TAO11:
I didn't even know that he mentioned the Orun Oba Ado topic sha, and I have the work.

Thanks for sharing!

I have started the Ogane issue. And it's the Ooni of Ife not Igbo kings as established by historians.

Read along, bro and share.
Yes, I know without doubt this was all in reference to Ife.

What is striking is all the writers on Benin agreed the Oba has a superior....whether they associate it to Ife, to Nupe/Igala or to Ibo.

That thread was to highlight East and its possibilities in advantage back to Ife.

Catherine Acholonu emphasized Oduduwa as the Idu of creation, the divine-King, as told by narratives of Great Benin classics.

So even if I point to East and Ibo country as the superior monarch mentioned.....there are classical history there to loop and acknowledge superiority and pre-Eminence of Ife.

I believe even Thornton, or perharps Ryder mentioned that even the Northern Arabs, Ibn Batutta specifically, recognized Nyffe (Iffe/Ife) as most powerful and most recognized King-Priest of the region.

No account has ever said Ooni reported to a superior....unlike Benin which every chronicler indeed said was inferior to another king.
This is key!

Politics › Fate Of NDI Igbo Stranded And Molested In China, When Silence Is Goldenly Evil—i by MetaPhysical(op): 3:55am On Apr 09, 2020
Firstly, we of the IGBO RENAISSANCE FORUM would want to salute the courage and resilience of our frontline health workers in this fight against this ravaging and rampaging COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria today. We pray that you stay protected by nature as you save lives.

We want to advise everyone to ensure that safety precautions are followed and that citizens should endeavor to stay at home and help stop the spread of this virus.

We received with amazement and shock the inhuman and demeaning treatment currently being meted out on Ndi Igbo and other Nigerians in China. A few days ago, videos of molestation and intimidation of Ndi Igbo and other Nigerians living in China went viral online. We have taken time to investigate the matter and have confirmed the videos that we received in relation to the incidents recorded as factual.

We want to use this medium to speak directly to the South East political leaders, and specifically to the South East Governors. That your deafening silence in the face of obvious life-threatening circumstances facing your people in China is disdainful and insensitive to put it mildly.

It is sad that these people stranded in China and being subjected to inhuman treatments by the Chinese were quarantined for 15 days and subsequently thrown into the streets and asked to leave, without any consideration whatsoever. From information received from reliable sources, we gathered that hotels have been instructed not to take them in, even as some are being evicted from their living places.

It is even more sad that while our people are being treated like animals in China, our leaders, who were always screaming on podiums during campaigns, vowing and pledging to protect and preserve our lives and rights have decided to be VERY SILENT and are acting as if they are deaf, dumb and blind!

We are waiting for Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) to address this matter with the urgency it deserves. It is disheartening for us as Ndi Igbo to observe the kind of efforts that goes into rescuing citizens from regions other than ours from unsavory situations, only to see a snail speed action when any bad situation seems to affect Ndi Igbo more.

However, we shall not dwell on the lacklustre attitude of the federal government to issues concerning Ndi Igbo as our focus is on our elected leaders in the South East who have become even more fatally lethargic at taking charge and defending Ndi Igbo in recent times.

Our people are going through unimaginable pain and anguish for no other reason but XENOPHOBIA, and yet we have our own brother, Geoffrey Jideofor K. Onyeama as Nigeria's Minister for Foreign Affairs in GOLDEN SILENCE MODE.

WHAT AN IRONY! Some people in some quarters have insinuated that most of the people affected are either not legally resident in China or have criminal records that might affect their exit from the country. For us as an Organization, it is absurd to start attributing and conjuring such ideas without any data of the individuals affected, or even a thorough investigation of the matter to ascertain the legal immigration status of these individuals.

OUR RESOLVE 1. We demand that the South East Governors by Friday 10th of April 2010 should tell Ndi Igbo in definite terms, the course of action on how to engage the federal government to evacuate our people facing homelessness, anxiety, vagaries of the weather and ultimately COVID-19 in China at this moment.

2. That the South East Governors constitute adiaspora interface organization at the shortest possible time, made up of credible individuals to get to work and to quickly come up with a comprehensive welfare report on Ndi Igbo across the globe. This is very pertinent for us, as we battle this pandemic and beyond, for R&grin purposes.

3. We demand that a database of Ndi Igbo stranded in China be raised immediately. That is the only way we can work out an efficient plan for a successful action.

4. We demand that the South East Governors, the South East Parliamentary Caucus and Ohaneze Ndigbo convene an emergency meeting on or before the 15th of April, 2020 to holistically look at the Igbo nation and its survival through this COVID-19 pandemic and beyond as we are tired of the silence in the face of serious threats to our existence by the effects of the measures to combat COVID-19 globally.

We want to state very clearly that Ndi Igbo are fast losing patience with a leadership that has not inspired any hope in those they lead.

We shall be left with no option but to invoke the PEOPLE POWER in the situation where it becomes obvious that the lives of those who took pains to put our leaders in office does not matter anymore.

Finally, we want to give our people who are caught in this unfortunate situation in China hope, that they are certainly not alone, and that we shall not rest until they are safely evacuated back to Nigeria. We ask that they maintain the peace and be of good conduct as great ambassadors.

We shall no more fold our arms and watch! SIGNED: Nze Ugo-Akpe Onwuka (Oyi) International Coordinator - Igbo Renaissance Forum

Culture › Re: Is This Not AROCHUKWU KINGS? Who Is OGANE To The East Of Bini? by MetaPhysical(op): 2:00am On Apr 09, 2020
Here it is in a clearer text -

Linguists and historians agree that the Niger-Benue river valley was the origin of the dispersal of the Kwa language group of the original Niger-Congo linguistic group of West Africa. Since the Bantu group of languages are dispersed from South-Eastern Nigeria, it stands to reason that Bantu was a child of the Kwa language; and that the Niger-Benue was the center of dispersal of the Niger-Congo languages. Ifi Amadiume argues in African Matriarchal Foundations that the Egyptian civilization was an offshoot of this indigeneous West African civilization, and that numerous examples of Igbo cognates in a wide range of Bantu languages support the thesis of an Igbo/South-Eastern Nigerian origin of the Bantu languages. Eri/Idu was the representative of God on Earth.

The fact that Eri/Idu was the great potentate of the Niger Congo/Niger-Benue civilization that grew out of post-deluge Nigeria, is confirmed by the Benin/Edo records of the deluge as narrated in Osaren Omoregie's Great Benin classics. In Great Benin, the oral traditions of the Edo people of Nigeria claims that a post-deluge civilization established , nurtured and upheld by Idu, the survivor of the deluge was located near the waters of the River Niger, then known as Ohinmwi, or Great River. In this Edo/Benin story, the flood which submerged all habitable lands was called Iso Norho. God (Oghene) after saving Iduu/Idu from the floods piled up sand and ceated a plateau on which he ordered Idu to build a temple with a high tower. Idu did as he was told and subsequently became the great representative of God on earth. Idu was the first high priest of God, king and way-shower all combined. He established the first shrine/temple for the worship of the Supreme Being, and it became the first city - a divine palace of God, the first human habitation. "He chose a place at the crest of the territory and mustered the efforts of the people to build a palace for Oghene there. He himself lived there, and he became known as the people's earthly Oghene. Where the palace was built was called Uduwa and he himself was called Oduduwa. ...Oduduwa, Idu, Oghene of Uhe".

Idu/Eri as the representative of God on earth is in consonance with Thoth being the representative of the Dweller on earth: "Emissary on earth am I of the Dweller". The fact that the Yoruba tribe of the Kwa linguistic group claims that the ancestral founder of their tribe was a person called Oduduwa implies that they too were among the descendants of Iduu/Eri. Not only was Iduu the representative of God on earth, he was also revered as the one who received from God/Oghene the power to rule the world and stabilize it. In the Great Benin myth Idu is also called by the divine title Erinmwidu (equivalent Igbo expression: Eri wu Idu) - "Eri is Idu". This title indicates that Eri is the very person whom the Edo tribe calls Idu.

I actually cast doubt in your source of evidence by saying, we have to verify if that statement was ever made by any Benin king, then we have to sort out the contradiction on the title of the supposed powerful monarch/prince, then will move to the location.

I pointed out to you that King and Prince met different things and your source used the title prince more than once.

I even asked and suggested that your source may have been referring to a shrine or an Oracle and not a king at all.

I suggested the location to be a town in old Benin kingdom.

All their portuguese partners and Dutch partners and even British conquerors have told them their Oba is a lesser king to a Superior one in a foreign land.

If they like they should reject Ife. That does not save them from the fact that they are subordinate to another superior power here in the South, whether East o, North o, West o, South o. They remain a subordinate that must obtain authority of another monarch before they can coronate.

This is a fact!

Whether na Yoruba, Igala, Ibo...or even Nupe, all we know is Oba of Benin is a subordinate king.

In fact the group picture Prince Charles tool with traditional rulers gave hint.

Lagos State government used Funke Akindele to shine only to withdraw charges when it was the turn of a member of the political elite to be charged for the same offense. Rubbish!
Its not about hiring SANs. In fact, none of these defendants need a lawyer. This is a simple civil matter.

Samuk,
You cant keep mixing apples and oranges bunching unrelevant issues with ongoing discussion here.

This is about Benin and a Greater King to the East, called Ogane, to whom Oba of Benin is inferior.

Focus on that.

Here is where we are...

You have admitted that deBarros is correct in his account.

You have also preferred that this greater monarch be called PRIEST.

You agreed there is a town to EAST of Benin and is an EDO town.

We need to move forward from here and focused.

Now, you do know in those past centuries monarchs were called Priest-Kings. Correct?

DeBarros used Monarch, Prince (which you called Priest) and King...to ascribe authority to this Supreme leader.

So a Priest-King to the East of Bini had superiority over Oba of Benin. Oba must get permission from him for coronation.

You said this place was an Edo town. Name the town please.

Go back and read the source you quoted carefully, it says prince Ogane more than once. Did he mean to say priest of Ogane?

He referred to Ogane as prince more than once and he went on to say, he stays behind a veil and only shows his feet. Prince and king is not the same thing.

The court he referred to could be a shrine or an Oracle.

Yes, I do know a place east of Benin that possibly fits this description and it's not Ife. It's an Edo speaking town.

One of the symbols of this shrine is the cross.
Thats what this thread is about to find the foreign King greater than Oba of Benin.

So you agree there was indeed a Priest to the East greater than your Oba.

You said he is in Edo town. Name the town.

For reference.....
the most powerful monarch of these parts, who was called Ogané. Among the pagan chiefs of the territories of Beny he was held in as great veneration as is the Supreme Pontif with us. In accordance with a very ancient custom, the king of Beny, on ascending the throne, sends ambassadors to him with rich gifts to announce that by the decease of his predecessor he has succeeded to the kingdom of Beny, and to request confirmation.

Imagine selling yourself and your people as slaves, God forbid.

I think Benin is the only ethnic group in Nigeria that wasn't taken as slaves
You dont even know the history of Benin Where have you been?

Benin was selling slaves upto a point! They stopped selling slaves because they were running out of stock to use for ritual sacrifice.

The court continued to capture and keep Oruh as slaves and instead of selling they were used to appease Yoruba gods.

The Benin people of this generation could all come together to research and author a book into the true Benin/Ife relationship.

Those of us abroad that have access to various museums that host Benin artworks, should continue to study those artworks for what they represent and depict rather than seeing them as some decorative ornament of no significant purpose.

Those artworks were the photographs of their time.

See how you were able to match the artwork that depicts a messager with the people of Nupe/Igala from ther facial tribal mark and disproved it referring to an Ife messager as previously being claimed by the Yorubas.

Numerous Benin artworks could have also depicted various tribes across Nigeria of 15c, 16c 17c and 18 centuries.

We shouldn't just seat back and allow the Yorubas to claim they were the only tribes these artworks represent or depicted.

I am sure Yoruba people would have been depicted in Benin artworks also but we should be able to tell the difference between an artwork showing Yoruba people from Igala and people of old eastern Nigeria.
In fact, Thornton published a book to put forward a claim that Oba of Benin was subject of a King of Nupe/Igala.

Whichever direction you take Benin is accounted as a lesser King to a much greater King ....a foreigner that lives elsewhere.

You can counter Yoruba claim but you cannot escape from the fact that Oba derived authority from another ethnic. This is your burden for eternity!

Or have you not read texts that describes how Benin ruled over much of Yoruba lands? Yoruba kings paid homage and dues to Benin Kingdom..

I can show you in texts and if you don’t believe I can show you in pictures.

Difference between your supposed evidence and mine will be that any evidence you try to bring will be only one sentence and hearsay and the writer agrees it’s a myth. Mine on the other hand will be full written documentation and witnessed by people who wrote it.
No history has ever been written where Ooni is said to be subject of a greater king elsewhere. Never!

The portuguese partner of Benin de Barros said THERE IS A KING, CALLED OGENE WHO IS GREATER THAN THE OBA AND HIS PALACE IS EASTWARD OF BENIN.

This establishes that Oba is a lesser king to someone else who dictates power in Benin. This is clear.

This means Oba is not the greatest king in that region....there was another king greater than him.

Who was this Greater King?
