but staad isn’t economical
ETABS is fair compared to STAADS. Though STAADS does it better for steel designs.

prota structures is an advanced version of Orion. It designs and details steel also
smileyI'm aware of that. It's funny though but i'll rather use Orion and some other software say STAADS for steel. Exports from Prota details requires much more editing in AutoCAD than those from Orion. The only reason I would have preferred using Prota is the staircase detailing but unfortunately it's not giving the appropriate result (could be that I'm doing it wrongly though) but I'd rather design and detail it manually jor. No time.

For URP students looking for IT placement, you can try out some surveying(Land, Quantity or Geological survey) firm. You can do this by searching online and specifying the city you prefer. For Civil Engineering Students looking for IT placement in Ibadan, you can try out Etteh & Aro and partners, BT Struct, Ade Adewole & associate, Trecon, Intecon, Pentagon etc..these are top notch civil engineering firms that deals with both Structural and Highway design. Apply early to their offices because most will conduct interview/test evaluation.
Hi bro. Please do you have an idea of what Etteh Aro & partners's aptitude test is like? I got invited for it and I will love to know what to expect. Thanks. Mine is for graduate internship.

Ehm I am no sir, just some dude.. To answer your question, let me put it this way, Orion is what you learn as a beginner; it is a pretty decent software for basic RCD. but you dont want to be a beginner, you wouldnt also be employed to design basic structures only, and you likely would be doing STEEL too. so yeah, you would need to get your teeth into ROBOT, SAP2000, STAAD PRO etc. By the way Orion takes no effort to learn, requires very little structural and modelling knowledge to even use it when you compare it to the world that stuffs like ROBOT would throw you into. I figure when you need to switch, you would find it daunting cos you would be so used to simplistic Orion.

My biggest problem with Orion is that it shoves you from the actual structural concepts that your competence depends on and doesn't do much either. When you move to an analysis software, be it robot, sap2000 etc. like you would have to, you would find yourself asking do i apply a release here? what directions should this be released in? what load combination? do i consider out of plane buckling for this? you know all the structural concepts and criteria that you'd have to deal with on a project, would stare you in the face and Orion cant help you out.

Also when it comes to features, Orion is a very poor choice. ROBOT has a CFD based wind simulator that allows you get a more accurate wind load than conventional method would, you also have FEA, interoperability etc. I would rather ask one to learn tekla structural designer than orion. oops by the way CSC the developer of Orion, sold out to Tekla, so orion is dead now, what you have now is Tekla Structural Designer.
You are so on point bro. I use to be one who uses CSC ORION. First I discovered that you'll lack behind on so many things you need to know as a design Engineer. Orion is shallow. I fell in love with SAP 2000 and ETABS. Ever since I started learning them, I feel like using hand calculations on many occasions, but EXCEL helps there though. Orion makes one lazy and shallow.

Modified* The upgrade to CSC Orion, ProtaStructure is actually much better now.
Education › Re: Universities With Fast Postgraduate M. Sc Programmes In Nigeria by micxwell(m): 5:58pm On Apr 21, 2018
Crixina:
One thing you have to understand Op is that what works for one may not work for another.

Take OAU for instance, that place is probably the worst...like if worst had a worst, but I have also seen people who have completed their programme in four semesters...18months tops
There are a lot of factors to that
1. A good supervisor that's ready to work with you

2. If you can handle the administrative bureaucracy which will mean you getting your act together and on time, because sometimes even if you finish your shiit on time...some administrative wahala will find a way of keeping you, which brings me to number 3

3. The YOU factor, let's face it, some students are damn lazy(in Bubu's voice) some just travel for an entire semester, then reappear one day and just expect everything to go smoothly.

So as much as the university counts, but other factors also come into play, which doesn't make one better than the other.
Well said. For instance, I resumed class late April 2016 at UI (Civil Engineering). Things went on smoothly for about two months then there was strike for about two months. We wrote our first semsester exams in september despite the fact that many of us especially those in other options resfused to agree to it. They all said they weren't prepared. Thank God for the set of stubborn class reps we had. They told the HOD to fix the exam and he did. The same thing repeated itself during the second semester and it was even more serious. Eventually the reps made sure we wrote our second semsester exams before Xmas (still in 2016). We had our final defense in August 2017, making it just about 16 months minus the 2 months strike. We all went home happy thinking we will convocate come November 2017. Later, the PG coordinator said there are 2 guys amongst us that are yet to finish their coursework and therefore they are afraid the PG School will sanction the department if they got to know that they allowed their students to defend a final project knowing full well that they aren't done with coursework. The department refused to send our results. Hence, my set was delayed by 2 students. We are 84 in all. Hopefully we'll convocate this year.
SO, THERE ARE MANY FACTORS INVOLVED. LUCK BEATS ALL.

TV/Movies › Re: Live: Big Brother Naija 2018 (Double Wahala) BBNaija Live Thread by micxwell(m): 4:55pm On Apr 16, 2018
nigerianwoman:
Big Brother rigged the show, big brother was supposed to evict two housemates, two weeks to the final which was to be the two housemates with the lowest votes Rico Swavey & Alex.

But Biggie wanted Alex to be in the final, Big brother wanted all the members of the caucus to be the finalist. Lolu is suppose to be a finalist, he would had been if Biggie had eliminated two housemates two weeks ago. Alex would have left with Rico.

Any team Lolu that votes for the caucus is not a true fan of Lolu. As you can see how rigged the show was, two Sundays ago, why was only one housemate evicted. Then a Sunday later, three housemates were evicted. When three members of the caucus was safe, and every Nigerian knows that Miracle was safe from eviction.

Biggie must love watching the caucus so much. It must please and excite Big brother and its sponsors to watch Miracle, Tobi, Nina and Alex.

Biggie has evicted every housemates the leaders of the caucus, Miracle and Tobi did not like, from Leo to Teddy A. Any guy that challenged and made Toracle feel intimidated, Biggie evicted from the show.

I remember how Biggie refused to put Nina and Miracle up for eviction at the same time to save Nina for eviction.
Nina had 4 nominations for eviction.
Cee-C had 4 nominations for eviction.
BamBam had 3 nominations for eviction.
Teddy A had 3 nominations for eviction.
Miracle had 2 nominations for eviction.
Lolu had 2 nominations for eviction.

Biggie decided that Nina, Cee-C, BamBam and Teddy were up for eviction. Why was Miracle and Lolu with two votes ignored. So Nina who has less voters would be saved.
Nina had less voters than Teddy A. Nina had less voters than Lolu. Nina had less voters than Cee-C, Nina had less voters than Miracle. It does not take a mathematician to know, Nina and Bambam would have been the housemates with the lowest votes.

If Miracle and Lolu had been up for eviction that week, it would have been BamBam and Nina that would have gone home that week, instead of BamTeddy.

Last week HOH task, after Nina picked the lowest number and was the 4th to be out, the three remaining contenders were Alex, Cee-C, and Tobi. The three went to pick another note in the cash booth.

Alex has no value on the BB naira note she choose, Alex picked a note with no figure, which means she picked a note with zero amount.
Cee-C had100 BB naira on the note she choose.
Tobi had 100 BB naira he choose.

Biggie even made a joke at Alex saying, Alex what kind of note did you pick. And all the housemates laughed.

I was shocked when after two minutes of silence, Biggie said the three would go and pick again, and this time they would be blindfolded. Alex picked a note with no figure, which means she picked a note with zero amount.
Why was Alex not eliminated from the head of house challenge, it was suppose to be Cee-C and Tobi that had 100 BB naira note each to continue. But Biggie gave Alex another chance. Why?

Alex note had no value, the note equalled to zero, no figure. Why did biggie not eliminate Alex from the HOH challenge.

Cee-C and Tobi was to continue qualifying for the HOH position. Biggie wanted Alex saved last week, because he knew she was the housemate with the lowest vote.

When the three of them went ahead to pick with blindfold, Alex now picked a 100 BB naira note, Cee-C picked 50, Tobi picked a lesser figure. With that Alex won HOH.

The point is Alex was to be eliminated from the challenge after she previously picked a note with no value, a note with no figure, why then did Biggie ignored the rule of the game.
Cee-C and Tobi, was to continue the next round. And if Tobi won he could have saved Alex from eviction. Biggie didn't have to cheat to save Alex.

Why are people keeping quiet at this rigging, at this bias and prejudice, why are all the celebrities watching the show quiet about Big Brother manipulations.

Lolu is suppose to be in the final and he is not because Biggie wanted Alex to be in the final by all means. See all the cheating and bias at Lolu expense.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
BamTeddy hated the caucus more than Cee-C.
Lolu hated the caucus more than Cee-C, but because he is smart he played diplomatically with them, Tobi that was trying to snatch Anto, Lolu despised him, Lolu hated Tobi and Nina, resented Alex and Miracle.

Both BamTeddy, Lolu, Leo hates the caucus, especially Miracle and Tobi more than they hated Cee-C.
BamTeddy true fans are voting Cee-C for the final.
Lolu true fans are voting Cee-C for the final.
Leo true fans are voting Cee-C for the final.

But Biggie will still rig the vote, and give it to Miracle or Tobi. Because Biggie wants a caucus member to win, Big brother refused to eliminate Alex. So the caucus can be happy and be together in the finals.

Let this picture remind Lolu fans of how they were cheated of Lolu being in the finals. And how BB naija is a rigged, bias and manipulative show.
You're so on point. Whether Cee-c is worst than a witch or not, my reserved sms and online votes for Lolu goes to her. I just want to make sure those two are separated. Yea I want her to be the 1st runner up atleast. Rigging is just normal for Nigerians undecided .

My mum is not an artisan. You're making a lot of assumptions about my particular situation. Also wiring is done at the latter stage of a project so I don't know why you're assuming I don't know anything about building. I'm a few steps from completion of a block of flats with no headache so I'm obviously doing something right.

Maybe if some of you calmed down there would be more knowledge sharing instead of posting and people start attacking you. I don't have to have the same experience with you.

And since we're giving unsolicited advice, some of you need to treat your artisans like human beings. Maybe listen to what they're saying and not shut them down like you are trying to do to me, you don't know everything. How and why will I just be looking for an electrician at the wiring stage? All my artisans that came to eat ram at the foundation stage are still with us and they are behaving. I had to post the receipt of my wood for roofing on this thread because awon aiye were arguing about the price. It sucks to be so paranoid when it's not like you're building a skyscraper. Everybody isn't out to get you.

You're right. When i said it shouldn't be done on imported soil, I was viewing it in the context of the foundation picture I posted.

By the time "imported soil" is left for 6months to infinity years, it's no longer imported soil. It would have naturalised so it's no longer building on imported soil.

Also, filling and compacting at every 300-1000mm intervals (depending on the compacting depth of the machine used) as with roads and other high scale projects is tenable. But even this sometimes still gives way to settlement.

Anyone here familiar with that Challenge road inwards Yinka Ayefele music house will notice that after the Mobil filling station, there's a depression cutting across the entire length of the road. When the road was being constructed, they dug almost 30ft because of the huge refuse to get a stable soil and they began filling and compacting. @EgunMogaji might have seen this.

And there have been other places where this was done too and there has not been any depression.

But then, just to be safe, it's better to err on the side of safety.
You are right with the area you described.
