2). To work in close collaboration with all stakeholders to ensure that the value system entrenched in the Yoruba culture and nomenclature as OMOLUABI’ (Literarily translated as person of integrity, honour and dignity) is fostered as a basic rudiment for mutual understanding, mutual respect, love of the Yoruba heritage such that the true national interests and identity of the Yoruba Ethic Nationality are distinctly entrenched and sustained in Nigeria and elsewhere;

3). To encourage and support only attitude and behaviours of governments and other bodies and individuals everywhere that will have progressive impact on the basic and fundamental institutions of Yoruba Ethnic Nationality, to wit:-

(a) The political system, (b) The economic system, (c)The educational system (d) The family system (e) The Traditional and cultural system (including but not limited to Religion), (f) The mass media, and (j) The environmental and infrastructural system

4) To promote research and establish records on public policy on any and all issues/problem of public policies and programmes as well as prepare and disseminate/distribute information and statistics relating to the basic and fundamental institutions, personality types and cultures of the Yoruba that will promote the Yoruba Ethnic nationality as a guiding light to all ethnic nationalities in the search for a truly federal constitutional arrangement for Nigeria where all her citizens enjoy equality of opportunities in the unfettered pursuit of their happiness;

6) To apply for and acquire such concessions and acts of legislature in Nigeria or foreign country as may be advantageous for carrying out the objects of the Association.

7) To enter into any arrangements with any Government or other authority, supreme, municipal, local or otherwise, and to obtain from any such Government or authority all rights, concessions, and privileges which may seem conducive to the Association’s objects or any provisional order of the relevant Department(s) of government or authority, or any Act(s) of parliament for the purposes of the Association or any other Association(s).;

cool To reach out to other progressive unions of Yoruba including those in the Diaspora and other sympathetic nations in furtherance of the Aims and objectives of the Association

What collapsed this great effort?

Politics, of course, PDP politics. At inception we had requested all Yoruba state governors to send in two representatives, which they did, and everything was going on smoothly. We had drawn up the laws and regulations which were adopted and approved at a well attended mini-summit of the Association which held at the Oodua Hall, Cocoa house, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday, March 22, 2007. With the 2007 election, which somebody described as war was approaching, the state governors, all PDP, with the exception of Lagos state, withdrew their representatives. The party had obviously seen the handwriting on the wall and knew that theirs was already a lost cause in Yoruba land ahead the election. That was also the time the decision was taken, at the highest levels of government, to rig the elections, even though their victory would later turn pyrrhic.

Below is how a traumatised Yoruba Diasporan captured what befell AGBAJO on their withdrawal:

“General Akinrinade is, mercifully, one of the greatest assets the Yoruba nation has today, and very many of us recognise him as such. For instance, though he has never really made a strong bid to bring the Yoruba abroad into membership of Yoruba Agbaye, very many of us here attach a strong hope to Agbaye because Gen. Akinrinade leads it. We all think of him as someone who sincerely loves the Yoruba nation, and who can never sell out. In the interest of the Yoruba nation, Gen. Akinrinade apparently thought that he could rein in those Yoruba who have sold out to PDP and make them work with Agbaye. I don’t blame him; his intensions were good and noble, but these PDP hounds cannot be handled in that way. Their quest is to hold on to what they have already stolen, and they will associate with any credible Yoruba person or group in order to buy some legitimacy for themselves among Yoruba people. But they will have no abiding loyalty to the group or person they are associating with in the meantime; and as soon as they see in the horizon another person or group that seems to them to impart stronger legitimacy, they will move.”

I certainly cannot describe who General Akinrinade is, or what exactly those who ruined a promising Agbajo are, better than what my good friend did above. General Akinrinade remains the quintessential Omoluabi and, here is wishing him a happy and glorious 80th birthday.

Many happy returns, Sir.
Politics › Happy Birthday To Two Great Men. Prof. Akintoye Extols Yoruba. Long But Good Rea by MetaPhysical(op): 3:05pm On Oct 06, 2019
In the latest of his series of very seminal lectures, (The 1886 Peace Treaty and Imperative Lessons of the Unity of Yoruba Nation),the Yoruba Leader, Professor (Senator) Banji Akintoye, recently said as follows: ”As we gather here to celebrate, my humble thought is that we, Yoruba, should spend this day to rub minds together about some deeper ramifications of our nation’s unity. Sure, we are a very strongly united nation. In fact, I have said in some of my past lectures and speeches that hardly any nation in the world can claim to be more united than the Yoruba nation. We Yoruba are all very proud of our culture and our great accomplishments in civilisation. We believe that, among nations in the world, our nation is, and deserves, to be highly exalted because of the common worldview and the principles and ideals which we evolved in our history. Our religion is so superior in its overall message and its structure that it has become in the modern world the only Black African religion that ranks as a universal religion, one of the world’s leading religions, one of the most widespread across the world, and one of the fastest expanding religions throughout the world. Our nation is also owner of principles and ideals which command great respect in the world – principles and ideals such as our Omoluabi tenets, our deep respect for human life, our respect for individual peculiarities and choices, our generally democratic tendencies, our culture of religious accommodation and harmony, our deep sense of hospitality to strangers and foreigners, our unique expectation of dutiful, respectful and decent leadership and governance, our love of the beautiful and even elegant life, our unique dedication to societal progress and orderliness, and our general orientation towards mutual help and collaboration in the quest for the better life. This worldview, principles and ideals, have kept our whole nation strongly bonded throughout our history. Even though we have lived in many separate kingdoms for most of our history, our common worldview and our cherished principles and ideals have made us a highly noticeable nation among the nations of Africa and the world. They have also distinguished us from other peoples near and far. Even when we fought wars in our nation for nearly a hundred years in the nineteenth century, the norms that we regard as uniquely Yoruba norms, nevertheless strongly persisted.”For a people with the norms, and mores, culture and civilised ethos described above by one of the most respected historians the world over , one who has devoted the greater part of his entire life to the pursuit of historical scholarship and authored several books; his magnum opus being the 428 – page:‘A History Of The Yoruba People’, it should come as no surprise, whatever, that such a people must have amongst them some distinct specimen of humanity and leading lights in various disciplines, professions and callings. It is my distinct pleasure, today, to celebrate two of such titans of the Yoruba nation who, this past week, marked their birthdays.CHIEF OLADEJI FASUANChief Oladeji Fasuan, a retired, but by no means tired, economist, is a former top civil servant who had a hand in the planning, and establishment, of most of the public companies that gave the Western Region its pride of place as Nigeria’s economic front runner in the first, and second republics. He would, however, most probably be remembered as the pivot of that incredible team that mid-wifed Ekiti State at a time it was considered least feasible. A distinguished public servant, both at the national, and sub national levels, Chief Fasuan is a Member of the Order of the Niger (MON), and the Asiwaju of Afao-Ekiti.He turned 88 on 1 October, 2019. Happy birthday, Sir. Many happy returns.Paired with Chief Fasuan on this glorious occasion is the OKANLOMO of the Yoruba nation, the one and only, Lt. General Ipoola Alani Akinrinade, CFR FSS, officer and gentleman, and the quintessential OMOLUABI of our race, about who it will take pages and pages of this newspaper, not just a column, qua column, to begin to do justice to what he represents to both our country, Nigeria and the Yoruba Nation, in particular. A special creation of the Almighty with his winsome looks, General Akinrinade is decent, humble and completely without airs. So much has been written about the general in the past one week that I would rather not carry coal to Newcastle. I would, instead, discuss as much as space would permit, my long, and very close, relationship with the “baffday boy”, especially on a project that was conceptualised towards achieving the greatest good for the Yoruba nation. That project, saw him, as Chairman, adroitly demonstrate his superb, and well known etiquette, and leadership qualities, as many of the members, like the late Chiefs Bayo Akinnola and Bola Adedipe, (both representing Ondo State) and many others, were much older than him.General Akinrinade can be very intense. He devoted not only quality time, but did not spare his purse, in the arduous, and absolutely enervating business of trying to establish AGBAJO YORUBA AGBAYE which went on for not less than three years at a particularly critical time in the Yoruba trajectory, when a Nigerian president, of Yoruba extraction, was busy doing his damnest to humiliate the Yoruba nation, splitting down the middle, Afenifere, the numero uno Pan Yoruba organisation.Since then, Afenifere has never been the same. When the history of that time is written, due mention would be made of the men and women who toiled, day and night in this regard, even once setting up a Rapid Response team, under the lead of Professor Jide Osuntokun (yours truly was a member), primarily to draw ‘our president’s’ attention to the fact that nothing was coming the Yoruba way even as billions of irrigation projects, were being approved for the north at every federal executive meeting, with Muktar Shagari as the Water Resources Minister. The following are the aims and objectives of Agbajo.

1). To promote appropriate and sustainable policies and programmes to salvage, defend and fortify an authentic and self-determined Yoruba Ethnic Nationality within the Federal Republic of Nigeria and elsewhere.

“WIYC appeal to Ndigbo to forgive Peter Obi, who’s linked indirectly to the electoral losses of PDP in 2015 and 2019, when he singlehandedly couldn’t galvanise Igbo support for Jonathan and Atiku on a clearly seen victory which Igbos was out to give to both candidates.”
Now, this is why I love following Igbo matter. If you love to be amused and get a good belly-rumbling laughter you must subscribe to Igbo news. grin

I have never seen a more natural jesters.

Look at above quote. My interpretation of it is below. grin grin

Interpretation -
Peter Obi did not have "direct influence" of PDP's electoral losses in 2015 and 2019 where he failed to deliver winning support to a victory Igbo had forecasted would happen.

Here is the twist....
Millions of Igbo were sure Jonathan would win 2015, and in 2019 that Atiku would win....but one man named Peter Obi who has no direct influence on the losses of both candidates derailed Igbo guarantees for victory.

grin grin grin. ....and this Mazi guy is serious o.

One guy whose influence is inconsequ ential destroyed hopes of millions of Igbos who are lined up to celebrate PDP victory.

The World Igbo Youth Congress narrated on Saturday it took a careful analysis of the Igbos misfortunes in the 2015 and 2019 general elections and has observed that Peter Obi contributed in no small part to the recorded failures.

This was made known in a press statement made available to the media by its President General, Mazi Alex Okemiri.

That guy you posted up there was the finest product of your Nigerian army. What he did for his people is beyond your comprehension because you came from a lineage of people known to surrender without firing a single shot.

Leaving Biafra decked in his full military regalia with a final salute from his generals enroute ivory coast was the best closure he could give to Biafrans who after 3 years has come to regard him as a symbol of freedom.

I still shudder to think what abomination the useless Hausa Fulanis would have done to him. The torture would be recorded and forever used to psychologically taunt Igbos.

The fact that the lion was well and alive in Ivory Coast ensured that the Nigeria government under Gowon maintained some level of 'good boy' attitude after the uncivil war.

No Nigerian soldier deserved to capture the lion alive because they were all cowards who were more interested in maiming, raping and displacing civilian poulation than actually facing their foes. grin

Resistance
The British-Igbo War That Lasted For 31 years – The Ekumeku Resistance
The British-Igbo War That Lasted For 31 years - The Ekumeku Movement

The resolutions of the Berlin conference of 1884-1885, gave European nations the rights to lay claim to lands and resources in Africa.
Britain, who had engaged in the trade with coastal cities before and during the 19th century, made bold their intentions to covet resources and rule over indigenous nations all over Africa.
They came with guns and preachers. Many Africans tribes resisted the British invaders, and this led to protracted wars. Many African tribes put up a great fight against the superior firepower of the suppressive British.
One of such tribes are the Igbo people of ancient Biafra, who are now one of the three major tribes in Nigeria.
The Ekumeku Movement was the name of Igbo army, that held the British at bay and fought them for 31 years.
The Ekumeku movement consisted of a great number of attacks and uprising by the Anioma people of the land, against the British, from 1893-1914.
The Ekumeku warriors were bound by a secret oath, and meticulously utilized guerrilla tactics to attack the British Royal company, who were determined to penetrate Igbo land. The Ekumeku warriors were drawn from thousands of Anioma youth from all parts of Anioma land.
As the war rages on, the Ekumeku warriors defended their rights tom live peacefully without foreign interjection, while the British used heavy armaments. They destroyed homes, farms, and roads, by bombardment.
The British invaded Ndoni in 1870 and bombarded Onicha-Ado (Onicha) on November 2nd, 1897, from River Niger. This set the tempo for the rest of the war. The Royal Niger Company was commanded by Major Festing. They engaged the Anioma people of Ibusa in 1898.
The battle was so severe in 0wa/Okwunzu, in 1094, that the commander W.E.B Crawford requested for more arms from the British headquarters to crush the Western Anioma communities. The people of Owa again in 1906 engaged the British in a gruesome battle that consumed the life of the British commander S. O. Crewe.
Ogwashi-Ukwu faced the British on the 2nd of November 1909 and dealt a heavy blow to the British, who sustained many casualties, with the death of H. C. Chapman.

The Ekumeku became a formidable force in Igbo land and was a great source of nationalism for the Anioma people. It also served as a uniting cord that held together, various towns, who were independent of each other in the past. The Igbo were a republican people and each town had a leadership that was drawn from its oldest of men and families.
The war would have lasted longer, and possibly ended in a British defeat, if the Anioma people had equivalent firepower, and had more allies from other great Igbo kingdoms and towns. But even at that point, other tribes were facing the British on their own.

After almost 20 years of battle, decided to strike with great force. And in December of 1902, they sent a powerful expedition to Anioma kingdom. A great number of towns were destroyed. Civilians and soldiers alike were killed. And their leaders were arrested and imprisoned.

After this, the British were sure that they had suppressed the Ekumeku military cult, and that victory was theirs. The British officers boasted: “the Ekumeku and other secret societies have been completely broken.”

To their greatest surprise, two years later, in 1904, the fearless Ekumeku rose again. The Igbo are proud and egalitarian people. They don’t go down that easily.
When the Ekumeku started their renewed campaign, they changed tactics, and abandoned the guerrilla warfare style of 1989, for the individual defense of each town.

The last battle began in 1909. There was a succession dispute in Ogwashi-ukwu, and the British tried to remove the rightful king and enthrone someone else. One of the heirs to the throne, Nzekwe, the son of the last Obi, sensed the plot of the British and went to war with them to fight for his inheritance.
On November 2nd, 1909, the British sent an expedition to Ogwashi-ukwu to capture him, but they failed. No amount of firepower at that point could defeat or quench the sympathy and dedication of the people towards the Ekumeku. In Asaba, the sympathy for the Ekumeku was so high that the people had the disposition to throw off the already British government in certain parts.

At the time, the acting Lieutenant-governor of the Southern provinces sent an agitated telegram to Lagos. It read: “Whole country is above are… is the state of rebellion.”
After this, reinforcements were sent from Lokoja, for another confrontation at Akegbe. The war raged on, till 1914, when the Ekumeku movement was defeated. That was the same year, the Northern and Southern protectorates of Nigeria were joined as one country.

Some of the heroes of that 31-year war included Dunwku Isus of Onicha-Olona, Nwabuzo Iyogolo of Ogwashi-Ukwu, Awuno Ugbo, Obi of Akumazi, Aggbambu Oshue of Igbuzo, the Idabor of Issele-Ukwu, Ochei Aghaeze of Onicha-olona, Abuzu of Idumuje-Unor, Idegwu Otokpoike of Ubulu-Ukwu. These men are remembered in Anioma land till date.

The Ekumeku war remains one of most bravely fought wars and campaign against British rule and plundering. It later inspired other rebellions around Africa, such as the Mau Mau of Kenya.

The Ekumeku have long been defeated, and that kingdom is now part of the greater Igbo land, in today’s Nigeria. But no matter how far we travel in time, history always remembers that a brave tribe defended their ancestry, heritage, and legacy against the tyranny of Wilberforce.

Till date, in Nigeria, the Igbo remains one of the few tribes that still resist British rule over them and their resources. It can be said that these sentiments were at play when the British supplied weapons to the Northern and Western part of Nigeria to fight the Igbo between 1967-1970.

Slow down, this is a federal project and the wife of the president played a critical role regarding this project and her main pet project is Maternal and Child SDG issues.

Naming the center after the first lady is a humble display of appreciation and omoluabi spirit, besides, we name our own projects after our people in Lagos like Ayinke House which is also known as the Institute of Maternal and Child Health in the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) was named after.

We named a famous park in Lagos after Ndubuisi Kanu.

We named a garden and erected a bust after Samuel Okwaraji who died on the soccer field while representing Nigeria, even Fashola, built a house for his mother in his hometown, Umudioka, Imo State when his own state and his people abandoned and neglected his family.

Names assigned to FG projects is the least of our concern, all we care about is progress and development.
True word, but nna come...same thing happened now with Christian Chuckwu. They abandoned him in East. The man don suffer...but soon as Otedola stepped in with promise to bear full cost we see everybody in Anambra becoming philantropist.

Then there are the house girls and house boys. The trade operates on the borderline of human trafficking. Lagos is busy. Parents work far from home. And the distance is made more complicated by endemic devilish traffic snarls. The homes need house girls. The south south and south east were the preferred sources. But the republic of Benin has joined the competition.
Why would i hire SE as house-anything? When i no craze!

You go work come back your children don dissapear and money don exchange hand. Next thing you see chinekwe don buy range rover.

Please na. I need to know. Help a friend. grin grin
Who did Royal Niger Company bought Igbo land from. It's a simple enough question. Ok you want to ask Google, I understand. I will wait. grin
Igala has always been your master. They sold you to Ijaw. Ijaw turned around sold you to whitey.

RNC did not need to purchase the land. They occupied it. They in turn sold you to British colonial government. British colonial and Yoruba used cathechism to open your eyes to civilization.

Igbos already have a bright future. They are far too successful. Is that not what the issue has been all along?

Iwuanyanwu? The man made pregnant by your corrupt system? The Abuja contractor is talking and you are listening to him. Very soon Chris Uba will come to Lagos and prostrate to you lot. Any thing to make you happy.

The tide has changed my friend. You wrote a name on a tag and pegged it on igbos post civil war. Our parents coming from the trauma of the civil war couldn't be bothered to reply any of your stupidity. Theirs was to build a new society. Acquire wealth and give their children good education. Well they've succeded.

The new generation of Igbos don't bear the burden of the civil war. They are ready to chart a new course for themselves. Abuja contractors masquerading as leaders do not dictate to us. Threats from slow pokes do not faze us. Our collective resolve is simple, THE SUN MUST RISE AGAIN!

Sanwo Olu is a disgrace!

Funmilayo Kuti
Moremi
Iyalode Efunsetan
Many many more Yoruba women to name hospital after.

Why Aisha Buhari?? How is she a part of motherhood for people of Lagos?

This act is foolish!
