At Midnighter, its not about backwardness. Its our mindset and the way we look at things. Now, listen to this. We complain about the things we dont have and how backward we are not realizing we have not even perfected the ones we have very well, now when the new technology comes in, we cannot even adapt to it well. If you travel in USA major cities, like NYC or Chicago, the trains are all old school and archaic, but they work very well. Go and see the ones in China, the ones in USA is rubbish compared to the ones in China, however, they are well maintained in the USA and they work very well, period. We need to progressively embrace, use very well, whatever it is we have, then make sure we use it judiciously well and then move from it to newer technology. We are not even doing that.
Yes, youre right but isnt that that another way of saying backward? or even backwardly backward? backward in our backwardness? Lol

if we dont perfect how to use a typewriter and the teacher said we should continue with it until Jesus returns, what do we do?

. Oga what is wrong is wrong, you can't defend it .....our educational system needs to be upgraded, right from the basic to the advance level, that's the major reason we continue producing job seekers and not job creators..
you said they should teach excel, and im telling you the teacher said they already teach it, but later.

i am not defending it but he does have some points. it looks like the teachers dont mind it the way it is lol. cant even remember the last time i saw a typewriter

other than type writer I can tell you 50 other topics in different subject that are irrelevant as you all call it.I've enjoyed this argument and Im happy a few other guys are vouching for this including a computer scientist arewa1408.

Arewa1408. that's quite nice.
But why cant you tell me 50 topics that we are aiming for in the future? why do we always have to be backward?

The teacher said they teach them excel later on in advanced class, but i dont know what version it is

@Chithauri, youre very correct. Most times we forget where we are coming from or what we actually need. In my opinion, if they can afford to have computers, then ofcourse, why not, however, if they don't have computers and they don't have typewriters, then tell me what will they be doing ? Back in the day of ASUU strike, i was a Computer Science student then in the Univ, My parents couldn't afford all those Computer schools then, but i wanted to learn how to type fast. I enrolled in a typewriting school in Obalende with those kpeke-kpeke typewriters. Yes, i felt out of place and the whole environment, fellow students, even the instructors all made me look like i didn't belong there. I was there for maybe only three days, but i cherished those "ASDF :LKJ spacebar" lessons i heard and i regretted quitting later on. Yes, later at work you have typing tutors etc however, if all you have is a typewriter and you type well with it, the transition to typing on a computer keyboard will be a breeze.
Well i can see the good aspects of it i just dont like it being taught to children who dont know any better. at least you made an active choice to go there for a particular reason

. Please don't break your head, I surprised to see people who support the kind of educational system in Nigeria, this is 2019 not 1988.
Theyre even the ones saying it, its very deplorable

Ok if you wash your clothes by hand, you will know how a washing machine does, and so?

in academics. A will bring a law, 200years later, B will come out with his own theory disproving A. 50 years later, C comes and say A and B are totally wrong. But why do we still study theory A and B?
you are even worst you want a separate subject for it. In basic 1,2 and 3 type writer is usually 3rd term. For 1 and 2 its the week 10 and 11, for basic 3 it week7,8,9, and 10. we don't dwell on it much for you to be advocating that we make it a subject. They learn about the keyboard in their computer studies.
I already answered your first question in my previous post

damn right i want a separate course for it because its a topic for extra study or particular interest of an adult somewhere who just likes old things, not for a growing child who has to compete with kids all over the world

well, if you say so. we are still using kerosene lamps and water-wells when those are the stuff of old war stories in other countries, so carry go...

Tell me, why do we study history. Why do we study the saying of dead men. if people didn't use and study this typewriters do you think we will have computers today with simple and efficient keyboard.
We study history so that we can understand our origin. And if the young chap wants to learn about typewriters, let them introduce a new course called "History of Technology" where he will learn about typewriter, abacus, sundial, mangle, plough and all other obsolete technologies

Not to waste somebodys time in the name of business studies

Yes, now its time to study the keyboard and invent another thing...which was the touchscreen-activated keyboard by the way....

After that we should be using eye movements and facial expressions to type...but for nigeria we go dey siddon here dey press typewriter? at 1 hour to independence day?

Nothing good comes easy this thing you are so much in a hurry to dispose off was invented thru hard work. let the kids get this knowledge, it will come in handy. Don't compared Nigeria with China please.
Lol, yes teacher.

but the thing is, why does there have to be a basic course for just typing. all courses including typing should use a keyboard...

I am not in a hurry to dispose of it, i enjoyed it in those days but its time to move on

In the full moon, i dont go out to listen to folktales as my grandmother did, I stay inside and watch tv...those are my new modern folktales.. but i didnt trash the old ones..

Typewriters are now used to learn Keyboarding which is very relevant in the use of computer. Learning through the typewriter is rigorous but it really worth it. That's the course I lecture. I'm happy to see this.
So can you please help your colleague out and explain how it makes sense in 2019...we dont understand

Ok its more rigorous but very soon even keyboards will be on touchscreen so what does it matter...?

There is only one advantage to this:

Typing without error...

In a computer you type back space

Here there is no back space.
that is a great way to think of it..it will probably improve your efficiency..

That is why the student also offer computer. you see? computer offers the advanced. Typewriter offers the manual and less advanced.
Ok, but they ought to have gotten rid of this by now and replaced it with something more useful

The idea of a 14 year old hunching his frame over a typewriter sounds so very terrible

especially when you think of his equivalent in China...ewo...

This lady is a fool.its not the fact whether the era of typewriter is gone or not. typewriting is a topic under business studies and they are to learn with it.let her check syllabus or scheme of work. even shorthand is still taught. I know what am saying because am a teacher.
But arent they supposed to have upgraded it to something else...like keyboard training...? like with an actual computer or some transcription equipment

Its making me feel nostalgic...my dad gave me a half-broken typewriter when i was small..i used to use it and type rubbish lol

I think this should be a type of keyboard training, no?

Not good but better than nothing

Staircase with no handrails for school kids. That is big building code violation In a sane climate.
Moreover those multiplication on the steps are big distractions and could actually lead to fall. Schools should be a safe place for kids
but where's the code violation if both sides of the staircase are encased by the wall huh thinking back to my school i only saw a banister where there was no wall...

and the multiplications help the kids to look at where theyre going to put their legs...

The funny thing is that the real people, whose accent it is, don't get impressed when someone, who has lived all his life in Nigeria, tries to speak English in their accent.

They are more interested in your speaking English in an accent they will understand...not sounding phony because you want to impress them.

For countless number of times, the BBC has pronounced Nigeria's English accent the best in the world.

Some of us don't know the value of what we have, really.
It actually sounds a lot worse when people start contorting their mouths and tongues into all sort of demonic shapes just to form, to the point where you cant even understand them again

I have had to switch over from radio programmes just because i couldnt take it anymore

@Midnighter, Yes, i agree the subject is important, however, we need to dismiss the article cos the reporter made it look like it was in Nigeria. This is the slippery, slippery slope that we are dealing with in this information, blogging, fake news age. So many things that happened elsewhere is reported as if it happened in Nigeria just to manipulate people's reaction and behavior etc.
Yes you are right, it's quite bad. On the other hand at least people are becoming more politically , socially, and technologically literate because of the ability to circulate information efficiently. We just have to monitor how we do it

Just that she's her father and he's blinded by affection so he thinks that every photo she takes should be shared with the world...

You just earned my undiluted respect with this analysis of yours, like I said in my post, I'm not much into biological science or genetics for that matter, I'm an Engineer and I also happen to be a university lecturer and I have met so many students with varying degrees of intelligence hence I developed an interest in this subject matter.

Your analysis can be said to correct to a point coming from socio-cultural influences and also lending credence to nature vs nuture argument put up by psychologist, but I beg to differ a little bit with you on this, but so I don't argue blindly let me continue my research will get back to you later.
Thanks...looking forward to discussing your findings...

What if she is the organizer of the even who decided to host hungry women? Are they there for her dress or for the food they will get lol. Don't get me wrong but its always good to think both ways. Its her dress, its might be her event, its her money and its her life you know.
That one would be even worse lol you are supposed to identify with the people you want to help, not start forming nollywood movie star on top of suffering people.

Even Iara oshiomhole goes to IDP camps to give indomie and still manages to dress like a half-sane person, as "exotic" as she is

There's a time and place for everything, anyway let's just agree to disagree

But I can't see anything inappropriate in what she is wearing. She is actually wearing a nice outfit that suits an event. Because others are wearing old mama outfit don't mean she is inappropriately dressed. That's a decent dress for an event.
Well it's a matter of opinion but it depends on the type of event. She was going to a conference and not a party. Even the one she wore to church h yesterday would have been better

Who is going to take her seriously when she stands up to address the crowd?

Would you wear ripped jeans, sneakers and t-shirt with one crazy slogan to the African men's conference?

There is nothing wrong with her dressing. If my wife dresses like the other women any time she is going for events I will divorce her on time because I can't marry a lady that will always be wearing all these wrapper kind of dress and be covering her hair anyhow. My wife need to always look and dress sharp not local.
It's not about wearing local stuff but wearing appropriate clothing for the occasion

She is just being an awkward nuisance to herself

At the same time the Ambazonian Apostle was trying to embarrass him in a faux-polite way. He could have said all that please and thank you in a private message. I also don't really like it when people do that passive-aggressive stuff
