Religion / Re: 5 Things To Avoid When Evangelizing/sharing The Gospel by MightyFortress: 11:08am On Feb 08, 2016
iliyande:
There are great ways to share the love of Christ, but there are also some practices that we as messengers of God should follow. Here are five of the most commonly committed mistakes in sharing the Gospel that we should avoid.

1. Don't call them "unsaved."

The Gospel may come across as offensive to non-Christians because it tells people just how sinful they are and how they need a Savior because they cannot redeem themselves. The last thing an evangelist wants to do is offend a person some more by calling them "unsaved". It's true that the person is "lost," but one doesn't have to hear it from you.

2. Don't try to change them

Although God has called us to participate in the work of bringing the Gospel to the ends of the earth, it was never assigned to us to bring change to the person's life. Only God can do that. After leading a person to God, the last thing they want to hear is a list of "Dos and Don'ts." It's important however that they know what is right or wrong, so in order to teach them God's laws encourage a convert instead to read the Bible and find out for themselves.

3. Don't scare them

It's common for Christians to try to convert loved ones by "scaring them out of hell." This is not how the Gospel works. Instead, the Gospel is a story of the love of God that drove out the fear and consequence that comes from sin.

4. Don't neglect their ideas

At first, recent converts will have a lot of ideas, and a lot of them will be theologically wrong. It's important to listen to them and hear their side. Instead of debunking their thoughts, it's best to try asking them why they believe in such instead. We can provoke people into godliness, but we can never force them into it through shooting down ideas.

5. Don't debate with them

Lastly, it's important that encounters with those who are hungry for the Gospel should not turn into debates. When an atheist or non-Christian does not believe at first, respect their decision and accept they're rejection of the message of Christ. Again, it is not up to you to change the person. Instead of debating with a person, offer to pray for him or her instead or pray for him or her on your own time if they refuse.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Making Your 8 Seconds Count Through Your CV by MightyFortress: 5:53pm On Jan 14, 2016
bodeoni:
The other day I was in a postgraduate class on research methods and the lecturer, who also happens to be my supervisor, asked me a question about how I would go about starting my research. A thousand thoughts came to mind and I thought quickly about how best to answer the question; I decided to keep it simple and short. After I had given my answer she looked somewhat disappointed and went on to ask another person who gave a longer answer which she seemed pleased with.

Getting back to my room, I started to ponder on the whole thing, I realised I could have also given the long version of my answer which could have been more interesting-I had failed to communicate the value I possessed. I then related this to how a whole lot of people who actually ‘know’ are regarded as people who do not know because they did not pass off the impression of knowing when given the chance. Often times, it takes a long while before one gets another opportunity- the whole experience gave a new meaning to the saying “opportunity once lost cannot be regained”.

Relating this to the average job seeker, it is common knowledge that most job seekers only have ONE chance to impress a recruiter whether with a CV or in an interview. To make matters worse, it is said that it takes the recruiter about 6-8 seconds to scan through a CV. The challenge therefore is how to make your 8 seconds count. Here are a few tips that come to mind
1. Forget everything you know- I know this sounds crazy but the truth is most times what we know is often that which hinders us from getting to we are going. A whole lot of job seekers have doing the same things and expecting different results, truth is you will wait a long time. The world is changing at a super-fast pace and most persons are oblivious of these changes. This New Year, I would advise that you burn your old CVs, delete them from your phone and hard drives too and prepare a new one from scratch.
2. Avoid Clichés – Believe it or not, most CVs look the same. Having something that every other person has does not make you special or stand out. Avoid those common words on most CVs, subjective words like ‘creative’, and ‘innovative’. These words are just your opinion, there is no way to determine if you can really do these things just by looking at your CV. If you must include them, then also add an achievement section that outlines where you have demonstrated innovation or creativity.
3. Communicate Value- It is important you communicate, as much as possible, what you have to offer the recruiter. Most persons have a boring objective at the beginning of their CV stating how they hope to grow while also adding to the organisation blah blah blah. This New Year, I advise that you scrap the Objective and embrace the Summary. Start your CV with a paragraph about who you are, what you are, what you have to offer and what you are looking for. This gives a quick overview of your CV and might just be what would get your CV to the accepted pile.
4. Numbers- We are in the era of data. Data is everything today, it’s the new crude oil. In my opinion, a CV without numbers has lesser chances of getting selected. Numbers help communicate achievement. Need I say more?
Finally, remember that products are not bought, they are sold.

Have a productive job search in 2016
Cheers

Nice one OP.

Good attempt OP but u can't count kings in Nigeria and bypass the Obi of Onitsha Alfred Achebe Agbogidi. he is about the most reputable and most respected king in the Southeast. Both by education and exposure. until his coronation a member of Shell board of trustee London, present chairman of Diamond bank and an unequalled career in Shell before his retirement.his mere appearance depicts royalty, I will spare members on this thread a long story but if u click the following link u will agree with me that u can't count the first five first class traditional rulers in Nigeria without counting him. You and the people who always like your tribalistic posts...... I wonder.... I just wonder.... Sadly shaking my head for you all..... And you deceive yourself that a certain tribe are hate filled, compared to yourself..... I makes me wonder, still. I want to understand, please... It would be most interesting to meet you in real life... and just stare at you, while you talk..... and see the stuff you are made of... find out what truly makes you tick.... and what drives you, your revolutionary feelings and your brilliant posts..... Lets see the man and get the real picture.. the whole of it... What do you say to my suggestion?
Honestly, it would be interesting to place you in front of an intelligent, neutral and objective audience so that you can truly convince them with your wonderful, swaying oratory and maybe achieve this burning and lifelong passion of yours...
You would make for an interesting study in human psychology and mental psychiatry, I think.... A good project study... We could get get a few renown professors of Human Sociology and other related fields to do a good write up on your passion, maybe make a documentary of it... Who knows, you could win an Oscar or something...
Can we meet you in real life please? Any other avenue to pass across your ideals and values in a more crystallized form, rather than anonymously utilizing this inanimate and definitely ineffective modus operandi... You know, our President Buhari never did his campaigns online.. Tell us what you think please... If you dont mind... A TV interview on AIT, CHANNELS and NTA, wont be that hard to arrange... If you do so well, We could go international, you know.. BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera, etc... Then the could be achieved in an international manner... That would be cool, dont you think?

So Bro, abeg, plenty of those who click like on these wonderful posts of yours are willing to support you all the way To annihilate this hate filled tribe.... Any means of genocide would do perfectly... come out and prove yourself a champion to them.... your fans are waiting....

NORTHERNERS ARE EASY GOING PEOPLE AND THEIR LIFE IS SO SIMPLE AND LESS MATERIALISTIC. THEY ARE HARDLY INVOLVED IN CRIMES AND ARE ALWAYS CONTENTED IN ANY SITUATION THEY FIND THEMSELVES. IMAGINE AN IGBO MAN IN THAT SAME IDP, HIS THOUGHT WILL BE HOW TO SELL FAKE DRUGS TO EVERY ONE THERE OR HOW TO CARRY DRUGS TO ASIA TO MAKE FAST MONEY. I PREFER TO LIVE WITH HAUSAS IN THE SOUTHWEST THAN THOSE HATE FILLED BIAFRANS.
