Regarding AHEAD ammo.


The AHEAD HE round carries heavy tungsten metal sub projectiles. The round is programmed when leaving the muzzle base of the gun to air burst at a certain point,"throwing" a cloud of spin-stabilized sub-projectiles in the path of CRAM or missile.

This shreds the skin and detonates the warhead of the incoming RAM or missile.

Your argument.

With the above stated. Multiple barrel CIWS(s) like the Goalkeeper and the USA Phalanx are different,cause with multiple barrels this systems can put a lot metal in the air.

But this means they'll have to be carefully guided and fast(automatic),the only disadvantage with these guns is that you've to score direct hits to stop the RAM or Missile. Your guidance must be on point and highly advance.

The AHEAD closes the gap between the number barrels to enable single and twin barrel guns to put more metal in the air. In this case you don't aim for the RAM or missile directly you just throw a "metal cloud" at it.

Un-guided and un-automatic cannons.

A single barrel gun,will have to use fused rounds to air burst,and destroy. If un-automatic it can't really act as an CIWS,as a CIWS will have to be fast to counter the missile which has penetrated the anti-missile shield. Un-automatic might possible in exercises.

The Chinese mostly use the Type 730 and 1130 CIWS(s).

What you must know is that an un-automated,unguided CIWS,that doesn't use radar and fuse munition is just a simple cannon.

As the operator will have to wait to make visual contact before he can engage,meaning a successful interception hinges on good weather and luck.

Not all troops are combat soldiers.

Some serve as nurses,doctors etc in hospitals away from the front lines,also HIV+ soldiers aren't bedridden.

rka1: Pilots and crews have been training since last year and still ongoing, hence able to man current aircrafts arriving aboard cargo transports.

Yes,it will take further training for them to be battle ready. That adds up to like a year with warships.

Our first 6 Gripen pilots were trained in Sweden,but came home to be trained in SAAF standards,Doctrine and tactics for them to be ready.

Other pilots from Gripen user countries were really impressed(during LION effort) by SAAF tactics,like low flying. Only one SA Gripen was downed.

Infantry school then deployment only if healthy,but like women they aren't really used for combat.
