why must it always be a Yoruba woman first lady and yet we keep fighting and even killing for the sake of one Nigeria? Is that not hypocrisy?

Beautiful write up. The history of Lagos is vast.

My problem with these historical facts is that why isn’t it taught in schools? Not only history of Lagos but Nigeria as a whole. I got to find out recently that history is no longer taught in schools? This is sad
Lagos had a watershed moment in 1850 and it completely changed dynamics for everyone - indigeneous and visitor alike. No one has published a work documenting the totality of what occurred and the cost of it to the land and its trade partners across the Atlantic.

We have a huge gap because prior to English events in Lagos were documented using Ajami and Portuguese.....and we do not have either now. So we lost a chunk of history of Lagos prior to 1850.

Im attempting my best to sew it altogether based on what I have found and retained.

You have a very valid point and I don't for once doubt your sincere concern for the people of Ondo, Yoruba at large and our sovereign country.
Realistically, galvanizing votes along this line is a task insurmountable for this forthcoming election due to reasons such as

1. Incumbency factor : The ruling party which also hold ace at the federal are caught in this quagmire and risk loosing the coveted seat.

2. The 1st alternative option (PDP) that could have been resorted to have been enmeshed in same situation.

3. A third force must have set the ground running for a long period just like Otoge in Kwara (won in all local governments) which began more than a year before the election day in order to come out glaringly victorious and forestall any internal or external rigging plot.

The issue at hand is like the proverbial bone which got stuck in the neck. It must be carefully dealt with, in tactical patience. After its ease, the youth can be strategically sensitized on its danger, how it has affected us and the reason to never allow such around the corridor of power.

Our option FROM NOW ON, is to waylay both parties primary election before 2024 having continuously resonated the importance of our submissions, and how it is taking a toll on the growth and development of our ethnicity to present unmixed candidates. sad
Oga, you don win! grin

I reason with your submission and will let it go.

I will open a new campaign after Ondo election and make noise for our women to be recognized.

It is disheartening and cruel the way outcome of state elections has displaced them in preference for non origins. What Yorubamen will not tolerate we nonchallantly and consciously allow and encourage to go unchecked in the case of our women.

I am deeply pained and I weep inside for our women!

The reason why there is uproar in Ondo is majorly because of the present first lady's overbearing interference in the administration of her husband. However, it won't be same in all situations.

Real men don't give room for such, and at that, Rotimi Akerodolu had below pass mark in separating his family affairs from the state's political administration. At a point in time, he wanted to appoint his son, Babajide as the Chief of Staff which was met with a stiff resistance. Akeredolu has not neccessarily failed his people in overall governance.

The politics of inclusiveness brought us where we are but it is very germane to set a boundary line for those who always choose to deride our ethnic background.

A call for a Yoruba first lady might not go through now, but we can only put much pressure on our government to put Yoruba agenda first in all representations within the region.
If Abba Kyari had not passed on when he did we may never have known much of what went on in govt and when it came out in the open to shock many of us. The outpouring of testimonies on mismanagement in Ondo is instructive. Human nature is unchangeable, however long the depth of acclimatization and assimilation. In simple terms, genetic and ancestral emotions buried within the spirit have a much effect on our responses to situations in the external. We cannot continue to hope and get same result at output....we must take purposeful action and direct our path forward. That path forward must be a solid partnership between Yorubaman and Yorubawoman to salvage the damages done.

No other state in Yorubaland has been tested, harrassed and tested as much Ondo has been with Fulani Herdsmen issues. Falae could have been killed. Mrs Olakunrin (Fasoranti's daughter) was killed. An independent contractor returning from Ondo to Abuja encountered herdsmen with ID card - Ondo Chapter of Miyetti Allah Vigilante. Fulani herdsmen camped in a territory and put up red flag to signal it as their colony.

Aren't we ashamed? These atrocities are possible because the man in State House is not getting backbone assurance on what to do. Aides and assistants to Governor should be the ones in mixed marriages, not State Governor. Where a State Governor has a non-Yoruba wife, it should not be a continuous stream.

Fulani is assaulting Ondo, Ibo is embarassing the govt and the next best contender is also bringing in a SS. Why not just open Ondo governorship contest to all Nigerians?

But you see this goes with what I said earlier.....we are protecting the Yorubaman position and denying the Yorubawoman her entitlement.

If Yorubawoman cannot be First Lady then start throwing the governorship in that state open to Ibomen, Fulanimen, SSmen to contest. What do you think?

I managed to read the whole piece twice and I was able to come across some new facts:
*Lagos was already a booming and developed area before British came around
*Portuguese were doing business without meddling so much in internal politics of the locals
*British are like agents of disruption. they came around and scuttled the existing political/traditional structure and turn the locals against each other.
*the op referred to traditional ruler as eleko. How come he now bears oba today?
Good question.

Yoruba have a unique identifier for Kingship and that's Oba. Each Oba has a domain. He rules over the domain.

Alaafin - Oba Lamidi Adeyemi
Oluwo - Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi
Elegushi - Oba Saheed Kushenla
Eleko - Oba Rilwan Akiolu.

There used to be a thread on lagos property owners compiled from lagos state government data.

The thread indeed showed that contrary to popular myth the Yorubas owned about 75% of landed properties in Lagos.

I wish I can lay hands on the thread.
Most of the properties on Marina, are either private or state owned. Very few are owned by FG.

There is a building right where Broad Street butts in to Ring Road just under the shadow of Elephant House, it was a landmark for a long time. It was owned by Dr. JK Randle. He was already a medical doctor by 1889. That building had history.

He was married to Victoria Davies , the daughter of James Labulo Davies and Sarah Aina Bonetta.

Check the image below, it reads - To Victoria Davies, from her Godmother, Victoria, Queen of Great Britain & Ireland. 1863.

Below is also First Bank Hq Bldng on Marina, formerly Standard Bank, formerly Bank of West Africa. The building is owned by Lagos State Govt.

How many we go list...? grin

Those calling Lagos a no man's land are disoriented class, misguided! We shall do a "show & tell" to demonstrate ownership of Lagos.

I know there was a special committee setup by Ambode to review the jurisdiction disagreement between FG and LSG over disputed lands, buildings and quarters in Lagos.

Here is a caption from a report on the dispute.

The Legal Complexities
The challenge to the federal government assets, the ownership of some of the land on which they occupy is contested. The Special Committee that was appointed by Governor Ambode also identified, majority of the federal government properties are situated on land that is vested in Lagos State. Officials in the Lagos State Government argue, When Lagos became a Crown Colony, the title to the whole Lagos Island became vested in the Lagos State that also include Ikoyi, Osborne Foreshore, Banana Island, Festac Town which some of the federal government buildings occupy.

The Lagos State claims title to land such as that host the International Trade Fair Complex (now being used as a market), as Lagos State acquired the land was acquired on behalf of the federal government which promised to pay compensation which is outstanding. This entails, the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) is a tenant of the Lagos State Government.

From what Ive seen, if true that Eno Jegede is not Yoruba, both the APC and PDP candidates in Ondo are ineligible to satisfy a Yoruba Woman becoming First Lady. They should be skipped and victory should go to next most eligible candidate.

On the issue of General election and our opportunity for victory. What I hear is that we must preserve the Yorubaman's eligibility and chance of victory at national level by demonstrating our patriotism ahead of 2023.

Does not the Yorubawoman equally deserving of our patriotism in Ondo?

I believe Yoruba will troop out for our son in 2023, regardless of what party is in the respective state houses at that time.

The bigger picture, Akeredolu should win that state so that he can hold it down for the Yoruba presidential candidate of 2023.

As regard the marriage, how else would you assimilate the foreigners in Yorubaland? We have to marry these people, but am sure their children would be Yorubanized, so it is still a win for the Yoruba people and culture.
Every society in civilized world practices diversity but self-preserves its future and interest inspite of the drive for inclusion. We cannot be different because we want to impress that we are educated and advanced. Those far advanced than us in education do not tolerate half the bombastics we absorb. Yoruba is the proverbial righteous man instructed in Bible to turn the other cheek and receive a second slap after the first.

No society in modern world turns second cheek for next slap! Let's tidy up and get Yoruba Woman into the First Lady Office in October.
