So cuz we could afford it in 2012 we should have contunued paying for what we could eliminate?
The best time to remove subsidy would have been when it was affordable for our economy cuz by now we would have stabilized and cushioning would have been easier.
Yes.

PoliticsRe: Full List Of Saraki’s Property In 2003 by MeAboki(m): 10:57am On May 12, 2016
olokeded:
Mr. Paul Erokoro (SAN) appeared today as a counsel to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

The Senior advocate revealed to the tribunal properties owned by Senator Bukola Saraki in 2003:

Vehicles worth N263,400,000.

1. Mercedes Benz S320 valued at N16m

2. Mercedes S500 valued at N20m

3. Mercedes G500 valued at N6m

4. Mercedes V220 valued at N2m

5. Ferrari 456GT valued at N25m

6. Navigator valued at N15m

7. Mercedes MN240 valued at N8.5m

8. Peugeot 405 valued at N2.9m

9. Mercedes CLK 320 valued at N9m

10. Mercedes E320 valued at N11m

11. Mercedes G500 bullet proof valued at N45m

12. Mercedes S500 valued at N30m

13. Lexus jeep bullet-proof valued at N30m

14. Linclon Navigator bullet proof valued at N25m.

Landed property was worth between N2.5bn and N3.5bn

Cash worth about N50m.

TOTAL

Saraki’s total asset in 2003 - $22m

Wife - £12m

First child - €2.6m

Second child - N4bn

http://www.metronaija.com/2016/05/full-list-of-sarakis-property-in-2003.html
If he has nothing to hide, then he should also list the landed properties individually as he had done for the vehicles, including their locations and how he may have legitimately acquired the means to own such properties - then I will disagree with David Cameron that Nigeria is not fantastically corrupt.
PoliticsRe: Press Statement On Fuel Subsidy Removal In Nigeria, By Kachikwu by MeAboki(m): 10:00am On May 12, 2016
oloriooko:
Ironically youare the one obviously ignoring the facts
The crux of the matter is that subsidy is not good for our economy, total deregulation of the downstream sector is the wisest thing to do irrespective of financial buoyancy or otherwise.
People should stop defending obvious wrong selfush action of occupying Nigeria, it was politically motivated. So you think if oil price is above $100 today PMB will not remove subsidy?
Most govts subsidize one thing or the other in order to provide social relief to the poor or drive policies in a particular direction.
The real issue is whether the govt of the day could afford it or not: the answer is yes as at 2012 during GEJ's leadership when crude sold at over $150; and No presently because the country can no longer afford it due to vastly reduced income from crude at about $40 - do the maths, the difference is clear.

Then you want a prophet for a leader not a president because it would require someone with supernatural foresight to have predicted the huge crash in crude price (main source of govt revenue including forex to sustain such subsidy) that we have just witnessed in the last 12 months.

U are being clever by half. U are the type that castigates GEJ not saving while paying trillions in subsidy. Now u are tongue twisting that he had money to spend so no need to remove subsidy. SMH for u!
And you are one of those still blindly supporting GEJ's wasteful mis-governance; he had surplus but didn't save and at the same time wanted to remove subsidy to the detriment of the masses, so that he and his cronies could continue the unprecedented rape of this country (remember his public endorsement of looting of govt funds - stealing is not corruption) - part of the the consequences we are now paying for.
My mind boggles at how some youths of today could still be celebrating a govt or group of politicians responsible for stealing and mortgaging their future - SMH at such blind sentimental mentality.
PoliticsRe: Press Statement On Fuel Subsidy Removal In Nigeria, By Kachikwu by MeAboki(m): 9:58pm On May 11, 2016
oloriooko:
How can you commend a govt that vehemently opposed the removal of same subsidy by previous regime?
The unfriendly effect of this removal would have been overcome by now and the govt would have had enough to cushion the effect. So in effect APC shot itself in the foot by opposing something that was too important to our economic development.
Please whenever we support any party we should be objective rather than being gullible followers, these politicians have taken us for rough rides too long.
You are still ignoring the basic realities between the two circumstances before Jonathan and Buhari and therefore my point:

Jonathan had surplus money to support the subsidy and therefore had no justification for removing it; while Buhari doesn't have that kind of money to maintain it and is therefore justified in removing it.

bejeiodus:
The statement was well worded. It was a euphemic way of announcing the removal of fuel subsidy. It is so disheartening that we would have long gone past this if today's proponents of subsidy removal had not opposed the policy four years ago. I hope Nigerians can see clearly how they were fed lies to stir up their anger against Jonathan.
It is the way to go, but Nigerians need to ask those who came up with the policy why they resisted the removal four years ago.
The APC must apologize to Nigerians, particularly families of those who lost their lives during the subsidy protests. It is the only way of showing contrition for misleading millions of people.
The circumstances during Jonathan/PDP and now under Buhari/APC are not the same:
Jonathan had surplus earnings from crude (at over $150/barrel) to spend on subsidy when he was presiding over his corrupt wasteful govt; while Buhari/APC is only having about 1/4 of such earnings from crude (at about $40/barrel) and clearly do not enjoy the same luxury Jonathan had - there is therefore no cause for APC to apologize because they cannot be blamed for the fall in current crude price and therefore the attendant fall in revenue that could have otherwise sustained such subsidy - rather, the govt should be commended instead for taking this bold step.

Sorry, no comparison when GEJ tried it he was presiding over a wasteful corrupt govt; with surplus earnings from crude oil at over 150 dollars/barrel; compared with present earnings at around 40 dollars/barrel,which is approx 1/4 previous earnings; you will begin to see reasons why Buhari has no alternative than to remove subsidy - at least now we will begin to see petrol to buy.

If true then the community should quickly get in touch with the Fulani elders and discuss how they can settle them or else they should learn how to sleep with one eye opened from now onwards; because the Fulani do not forgive or forget, taking revenge is part of their culture and they have all the patience to wait until they can extract their pound of flesh (sometimes lasting many years); moreover they have an extended brotherhood spanning the whole of West Africa and beyond, when the time is ripe all they need to do is to send kola of invitation to their distant cousins for re-enforcement - its as simple as that.

Imagine: you kill their cow and then beat up one of their elders; lallai trouble dey sleep yanga wake am, these villages didn't know what they have started.

He spoke didn't he and BTW how would that have brought the dead back to life?
Besides, he'd been acting quietly and responsibly behind the scene, in order to avoid unnecessarily heating the polity - you can as well check on his orders to the various security agencies and also on the proposed grazing bill - all aimed at curbing the problem.
