@ poster, having a 15-yr plan does not mean you plan on staying for 15 years. It simply means some plans take that long to implement. My brother this is the dumbest thread I have seen on Nairaland, how 15year plan translates into 15year tenure only Babasin would know!!!!!! |

James Ibori On the Run !
Last View on Mon 3rd September, 2007 Last Modified on Mon 03rd September, 2007 10:26:55 am Author: Admin Sahara
-Saharareporters, New York Former Delta Governor James Ibori, a subject of corruption investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, has taken flight.
Ibori is regarded as one of the notorious former governors being investigated for embezzlement of public funds and money laundering.
Ibori had made an unsuccessful plot to emasculate the EFCC and remove Nuhu Ribadu as its executive Chairman. Using his contacts in the Umar Yar’Adua administration, James Ibori was behind Attorney General Aondaakar’s recent announcement that the EFCC could no longer prosecute corrupt public officials. But public outcry forced the government to reverse itself, restoring the anti-corruption agency’s powers to prosecute.
Our investigations revealed that Ibori took off a few days ago to South Africa. But he may have slipped out of South Africa as the country’s police closed in on him.
It remains a mystery how Ibori was able to travel since his international passport was supposed to have been confiscated by the EFCC.
Sources told Saharareporters that Ibori’s humiliating defeat in the hands of the EFCC and the freeze placed on his worldwide assets by a British court has led the former governor to consider fleeing from Nigerian prosecutors. Our sources said the EFCC was nearing a decision to arrest Ibori at the time of his hasty escape.
At the last count, the former governor is said to have looted close to N200 billion from the coffers of Delta State treasury. More than 20 officers of the EFCC are investigating Ibori along with many former state officials including the current governor of Delta State, Uduaghan.
Our sources in London disclosed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo effectively shielded Ibori from investigation due to their close relationship. As the EFCC commenced full investigations into the local content of Ibori's corruption, money laundering and racketeering activities, it soon discovered that Ibori had bought into all the strategic companies in the nation. Some of his investments include the acquisition of Willbros Nigeria Limited through a front company known as ASCOT Nigeria Limited. He also owns an airline, Wings Aviation Limited, on whose behalf he was acquiring a brand new jet from Bombardier Airspace Company in Canada. The jet, estimated to be worth $20 million, is has been ordered seized by a London Court.
Investigators have also unearthed James Ibori's controlling interests in the National Fertilizer Company (NAFCON) as well as substantial interests in two major banks, Oceanic Bank and Access Bank.
A friend of the ex-governor who declined to be named denied Chief Ibori was on the run, according to him, " The former governor had traveled to the US from South Africa on vacation". He declined to tell Saharareporters when Chief Ibori would return to face the EFCC. However, he confided in Saharareporters that the EFCC was never in possession of James Ibori's passport as former president Obasanjo never allowed the anti-corruption agency to touch the former governor.
www.saharareporters.com The Hatchet Man, Micheal Aondoakaa, must be celebrating in his heart. His due process policy and checkmating of EFCC is working. The Big boys are obviously finding their ways arround the Law, well is'nt that what due process is all about? Congrats Mr. Attorney General. |

I am not condoning drug traficking, but literally celebrating and glorifying death sentence of a Nigerian abroad is not the best.
The elite politicians who loot the Nation's treasury and put those boys in such hopeless situation and no choice deserve more death than those boys, and before we celebrate their sentence to death we should honestly look to see if our fathers or immediate brothers are remotely responsible for their hopelessness. |

Mamajama: The cheap slap on the wrist is why some people think its OK to engage in this disgusting act. we all looking for quick money. Mamajama: Burn them alive please. its a risk you take when you become a dope peddler. we all have a choice to make, and when you make bad judgement, you have to live with your decision. If the options available to you were available to those boys may be they would not have made that choice, that is what you must remember at all times. There activities are a consequences of the hopelessness of our country, which is caused largely by the looting elite. |

as if there is any economic policy of the world that will bring about a different ratio other than 1:100 between Naira/Kobo or Pounds/pence or Dollar/cents.
Where are the cartoonists? this will make a great joke.
The man wants to talk for the sake of it, why criticise Soludo after he has retracted his steps. |

Dagash may be right, but I dont think vetting CBN policies is part of or the topmost in his job description. He should come up with policies to move Nigeria forward, we have not seen any progressive plan from his ministry. |

Afam: So, if people informed him about what Soludo intended to do it is ok to let it be, is that what you are implying?
Sometimes I can't believe some posts on this forum. what am saying is if there is anything Soludo did not do it is getting a written approval that would have served as a proof that the Presidency was very much in the know. I believe Soludo told Yaradua. |
Politics › Re: "Daggash: Even The President Can't Redenominate The Naira." by McKren(m): 3:05pm On Aug 31, 2007 |
Someone should tell Sanusi Dagash that he has a lot of work to do so their is no need for him to be nosing here and there looking for a verbal ping pong match.
There is no established address system or National means to verify people's identity in Nigeria, that monumental task falls on his ministry. So it is only out of mediocrity that he is wishing to vet another agency's policy when his own ministry is not doing its job. |
Politics › Re: "Daggash: Even The President Can't Redenominate The Naira." by McKren(m): 2:49pm On Aug 31, 2007 |
Afam: I think I agree with the minister.
Considering the fact that the president will be held accountable for anything that happens in this country until 2011 every single major policy must be brought to his knowledge.
That Soludo failed to realize this beats my imagination silly.
The independence being granted to CBN does not mean that it can wake up one morning and tell Nigerians that from tomorrow we will be using Zimbabwean dollar, no, such will not stand. Do you honestly think Yaradua did not know that Soludo was going to announce Naira re-denomination before it was announced? The planning minister or whatever should come up with ideas to move Nigeria forward, he should not sit back to wait to be consulted by other agencies. Sometimes when you hear Nigerian politicians talking about not being consulted you think they mean that in good faith, some are just angry that may be contract and kickbacks wont come to them from the project. However I am glad at the way Soludo managed the situation, lets forget about Naira re-denomination for now. We are still watching and waiting for Yaradua, all he does right now is setting up commitees that only reverse other people's policies. |

Iyke-D: @tundewoods
And your assumption in saying the above is that there won't be anyone "merry-go-rounding" at the expense of the entire nation in this present dispensation? There won't be any crop of new millionaires or billionaires that will be made in Yar Adua's tenure? Are you so sure of this?
Its fine if you are, but I can bet that you will be disappointed because sooner or later new policies will be created that will ultimately benefit a handful. It may not be Dangote or Femi, but some other Nigerians will be made by Yar Adua's policies. Time will tell. Will obviously not worry too much if the new set of millionaires are Nigerians, but their are speculations that Tanimu Kurfi (Yaradua's de-facto Chief of Staff) is lobbying the Lebaneese Chagouri's to come and be Nigeria's Billionaires of this dispensation. |

Yaradua, his new Finance Minister and his new AGF should come up with new ideas that will move Nigeria forward not just cancelling other people's innitiatives all in the name of adhering to 1950 bureaucracies re-baptised as due-process. |

Abeem: Yes, to those of us who are not well-versed in politics, that decision was not a wise one. When they say politics is a game, you bet it is true, but you've got to know the tricks of the game. An astute politician would have recognized that the presidency or the power brokers behind the appointment of ministers have laid a land mine ahead of him with the appointment of his deputy as the Federal Finance Minister, and he would have tread softy not to hit the mines.
Unfortunately Soludo is a scholar, a first class economist, not a career plotician or career civil servant. He was not schooled in the art of the political intrigues that goes behind the corridors of power. He trust only on his intellect and brain power, both of which are not sufficient to succeed in politics without a godfather of a sort. I think it is absolutely correct to say that OBJ was Soludo's godfather and since OBJ is no longer in power, he needs another godfather to protect him from misiles being thrust at him by those opposed to him and those interested in his job.
I read today in This Day that he holds first class in Economis, distiction in both his masters and PHD and above all he is an excellent speaker. If you have this God given talents plus a job that is the envy of all, you cannot at all times be free from arrogance and pride. And on ocassions when you are in such fits of pride and arrogance it is possible that you have stepped on the toes of some powerful people. To say that these people are now in power and are looking for ways and means to ease him out of office with this opportunity that have presented itself will not be far from truth. So shameful to see people celebrate the misguided politics that has always put a cog in the wheel of progress, and that is why Nigeria is in the sorry state that it is today. If American leaders played politics with the future of their country you would not have found it attractive to go and reside there. |

Those dieing in their quest to find Bin Laden are dieing in vain as one of George Bush's first act after the bombing of Twin Towers was to move Osama's family to safety. However if you wish to sacrifice yourself as a pawn in the chess game its your call, then go join the US Army and help find Bin Laden.
But if you were hoping that finding Bin Laden will be part of Nigeria's foreign policy, I am sorry cos only a misguided Nigerian Government will do that. |

ojobayo: Northern agenda ??
There might be something there, They love money so much, Anyways. I think Soludo had a good idea but it is ill adviced if the Gov of the land heard it for the first time via news. That is a policy change. Policy changes are a President's legacy, On the other hand, it takes 2/3 of the sentate to fire the Gov of CBN.
Here's my take. It cold have being done gradually with a new name to the new Currency. I thought it was really dumb calling it Naira, They could have ran both in parallel and let the old currency run itself out.
The truth of the matter is Nigeria will be better served with fewer currency in circulation. This could also be archived with Debit and Credit Card (Bad word in Nigeria) That is a very brilliant suggestion, may be you send this through e-mail to the CBN. |
Politics › Re: Soludo Dropped From National Economic Team by McKren(m): 3:02pm On Aug 25, 2007 |
Soludo did not take any decision alone, he is never assuming he was Nigeria's President.
Yes maybe all he sort was oral go-ahead, but he obviously had a go-ahead from the Presidency as the spokesman of CBN has lately confirmed. In fact the way Micheal Aondoakaa was enphsizing on written permission I suspected that was the case.
How many policy summersaults would we have, the President is simply weak and contemptous. If this President honestly thinks Nigerians voted for him, I remember him campaigning pledging to maintain OBJ's reforms but right now he is simply spending more time destroying the reforms he pledged to defend. He appointed one IG and re-appointed another 24hrs latter, he clipped the EFCC wings 24hrs latter he changed policy, now it is CBN.
This is simply poor leadership and all Yaradua's activities has incompetence written all over it. |

The attorney general said he was leaving the venue of the press briefing to “communicate to the CBN Governor within 10 minutes, to stop all actions on the re-denomination of the Naira until he has obtained written approval from the President.” http://nigeriamasterweb.com/paperfrmes.html |

Micheal Aondoakaa has not resigned for his own summersault of last 3wks.
He is rather launching more onslaughts, the question is may be he has been executing the President's dirty Job. His argument on suspension of naira redenomination emphasizes so much on obtaining the Presidents approval in writting that am beginning to wonder that may be Soludo might have been given an oral approval and an overzealous Soludo went on with his job.
Is the coup to undermine certain people in Government still on? Only time will tell. |
