Let me tell you of an itan from the Holy Odu Ifa.

Alabi was an unsuccessful trader. His mates were successful traders unlike him. He change markets but his business still collapsed.

He even change the products he was selling but still his business collapsed. He was advised to visit Iwori a renowned Awo.

On getting to Iwori to enquire of IFA the solution to his problem, Iwori told him to give IFA 1 naira. Back then 1 naira was huge amount of money. Alabi became upset and left angrily and he did not enquire IFA because he thought Iwori was fake and wanted to exploit him.

Later, Alabi changed from his trading business and became a fisher man because fishing business at that time was booming.

When his old colleagues from his trading business asked him why he changed his line of business from trading to fishing, he told them Iwori was a greedy, selfish, fake Awo and that he was successful in his new business "fishing" without the help of an Awo.

Alabi kept on telling everyone he met the same story of Iwori and his success in his new fishing business until Esu heard it.

When Alabi was in his boat to check his fishing net, Esu caused Alabi boat to sink. As Alabi tried to swim, Esu caused Alabi fishing net to catch Alabi and drowned him. Alabi died before divers could rescue him and Esu cause the fishes to feed on Alabi copse.

He was brought out of the water by divers, the news got to his family, friends and loved ones. On the day of Alabi burial, Esu cause Alabi whole family to have accident and they all died.

It was such a big tragedy for Alabi family and for the community. The death of Alabi family on Alabi burial day caused questions to be asked by people and elders of the community.

IFA was consulted and they were told Alabi brought the wrath of Esu upon himself and his family and Esu should be serve with one black he-goat, 1 naira, yam with red oil inside native pot. Ebo was offered to Esu as prescribed by IFA and the death in Alabi family stopped.

NOTE ~ Ignorance is not an excuse in African Tradition Religion. Be careful what you bring to yourself and family for many have brought deaths, sickness, disease, misfortunes, curse... etc upon themselves and families unknowingly.
