ask4bk: If I run AC, that thing that consumes 1kwh, by morning won't it finish my 14kwh battery? Except i run it for like 6 hours at night only.
But truth be said, during the day the panels are wasting coz after charging at 4kwh from solar, once its filled up at 10am, it reduces to 400w which is all I use during the day. Over 3kwh from solar that could handle AC is just wasting.
To consider again is, do you think it'll stress the 5kva felicity inverter? If it's an inverter 1HP AC the consumption is actually less. Yesterday I did 11 hours and 57 minutes m, let's just say 12 hours, and used 6.87kwh. that's like 0.57kwh per hour. So no, you won't use 1kwh every hour. |

TheCreatorVerse: I need review on this Solar Panel
Type = 200W Mono Price = ₦53,000 Brand = Sun Field
My questions are: 1. Is this panel genuinely mono? 2. Is the price reasonable? 3. How reliable are Sun Field products? 4. Overall, is this a good-quality Solar Panel? Not too bad according to the price. Not tier 1 though. Good for someone starting off the renewable journey that is buying materials that won't break the bank. I've seen loads of Sun Field products in the Nigerian market. But Sun Field is not a known company outside of Nigeria, I suspect an importer just slapped that name on products they customised/bought in China for sell in Nigeria. That said, I can't say anything about the reliability as this name brand is only seen in Nigeria. Haven't used any of their products though. |

bkuranga: Thank you. This breakdown will help a lot.
Could you please recommend an inverter to use for this?
I had a guy recommend hybrid Felicity inverter offline, do you think this is a good option? So sorry for the too many questions already. Felicity not bad. Transformerless hybrids are cheaper but often, in general terms, not as rugged as transformer based inverter in handling surges. Felicity IVPS/IVPM series are transformer based. The Felicity IVPM has hybrid series. The Felicity IVEM hybrid models are transformerless and of course cheaper. So you can check out Felicity's IVPM hybrid series. |

ojesymsym: Inverter ACs vs Regular ACs?
Are the inverter ACs energy efficient enough to justify their extra cost over regular ACs, which are also getting fairly energy efficient on their own?
What are your thoughts folks? On 23/10/24, for 22 hours and 15 minutes, the total energy consumption was 11.36 kWh. That's an average of 0.51 kWh per hour—pretty impressive for a 1 HP AC. Someone should do the same for a non-inverter AC; let's compare. So far, I have no regrets about paying extra to get an inverter AC. The AC make is LG, and it is a Dual Inverter model. FYI: Figures may change due to a variety of factors, such as the temperature of the location, room size, room insulation, how many times doors are opened and closed, the number of people in the room, the temperature set on the remote for the AC, and the AC mode in use, etc.

bkuranga: What solar setup would you guys recommend for a frozen food business on a budget?
Aim is to use 2 freezers.
Do you have any efficient freezer you can recommend too? Check for any inverter freezer with low wattage.. check specs on the freezer before buying. Scanfrost inverter freezers are pretty energy efficient. I'll attach the spec sheet of a 215L non inverter Scanfrost freezer as an example. You can start with the following: 1) 3kva inverter (preferably transformer based inverter) 2) 5kwh of battery 3) 6 nos of 400w Solar Panels for a start. You can increase this as business grows. The freezer (attached below) at highest consumption takes 160w, that implies if it runs for 12 hours daily it'll consume 160w X 12hours = 1.92kwh. So 2nos of it is 3.84kwh. You don't really need to run it up to 12 hours as it'll be frozen long before this. Let the ogas at the top provide cost of above. Cheers.

Oshomo12: Sizing your solar system and energy efficient equipment is the key. I use my gen in a very very bad weather conditions, around that August. Before I switched to LifePo4, about a year ago, I use an average of 20litrs or less in a year to run my gen. But this year, I have not use 1litr of fuel, desipte the bad weather conditions from July to September.
But always keep your gen handle. For the past 7 years, I don't own a gen. Out of 7 years I stayed two years without NEPA (Naija is not a real place. NEPA downtime due to bad transformer, many packed out of the area). Zero personal power downtime in all these events. In bad weather I just drop high loads and life continues. kristien4: imagine changing a while board for 100k, when u can just detect the wrong capacitor/resistor and change for less than 5k. Nigerian technicians are lazy. Change panel, change board, whereas na one small component inside the board them suppose change. That's wasteful. Most tech can keep your inverter for weeks "troubleshooting". If I see the option of swapping out that board I'll take it. We have a lot of inexperienced people claiming to be repair tech who do "trial and error" with your inverter. This same thing is applicable to phone and laptop/PC repair people. I watch one dude that repairs phone on YouTube and I just know 80%, or more, of our repair technicians are just simply amateurs who has no idea on how a phone works. Because this dude can change super tiny components (IC) and have got crazy tools to detect faults and have crazy knowledge of how the phone motherboard works. Tools I'm sure most of repair tech don't even know of their existence! |

bassdow: A lot of them do this. As in, I see them a lot of times.
They wash and grade according to neatness, with fresh new stickers ready to be applied. Let's not talk of the fact a lot of batteries , charge controllers, inverters, drilling machines, etc are made specifically on request of Nigerian individuals who then brings them into the country as IMPORTs to be sold as foreign brands.
Make I share small expo : If your charge controller / inverter / etc; shares parts with other brands, often times they fall into such category. Cutting corners/cheating others for profit is now termed "smartness" in Nigeria. God dey. |

GreaterFuture: Slow shipping, is one. Sometimes misdirection of goods... Happens well well. A package may be in Nigeria already long after customs and they will still be problems just within Nipost to delivering to you or whatever issues that that may arise at that moment all within NIPOST.
Yes, Customs steal, well wel, but NIPOST itself also Steals! It has stopped now obviously. The 7/10 rating you are giving them is based on recent years, the rejuvenation and change in the last 5, to 7, 8 Years. And/Or you being Lucky.
Go and check & research on the situation of NIPOST since the 90s... we have been using NIPOST since the late 90s early to mid 2000s, there are more than enough stories. Even from the time of this new rebirth, there are more than enough stories. Must've been lucky as I've been actively dealing with them since 2014. More than 400 packages since then before Speedaf came into the game.

I will check my bookmarks on twitter now and share like three tweets/ thread there I saved. Long long discussions on the behaviour & history of NIPOST, from times back to recent times. This very common knowledge. Only got one issue of theft via post office. But I doubt it was the post office people, may likely be customs. Got a refund from AliExpress though. If I'm to rate NIPOST that's a 7/10. The only thing I find annoying is the slow shipping, when compared with Speedaf. Also their sometimes slow rate of updating tracking. bassdow: of course, any rechargeAble fan is low-power irrespective of the brand name. where you would encounter issues is battery runtime (that's how long the battery lasts per charge) BUT that's only if you plan on relying on it's in-Built battery.
If you not planning on relying on it's built-in battery, would suggest buying any USED but working rechargeAble Fan, and use it on Solar.
You need not invest much on the solar part (that's if you don't already use Solar). Something as small as 100AH battery and a single Solar panel with cheapest charge Controller would over Serve you.
If you already running Solar in said location, it becomes way easier.
Another is, except you know what you doing, please avoid Mist Fans (those that spray water to further cool the environment). My major reason be say dem dey quick spoil and I'm not just frugal but always does my best at ensuring reliability in things I use. My Mist Fan is now 6 years. Battery is long dead. Brand is Swan Crazy thing, every thing still works including the mist feature, which I hardly use, as I've upgraded to AC. |
