sonnie10: Prices won’t adjust overnight even if dollars is a little lower against the Naira now. It takes between 4-6 months for goods to arrive from warehouse in China to Warehouse in Nigeria. From experience, I will explain how Nigeria market reacts to exchange rate.
Let’s say an importer imports an AC at the cost of #450k each in January when dollar was $1-$450. Then in July dollar went up up to #550. What big wholesalers do is they buy up all the stock from the importers. ( in fact, importers do not actually keep those stocks, they distribute them to wholesalers) Now the importer has sold or distributed all his AC stock at #450k. But he needs to come up with #550k to order for new stock that would arrive in 4-6months. Therefore the new stock that would arrive in November would be sold or distributed at #550k. The wholesalers know this. Remember those stock they got for #450k ? They would never sell them for less than #550k due to obvious reason. The reason is because when they return to the importers in November, they would be a new price. Comes November, dollar changes to #530. Consumers would assume an importer would adjust his price to sell an item that was imported at #550k for #530 at a #20 loss! No, expect to buy it for #580k even though dollar is a little less at the moment.
You see that wholesalers that got it for #450k? He too is sold out at maybe #500k, and made #50k profit which he used to take care of himself and family and rent. They importer gave him a grace of 3months to pay up for goods collected. So he is fine with doing some turnovers with money. Now he needs to restock. He goes to the importer, this time with cash, which is #450k being all he has left from the initial business . To his surprise, the same AC is now #580k. Where would he get the difference?
Meanwhile, consumers are waiting for him with hope of reduced dollar which would translate to reduced price. He dare not say otherwise, if not he is greedy. succinctly put. You can't explain it better at all |

While cost of goods and services are increasing, the minimum wage has remained the same and unemployment rates is still very high. While all are contributing factors, don't rule out Nigerians are greedy |

The wooden front is more expensive than this.
Dollar is coming down, yet prices of items still going up.
Before they blamed dollar rate, what should be blamed now? demurrage and delays at the wharf is a problem. The time it takes to clear goods now is longer due to congestion. Everything we see now is after effects of lockdown imposed during the height of COVID-19. Please know that I don't hold brief for anyone oh |

n3xt: What’s the guarantee this is caused by paucity of fund?
What if the owner paid more and the installer is not experienced enough to handle such work?
I had a similar experience on a site. The installer bought good materials but failed to use gusset plate where necessary. We had to decommission and reinstall. first, gussets can NEVER make a tank stand fail. As important as they are, they can NEVER make a tank stand fail. When building a tank stand, first consider the foundation. A tank stand is as good as the foundation. In the case of subject under discussion, the foundation was too wide. So the weight of the tank wasn't resting on the channels leading to the foundation. For a tank that high, standalone foundation won't work but chained foundation like in the picture below Weight of the load. This tank stand was constructed for two 750 gallons of water at maximum but the owner went and used a 1000 gallons and 500 gallons. The weight was disproportionate which led to the failure. Another thing is quality of materials. The quality of iron is dropping daily and getting more expensive too. So most times when finance is highly constrained, contractors go for the cheapest alternative. 1½" angle iron is currently looking like 1¼" and it's lighter too. Even when all these are adhered to, experience and professionalism is important.

Another thing is that we have changed the configuration of the plans to match government demands. We now have 3 flats on the ground and 3 on the first floor. this house is now looking more like an exclusive hotel |

spyder880:
It's a tough situation, although I am not holding brief for importers but it takes time for the goods paid for with the high dollar rate to arrive Nigeria, get cleared and be consumed in the market before the goods they will buy at these lower dollar rates will arrive much layer, maybe even next year. clearing goods now takes longer time than it usually does. Most importers are low on stock not because they don't have the funds but because clearing backlog. So the very few who still have goods sell at premium and if eventually the goods get cleared, the importer will mock up price to take care of the expenses at the wharf |

vanbonattel: You are conveniently avoiding mentioning all the other people who collected money from you along the same road and facing only your brothers, that's my POINT.
Are you afraid of being flogged if you paint the whole picture without resorting to self hate to make your points?
The money you see them collecting is from their land, their space, their revenue. If you like call it laziness or anything you want but I haven't seen you condemn MC Oluomo and all the other Agberos you pay in Lagos if you've been there before.
My point is that your focus and hate is directed at your own brothers for a general malaise bedeviling the entire rotten country, if men like you've empowered, you will start by killing your own brothers because you want to be seen to be right in the eye of other tribes. Other tribes protect their own but Igbos kill their own as usual. You want people to clap for you online but they are clapping because you are stamping your people down, for a crime being openly perpetrated by all the law enforcement agents.
Am afraid that you might not even have the mental capacity to wrap your head around my argument. I give up. do you know why Igbos are doing better, they don't condemn mediocrity. Just because others do bad doesn't mean we have to start comparing ourselves with them. So because others are doing bad, we emulate and compare ourselves to them. Say Lagos is burning, what business does it have to do with me in Anambra? Why not make our lands the envy of others instead of comparing our evil with theirs. This is why Abia State is the way they are. They blame people who don't have any business with them. You mentioned Lagos, why not ensure that we generate same amount of revenue like them instead of copying what MC oluomo is doing there? Must we emulate evil. Just so you know, I travelled to Lagos for a job,got my materials from mainland to island without paying a dime to anyone. Another time, I went from Lagos to Ogun State without paying anyone a dime. So yes, Lagos has agberos but they don't work like our people. You see them with uniforms and their revenue goes to the government and that's why they're hitting almost 1trn as revenue meanwhile the whole Igbo State is lagging behind Kano State. Are you not even ashamed. Let's say they allow for fiscal policy and each state is to generate their own income, how do we pay salaries with less than 2bn a month |

Whobedatte: I say this again , agberos in the east is way too much , more than the whole Agberos for naija . I left Enugu for Onitsha and If I tell you weytin agberos take my eyes see for Agbani road to Ogbete . They are always stationed where there is traffic and before you know it , they jump inside your bus , drag key with your driver and ask you to pay a ridiculous amount of money I paid over 15 k in Enugu On my way to Onitsha in awka , these imbeciles came on a state road oo and start asking for owo boys which I paid another 2k In Onitsha ,make I just climb bridge o another 70k paid . In Onitsha these guys are not branded with any govt uniform or any office ,na their garage them carry me go . My bus slept there for two days I nearly cried . Make I pay carry my bus , I paid again 1k for tyre to be pumped after deflating my tyres , 3k for gate But these people will always cry of victimisation I'm Lagos everytime ! Haba I have worked on the fiels virtually in all parts of the country and ABA , Onitsha , Enugu , Owerri , bayelsa and pH is the worst place to work . Not even the north with all their crisis . Foolish people people who sit in their house and write comments on social media don't know this. A driver brought goods to my office,he lost side mirrors to agberos who broke it after he paid 30,000 at Onitsha. He listed the amount of money he paid and deducted it from the cost of the trip, I took pity on him |

vanbonattel: At least I am better than you that is hating your own brothers to support other people. Your rationality is a waste. Oka mma na ilo. I'm not hating my brothers. We didn't go from battered people of the war to controlling the trading sector of this country by being lazy. Agbero isn't what we are known for. Youths are known to work hard and not staying idle looking for stipends to collect. But like I said, you don't understand these things because hate has beclouded you. I travelled with my driver to make a delivery over the weekend,he was all but crying that everything they make is stolen by few individuals who do nothing. Have you travelled through Awka to Enugu and seen the menace of agberos? You sit behind the keyboard after eating from your parents and you probably unemployed and all you do is blame others for your misfortune |

You forgot those because they are northerners taking your money and enriching the north, but you must fight your brothers.
