i based my assumptions on the fact that there are authentic sources for beliefs, practices and established norms. There are also, idle gossips and interpretation of these things. You need to focus on the authentic sources. In the villages, people learn arabic by writing on slates with dye (uli), now, there are malams that write prayer verses, wash it off and drink it believing it will cure ailments etc. Just like those letters of indulgences of the Catholic Church back in the day. These are all practices, yes they have a source and over time people believe in them. Now, in Islamic circles, the prayer of Jonah when he was in the belly of the fish was answered. there is no town called ukwuani in Delta. what you call Anioma is now being divided into Ndokwa, ukwuani and Anioma by those trying to trace their root. infact communities in what they call ndokwa and ukwuani now claim their ancestors migrated from Benin. the enugu and ebonyi accept to be Igbo but the Igbo in Delta are not even United. they are already tracing their ancestry

the Itshekiri uses Yoruba name. Isoko and Urhobo sometimes use Yoruba/Benin names. the Isoko and Urhobo language are similar but both claim different ethnic group.

I can give you the names of 3 to 5 town in Anioma who trace their ancestry to the Benin kingdom. some of them claim their ancestors migrated from Benin. that they adopted a similar language to the Igbo does not mean they are Igbo. at school , Anioma and Igbo cultural day are celebrated separately
