EducationRe: My Younger Sister Is Too Dull. by Mexyz(m): 7:53pm On Jul 30, 2019
RiyadhGoddess:
Op you and your mom or any other person in the family should stop forcing her. Just stop it!!! Instead of forcing her, channel all that energy to find out what her interest are. Like you said she loves reading story book so I am very sure that asides story books there might be some other areas of interest that you guys haven't discovered or she haven't discovered or she knows but afraid to talk about it since all you are after is Study Study Study. Find out what she loves(areas of interest) and use that as a tool to bring out the love to study again. Also please get her a mentor. It could be an educational mentor or counselor or something related trust me they will do the work and bring out the best in her. I know a lot of people whose lives changed after seeing one. They are doing well now...
See Op, I use to have a distant cousin who hates to study. He hates school that how he crossed secondary school I don't even know but his parents must have pushed him by force without taking time to know the reasons behind his lazy and unserious attitudes toward studies. The real deal blew out when he got to Uni. Nobody to bribe in the private Uni he was and his grades were so bad. Bad is an understatement. His parents talked and talked, scold and scold for where no changes. He was sent away from school because of his poor performance. Everyone thought that was the end for him. Some were already saying ko lo ko ise mechanic lols. Not until a man visited them and when he heard what happened, he called my distant cousin and spoke to him. The following week my distant cousin began a few weeks mentorship class and that was how my distant cousin in depth passion, interest was discovered. He use to like computer. He just loved playing around computer. He will pieces and fix it, do one thing one thing with the computer but nobody noticed it. When he was in the Uni before being sent away, the only class he loved and enjoyed was CIT and he was a business admin student imagine.
My distant cousin dropped out of school but today he is an IT Guru working with an oil firm. Them dey fight for am sef... I hope he doesn't get to read this...

Another case is a young lady who the parents pushed her all through secondary school but she had no interest but the parents didn't care because she must just go to school by fire by force. She just knew no jack, nothing but the parents had the money for special centres and all. She got into the Uni, the girl just didn't understand what was happening there. She began to skip classes and even miss school. Of course she lots of carry overs. Her mom will come to school and cry and cry until one day during her parents visit to the school, after the usual cry and cry, she told her parents ENOUGH! Stop it! I do not like School. I don't want to be in school but you all keep forcing me. Her parents were shocked. Her room mates and friends tried talking to her to stop it. Her mom cried more saying people will mock them and it's the work of the enemies. Her mom begged her friends to talk to her but this girl begged her parents to stop wasting their money. She said she wants to be a Top Fashion Designer. That was how this girl dropped out of school to pursue her dreams. Her parents are rich, she was sent out of the country to pursue her dreams after the parents got counseled. Today she's a big Time designer.

So Op or whoever reading that is also experiencing this, find out what your passions or area of interest are. It is a tool to bring out the greatness in you. Op find out what your sister likes or even ask her what she wants to become in life, what are her dreams? Start with that. Then we can then use that as a tool to bring out or unlock the greatness in her.
Lastly pls show her love! Not just you but every member of your family. Do not call her, I repeat, do not call her NEGATIVE names.
Read my signature

God has a destination for you. He has an ultimate plan. He knows where you are right now and where you are going to. He is not just interested in the destination. He is interested in the process and the progress. Oh when God picks you up, He has a destination in mind for you and He wants you to be there.
Good Morning FAM. I wish you a Blessed Day Ahead.

*Shile*
After a very hectic day in the Office coupled with this terrible traffic am in, reading your reply to Op brought a huge smile to my face.
May the good Lord bless you beyond human understanding for this piece.
Henceforth, just know you have someone on Nairaland following you bumper to bumper.

I'm sure more victims like Mr Owolabi are still going to die because of the stubbornness of the Buhari led FG.

This is the mess Yoruba in their stupidity or do I say sophistication and Hausa gullibility puts us in the country

In South yoruba has always sold out and would be selling out in their political sophistication...they owe the nation an apology for putting us in this mess

As of the North...we have given up on them

The better South ...Niger Delta (excluding Edo ) and South East should demand an apology from political gullibility from Yoruba
come, what's really your obsession with Edo State? We voted an APC man as our governor, does that mean we can't vote a competent person from another party just because he is not from a party you like?
And what exactly is wrong if your South East stand alone? Why always mentioning South South?

Nigeria and Nigerian Football Administrators (NFF) needs to really be ashamed of themselves if these bunch of UNINTELLIEGENT and RUDDERLESS MISFITS is all they could gather in a Nation of 200Million footbal-crazy players!

It is certain that our football has really gone down to a disgraceful level and it is even made worse by this Clueless German Coach they brought it, who cant find eleven good footballers in Nigeria but is always IMPORTING some Mediocres from Europe (As long as they dont play in Nigeria, they are good enough!)

I love watching Nigerians play but even a fan like me is tired of watching this kind of mediocre performance, day-in, day-out.
From the Under 21, to the Women and now this useless bunch, it is just too much embarrassment in four weeks.

On a good day, even our local league team like Eyinmba, MFM, Tornado or Kano Pillars, Sunshine Stars, will beat this "No-Skill" South African team at least 2-0.
Just look at the players we have who cant string three passes together, cant control the ball, the striker (ighalo) is tripping himself in front of an open goal instead of kicking the ball inside the goalpost!

Somebody should please tell me ONE THING that these bunch of misfits did right today.
I want ot hear it.

tactius:
I get your point...and to be honest, I wish I did not have to write what I wrote upthread....

But the problem is, we are not earning enough money to pay for subsides. Going back to agruculture and mining is a good idea...but it is going to take time to get back to where we used to be (and even then, we have fallen so far behind that returns may take longer to see).

However...

Once upon a time, in 2001...GSM came to Nigeria. GSM was expensive.(A package from the company that is now Airtel in 2002 cost N25000 naria...more than what even the 'richest' students recieved in one month...and they even came and put posters in front of the student hostel where we were staying then...ha ha).

And the service was poor. (When they brought internet vis GPRS in 2004/5...service was bad...even slower than what you got in an internet cafe, lol)

And people basically called on the Obsanjo government to cut prices...but the government did not listen to them

The GSM companies made an excess profit...and ivnested that money in building the GSM network we have today...plus most of the internet network we have here. ....it was built with very little government money....

And the GSM companies provided a lot of jobs for people as well...

All because government did not intervene and subsidse their business...which would have made them too broke to make things better.

That's a big reason why I support subsidy removal. I know many Nigerians cannot afford it...but then our country cannot afford subsides anymore. It is driving us into a debt and we cannot keep taking loans anymore.
True though, I just wish every Nigerian reason this way, unfortunately its not so.
Few of us in this country actually think or look what the future holds.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria On The Verge Of Bankruptcy - Emir Sanusi by Mexyz(m): 6:25pm On Jun 25, 2019
tactius:
EXACTLY

Finally, someone has the cojones to tell the truth.

I should point out that the Emir has been saying this for years (along with Okonjo Iweala, he backed GEJ in 2012 over subsidy removal).

The truth is, WE HAVE TO STOP PAYING SUBSIDES for power and electricity. Subsides have been going up because the number of Nigerians buying cars, generators, etc...is going up.

Subsides are also the reason why we cannot build new refienreis and attract investment in the downstream sector...as well as the power sector...because who is going to refine fuel at N165 (NNPC figures) and sell it below N150?? Who is going to come and invest in pwoer sector and be colecting bills at 30% the cost of power production??

Who is going to accept government that forces him or her to sell goods at a loss, and only pays you the difference between the government price and the price you bought the goods at?

And the cabals are being fuelled because quite simply...government polices force them to engage in sharp practices like smuggling fuel across the border to earn a profit...and make claims for products not improted.

Meanhwile, oil our major earner is at $80 and below. We need it at $140 per barrel to be able to run an economy WITHOUT BORROWING.

So, we have no choice. Subsidies must go. YES....we will be paying N300 and above for fuel (which by the way is what they pay in Niger, Cameroon, even Benin...and all these countries are as poor as we are...and Niger is even poorer...and they all produce oil). Yes, electricity bills will shoot up to N30000 and above per month for a one room apartment...but we haven't got any choice.

Our budget cannot sustain us.

So, let's face facts, YES....LET US FIGHT CORRUPTION AS WELL, LET APC STOP BEING PARTIAL....but the truth is SUBSIDY HAS TO GO...unless you got N20 TRILLION extra for Nigeria every year...somewhere.

In 2012....Nigerians foolishly rejected GEJ's good idea of removal of subsidy...partial yes...but better than not removing it. Thanks to that we missed out in investment...and in job creation, refinery building (yes...we could have had more refinereis built than just Dangote) and even sorting out the power problem.

Note...Any one quoting me to insult me, or curse me will be REPORTED TO THE MODS. You are free to disagree with me, but please be polite. Thank you
Nice points and suggestions you raised up there Sir.
Now I want to ask a question, how many Nigerians living in one room apartment today can comfortably pay 30k as electricity bill ALONE? Inf act some of the ones we referred to as middle class in the country can't pay that in a month for their 2/3 bedroom flat. The problem still remains those people we call leaders in Nigeria, just as you pointed out, I believe we have hundreds of so called Petroleum importers who receive millions of dollars monthly as subsidy when in actual fact they don't import even a litre of fuel.
Yes I fully support everything you wrote but the truth still remains that Nigerians will take to the streets if these measures are taken because they don't trust their leaders not to embezzle the money that will be saved from cutting subsidies.
SURE-P is dead and buried today.
