If this happen the world will never know a better negative definition of the word SYNERGY where our combined problems will be bigger than the sum of our individual National problems. |
Trustboy n-guageThis is the most spot on reply on this thread. No one really knows what opposition means in Nigeria these days, the number one legitimate opposition leader this country knows right now is Buhari. He contested against PDP in 2003 and 2007. That is what opposition means not picking up quarells with the authority when you are told to stop looting. All When I saw the passionate post by Aisha, simply can not describe in words how I felt reading the first. But became utterlly disappointed that people will choose to corrupt this thread with politics of selectivity. If those who tried to divert attention from the issues raised by Aisha were merely being naive, I am sorry for them. But if they were playing politics with this issue I can not say anything else but can only be ashamed of them. |
Only a handfull Nigerians can do their jobs effectively given the sort of pressure Ribadu faces. Only a hand full. Ribadu this Ribadu that, very soon we will start asking Ribadu to probe our On the issue of plea bargain It is acceptable anywhere in the world, if you own up and not waste the judges time you are likely to get a reduced sentence. On whether 6 months is long enough While it might not be so long, the priority should be on recovering the loot. This country has not fed its citizens on the streets let alone catering for people who can be of economic use to themselves. There is no point keeping people in Prison for too long especially if they are no danger to the public. I think 6months is not too bad. Trust me no one wants to be reckoned as an ex-convict, expecially for corruption as that is likely to destroy everything that makes you you. On EFCC and OBJ People must separate emotions from facts. That OBJ was Petroleum Minister for 100 years, that he had 1 Naira yesterday but has 1trillion Naira today or that he bought a car for his girlfriend etc. none of these will stand as evidence in any court of law. As long as no one can categorically present dossiers detailing how OBJ diverted public funds into private interest then probing OBJ will remain the wishful thinking of his political enemies or intentional campaign of calumny. People will go to punch, thisday, tribune, independent, leadership, proving they know how corrupt OBJ is, the easy bit which is to simply walk into an Abuja Highcourt to innitiate court proceedings no one does it. why ![]() ![]() ?EFCC says it has no case against OBJ, anyone who doubts it simply has evidence that EFCC does not have and should simply do this country the favour of approaching an Abuja Highcourt. Aliyu Gusau was NSA for 6 years he should know of OBJ's illicit dealings if their is one, Tony Anenih was OBJ's right hand man for so long he should also be in the know. These men have since fallen out with OBJ and pitched tents with OBJ's political enemies. Why havent they furnished the opposition what they know so that we can put this matter to rest. To me all these attempts to tell the EFCC how they should do their job is diversion of attention. |
Obong I will not go into any kind of argument with you because the Igbos did not and have never known truer friends and allies than the Efiks and Ibibios. |
Nigerians need to wake from slumber Is it not better to pay someone huge sums and they work honestly than to pay them pea nuts and they loot mega sums at the end of the day? What Okonjo-Iweala earned as Finance Minister dollar+Naira will in no way near 1/10th of what Adamu Ciroma made from 1999-2003. |
I think a lot of people are yet to figure out what it means to be President. |
Why Okonjo-Iweala will walk scot free There is no point drawing conclusions by reading the surface value of the constitution. Iweala will appeal her case and she will win. This country has failed a lot of people and they are fed up with the system, call it unpatriotism or whatever but everybody has the right to choose where their loyalty lies. Yes Okonjo-Iweala's office was designated as Minister of Finance just to accomodate her within the structure of Government in place but the fact remains that she was a hired gun. In essence she was not just appointed Minister just like every other Minister, she was hired on some contract terms (which includes her pay package) and that was necessary to lure her out of her job in World Bank at the time to become Finance Minister. She did her job. Designed an economic blueprint that saw us secure debt relief, in general she manged the macro-economics of this Nation excellently. Half-way through her job she became emotionally attached to this country once again and renegotiated her pay to Naira, may be she saw that the administration were actually serious with what they planned to achieve and changed her mind out of her own volition. The money she was paid in dollars she earned by her work, a contract signed by the President of this country who thought at the time that our economy was imploding if drastic measures were not taken and she could revive it. It does not matter what anybody thinks right now out of hindsight, the money paid to her was lawful and the judgement by that court will be overturned. This woman was humiliated out of office inspite of her work because of the kind of politics that obtains in this country, her marriage almost got destroyed because of the time she spent here, I don't think she needs another humiliation from the justice system. |
Laudate I did not say her statement might not sound abbusive to someone, I only said sons-of-fishermen in itself is not derogatory. Whether the rest of her statement is derogatory depends on who is reading it. Like you rightly pointed out, you definition of her intent was based on prejudice and your previous encounters with her. There is nothing like trying to defend the indefensible, the question is, Is fishing the historical culture and means of livelihood of people of that region? yes it is. If they are, is it wrong or derogatory to call them sons of fishermen ? no it is not. Like ONO pointed out even his own grand-dad was a fisherman. Is it derogatory to call someone son-of-fisherman or son-of-farmer, it is not in common knowledge to do so. Are the children of fishermen of yesteryears carring guns now and kidnapping people? that is the fact, while that satement could be derogatory it is happening in our society everyday. You Laudate did not counter that or accuse her of abusing the act of Kidnapping. You were claiming she is looking down on fishermen which the statement by babyosisi did not suggest. For the records this is what she said The average Igboman now sees those famous pictures of the sons of fishermen with machine guns looking all crazy and wanting to kidnap anything that moves. |
If there is any honesty in the call for perfection by Nigerians who dont think like Nigerians they will spend more time calling for perfection in the lives of ordinary Nigerians as seen in the pics below, than calling for perfection on how a thief is treated. They should tell us if those they claim to think like will sit back and watch their citizens go through this sort of life.
|
Obasanjo is a farmer, his sons are sons-of-farmer. I was only using that to prove to you that there is nothing derogatory in refering to people who their forefathers were predominantly fishermen as sons-of-fishermen. You, Laudate, are the one misconcieving the term as an abuse because in our society fishermen are not generally so rich. In a society where fishing or farming thrives people are happy to be identified with what their farthers do. So, sons-of-fishermen or sons-of-farmers or sons-of-traders is no abuse. |
Laudate I dont think Babyosisi was looking down on fishermen, after all the former President of Nigeria is a farmer. She was only pointing out that the Children of Fishermen have left the legitimate bussiness of their fathers for Kidnapping for money. Go read her comment again. |
THE SPIN DOCTORS ARE AT IT AGAIN In the words of Lai Mohamed lies the untold truth, and it reads "I don’t have the facts, I don’t know the bail conditions. If a man is abroad and is sick, I find it extremely strange for him not to receive visitors," Muhammad said. Those are the kind of words you hear from politicians when they want to be economical with the truth. Alams whether sick or healthy is in EFCC custody, at least his visa to dubai was aquired by the EFCC. So it is important that whoever visits a man in Custody obtains clearance from the authorities. It does not matter whether he was UN Secretary General. If he goes on to see the man in custody without permission it ammounts to security breach. There is no need for propaganda or playing politics with the truth. The second question that needs to be answered is, who determines when Alams is fit enough to stand trial. What is wrong if EFCC thinks Alams is well enough to stand trial as you and I know that the man will wish to remain in hospital bed forever if that is what he will do to stall his trial. Facts on ground show that his trial will begin may be monday, if that is the case is it not right to better assume Alams was simply brought home to continue his court trial. People who have no clue what due process and justice means should stop lecturing us about one. |
Laudatte You are absolutely right, I served in sokoto as late as 2004 and I know what I saw. Even Northern Christains from Kebbi State who were living in Sokoto. A State capital that was also their capital some 15years ago before Kebbi was separated from Sokoto are as vulnerable as southerners during religous crisis. People need liberation in that country. The same State Government officials who propose stict Sharia laws against the constitution are the first to rush to camp to chase new babes. How about Sani Yarima who was busy unlawfully chopping people's arms but yet was looting his State treasury black and blue. People are in bondage and need to understand their rights. |
Mamajama whether you want to accept it or not, Marthin-Luthar Agwai is a world class general. All the confusions brought about by the difficult decisions that needed to be taken by the OBJ administration would not have been possible without an Army boss commited to democracy who knows that the very essence of the Army is for territorial integrity and peace keeping missions abroad. Some ambitious fools would have capitalized on it to claim they want to restore order by ousting the Government of the day. How about the Niger-Delta crisis, it is a breath of fresh air to know that we have General a who knows that the problem is one of poverty and needs time and patience to resolve and thus no need to shoot their way through the problem in their quest to finding quick solution. He has changed the orientation of the Army from one that is too political and one willing to be used as a political tool by politicians to one that is commited to its professional duties. In the last political crisis, you can't accuse the Army under Agwai of complicity. Right now he is on a mission to head a joint force in the hope to bring peace to Sudan. I think he is a true general and deserves some respect. |
Nigeria needs a 21st century police boss to overhaul and re-orient them just like Gen. Martin Luthar Agwai did for the Army. |
Xris74:People should not reduce this argument to who is ready to wage a war against the other. This is rather a constitutional crisis that needs to be presented at a competent Abuja court of law for interpretation of the constitution. Kano State Government is playing on the ignorance of their inhabitants. Kano Sate Government does not even have the right to tell Hausa Muslims when or who they should have sex with or when they can drink alcohol or not. It is illegal to do that let alone to compel non-muslims to adhere to it. |
Crownvilla Let them face the real issue of theft; only a fool will fall for their stupid claim that they are being persecuted for opposing and/or supporting OBJ.LOL! you are so right, some of them even supported the two. Look Saminu Turaki he ochestrated the highest political crosstitution in the history of our country thinking that will save him. The message is simple, dont loot and you will not need to be friends with the Presidency to stay safe. LOL when every politician for Jigawa State from councilor to governor move from ANPP to PDP, I say whether them chop juju ![]() ![]() |
Whatever I think people should believe whatever they want, the lives lost then will never come back Let us tackle National issues that might cause more lives in future, the Kano State government is sponsoring a religous police to get people to adhere to a particular way of life. This is illegal. Ono There's no way Igbos will be killed by northerner without some form of provocation from some quartersJust like the recent cartoon of prophet Mohamed in Denmark could cause the killing of compatriots and you are justifying that. |
Dont mind the fool They have given him 200,000 naira busary and he used it to aquire visa to N'Djamena that is why he keeps typing crap. oil, oil, oil he does not even have access to it. Shameless thing, Ateke Tom, Soboma George, and all those he calls his heroes are retired thieves and pickpockets who have found a more acceptable and lucrative criminality in hostage taking. These are boys who go as far as lifting shops in Borikiri area of PH those days. |
ono:You have no shame, every ill statement you direct to the Igbos of 3 decades ago you direct to your present day self. Guess what, the then Igbos fought for what they believed in with dignity. They did not kidnap innocent people and children including their own children for ransom. They did not engage in theft and criminality. They simply stood openly for their right. |
angel101:Angel101 I must say that I have hardly seen any girl at grasp with the politics of Nigeria like yourself. You are so remarkable. Those who do not want to believe the above post should decipher the truth from the present happenings of today. Who between the North and South has a history of violence and who would have instigated the one we had before. There is no point trying to worry too much about by-gones, lets make our present Nigeria right. Let us prevent those who are killing and about to attack their fellow citizens in the name of religion, an act which is against our constitution. |
I will try to answer your topic with all honesty. Every Nation has 2 sectors of the Economy - Macro and Micro The Macro economics of this Nation is managed by the central government and there indices are reflected by GDP, Inflation rate, Currency Exchange rate etc. You can not take away the fact that OBJ and his team did an excellent job in this area. The Micro economics is the aspect that affects the ordinary Nigerian on the streets, and that is most affected by the activities of the lower tiers of Government. By that I mean State and Local Government. If this aspect is where we actually recorded monumental failure is it not suffice to chanel our resources to this tiers of Government so as to improve the standard of living of the average Nigerian. Remember Federal Government played its part by giving states their monthly allocations so why did they fail to deliver. My sister trust me those who talk about probing OBJ first before the Governors are simply diverting attention from the real issues. Dont let anyone decieve you some of them dont want the war against corruption fought and will not say it. However if EFCC probes OBJ and does not find anything, let no one call EFCC selective, they should simply take the evidence they have to court. It must not be done through EFCC. |
OK let us make this easier, the Igbos were the problem please people tell our lovers of peace to stop killing their fellow Nigerians when Mohamed is cartooned in Denmanrk. Tell our lovers of peace to stop killing their compatriots over politics of middle east. Please tell our lovers of peace to stop infringing on the fundamental human rights of other Nigerians as provided by the constitution. Tell our lover of peace to stop sponsoring religous police and practing state religion as it is against our constitution. Tell our lovers of peace to stop imposing their way of lives on other Nigerians who live near them as our constitution gives us the right to live where we like. Tell our lovers of peace that one Nigeria is not only in revenue allocation, it also includes respecting the sanctity of the lives of fellow citizens and appreciating that we can only be one if we are a secular country. |
Why will anything be done about it when every elite politician is trying too hard to prove that they are detriblized Nigerians. A State Government is openly flouting the constitution and nobody says anything. |
I hate no Igbo person.May be what pushed the whole Nigeria against the Igbos should also push the whole Nigeria against your people for their current struggle. I guess you have gotten over the yesterday dose. |
Mamajama So you did not know that Esama was in huge debts before Lucky became Edo State Governor in 1999. In 2003 the Esama's campaign slogan for his son was pickin wey fail no be class him go repeat? |
Please Mamajama Nigerian Police is a model for the characteristic institutional failure in Nigeria. |
denex:Denex there is nothing to find out from Ojukwu because the truth revolves arround our day to day life, we will rather ask you to change your history books. Please do me a favour When you go home today please do a research. Research the population of Imo+Abia+Igbo speaking in Rivers + Igbo Speaking in Delta+ Igbo speaking in Cross River. when you have found that out compare it with the populations of Each of Efik, Ibibio, Annang, Oro, Ibeno, Eket, Itsekiri, Ijaw, Okrika, kalagbari, Ogoni,Bini, Esan, and Afemai and the Yoruba in Ondo alone. When you are done comparing the Igbo speaking in Niger-Delta with each of these Ethnic Nationalities in Niger-Delta, come back and tell me how wrong it is to say "A large part of Niger-Delta are Igbo speaking". I hope you will be man enough to come back and defend this argument or admit that you were wrong afterall. |
are there no Igbos in Niger-Delta? There is no point starting what you cant finish From your posts it looks as if you are from Edo State, Old Bendel State which was as it were then in the old Mid-Western region. Kaduna Nzeogwu who led the coup was from your then region. Most of you people have been fed with lies on who to blame, yet oil well in our zone are owned by the same people who you call your friends. I am complete Igbo. There is no better definition of Niger-Delta than that given in NDDC as shown in its list of Member States. As well as being complete Igbo, I am also Niger-Deltan. They said to us they want One Nigeria, owned our oil and never used it to develop Nigeria. They have not even used it to develop the North they come from let alone Nigeria. We will continue to put people like you who refuse to apply reason and see the truth on the right track. |
denex:I dont think I need to remind you that regardless of the evil machinations of the hawks, a large part of present day Niger-Delta are Igbo speaking. The question is, Let us say hypothetically that the war was all about oil. If I have your stuff and yet lord over you and bully you. Is it down to you or me to protest? |
Denex At the time of the internal ranglings (electoral and census fraud, killing of Igbos in the North) who between North and South first pushed for the division of Nigeria? Denex there is no point reading a doctored history and thinking you know it all. If you wanna know some of the things that would have happened then just immagine how the cartoon of Prophet Mohamed in far away Denmark will lead to death of Nigerians, immagine how a teacher will be murdered onprovoked by her own students, immagine how disagreements between Isreal and Palestine would cause civil unrest in Nigeria then you will begin to understand what may have happened. Ojukwu was fighting for oil, the Gowons and Danjumas were not yet they owned Nigeria's oil wells for so long. I thought we would have been able to use facts on ground to decipher the truth. |
denex:What a shameful reaction to the failing health of a 74year old. |
