Henry120: Trenches are a defensive position dummy. In an isolated out-post it makes combat sense for the 7-12 soldiers to have a defensive line, if HESCO bags aren't available.

The shelter you ignorant south-african's are laughing at, are the same as the make-shit shelters U.S forces have used widely in afghanistan. It shows the forces would dig in and fight. He's not on a vacation in Calabar or Obudu.

The nigerian military is a highly mobile force, bringing considerable fire-power to bear, with a vast enviable wealth of experience.

Although our military is not a hollywood military, we've managed to see them in their( igirigi's, CV3 Bigfoot, streit MK3's, otokar cobra's) in the photos shared by siriusblack, getting the job done.
Defensive? Looool Go find a book by the man the picture below and read it.

I hate you guys say your military is experienced. In what? Fighting butt nake... cannibal rebels?

It's either your military becomes brutal or just start a secret police unit which will commit the bad deeds like "dealing" with villages whom offer the enemy help etc. To win that war.

Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by MikeZA: 11:49pm On Aug 01, 2014
Henry120: On more than 4 occasions I responded to the multiple lies and misinformation you freely perpetuated on this thread, and in each of them I got hit with a ban.

Instead you to desist, you're back telling more fairy tales.

Nigeria operates sub-saharan Africa's most advanced ISR platform. The Gripen on the other hand is not a surveillance platform. It is a light weight fighter aircraft, which you corrupt government acquired with loans you aren't done paying, a contract that has seen your former president called to defend himself against corruption allegations.

SA(retirement home/limousine service)NDF has no drones in service. Quit posting that image.
The Gripen is multi-role/swing role advanced light jet.

It can perform counter air,strategic strikes,maritime strikes,air defence(both offensive and defensive),ground strikes,reconnaissance,air combat,close air support and more

And yes,the former president was called to testify at the Seriti commission. It is called accountability. And are you saying there's no corruption in Nigerian acquisitions?

Besides SAAF chose the right equipment from the proposed list. You think we would've chose second hand Mirage-2000?

I hate when you behave like you have a walnut size brain like @AugustineAgain.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by MikeZA: 11:33pm On Aug 01, 2014
AugustineAgain: Can your toy Soweto drones fly range 5,000 km distance, fly altitude 10 km high, spy on target with radar 80 km away safe from enemy air defense, carry different types of multi-role ISTAR equipment load of heavy weight 3,000 pounds ?

It will take you 66 years to understand the meaning of ISTAR capability because that is how far your South Africa is crawling like a snail behind Nigeria, 66 years behind us tongue

.
Spy?

You seem to forget what ISTAR really mean.

You're now shifting the argument to payload and endurance. Many ISTAR drones have different payloads for different missions an IR or radar turret can be fitted.

Let's break down ISTAR letter by letter shall we?
1. Intelligence. SAAF JDRP,Litening III pod,Argos 410-Z pod and the Gripen can take pictures, videos etc for intell

2.Surveillance: The Gripen(with onboard radar and pods),A109 helicopter,Vulture UAVS etc can perform this.

3. Target acquisition: The Litening III can designate targets with laser, the Gripen can also do that with radar for the Hawk trainers. The Hawk trainer can armed with radar guided missiles and stand-off munitions.

4. Surveillance: Pods,Caravan,A109,Vulture UAVS can do fill this role.

chris365: mikeZa.. talking gibberish since 5000BC.
Your brain: "I can't counter these facts by Mika..ZA dude, just resort empty claims,jokes......."

Your soldiers are in trenches mate. Trenches in a counter insurgency operations.

A counter insurgency force must be highly mobile, brutal, carry heavy fire power, highly maneuverable not sitting in trenches.

sirjerry: hell,,SAAF has now turn into a force for female models, lol,,imagine a country national airforce.
Ask and you shall receive answers and information.

The pictures were taken at an air show, which we have all the time in South Africa.

The air frames in the picture are retired SAAF aircraft, kept in perfect flying condition by the unoperational wing of SAAF(The SAAF museum).

People can shot videos, take pictures and a lot at SAAF museums. I won't blame you since you don't have such in Nigeria as your retired air frames get destroyed by BH and your retired soldiers start lobby blogs Looool grin grin grin grin grin

Systems like the Cheetah fighter jets,Puma helicopters,Mirage jets,Intercontinental ballistic missile etc are kept in SAAF museums.

AugustineAgain: Bwahahahaha grin grin

Desperado Logumba grin grin

EW, ECM, ECCM and ESM warfare are not the same as ISTAR.

F-7 jet can carry targeting pod, recce pod, EW pod, so does that make it an ISTAR aircraft?

Electronic warfare is one thing, but ISTAR is four things combined. Nigerian ATR-42 is an MPA/electronic/ELINT warfare aircraft 100 times better than South African flying coffin Dakota 1957 ancient cucumber shaped aircraft. Did you ever hear me say ATR-42 is an ISTAR platform? Mumu !

SANDF is 66 years behind Nigeria in ISTAR warfare. Swallow extra humble pie.

#Show Us SAAF ISTAR Aircraft grin grin

.
Are you also gonna say UAVs aren't ISTAR aircraft?

ISTAR: Intelligence, surveillance and target acquisition and reconnaissance.

Drones, jets and many other aircraft can perform that duty.

The Gripen can designate targets, conduct reconnaissance taking videos and pictures and relay them to HQ with data links.

The Gripen can perform almost all the tasks your flying turkey takes.

Here's another ISTAR aircraft from the SANDF.

His mind is still stuck in soviet type of trenches doctrine.

Where else the SANDF focus more on mobility and maneuver.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by MikeZA: 6:43pm On Aug 01, 2014
AugustineAgain: No dummy, that is a Jet Fighter pod, NOT an ISTAR aircraft with powerful electronics loaded outside aircraft, inside cockpit, and inside cargo space cabin all packed full. South Africa has NO single ISTAR aircraft in this world...that's why your air force chief is crying for a chance to buy Nigerian type of Beechcraft ISTAR spy master...SAAF is 66 years behind NAF, and you have no money to buy any ISTAR planes for many years to come grin grin

.
Lmaoooooooooooooo.

ISTAR: Intelligence, surveillance and target acquisition and reconnaissance. You forgot in the process the Oryx EW and Dakota EW which are packed with Saab grinteck advanced EW systems.

Wikipedia description: ISTAR is a practice that LINKS several battlefield functions together to assist a combat force in employing its sensors and managing the information they gather

All SANDF sensors including the Gripen carrying the JDRP or the Litening III Pod and other sensors, aircraft are linked via Link-ZA to the Chaka C2 system at headquarters.

You want more humble sir?

Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by MikeZA:
AugustineAgain: Nigeria has BOTH land based and airborne ISTAR vehicles and aircraft, the most sophisticated in Africa. I won't repeat that our long list again today.

South Africa has ZERO airborne ISTAR capability...SANDF is 66 years behind Nigeria in ISTAR warfare.

Eat the humble pie 3 square meals a day tongue tongue
Oh sorry!!!! I meant three pictures change everything.

1. Litening III pod.
2&3. Carl Zeiss optronics Argos 410-Z.
4 .JDRP

AugustineAgain: With Nigerian F-7NI jet escorts, our Beechcraft 350 are all safe in the air.

We don't even need to fly over SANDF side of battle line, with 80km air to ground spy radar range NAF Beechcraft will be flying safely 40km deep inside Nigerian side of the battlefield and yet it is targeting ALL South African military positions on the other side of the battle line, to direct our artillery fire to wipe out the whole SANDF in one day. tongue tongue

This is why American army and air force ordered more units of Nigeria's Beechcraft 350 type....weapons of the masters.

South Africa is 66 years behind Nigeria in ISTAR warfare tongue tongue

.
11 F-7Ni will conduct 1. Escort for the Alpha jets,Beechcraft etc 2. Counter air 3. High speed reconnaissance 4. Interception 5. Interdiction 6. Strategic strikes( precision) 7. Training 8. Air patrol 9. Air defense etc?

ISTAR? Please post Nigerian equipment that matches the ones in the pics below

patches689: Liar

That link says nothing about the Nigerian military having data links

South Africa has an integrated info centric data link that crosses all arms (navy, airforce and army) - linkza

Which means that the SANDF has, if you will, a hive mind

Nigeria has no major data link
99.9% of Nigerian units, weapons, vehicles, aircraft and vessels have no data link whatsoever

Did you seriously think I would not skim through your link? I know your deceitful tricks
Yep,the reason the was no need to put radar on the Hawk lead in fighter trainer.

Thiza: SANDF THE BEST OF THE BEST IN AFRICA....POSSESS THE MODERN AND SOPHISTICATED MILITARY HARDWARE IN AFRICA. SANDF HAS THE MOST ADVANCE MILITARY COMPLEX IN AFRICA WHICH IS RATED AMONGST THE BEST IN THE WORLD. THE ONLY COUNTRY IN AFRICA THAT HAS DESIGNED, MANUFACTURED AND OPERATED AN ATTACK HELICOPTER WHICH IS AMONGST THE 10 TEN IN THE WORLD.

THE ONLY COUNTRY IN AFRICA WHICH DESIGN, OPERATE THE MOST ADVANCE MISSILE SYSTEM IN AFRICA AND AMONGST THE SOPHISTICATED IN THE WORLD @AUGUSTUS I CAN GO ON AND ON .....SANDF NOT A MILITIA RAG TAG WITH WEAPONS
Beautiful images there mate.

It is such a shame that same don't understand the importance of media to national armed forces and view them as the enemy not allies.

African countries don't have big media outlets or channels like USA,Russia etc or other powerful countries does.

I mean look at American defence shows on channels like discovery, national geog etc. Some military writer would even go as far as saying to penetrate the Abrams MBT one needs a nuclear warhead.

Disastrous military operations like black hawk down and others are switched to reflect to the world a narrative of great heroism. How many shows, ducs were made but the mission to kill Osama?#FreePR.

African armed forces seem paranoid regarding the media. Successful military ops even a bit of biased dosage of news reports rally citizens behind their armies.

If a documentary was made about The battle of Bangui, national pride and appreciation for the Defence force would be unimaginable.

#FreePR

Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by MikeZA:
agaugust: Nope and no ! New uniforms for Nigerian army was not provoked by any SANDF photomania, NA has different reason for changing uniform and may not tell you everything every reason why.

Nigerian army high command reads Beegeagles Blog, and we the approved members of Beegeagle compared Nigerian army uniforms with those of USA/NATO militaries that we train with....not your fvcking South African uniform that will expose your army to the enemy's easy view in a sandy desert like Sahara or Arabia.

SANDF uniform is bad outside your homeland territory, it will expose your position in an all-green swamp or rain forest and in a white sand desert....the whole South African army will get wiped out if you land from sea to white Sand beach....the enemy will see all of you from 3 km away looking like brown skin goats running around in brown uniforms that you think is a camouflage for all types of terrain... Mumus grin

.
Typical.

Uniforms aren't just about camouflage, there are way different factors to consider.

And yes,you compared patterns with those you train with.

In professional armies like the SANDF new uniforms are designed, trailed and tested by scientists to meet vast needs or requirements. Look at the SANDF project African warrior or the USA land warrior, the former is still carrying out tests from investigating height, weight etc of soldiers so webbing and the amount of equipment carried by soldiers isn't gonna be light or too heavy for them to a point that it badly influences soldiers' combat performance, dragging it to the poor side.

patches689: [citation needed]

Nigeria only has 47 Helicopters
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigerian_Air_Force#Aircraft

Many of which are not operational

South Africa has 89 Helicopers - all of which are operational as of today
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_aircraft_of_the_South_African_Air_Force

So... 47 +40 = 87.

You still have 1 less than us... for a military of 130 000

We have a military of 82 000

So, the ratio of helicopters per men is:

SANDF: 921 men per helicopter
Nigerian Disgrace Force: 1 494 men per helicopter.

Conclusion: The PEACTIME SANDF is a more airmobile force than the WARTIME Nigerian Army - and thus is better equipped

The numbers never lie
Oh sorry mate, they lost three helicopters this year. One just last week. So the number goes down to 44. grin grin

verb
think carefully about (something), typically before making a decision.

We dont care about your imaginary dreams.

We care about what you have. And in this instance - dont have

Also, we have over 70 helicopters... how many do you have? For a Army of 70 000... how big is your army? How many operational helicopters do you have?

We have superior rotor transport
We have superior offensive rotor assets

- SANDF is smaller and yet has more Helicopters (i have to spell it out since you seem to be obtuse)

Case closed.
More helicopters are coming.

While some already lost: 3 Mi-24/35 helicopters,1 F-7 jet alone this year.

Who has the strongest military in Africa? Easy guess to make a list of rankings.
His not a soldier. And he was never part of the army.

He was a member of koevoet engaged in fire fights more than 200 times. If you had read more books about COIN ops in Africa it is almost impossible not to came across his name.

Experienced in what? Failing to retake the town of Damboa? The mission in the North is failing. Your president and his military advisors underestimated BH,last year he said after 4 months of state of emergency BH will be destroyed.

We know he had to fire his chiefs of staff,200 girls kidnapped, more than 1000 civilian kills, hundreds of your soldiers killed after 4 months of emergency rule.

If true. We might also see the KDF getting new infantry fighting vehicles.

Also the contract might include bridge layers, recovery vehicles etc.

This leaves the question on whether the KDF is planning to shift towards a NATO logistics system type of trail.
