Adekoolz: Hello good people, and many thanks to you all.
I am kinda new here though I have been reading this thread for a week now, pretty long I must confess but I have a question and would really appreciate if someone can guide me.
Brief summary of myself: I am 24 years and I have about 3 years work experience in Quality Assurance and software testing as well as Project management with an IT firm. I graduated from Babcock university in 2013 and served and been working since then. I recently just decided to pursue immigration to Canada. The question I have now are listed below:
1.I tried to get my WES evaluation done, i have registered and I have my school transcript with me as i had requested for it about 2 years ago, though I have opened the seal but its still signed. can I still use it for my WES evaluation or I have to request for another transcript?
2. Who can point me to IELTS study materials that they have used and proven helpful recently?
3. Is it wise for me to go through EE route or I should try going for my masters in Canada considering my age.
Would appreciate a prompt response.
Thank you all 1). You have to request another transcript. Check the requirements by WES at https://www.wes.org/required-documents/ 2). Check on YouTube. There are myriads of video materials that are really good for study and practice. You may also wish to check http://ieltsliz.com/. It's a very good resource. 3). If I were your age with the number of years of work experience etc, I'd give IELTS a shot and go through the EE route. I think you'd stand a very good chance there.
Good luck in your decision making |

Newmum0615: You will do fine. Engage in a little more practice and learn the tips. And then pray to whichever God you believe in. In 2 weeks, you will dance. That was a soothing piece. My preparations have been undiluted and my sample test practices have been excellent (Listening and reading at least). Even at that, the anxiety doesn't seem to go away. I just hope and fervently pray it all reflects in the main stuff. Thank you Newmum0615. |

Emmasonic4me: After talking for about 2 minutes during the part 2 of the speaking test, the examiner dozed off apparently, or rather obviously due to exhaustion.
I had observed him/her do this intermittently, however, I couldn't do anything so as not to be captured on the recorder.... Mehn, after the 2 minutes, I gently tapped on the table to wake him/her and we continued from there. I wanted to use my legs but we are far apart.
Don't tell me s/he doesn't grade it, otherwise what do they scribble on the piece of paper they have with 4 columns which seem to tally with the 4 band descriptors??
Have been thinking about it... I command her to bless you with nice scores in Jesus name. Let someone not come and go and fall your hand because of her inefficiencies.
Yeah, I also think they use that paper for grading cos my examiner scribbled down stuff like 8, 7.5, 8 and 7.5 during and after my half-baked stories. She nearly caught me peeping into her paper. I hope that thing I saw reflects sha.
Anyone here for the Saturday written tests? |

Some people here wants everybody to believe that VAT from alcohol is only gotten from 'southern states', so the north shouldn't benefit from it since it's destroying alcoholic products. And you must be very ignorant if you think government officials don't squeeze hajj pilgrims over payment of vat Young man please hold your breath. Education › Re: Why Do Engineering Students Brag To Know Maths More Dan Mathematics Students by mcstan18(m): 11:42am On Feb 16, 2016 |
tanimola22: I wanted to pass up this statement but decided to respond in order to enlighten the younger people who might be reading this.
Yes, your submission used to be very true at least 10 years ago, but things are changing. The number of people choosing to study Mathematics at undergraduate level has risen astronomically over the last 10 years. This partly is responsible for the increase in cut-off marks for gaining admissions into Maths. It's also responsible for the improved performances of Maths undergraduates nowadays as more and more intelligent people are choosing to study Mathematics as their first choice. Previously, it was 'they gave me Maths because I couldn't enter Engineering or Computer Science. Now, it's becoming ' I'm doing Maths because I chose it while filling my JAMB form. The result - a sharp increase in 1st class, 2:1 and 2:2 Maths graduates.
When I did Mathematics some years ago, nobody wanted me to do it because they thought the only option I had was to become a teacher. The thing is that the awareness of the relevance of Mathematics has grown in leaps and bounds over the years, and many people are making a more informed decision to study Maths because they, at least, have a clue of where it's likely to land them.
The notion of people reading Maths because they couldn't get into Engineering is fading, and we need to be aware of this. It is however not untrue that some people still accept Maths because they couldn't get into not only Engineering but also Computer Science.
If you genuinely have access to JAMB/Post-UME data, you'll agree that my somewhat contrarian opinion is plausible. I totally agree with you Tani. I studied mathematics and even though it wasn't what I filled as my preferred course of study, I have NEVER regretted my decision to do the switch. We had only about 21 persons in my final year class some 7-8 years ago (with just 8 graduating eventually), but as at today there are nearly 50 persons in final year mathematics class at my alma matter. Times have changed and mathematicians are highly sought after in various industries and institutions, if you pass with good grades. I have in the past couple of years mentored a couple of bright teenagers into studying mathematics. They have since been very thankful for the kind gesture. |

Iamtosin: With heart and eyes filled of tears I write this and I want everyone to learn from my experience
I passed the bank's entry level test last year November, I wrote another test this year Feb, then I passed, scaled through the first interview and also the second interview which was a panel interview.
I then got called to come for a final one which was a chat with the group head.
From our conversation I knew I was going to have a problem with the man. I never knew he was a deeper life man. I was neatly dressed with nice hair cut. At the end of our conversation when he asked which area of lagos I stay and I told him, his countenance changed and told me 'you can go' without the conventional 'do you have any questions for us'
Few minutes ago, I got a message that I wasn't recommended after all what I sacrificed for this job. I will never forget this experience and I think I will always hate anyone that bears this man's name You have made absolutely no sense with your post. First you mentioned your interviewer being a deeper life member, how did you get to know and what has that got to do with your misfortune?
Next you conclude that it was due to your area of residence that you were not considered for the position. That's about the silliest statement I've come across this year. If I may ask, where do you live that is worse than every other place in Lagos? Aren't there people in your neighborhood who work in decent offices (even on the island)?
My advise to you is go and work more on developing yourself and pray hard also rather than lay silly blames. |
