Same here bruv. I'll be there at 9:00am tomorrow. Looking forward to meeting you there. Just like I said, "we could have our medicals same day". I hope esquanda's in too. Congrats there.

sleek29: I wrote my test on the 23rd of august, passed d test and waiting for the 1st stage interview, is it possible to do the 3 in a space of 1 week?
In my opinion, NO! Not at this point in time. Please note that I'm not in any way discouraging you.

yommy2sure: when did you do your medicals?
I haven't. They're yet to call me for that, after the penultimate call. Have you? If yes, when? Where's esquanda? We need contributions here and not views oo.

kedra: @macstan-18 pls aw was d very 1st test u wrote in kpmg,what was it like.I'm scheduled 4 a test on monday..pls i need to know.tanx
The test is basically GMAT based(I'm not certain if it's going to be the same this time)- study it very well anyway. Make sure you get to the venue in time so as to enter for the test with a "fresh" head(know what I mean?). Moreso, you just be you- cool, calm & collected. Above all, pray for God's favour. Wish you good success brother.

AjanleKoko: Bros.
I need to be harsh. Apart from Facebook and Twitter, plus Sexuality section on Nairaland, our recent graduates and current undergrads are not doing anything else with their lives. Now they want to run abroad to continue their indolence. They should all be caned, before i even give them any info.

I wish you people know the battle we fight with our oyinbo employers, who are always looking for opportunities to stick a foreigner in our midst, to earn heavy dollars and live in Ikoyi. Na the laws of Nigeria no allow dem.

Plus, I am about to be harsh with you too, my broda. You left opportunities like that to pursue foreign paper?
Foreign paper is not running anywhere. Some organizations are even paying for staff to get foreign paper from solid schools. So many things that can't just be said here on Nairaland. I suppose just dey look as people carry on with their foolishness.

If your popsy has enough money to send you to Harvard, na your luck be that. But if your popsy is like mine, won't you borrow yourself brain?

P.S. 2:1 is almost as good as first class. They will call you to tests and interviews. Now up to you to show your mettle.
Hi Aj,
what about a 2:1 in math from a top Federal university? I am one, and seem to buy your arguements- so credible to be overlooked. Inasmuch as I'm half a step closer to landing a KPMG job, I'd still relish the prospect of being coveted by other top companies around like you succintly pointed out. I don't think I'm doing badly intellectulally myself- you may wish to do a verification on this. I sure look forward to hearing from you(** at yahoo dot co dot uk). What a polymath you are! I'm so impressed

Yours truly,

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Why People Dont Get Jobs by mcstan18(m): 12:33am On Sep 01, 2012
loladeking: "Sent from my BlackBerry®
Smartphone, from Etisalat. Enjoy
high speed internet service with
Etisalat easy net, available at all our
experience centres"

Please people should try and comprehend further. For one I doubt the op meant the signature being present was a bad factor. What I inderstood was that if you applied for a job by pushing your cv to the address without any message in the mail, the only thing the person opening the mail would see in your email body is

"Sent from my BlackBerry®
Smartphone, from Etisalat. Enjoy
high speed internet service with
Etisalat easy net, available at all our
experience centres"

That's what the op meant..OP,am I correct?? Personally, I've written about 8 aptitude tests. I applied for each and every one of them using my blackberry etisalat smartphone...lolz..what a coincidence shey?? I am hoping this month or next month I get called for my second and final interview in one of the places I passed the aptitude test. My observation is this, when I applied to jobs simply by attaching my CV and send, I received no feedback. But in life, change is the only constant thing. You change positively only if you observe the right things, which I did and with research here and there( I mainly use my bb to research, learn and download apps for my pc and movies, instead of wasting the megabyte pinging), I learnt how to write cover letter and also learnt to tailor it to a specific employer. Ever since then I have received aptitude test invite from kpmg,nestle,consobrew,P/G,nestle,mobil,chevron and some others....one thing I also did was to change the format of my CV and that helped a lot.
The thing is am sure I have applied to all the companies in nigeria, both the registered and unregistered companies(even the semi-registered ones) because no matter how hard or discouraging the nigerian condition of always sending out cv seems, I inject positivity in myself and tailor out a cover letter and cv for a particular job application.
Now to the part I want to talk about. One of the numerous reasons we don't get jobb in nigeria is really because a lot of underground runs do go on. 4 months to the end of my service, I passed the kpmg aptitude test and was told I would be called for an interview. That was my first ever aptitude test and to say I was happy would be an understatement. I was over the moon with thoughts of getting a job immediately after service, not minding all the transportation money I spent to lagos from my place of service. Can you believe till this day I have heard nothing from kpmg? I now heard, from a very very very very reliable source that the department I applied for, candidates have already been accepted in there and its now filled up so they didn't know what to do with me(and one other friend of mine)...underground runs...same thing with nestle, mobil and chevron aptitude test I wrote..over how many months now and nothing has been heard. I now strongly believe underground runs are taking place, shortchanging us that naturally followed due process. Please, this is my opinion. I stand to be corrected.
Still, I never give up. All this are challenges meant to be conquered. Right now as am typing this, my status is still jobless graduate and all I have to my name is didty naira. Am planning to start teaching when schools open and also to explore my ICT skills. However Am so positive and prayerful I will get something very soon. I went to school and I excelled for over 18 years to build a career. And build it I WILL
Inasmuch as all you've said here sound pitiable, I must assert that there are companies where standards can never be compromised(kpmg for one). This isn't because I've recently made it through all recruitment stages, far from it. Even if I hadn't, I'd still dough my cap for those guys.
More often than not, people tend to believe they've got no chance whatsoever to get on a company's payroll if they've got no helper within the caucus. I beg to differ! Hardwork(which you seem to be fully indulged in), patience and the God factor most importantly are certainly goina be handy in this treasure hunt.

yommy2sure: Finally, I did my partner interview today and it was nicely nice... I hope for the best. Thanks a lot @mcstan_18..we shall all make it by his grace. Whats up with you @esquanda
Wow! Thank God for that testimony. We could possibly go for medicals same day, don't you think? Not many NLs are in this so the few here must form a formidable partnership.

Chydoz_: Mcstan_18 congrats, by now u should av gone for d medicals at Q life in VI, I pray it comes out fine! Looking forward to seeing you during the training, u must be in audit cos the partner dat interviews audit is a white guy
I'm yet to hear from them, at least until now. I pray it does come out fine oo. Imagine failing medicals after all the rigorous recruitment processes. GOD FORBID!!!
Yeah, I'm in audit(consumer mkt/telecoms I suppose). How do you see the offer? Very attractive right? You should be Chidozie(forensic)

Where's Chydoz_ this time?
Jobs/VacanciesRe: KPMG Second Stage Interviews, What Is It Like? by mcstan18(op):
Hi guys. Had my partner interview today and honestly it was nice. More like a chat session with my 'oyibo' interviewer and nothing different from the preceeding stages. I was told(by my interviewer) that successful peeps would be resuming work on 1st of October after the training. I pray we get there successfully. Once again, CONGRATS to you chydoz. The testimonies will soon be reeling in

esquanda: thanx for that and congratulations. will those of us that wrote the aptitude test in April and yet to be contacted for the partner interview join this Sept 10 batch? just wondering, considering the time it takes to get feedback on an interview, and September is almost here. Any ideas?
it's even possible to have two interviews and medicals in a space of one week. Just pray hard that you make it through to the next stage. Shalom!
Jobs/VacanciesRe: KPMG Second Stage Interviews, What Is It Like? by mcstan18(op): 1:11pm On Aug 27, 2012
Chydoz_: My people fear not just be calm, the partners interview is almost d same like d oda interviews, the partner will just try to pick your brain with brain teasers and ask about your family background, I wrote my test in jan and my partners interview was on july 24th, did my medicals on 26th july and have picked up my offer letter, see you guys in training school on the 10th of sept cheers, not to forget I am in forensic unit. See you guys
Wow!!! That's great news for you brother. Just a few questions please.
1. Do you actually know if some guys were dropped at any of the initial interview stages?
2. Can one possibly fail to make it past the medicals and how many were you guys on that day? Any for audit?
3. Did your letter state the duration of training?
4. Was it also stated to which state/branch you'll be sent to thereafter?
God bless you brother as I hope to seeing you there. Just keep waiting for us(lol).
5. What kind of brain teasers were you faced with? Their general nature wouldn't be bad anyway.

CareerRe: Access Bank Or University Of Porthsmouth by mcstan18(m): 8:49pm On Aug 24, 2012
violent: I wouldn't be so quick to jump on the Access Bank Job. Just cos most of those Bank Jobs tend to be repetitious and provides little incentive for growth in the long run. In another 3 to 5 years, your total experience could be summed up in a couple of lines; which may involve; posting cash balances, handling customer queries, dealing with foreign transfer requests and probably selling the Bank's products. I have often thought to myself that these aren't necessarily responsibilities that anyone would require a University degree to handle and are probably not challenging enough for an unrelenting adventurer. Not especially someone with a degree in Economics. You'd also be giving up opportunities to develop other valuable real world transferable skills and then trade in years of your life for the bank's profitability. I'm also estimating that many Nigerian Bankers from this generation will likely end up broke, angry and frustrated as their employers may be unable to pay them higher than the current inflation rates and no one else outside the banking industry will have any use for their banking experience.

I also think University of Porthsmouth is a terrible way to spend money!...Not only will you be overpaying for a degree that adds very little to your attractiveness to future employers, you won't be getting as much as a "thank you for coming note" from the British government once you are done. "Ship em back" has been the 10 downing street phrase for some time. If you aren't getting your degree from either Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL or LSE...you'd be better off keeping your money in a Piggy Bank (a bad idea tho!)

Okay, we are done with two of your choices, what's the third option? don't tell me there isn't one....or you haven't thought of one?

By now, you will probably have wished my computer had crashed before i got the opportunity to type this trash. But then, if i were in your shoes and i don't have access to a sustainable source of income and i couldn't find any other well paying job and my parents are ready to kick me out of the house and i'm having peer pressure to "step up" like my mates, i probably would take the Access Bank offer.

....if not, i would try a career teaching economics and mathematics or both, while studying hard for GMAT/GRE exams in the short term.
I'm so loving your idea in this. That's about the bitter-sweet truth. Thumbs up violent.

But, I wouldn't mind if you kindly share with me how he got the job at Total. I am a fresh graduate from PTI and I would really need a tip or two that could help along the way in my job hunt. My email is in my signature (yyy @ zzz . com). Thank you in advance.
