emmanuelewumi: Nigeria Stock Exchange was established in the early 60s all the listed company were foreign owned at least 99% of the shares were owned by foreigners.
My mentor late Akintunde Asalu in his book "my life of stock" said he bought his first stock in 1963 because he wanted to prove his Economics teacher at Kings College wrong. The teacher said Nigerians will continue to be poor unless they own shares in the big businesses making money in Nigeria.
Asalu was able to retire in 1972 at the age of 37, by the time he died in 2007 his stock portfolio was about N500 million, not bad for someone who never held a political appointment nor was a successful business man.
The first set of Nigerians to buy shares were corporate executives, Asalu worked with Unilever and RT Briscoe
When Nigeria Brewery, Nestle, Guinness etc had public offers, Nigerians didn't show interest except for the informed few.
In 1976, Obasanjo introduced the indigenization policy which made it compulsory for Nigerian citizens or Nigerian government to own between 40% to 60% of the shares of listed companies.
That was how Nigerians, state government and FGN owned shares in all the companies on the stock exchange from Manufacturers to banks, petroleum marketing.
Unfortunately it was Nigerians from a certain part of the country that were able to harness this opportunity.
What El Rufai did in 2003 was to democratize ownership of the privatized businesses by making sure the shares were bought by all Nigerians
Thanks for this update; highly educating.
But were Nigerians from any other parts of the country prevented from buying the shares in those olden days? I guess it was the educated few, not necessarily people from particular part(s) of the country that bought the shares. Even right now, I think only the enlightened few still have shares in these companies; majority of Nigerians from all parts of the country still do not own shares or any form of securities.
You guys still think a cash-strapped entity like Oando would distribute cash? Any cash payment will be based on the amount of debt ($325m) and exchange rate (N1,500), making N487.5billion, divided by 4.3b shares (to be redistributed) which translates to about N110 per share (if I'm not mistaken). I am hopeful it will be shares redistribution rather than cash. The registrars should have been sending emails requesting for bank accounts of shareholders if cash would be paid.
jonnysessy: There are always ways to move the price of a stock.
People really want to benefit from the share redistribution exercise, which has been guesstimated to be 1 for 2. That should naturally move the price in any market, otherwise nothing else would.
International award winning Musician, Wizkid has visited Senior Musician, K1 De Ultimate Over the recent death of his Mother to condole with him.
This boy called Wizkid is killing himself with drugs! The signs are already showing but people are blind because he seems to have some money to throw around. When his cup gets full.......!
Thanks for always providing us with these updates. Oando seems to be trying to comply with statutory timelines for filing of accounts/returns to SEC/NGX. With this, one should be expecting the audited accounts latest 31-Mar-2025.
unite4real: The third line as cut out below sounds like they are not sure of the meeting holding. Why are they having such a clause.
that a meeting of the Board of Directors of Oando Plc ("the Company" is scheduled to take place on January 30, 2025, or on such earlier or adjourned date as may be determined
That is a normal or standard way in which most legal documents or announcements are drafted. We need to be aware of some of theses things.
LegendHero: Very small, I was even thinking it’s more than 10.
Baba should complete more project and name it after himself. Obi and his supporters will just get more hypertension for that act.
If Bola Tinubu complete more road infrastructure and name it after himself, Obi crying supporters should not drive on it. That’s their own cup of tea.
—God bless President Tinubu —Peter Obi the Agbotikuyo will never be president! —Atiku the shoemaker will never be president!
Senseless talk. Only a clueless, thoughtless president would be naming institutions after himself. Awolowo established so any institutions in the South West. How any did he make after himself ? Ass lickers!
What is strange to me is that there is no mention of the usual ''high'' or ''low'' prices (in the NGX daily market report) for some stocks for some days now, yet millions of units were traded.
Zegra: Life is good for folks that bought fidelity public offer at N9.75 per share
Have those who bought the public offer received their shares from the allotment of newly issued shares? It is still good though that the price has improved, but the real picture will show after the allotment. Fidelity is doing well, and it gives me confidence that FCMB will also rise soonest.
Useless idea! This shows how clueless these people are. Of all tourist attractions that they could think about, it is the worship of idols that they could come up with! S/Africa, Egypt, Kenya, Ghana etc are able to attract tourists without resorting to idol worship!
And why even use the Yoruba word ''Orisa'' if you really want it to attract tourists and people from everywhere, including local Nigerian citizens that hail from other tribes in the country? Instead of reviving tourist and historical sites in places like Badagry, South west, South East, North, the North, Yankari Game Reserve, Obudu Cattle Ranch, Kainji, Lokoja etc. But without electricity, efficient transport and good security, how could these be achieved?

What kind of article or write up is this? What sense does it make to interview first-class graduates and not mention their courses or disciplines
KarlTom: This KON-13 Block had Serinus Energy as the preferred bidder for 55% in January 2024. Today OandO Energy is the designated operator of 45%. The remaining 10% is "still available for award".
What happened between January 2024 and January 2025
Stay tuned...
Could this be the reason or explanation, as contained in the official release?
....''Block KON 13 is strategically located in the prolific Kwanza Onshore Basin which represents significant exploration potential in both pre-salt and post-salt plays, with estimated prospective resources of 770 to 1,100 million barrels of oil. The block has two (2) exploration wells previously drilled to a target depth of 3,000m, with oil and gas observed across various depths. With a 45% participating interest, OER will lead the development of the block as operator, alongside Effimax (30%) and Sonangol (15%) as co-venturers.''
HesInMe: It is beyond perplexing o. The market seems to be telling us that banks can just issue new equity, then -- abracadabra! -- turn around the cash and grow their earnings per share in a few short months.
So why don't they keep issuing new shares in perpetuity?
Some happenings in NGX defy logic! People want to invest their money so that inflation does not wipe off all the value, hence a lot of funds chasing securities, making some equities to be over priced in the market.
What is the EPS? That is the main factor to consider. The market price of the share may not be the company's sole making as market forces may influence it.
guobe: Kids are really differently built humans by God. They just lost a parent and they are still smiling, laughing and playing computer games on phone. While the adults are wailing and rolling on the floor, you see the kids keeping their self busy by playing. It's a different world most kids live in.
If the mother is alive and is the one mourning and crying, the kids would become emotional too and most likely start crying at a point. But if it is the father mourning, most men don't cry openly, hence the kids may not feel or understand the emotional loss and may not cry.
Stop being myopic and shallow in your analysis. Oando is not the only oil and gas company operating in Nigeria. It is not even the company with the largest crude oil volumes. Foreign companies like Shell, Mobil, Chevron, ENI, Total, Seplat etc. are all producing and selling Nigeria's crude oil but you are here shouting Oando just because the CEO is related to Tinubu.
But I will support and agree with you if you accuse Tinubu of mismanaging and destroying the economy of Nigeria and making people to suffer.
This is what the clueless, incompetent Tinubu has caused with is thought-less gragra aggression. The same way he has destroyed Nigeria's economy with poorly-thought policies
zendi: Scroll down the last page. You will see Ositadima's musing about the measuring of d*cks. I was playfully reminding him that we talk stocks here, not pricks.
How? Because a shallow thinker in UK decided to buy those shoes and wrist watch and gave to Kemi? I may not support Kemi's approach but the message about Nigeria Police goes deeper than this useless act of buying shoes and wrist watches. What about those whose lives have been brutally terminated by the Nigerian Police for no just reason? What about those who have been maimed and incapacitated for life for no just cause? What about those who have been incarcerated unjustly? The main issue is for the complete overhaul and turnaround of the Nigerian Police and security of lives and property in Nigeria. It is silly and utterly stupid to think and reduce what Kemi was saying to only the shoes and wrist watches that her brother lost to Nigeria Police.
