacceptable. “If there is any time we need them for advice and counsel, it is now,” he stated. |
