It would have been insulting if the woman is ugly. That woman is not. That's why most times, I see beyond emotions of what you think it is or should be, but what it really is,hardcore facts, real, raw and logical. Why would the man in that picture want to disgrace his wife when they obviously look happy?

I expected Nigerians to know this, not react anyhow or turn it into some bullshit fight.
He may be the kind of person who says insensitive things, you can even find some in your family who dont know how to talk

also the two comparative concepts that you juxtapose should not combine to produce an overall negative. the combination of not being pretty vs loyal gives the impression that he settled for her because other women keep dumping him

if i wrote a caption about a guy saying, "he may not be the most handsome, but at least he gives me money for soup", im sure more than a few guys would find that insulting

you dont always need to display your hardcore logical facts for the world to see, because you may end up with an emotional response. in fact its the subject matter contained by your words that produce the emotion.

thats why nobody except God can hear our thoughts and you should try to keep the unpalatable ones to yourself

Try and understand logically naaaa or are u ugly too?
You made an interesting point but you forget a primary issue, which is overall optics. What I mean is that it just sounds terrible on first hearing it

There is a Shakespeare sonnet where he said much worse things than this, but it still sounded good

this guy didnt package it well and as a result it sounded insulting

We need someone with more temerity who can really confront him on this issue and ask some pressing questions. This man is already tired, we need a bold person who will hold them accountable

So how do you take her to see a doctor without telling her the reasons for seeking medical help.

Please, anyone you cannot have a frank and open discussion with cannot be considered a relation to you. What kind of thinking is this.

By the way she should have informed the husband a long time before that. I just cannot understand what marraiges are becoming these days. Folks just live anyhow with enamored secrets and useless agendas. The mum's burden is her burden and so becomes the burden of the husband automatically. What is there to hide.
A adult woman can decide to spoil her mother with a routine medical check-up, its a sign of love. Plus, apart from reproductive matters, women of a certain age need to keep an eye on their blood pressure, cholesterol and other stuff. So she probably needs to see the doctor anyway

Yeah maybe she could have informed the husband beforehand, she probably found it too embarrassing or she was already used to it and forgot that other people outside of her family wouldnt understand.

Better to do something now before one of those kids says something out of pocket and bursts the whole thing

Hmmm...serious. Then the woman is a walking miracle, just one stress away from calamity. A&E should be her port of call this morning. Folks are just playing bingo with their lives.
yes, some people feel embarrassed and intimidated in a doctors office, so they just keep ignoring the problem even though they may feel bad about it

Or they will keep going to buy drugs without trying to find the root of their problem

Take her to the hospital for a proper scan. It is far reaching but not entirely impossible that foreign objects and other post procedural contaminants remained after the miscarraige. I have heard of such before but it was noticed after a much shorter interval, weeks, not the decades as will be in this case.
Maybe by now they would have become calcified like a lithopedion

She said '' we discuss it amongst ourselves, we her children'' from what I read, no one has discussed the issue with her.
She also said the mother and father have started sleeping in different rooms because of it. And unless theres something wrong with her nose, she would be able to tell when she had changed out of her inner wears. Not to mention visiting an adult child after wedding, first child and second child.

maybe she even has some residual psychological trauma from the miscarriage that she has never been able to resolve. theres no point in bringing it up now, its obviously too much of a hot topic.

they need to try another method.

You and your mom are matured, I don't see why she would take offence to you telling her about her problem. As long as you don't tell her in a way that makes it seem like you are making fun of her. Nevertheless, how she'll feel doesn't matter as long as your intension is to try and help her but if she takes it another way, fine. At least you tried to help
She cant tell her, theyve been telling her for years and she still doesnt listen. no need to tell her just take her to the doctor. The smell is just a symptom of a larger problem so they will fix all together

A person that no one can talk to/advice. is ft one a person?
I just pray she does not cause crack in d daughter's marriage cos, one way or d other, d son in law will put 2 and 2 together and figure out dt d smell pervades anytime his mother in law is around.
The mama cuts across as not only toxic and odious underneath but in personality.
He was not very polite about it but he did make a point. From miscarriage when the children were growing up until now the op is married with kids of her own, the mother has either been too embarrassed or too stubborn to do something about it, to the point where her and the dad not longer share a room and still nothing. thats the part of the story thats been confusing me. this should be a period of like 15 or 20 years. theres this saying that goes, "if your brother tells you inside the house that your mouth is smelling, then it's not an insult." whatever job she did, even if a humble farmer or market woman, wouldnt somebody other than the family start to notice it and say something terrible?

It shouldnt really have gotten to the point of omugwo before something was done about this, though better late than never

I agree with everybody that they should sensitively make the ob/gyn appointment, in fact op should tell her its just a routine appointment without mentioning the smell but pre-inform the doctor on what to look for. if op explains her medical history + how sensitive she is about it, the doctor will know how to proceed without setting the lady off

If telling her she smells bad hasnt worked after all this time, there is no point in saying it now. Better to just sort the problem out codedly without informing her... this is a seriously loooooong time we're talking about!

Read a story once told by the reverred Igwe Aguleri Idigo I and his account of how the Name Anambra came about was that it was gotten from mmiri omambala which the white man pronounced as river anambra... I agree with this school of thought more cos the river pre-dated the birth of Anambra state. The anam branch story was a first for me today.
yeah its just a corruption of omambala... that guy was just trolling

Whatever the poor fellow wrote, they would have had something to say...

People don't seem to understand the concept of border communities

An artificial state line or boundary that was created in the past 30 or 40 years is not going to prevent the people that live there from speaking their language, no matter how angry you get about it

Just like the boundary the white man drew between Nigeria and Cameroon doesn't stop those people speaking Hausa and Efik

That's because you only get to hear about the high profile kidnappings in the news.
People are getting kidnapped by their friends and neighbours for small 1k to buy suya or drink beer for the night.
I've never heard of people as desperate for money-at-any-cost like my countrymen.
In the worst state of Nigeria, it's still better than many African, Asian and Caribbean countries, yet you don't find them doing the kinds of things Nigerians do just for money.
No surprises here for a society that worships money over morals.
Yes, I nearly modified to say "except if you have very bad family members" but I cleaned it lol.

Well I guess that can be partially combated by not telling people your plans ie how long you're staying for, what you plan to do and all that.

If they select who they associate with wisely and try not to be too sentimental (that your childhood best friend and "cousin" may have already spoilt) I guess they should be all right
