Work started on the smaller gate. I had to suspend work on the big one so I can file and apply body filler while I still can before the components are welded. Failure to do that will result to a very dirty work cause once the components are welded, there will be no space to apply body filler and do the cleaning

materials are 100% wrought iron

60 by 60 wrought pipe

30 by 30 wrought pipe

2mm plain pan

12mm wrought iron rod.

The price is 850,000.

But if we use normal steel iron, the price drops to 550,000

Hence if I’m going to be doing that then there’s no need for natural weak pressure.

No welder worth his salt should listen to a client on something not safe and structurally deadly.

Nigeria is a jungle. Most times, what people prioritize is money and not safety. Some vendors, once they hear another person is bringing a quotation, they will redo their initial quotation and trust me most times, the proposed materials takes a hit. And then the client looking to get a bargain deal will want to get the most with the least amount possible.

At the end of the day, the client will suffer from the mishap. Imagine a tank falling on your site and probably killing someone.

I advise people, you can manage doors and rails plus burglaries but please don't manage structures like tanks and pillars of your builds

one reason people do standing tank is because once you pump water up to the tank, you don't have to worry about water pressure and usage again

The inbuilt one requires maintenance which is almost never done. It then becomes a habitat for horticulture and animals.

This story didn't happen in my site, but on a site adjacent to the one we were working on. Its the same type of concrete casting team, as tough and ruthless as they come, hired to cast a decking for an ongoing building near us.

I started hearing shouting matches, threats and accusations both from among them and later, between them and the supervisor of the other site, I knew better than to intervene. The argument was all centred on money and the conditions of the work. Maybe they agreed on something, but they started work very late, and they were delayed by the late arrival of the last trip of sand. What impressed me was the speed of their work that day, they were fast.

So they completed the work around 9pm and demanded for their money, but the owner of the work ( or is he the engineer, I dont know who that man is) has silently driven off from the site, holding their remaining balance. These guys, after completing the work started to demand for their money even before they took their bath. The supervisor was making fruitless calls to the either his Oga engineer, or to the owner of the house, I don't know which.

So they caught the supervisor and beat him up, seized his phone and still not satisfied, they went back inside the house and pulled out about 6 to 8 bamboo supports from under the freshly cast decking in the middle of the main living room, the decking sagged dangerously low, ruined. They quickly jumped the back fence and ran away into the night, only one was caught.

When I came to the site the following morning, police were everywhere searching and looking for whom to arrest. It will cost them money to remove the ruined decking in the affected areas and redo a new cast, with time wasting and the emotional stress.

Site work is war sometimes.

now this is extreme wickedness on the part of the site owner. How can people work for you until 9pm and you decide not to pay. No be office work but energy demanding stressful work

First off, hidden water tank should be included ab initio with the structural drawings of the building. If you are already at water tank stage of your project, it is now too late to ask this question unless hidden water tank was originally designed for the building.

A common feature of water tanks is the weight. Water tanks are really heavy and if the load was not calculated in the design, with adequate beams and columns built along, one disadvantage is that introducing the hidden tank DIY can cause significant structural problem for the building like cracks, water pooling leading to damp walls and algae growth.

Another issue with hidden water tank is good water pressure. You are more likely to suffer water pressure issues with hidden water tank compared to water tower if the design is wrong. A wrong design is the tank sitting flat on top the decking level. A good design should raise the tank one meter minimum about the ceiling level of the house.

Another issue with hidden water tank is access issue. The design should incorporate access for maintenance. And it should be noted that maintenance cost of hidden water tank is higher compared to water tower.

In terms of cost, I don't think the cost difference is significant between the two but operationally, water tower is more effective and more effecient. Water tower is less pleasing aesthetically but I have seen really horrible hidden water tanks.

Information just reaching me now indicates that the 600 meters of stone coated roofing tiles I bought has completed the roofing of this house and the security post! That is as against the 715 sqm the roofing installers asked to buy. A difference of 115 sqm.

I asked them, how come? They said it was a typographic error when they were inputting the data into the phone before sending to the man that summed it up.

I am happy, at least we are not going to buy more roofing tiles.
