Politics › Modelling - Using Gdp, Igr, Poverty Index Charts To Whip Governors. by MetaPhysical(op): 6:09pm On Aug 03, 2020 |
I have played with certain words here in Nairaland to see what response and ripple it will generate. How do people psyche respond to words such as "efficiency" and "deficiency"? Both are different sides of the same coin but why is their effect in outcomes vastly different? I will not use this thread to explain or detail the psychological dance between values in polar opposites. What I want to discuss here is how we can consciously evolve our democracy and society by creating models around the paradox to "target" inefficiencies at State level and expose State Governors, across the regions, to a much tighter public scrutiny and improvements. When the central bank, national bureau of statistics, budgetit, nairametrics, and many other reporting bodies release their modeled data with rankings and performance scores those results speak to us and show a certain value index. They contain more than what we see. There are other values not explicitly publicized but nonetheless is present in those numbers and charts and they are valid pictures of other aspects of the economy and the political inputs. A State Governor has tremendous influence and input to economy and market performance within his political boundary. An IGR report, a GDP report, a Poverty Index report.....these reports can reveal the extent to which a State Governor has been negligent in his role and duties. They can act as scorecard ...in fact, they are indeed....scorecards to grade State Governors and give them a Pass or Fail result. My interest here is that we can turn around the animosities that evolve when these reports are released from combating at regional and ethnic level to true scrutiny and begin to question our Governors and their failure to honor their end of the social contract. For instance, the last series of performance charts have shown that Lagos State remain at top and some States remain consistently at bottom. Few States swing back and forth. The best improved state is Kwara. Kwara has gained significant climb over two years period. So if I were to give a scorecard ranking on Executive performance, Governor Abdulrahman will top Governor Sanwo-Olu as most improved and responsive. Sanwo-Olu will remain the overall leader in deliverables and wealth-redistribution. There is really no point to look at a GDP report or an IGR report or Poverty Index report and not be able to translate the numbers into applications that produce meaningful input on the streets. What's the use of a high IGR if markets and people are not feeling the economic impact? The economic impact occurs when opportunities for income redistribution is available, accessible (with little cost) and yields result. This is separate from individual capacity to produce and earn useful gain. The previous statement is "opportunity" - an outlet provided by government or private sector to lower lack and deprivation; the second statement is "capacity" - an individual action that grabs an opportunity and channel it for self improvement. So my people in Nairaland, let's WOKE. When charts come out let's converge and go by each state to explore and scrutinize how the results in the chart compares with the State Governor's policies and efforts to put meaningful and gainful income into hands of people on the streets of his State. We should turn the economic charts to political whip to demand action at Executive level. Cheers! |

U were developed by FG for 72 years ....yet it's not dubia .....and u still have mouth to talk What of your state I opened a thread specifically to address your point here. Was Lagos developed by FG.....or Lagos developed FG? Im sure you saw it....why have you not gone in there and list how FG developed Lagos? You are doing a disservice to every person who is waiting to hear your position on the development and ownership of Lagos. Lagos money come from formal and informal sector (what you call agbero money). We put it to use supporting your destitute brothers in Lagos. Dubai deports its destitutes and is able to lessen pressure on its facilities and infrastructures. Lagos cannot. We have designs and blueprints of things to do to really beautify Lagos even more but our leaders refuse to implement them because the uncivilized guests among us will ruin them. Se you get? |

Yujin: Lol. You're as funny as hell. However, tribalism is not good. What I see is a people demanding for accountability from their sons... I wonder how you interpreted it into hunger problems. You can see other issues they highlighted to the governor. You can see the passion in their quest. Igbos naturally hold their leaders/representatives accountable. It's from smaller issues like this that puts those leaders on their toes. They've be given ultimatum... We shall their response in a month's time. NB: Tribalism has finished you. Stop misrepresenting the governor of Abia state. Im glad you find it funny. Look, I love people that hold their leaders accountable. Did you read the whole article? They did not investigate and clarify positions. The bags of rice is at police station according to Ezike. He believes he was harrassed injustifiably. Thats different from seeking accountability. We see the trait and know it to be common in Ibo. A penchant to accuse wrong person of wrongdoing before understanding the full story. The same way these autonomous villagers concluded here that the rice was misappropriated, Ibo has concluded that the bullion vans at Tinubu's on election day were stolen money from public treasury. My brother, would you like eba and egusi as well? Ikpeazu is very generous. |
I feel your pain, your sorrow it end here that the fact you can't change, Anambra is third position after Lagos and Rivers among six state that control 90% cash in Nigeria, ranked second in numbers of commercial and Micro Finance bank after Lagos, doing credibly well in services, Agriculture and industrial sector, host the highest numbers of markets in Nigeria with one of it markets largest in West Africa, yet no Airport or Sea port, the economy largely control by indigenes Watch out for Anambra state economy when it international Cargo Airport which is aggressively going on is completed next year, Onitsha port fully activated, and other Maga projects ICC, AMC etc and the second Niger bridge which will add great to Anambra economy
I didnt know there is ranking for states that control cash in Nigeria. Any commercial and microfinance bank registered by CAC has capacity to trade anywhere in the country.....and because of Govt incentives they tend to swarm emerging markets. The only reason you will have them in abundance in Lagos is because that state is hub for commerce. In SE, Anambra is not the hub of commerce, Aba is. In fact, I want to see your ranking tables, with the source. NGPatriot, did you know that Nigeria has a ranking for which state holds 90% cash? |

mrvitalis: I don't really get you people....no Niger Delta states gets upto 1 billion dollars in allocation every year
nddc gets less than 1 billion a year as allocation
It's far more expensive to construct roads in Niger Delta than most place in Nigeria ....sometimes 5 more than places like abuja roads ....
Niger Delta have one of the most even distribution of development in Nigeria ....we know they lot and steal but they are not different from other leaders in Nigeria
Niger Delta generate over 15 billion dollars a year and gets less than 4 billion a year ...that's absolutely unfair ....we need to give them their oil money so they can hold themselves accountable
U don't steal from someone because he mismanaged his money ...all this are just to kill the call for restructuring
Most governors in South south are working better than any other region in Nigeria Please clarify the bold. What do you call "working better" |

bigwig071: History before civilization. The story of Igbo slaves Long time ago, in the Month of May 1803 75 igbo slaves from the eastern part of Nigeria were captured by the British, remember that the major means of transportation back then was water, so the captors of the Igbo slaves were sailing back to sell the slaves to their masters, the 75 Igbo slaves were chained inside the ship half way into the journey the slaves revolted and took control of the ship, the 75 slaves grounded the ship Dunbar Creek, St Simon island, Glynn Country Georgia.
Instead of submitting to slavery they drowned their captors and started marching in to the water holding hands and singing a native igbo song, while drowning their selves.
Igbos landing. This historical moment is called the "Igbo landing " and it will be forever remembered as the first freedom match in the history of America. Leave a comment below, like and share with any igbo person you know. Thank you for reading. Bigwig, wow! Is your wig blocking your vision? How do people chained inside ship revolt and seize ship in middle of ocean? I think that film Amistad, got you guys incensed and revved up to come up with all kind of scenarios for slaves that if indeed happened would have ended in heavy massacre of the captives. Slave revolts happened on lands. If it happened in boats there is no record of one that was successful or that ended in a take over. Lift up your wig so you can see what you type. God bless! |

Someone like Ibori who was convicted by court and served prison time should get a permanent restraint prohibiting from bidding for any government contract or getting awarded one. He should not qualify to ever run for a public office or have relationship with any profit-earning venture in govt at any level. ....if Niger Delta people are serious about becoming a Dubai, that is. |

Will Niger Delta look like Dubai if the money was properly managed?
I do not doubt it. I will add, Niger Delta will look far better. I say it because Niger Delta has natural water and rich vegetation. The beauty of Dubai is in the waters....most of which is artificial beaches and man made lakes.
So why is the money not well managed by the Delta people? |

then how trade /commerce strive in the state, makes it viable.
now compare with your state,! Human capital development is manpower training and skills acquisition. There is no report to give us a ranking of how Anambra could be next behind Lagos. However, there is no denying that Aba beats Anamra when it comes to skills and resourcefullness. It shows in their production output. On trade and commerce, which market in Anambra at prime scale comparable to Ariaria? None! So how can Amabra be ahead of Aba in market in trade and commerce? On the comparison with my state.....we beat Nigeria, the oga on top......not to talk of little Anambra. |

Tiger was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1991. I laugh at your stupidity. The first richest and wealthiest man in Nigeria was Dim Odimegwu Ojukwu’s father Sir Louis Ojukwu – the richest Nigerian at that time. The first Nigerian to own a Rolls Royce.
Talk about movie production
The beginnings of the video film market in Nigeria is traced back to the 1980s when television productions thrived.
Many of the television productions often found their ways into VHS, leading to the development of a small scale informal video trade. This method was adopted and built on by producers and distributors at Alaba market to reinvent the film industry which was at the time facing a major decline. The first film produced on video in Nigeria is 1988's Soso Meji, produced by Ade Ajiboye. Subsequently, Alade Aromire produced Ekun (1989) on video. However, the boom experienced in this era is generally believed to have been kick started by Kenneth Nnebue's Living in Bondage (1992)

At age 10, senior Da Rocha who was from the Yoruba sub-group Ilesha was captured and sold into slavery in Brazil in 1840. After gaining his freedom, Esan would return to Nigeria in 1871 when most of the freed slaves in Brazil traced their roots back to the Yoruba tribe Ilesha.
“He was very rich – he was a millionaire in those days and very generous. The elite in those days sent their dirty clothes to Britain for laundry. The Da Rochas, Johnsons, Dohertys and the Olowus, were foremost wealthy people. They didn’t wash their clothes in Nigeria. They sent them abroad for laundry. Some of them had about five dozens shirts, five dozens vests, five dozens pants, and everything they could afford.”
