AT the summit, the largest gathering of Yoruba people from the six south-west states, Kwara and Kogi states, and attended by Yoruba leaders, governors, parliamentarians ,Yoruba social cultural groups, professional bodies, market leaders , youth groups and friends of the Yorubanation, the following took place. After exhaustive deliberations, the Summit recalled with nostalgia, the great strides made by the Yoruba nation in the years of self-government up until the abrogation of the federal constitution in 1966 as evident in mass literacy, novel infrastructural strides and giant leaps in all spheres of human development. Summit noted that the crisis of over-centralization has led to mass misery across the country with poverty levels at 72%, unemployment rate at 65% with internal immigration and internal displacement, security threat in form of Boko Haram, herdsmen and organized crime, continuing unabated. Summit was convinced that Nigeria is careering dangerously to the edge of the slope except urgent steps are taken to restructure her from a unitary constitution to a federal constitution as negotiated by our founding fathers at independence in 1960. It then resolved as follows: 1. That Yoruba insists that Nigeria must return to a proper federation as obtained in the 1960 and 1963 constitutions. This has been our position since the 1950 Ibadan conference and subsequent developments in Nigeria over the past fifty years reinforce our conviction. 2. That Yoruba are clear that restructuring does not mean anything more than the fact that a multi-ethnic country like Nigeria can only know real peace and development if it is run ONLY along federal lines. 3. That the greatest imperative of restructuring Nigeria is to move it from a rent-seeking and money sharing anti-development economy to one of productivity by ensuring that the federating units are free to own and develop their resources. They should pay agreed sums to the federation purse to implement central services. 4. That the federating units, by whatever name called – states, zones or regions, must themselves be governed by written constitution to curb impunity at all levels. 5.That Nigeria shall be a federation comprising six regions and the federal capital Territory, Abuja. 6. The Federal Government shall make laws and have powers only in relation to items specified on the legislative list contained in the constitution of the Federation. 7. The Regions shall in turn be composed as states. 8. Each Regions shall have its own constitution containing enumerated exclusive and concurrent legislative lists regarding matters upon which the regions and the states may act or legislate. 9. Contiguous territories, ethnic nationalities or settlement shall be at liberty through a plebiscite, to elect to be part of any contiguous region other than the region in which the current geo-political zone or state boundaries places them. 10. States as presently comprised in the geo-political zones into which they fall, which shall become regions, shall continue to exercise the executive, legislative and judicial functions currently exercised at that level of government. 11. The States within a region shall determine the items on the legislative lists in the Regional constitution for the purpose of good governance and the administration and provision of common inter-state social, economic and infrastructural requirements. Residual powers shall be vested in the states 12. The power to create states shall be within the exclusive powers of the region which shall be obliged to create a state provided a plebiscite is conducted, following a request by an agreed percentage of the residents of the ethnic nationality within a state. The procedure for conducting a plebiscite and the percentage of any ethnic nationality shall be captured in the regional constitution. 13. The power to create local governments and assign functions to them shall be vested in the states. 14. States shall be entitled to manage all resources found within their boundaries and the revenue accruing therefrom. The issue of the entitlement of littoral states to offshore resources and the extension of such rights from the continental shelf and rights accruing to the federal government shall be determined by the national assembly. 15. The sharing ration of all revenues raised by means of taxation shall be 50% to the states, 35% to the regional government and 15% to the government of the federation. 16. For a period of 10 years from the commencement of the operation of the new constitution (or such other agreed period to be enshrined in the federal constitution) there shall be a special fund for the development of all minerals in the country. The Government of the federation shall raise this sum by way of additional taxation on resources at a rate to be agreed by the National Assembly. The National Assembly shall set up a body to manage the funds with equal representation of nominees from each of the Regional governments and shall also set out and specify the guidelines for the administration of the funds exclusively for this purpose. The president of the Federation shall appoint a chairperson for the entity so formed. That these agreed positions of the Yoruba taken today shall form the basis of negotiations with our partners in the Nigerian project for a United Nigeria based on Justice, peace and fair play. Aare Afe Babalola SAN (Summit Chairman) Dr. Kunle Olajide (Chairman Planning Committee). ---------------------------------------------- It only remains for me to say that this column has been returning to issues concerning the North these past few weeks because it is our highly regarded President Muhammadu Buhari who, a few years ago, told us that we have no other country besides Nigeria. Many, like me, are perturbed at how the North, a land, not figuratively, but should, indeed, be flowing with milk and honey, given its enormous God- given endowments, has unfortunately become the bane of Nigeria. This is the situation whether you are talking of the millions of school age children roaming the streets – even in expelling the Almajiris who did not ask to be born, not many state governors have undertaken to have them absorbed in their primary schools. The same goes for internal security all over the country with Northern elements mostly compromising it everywhere, with the result that life in Nigeria has become short, and brutish. Nor must one even talk of the billions, in all currencies, that Nigeria burns daily on Boko Haram and fighting bandits whose daily activities will make you pity El Rufai, the highly focussed Kaduna state governor, all because, in the North, education has been traditionally denied the children of the poor. Now we are all paying back in a horrendous loss of lives besides the huge expenses devoted to security. While at that, let me say I am extremely proud of Governor El Rufai who felt no shame, whatsoever, in publicly declaring that he earnestly, and copiously, copied a lot of the developmental strides of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola when he was governor of Osun state (Osun state was ranked top among the 36 states of the country in a survey titled “Development Performance ranking Of Nigerian states and Monitoring of African Countries” in January, 2019). It must agitate any person of conscience when one observes that despite the amount of money going to the North, it still contributes the highest percentage of Nigerian poverty. One must, therefore, not only write about it, but must specifically plead with Northern leaders, the intelligentsia inclusive, to assiduously work towards changing the existing narrative. Obviously, one of the ways to do this is through restructuring when the North can then turn its massive land area to a huge farming extravaganza, open up its mines which contain the world’s rarest, and much desired minerals, turn its massive Obasanjo-era dams, and other irrigation projects, into massive ranches and see meat processing industries literally grow out of the soil to see the North become the big meat processing and exporting part of the country. The North is so endowed that the covid -19 pandemic, with its lockdowns, even where it does not apply to agricultural products, has resulted in scarcity of many food items in the South, leading to an increase in prices. It is time the North, like every other part of the country, takes the bull by the horns and invest in our natural endowments especially now that oil has crumbled, sometimes trading negatively at the New York Stock Exchange. Without a doubt, restructuring now looks like the only way out for Nigeria. We must banish all fears and President Buhari must take that leap of faith to rescue a country he, no doubt, loves dearly, and had even wept for. https://www.google.com/amp/s/thenationonlineng.net/the-communique-of-the-yoruba-summit-held-in-ibadan-on-7th-september-2017/amp/ |

TAO12:Even Igala fought a war and sacked the palace. The Igala warriors took back a trophy that the Attah wears till today to prove his superiority. The iyoba mask on Attah is the original. Not as fanciful and ornamented as the copies found all over the world today. The second war, Igala was camped at the frontier and Edo quickly sent fresh virgins to the Igala camp for appeasement. They cannot deny it that Ogedengbe raided Benin, otlr that Igala raided Benin, much as they would love to. Britain was the last to raid Benin.

How would Fulani, Ijaw and Yoruba react to Ojukwu's dillemma? First, Ojukwu's dillemma - Sorrounded on all sides by Nigerian forces and cut off from his underground bunker, the Biafran leader panicked. Realizing there is no more arsenal with which to stop the advancing enemy, he packed his family and fled....abandoning Biafra! Fulani- Finding itself trapped, the leader would immediately radio out to the nearest ally post and request a military backup. If backup took too long and there is delay, in the heat of danger, he will beat a retreat through the bush and escape than be captured or killed. Ijaw - Immediately he finds himself trapped in the war, the leader will start blowing up infrastructures that will benefit the enemy. He will remain on the spot and use collateral damage to force the enemy to a ceasefire. If the enemy fails to accept a ceasefire the Ijaw leader will withdraw deep into the swamp and setup death traps for the enemy to freely walk into. Yoruba - Immediately he finds himself trapped, he will device strategy, plan A, plan B. He will use plan A to send repeated warning messages meant to distract and make the enemy think he is weak and compromised, but secretly deploy plan B meant to actually trap the enemy into realizing his foolishness, as he perishes lamenting in regrets. |

I want Northern parasites to come and defend this thrash from Ango. He said Northern agriculture is 45% of federal income. I say how much does groundnut sell in international market? Bloody almajiris |
LegendHero:I respect your analytical mind. You have deep and critical mind and you do well giving structure and meaning to abstract things. Ibo come bow down and worship this man. Even Ojukwu, your legend, is beneath this LegendHero. LegendHero Amaka! |
Sorry sis. Take heart, God will bless you with more. |

[quote author=DCatt post=90357609]It's the same way small animals like rats wish the king of jungle like lion to sleep for 100 years. LegendHero:Britain screwed up on many fronts and it was glaring to see. 1. French wanted to merge its territories in Niger with Northern Nigeria. They practiced same faith, spoke same language and were under same administrative Emirates. Britain denied them but shortly afterward realized Northern Nigeria was dead weight. At that point could have gifted them to France. The freak British gifted the useless land to Southern Nigeria instead. 2. Azikiwe was educated but his bestial instincts for domination ruined him and destroyed his people. These figures and tabular data you produced were available to the regional governments, they werw not hidden. Could the economic leadership in West be the underlying reason Azikiwe wanted Ibo to dominate West and Nigeria by all means? We can see for instance that under Macaulay NCNC had national representation and was diverse. Under Azikiwe it was Ibonized. Azikiwe also attempted to Ibonize national universities. If he had succeeded in his struggle to be premier in West he would have Ibonized Westrrn rwgion. If he had succeeded in the coup of Jan66 he would have Ibonized the military and civil service. If he had succeeded in the war of 67 he would have Ibonized entire South. The sole goal of Ibo agenda, whether pushed by Azikiwe or Ironsi or Ojukwu or any Iboman....is to Ibonize a wider political frontier. As at today they have Ibonized Nigerian markets but they continue to be under developed and deficient. While they have access, they always fail at managing leadership to complete their takeover of any sector...whether economic, political, social or military. |

mrvitalis:He responded to the article ahead of you and he was discrediting the claims from North. You are yet to give a single ha in response to North. You are one of the Northern agents that plant division. You are on the ibo side with mrvitalis. More than likely you have a moniker that sits on yoruba side to bash ibo. Give us your thoughts on what the article is saying. Ango and his lunatic brothers up North say they feed you Ibos and feed us Yorubas. Whats your take, my Ibo brother? |
mrvitalis:I say give response on Ango. Abi Ango na Yorubaman? |
mrvitalis:I think you are an agent of North. Everytime North raise issue you jump in and deflect it to other unrelated targets. Give a response on what Ango said. |
LegendHero:Thanks, yeah I see. Look at North on the data table. Shyyte! |
Good! If they had not caught him he would by now be throwing down on some akpu and ofensiala with baby knuckles and elbows. ![]() |
Kudos! Good achievement. |
mrvitalis:Se you no see data and gazette from LegendHero? |
LegendHero:Bro, I thought Benin had rubber monopoly in the 60s. Do you have data for coal? |
Lets focus North and stop this West East thing. Ango Abdullahi is stupid for claiming North sustains Nigeria. With what? The best cash crop they have in North is groundnut. How much does groundnut sell in international market? If he is talking about subsitence farming, we have always maintained that fulani herdsmen has a agenda for destroying farmlands in south......its tied to political goal that Ango is alluding to, make South a dependent people on Northern food crop. |
mrvitalis:No it is not impossible. The entire south forest is natural ecosystem for palm trees and its kernels. Those in South with more land mass will have a higher yield of the crop. |
