Yes, my passion for the teaching and experience over the years which has made the job a lot easier are my driving force plus the fact that I work on part time bases and on my own terms are all the reasons I'm still in this profession otherwise I would have dropped it.

Something happened recently in one of my schools. A guy that teaches the secondary section physics and science with one other subject was shortpaid because he came late a few times. He got angry and left. The school started calling and begging him. The guy said he's only going to come back on part time bases and gave them his terms and conditions. They accepted and he resumed back last week. That was how a full time teacher became a part timer overnight.

Teachers are really revolting.

NO now it's not fair. These schools are making money but to bring out money and pay their teachers well is a problem.

Teaching is not an easy task and these school owners can not teach if worse comes to worse.

For us partimers that teach the whole school from kg to secondary, I know the challenge we face every day teaching them how to read from sound blends, to word building to sentence formation and reading and comprehending English passages, at the end of the day the school takes credit for our job and they still find it difficult to appraise the teachers.

All the children I taught in kg are now in secondary school and can read courtesy my subject from the scratch. Some have even finished secondary school. If not for us, will they be able to attain such academic heights?

Lol. I can actually relate bro, every bit you wrote up there are what makes it difficult for schools especially private one to recruit good teachers these days... But teaching is a profession, by the time you spend certain years teaching, you would have developed a kind of passion for it. Just that the passion will not last if due reward is not forthcoming.


I am a teacher by virtue of Nigeria situation but av developed a good passion over the years. I presently head a school and I do find it difficult to down pay new staffs while holding oral interview with them, but I have a seemingly limited liberty to diversify, or upgrade the pay beyond our pay slips because I'm answerable to my Oga too. You know people decide to manage what they could lay their hands on when the desires are out of reach. I'm afraid the next crop of generations might find it difficult to have a qualitative primary education, because struggling schools will definitely find it difficult to get good teachers into their schools.

Nigerian teachers are underpaid and not compensated enough for their efforts. Imagine a school to still be paying 20, 25k for a whole month and you expect people to still remain in the profession.

I pray in the nearest future, everyone shuns the teaching profession so that olodo generation wen una wan breed una go see am breed very well. Very heartless people.

I approached a school head about increment and she was telling me, sheybi you have other schools now. . Very unprofessional way to reason. I asked her, are you counting my schools or what? Why bring my business with other schools into our discussion and how does it concern you,? she now said, eeh.. we can't do anything for now. .

I was passing by one school yesterday, if you see the long leather banner they used for their vacancy advert ehn.. I say una never start. To think this is an old school and not like theyre just staring but if you see the long list of vacancy? Hm.

It's high time. I've always been praying for this day when teachers will become scarce then and only then will the society know their value.

By the time everyone will abandons the teaching profession the govt and all concerned will wake up and do something about their remuneration.

This is totally unnecessary and unacceptable. Football is a game of two outcomes, you loose or you win. Though, it doesn't seem that simple to swallow a defeat on one nation, but we have to be humane as much as possible and be civil. Should all these journalist and those who cruelly vandalized the team school bus been on the team list or other team crew, would the have spit such venum on themselves? No. But I believe humane are wired to be irrationally emotional.

When I think about the dominance of state govt over local govt, I feel bad taste in my mouth........i mean, our leaders do spend some times in other developed nation, and they see how local authorities autonomy prevails in these states. I hence, sense a deliberate attempt to underdevelop our states by these past cruel leaders.

The dumb knows that empowering local govt will bring a rapid development to our states. But they have chosen to use the current outdated constitution to ensure that only the elites environs gets to be developed at the expense of average citizens.

If that request was constitutionally granted. I PRAY NOT! I would have a learner sign attached to my body and never publicly or verbally engage anyone.

Reasons: we had never been able to control any freedom given to us. That's how human is wired....

I equally disagree, do you mean the almagamation system should be embraced? Is the diversity practice in the U. S/U. K thesame practice in Nigeria. Is their central govt as powerful as we have it here? Are there not state and community policing in these places? Do states in these states not controlling their local resources? There are gains in cultural diversity of course, but it doesn't work with the deliberate constitution written by few people on behalf of millions of head. It has never worked since it's inception and it's obvious it will never work.

Normally, they should be one of the department lacking adequate money as someone opined, then people could solicit for more fund on behalf of the department. This department has no business hoarding funds or misappropriating it. It's called a humanitarian and poverty alleviation scheme for crying loud.
