His conversation on phone with the girl's parents on some occasions in the story should not have been in English as he has written out here. Even if the conversations were interpreted it wouldn't be that planned an accurate. Except he is lying.

His sister's character has flaws that is why the character is sidelined. His sister who should represent his family in the whole thing is nowhere to be found.

He was paraphrasing, you dont expect somebody to recount a conversation exactly as it went when retelling it with their own words. The conversation should be taken in context with his writing style and not how you would expect the "characters" to be sounding, especially when we dont know them personally.

Police and legal part is credible since he was not at fault. It was a formality and not an indictment.

Sister's character is not sidelined; her role was commensurate to the events that occurred since you dont know their family arrangement and the guy is already angry with the woman.

The narrative is entirely plausible, dude has nothing to gain from lying.

Relying on natural phenomenon in an artificially-created ethnic microwave like Nigeria is unrealistic. It is better to actively drive integration than wait for different groups to passively waft towards each other when we know that that almost never happens.

Its unfortunate that some children of wealthy people choose to bypass due process and stay back in Lagos and Abuja to be comfortable rather than take the chance to venture into a new environment and enrich the lives of their compatriots. But plenty of wealthy people also go wherever they are deployed to, so long as it is safe.

The aim of NYSC has not been defeated. NYSC is just another arm of public life; in that way you could also argue that the aims of universities, hospitals, schools, pharmacies, etc. have also been defeated just because they are not working to their full potential. So what will we have left if we just throw all those away? That an idea has been executed poorly does not mean it has been defeated. An idea cannot be defeated unless it is debunked by another superior idea.

If we really wanted to face reality we would go back to the drawing board and re-evaluate the infrastructure of the entire scheme to see how we can adapt it to suit modern-day Nigeria. We would improve the pay, subsidise their feeding and transport, stop automatically sending people to schools, update the website, just uproot the whole thing and sort it out.

Yes Nigeria at this present moment is not worth any of our stress and pain, but it could be.

On the contrary, NYSC scheme is a brilliant endeavour with a good rationale but the actual execution is severely lacking.
