rka1: South African forces back then are different from what you have today. It isn't just about having the most modern weapons/kit, it is about the person/people behind/wearing the equipment. It other words, how you use it. SANDF officers are bush war veterans from General Shoke to Major Gen Rudman(a well known warrior). The parabats and special forces brothers fought well in CAR without supplies like ammunition. Former SADF officers stand ready to help South Africa, example being the 32 battalion(No Nigerian unit in history come close to this hardcore battalion. The terrible ones the enemy would leave their weapons and run if they heard this unit was advancing) commander who is now battling poachers in Kruger. |

agaugust: show me war history of south african navy moving 15,000 soldiers and heavy equipment to sail across the ocean and fight 4,000 km away from home, show me, thats all i ask...show me now !
. Moving is not fighting. We wanna see combat kills,we judge from what you've done in the battlefield. Your army always rallies on numbers to crush ill supplied, disorganised(communication and command),lacking intelligence rebels. You have never fought under flying jet fighters, with an enemy armed with tanks,APCs,SAM,AA guns and artillery. Your man can't withstand real fire power brought down on them from well trained artillery men. MOVING TROOPS IS A NORMAL THING. SA always crushed enemies with lesser. |

agaugust: in a dogfight air to air, the jet's tech is 30% input, the jets missile is 70% of the final result.
you dont know what it means when an F-7 jet fires several ultra-modern PL-9C missiles against a Gripen, the missile locks on and takes only a few seconds to h.i.t the Gripen jet.
both pilots may have to die that same day !
honestly i cannot predict a winner of a dogfight...only God knows, especially when both pilots are masters of their own jet aircraft.
check war history of air to air missile combats, inferior jets shoot down superior jets once they enter dogfight situation.
lets just face facts and move on.
please dont distract me again this weekend. i am writing my F-7 jet vs Valour frigate simulation...i need to finish it and post tomorrow sunday morning before i got to church.
. Missiles do miss targets. Reasons running from the pilot's manoeuvres, jammers and angles. The Valour class can carry the Oryx helicopter, which can jam your F7's radars. Tech is everything Angolan or Cuban pilots were ill experienced by were serious a threat to SAAF |

agaugust: south african navy and army has never engaged in a large scale marine amphibious warfare operation with 40,000 soldiers and equipment landing inside the death traps of nigerian niger delta mangrove swamps as done by nigerian amry 3rd marine commandoes in Biafra war.
why dont you also come back when south african military has used its navy to move 15,000 soldiers with amoured vehicles and artillery to 2 different countries 4,000km away from homeland to fight against 80,000 enemy forces that have anti-tank guns, anti-aircraft guns, RPG, mortars, light artillery, landmines, and cannibal fighters that eat human beings ?
go kiss your canvas shoes ! dummy ! The Biafra war? War of mercinaries, you didn't even have a air force back then,A war of marching columns? That war was about who can take casualties, putting another soldier at the place of the dead one it wasn't about tactics, communication and command, cooperation(Joint operations). Paying Egyptians to fly sorties for you. You only battled rebels, cannibalism is practised cause of soldiers not receiving supplies. Ever heard about Executive outcomes? That military contractor company, created in South Africa. No Nigerian operation can top the SADF's cassinga raid of joint operations from the Air force's canebera, pums, super frelons,C130s and baccaneer to the army's parabats. Including the army's chief on the ground facilitating such first mission by the SADF. |

agaugust: the 3 F-7 crashed happened at the early stage of purchase when the pilots were training to fly the aircraft. 2 of the crashes are F-7NI Trainer two seater version, only one was F-7NI fighter version and the crash was during landing/take-off drill, not in any combat/ maneuver drills.
since those incidents about 4 years ago, no nigerian F-7 has crashed and they are flying engaged in mali and borno air to ground attacks, nigerian pilots have mastered the F-7 jet.
only God can predict the winner between a Gripen jet and F-7 jet in visual range dogfight combat when they both can see each other by electronic optics and boresight....both jets have air to air missiles of equal power, each nigerian F-7 jet's world class ultra-modern PL-9C air to air costs one million dollars !
its like predicting that an american soldier with M-16 rifle will k.ill a chinese soldier armed with AK-47 rifle when they are face to face in combat on an open field 100 feet apart...just because the american carries an M-16 rifle ? both need to receive only one bullet in the head to die.
use your head to think...no need to borrow mine. Ask SAAF whether you can see the jets or not. If your enemy has superior fighter you won't score any hit. SAAF fired many missiles against the MIG 23 in Angola with no success. Technology can quickly overturn the tables. Why don't you ask your self why many chinese were killed by the USA in Korea, why Saddam ground mechanised forces(tanks) were destroyed by their western counterparts(Abrams and Challenger). Why Cuba or USSR artillery were useless against the enemy's G5 and G6 guns, why the German Tiger tank was feared. Why the B-2 spirit bomber is still the enemy's worst nightmare. |

rka1: The Gripen may have advantages in it's avionics suite, but please the F7 crashes can't be attributed to pilot error. One caught fire during "touch and go" landings, burst into flames killing the pilot.
The second, the pilot ejected due to mechanical failure.
The third, the trainer FT-7, also had mechanical problems when instructor and trainee pilots ejected. This resulted in their grounding. Mechanical problem? That shows that your jets are just crap. This means you can't take them to any full blown war. Pakistan flies F7 but their jets don't "blast into flames". |

agaugust: yes you are right, south africa does NOT have any BVR (Beyond Visual Range) missile because the technical fact is that ant missile with range less than 30km is NOT qualified as BVR.
funny nigeria and south africa both do not have BVR air power....and it means Gripen jet must be very careful facing an F-7 jet since they both have very modern air to air missiles of about equal range, power, technology, etc....and both jets have to come close into dog fight before they can attack each other.
interesting....pilots skill and training will determine the winner. Technologically the Griffin is ahead of the F7. Your air force crushed 3 of their F7 jets that says a lot about your "pilot skill and training". |

drag_on: lol, cover-up "In March this year defence minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula stated that “The South African Air Force (SAAF) has 12 Gripen Fighter Aircraft placed in long-term storage. These aircraft are placed in a storage as a planned activity in line with their utilization and budget expenditure patterns/flow of SAAF.”
However, last month Mapisa-Nqakula said that no Gripens or Hawks were in storage. Bayne said this was because after consulting with Saab, it was decided to rather rotate the aircraft to ensure they all get a chance to fly." How can your Minister of defence get it wrong for months and no-one said a word till now?Except it was true? lol Your government is too embarrassed to admit it.It took them months to refute, because it was true and now they are covering. It is even worse now because they will have to maintain it,and my links show they have no maintenance contracts since april with either denel or saab. why? The mere fact that the want to rotate it through few pilots is indirect proof they were in storage. pure smokescreen. SAAF consulted SAAB about the storage. But it was found that long term storage would cost a lot of money,so they're flown in a cycle. while others are put in some special tents to prevent rusting. |

. Your army never won any war against any country nor battled real soldiers. The SADF met them at the Bridge 14,they were defeated. agaugust: Maybe you are right on some points.
Nigeria and south Africa are good friends but....competition problem is a big issue.
Nigeria is still globally regarded as the giant of Africa.
Why should Nigeria buy weapons from an ambitious 'prince' that is interested in his 'kings' crown ? . South Africa politically is not the USA's ally or enemy. But we still purchase weapons from them,it gets to a point where the best or affordable weapons on the market are from the that country. You're not an enemy or friend. Like when Turkey came back to South Africa to buy that Husky 2G vehicle, which they "abandoned" after politically deciding not to buying the Rooivalk. What I'm trying to say is whether Nigeria hates South Africa or not they will buy SA made weapons. Some might be bought in secret like the MRAP,rumoured Nigeria to have bought. Now follows india, looks like they're looking for more SA made systems by "clearing" Denel from all wrong doing purchaseswww.janes.com/article/27890/india-prepares-to-lift-denel-ban-after-ntw-20-probe-goes-nowhere?from_rss=1 |

. Nigerian systems can be jammed your commander in the field won't receive orders from Abuja or coordinate strikes with jets,South Africa did this before during the bush war. To be precise during the battle of Cassinga. Here's a quote below of SAAF Oryx helicopter fitted for that job. "There is an electronic warfare (STAND-OFF communications jamming/radar jamming) version of the Oryx that is equipped with the Grinaker Systems Technologies (GST) GSY 1501 jamming system, among others. The first Oryx variant with a large log periodic antenna on the starboard side was regarded as quite an effective EW platform. This platform is capable of disrupting key communications during various stages of modern, air-, land-, and sea battles. In addition it is used as an effective training aid to the SANDF, to test their function as an effective fighting force, despite any EW methods employed against the SA Forces. A further advantage is, EW equipment in use by the SA Forces can be effectively evaluated and calibrated under simulated battlefield scenarios. One variant has its main cabin doors replaced by dome shaped antennas." |

agaugust: the technical answers to your foolish day dreaming are very simple.
1. Roland SAM does not operate alone. nigerian army operates air defence regiments. a mixture of Roland, Type 90, Bofors, Multi-barrel Shilka etc
2. Roland optical mode cannot be jammed like a radar can be jammed, go back read the many Roland sources i posted.
3. nigeria has 300 Roland missiles enough to shoot down all 60 south african jets and helicopters 5 times over and over again.
4. Roland does not expose itself to jamming, it operates under nigerian army air defence regiment that has electronic warfare counter measures to prevent jamming, nigeria just modernized all its air defence electronics with Israel and Indian technology last year 2012 ending/completing now 2013.
5. Britain's all powerful Royal Air Force could NOT destroy Argentina's Roland SAM in falkland war, the sources i posted says the British army had to defeat the Argentine army in ground battle and the Roland was captured intact. google it and learn war history.
6. south african slow 900 km/h speed Hawk jets and 300km/h Rooivalk helicopters challenging Roland SAM will be exposed to the 4,000 km/h supersonic speed PL-9 air to air missiles of Nigerian F-7 jets and properly roasted by the nigerian jet fighters.
7. south africa's 26 Gripen jets have ONLY ONE single air to air missile each as at today . south african air to air power is limited to only 25 shots fired in the form of ONLT 25 Iris-T missiles.
8. south africa is NOT a super power and does NOT have the American or NATO air power to carry out a SEAD to neutralize nigerian composite air defence systems.
9. no country has monopoly of jamming, you jam the enemy radars, the enemy too retaliates with anti-jamming devices.
10. stop thinking that the enemy you will fight in war, has his own hands tied to his back and his brain locked up in a box. he will retaliate and counter every attack you make with a counter attack. nigerian generals, admirals, air marshals all have world class multi-national training.
11. Otomat missile has in-built anti-jamming devices and so it escaped all American Navy warships missile and electronic defences to defeat the warships. America is 100 times more powerful than South Africa.
12. Roland SAM war history confirmed it shoots down bombs and all British bombs directed into its area were shot down together with the jet fighter that dropped the bombs.
13. Nigerian Type 90 anti-aircraft guns is also an anti-missile defence system and its ammunition is in thousands, more than enough to shoot down all south african Umbani guided bombs every time. Type 90 ammunition speed is about 4,000 km/h but umbani bomb speed is about 35km/h to 80 km/h. all the slow snail speed Umbani bombs will be shot down by nigerian army and wasted away.
14. Type 90 AAA guns have both radar and optical mode targeting and it operates side by side with Roland SAM as a team in the same nigerian army air defence regiments. both Roland and Type 90 do easily operate well at night with night vision optical sight infra-red targeting of all enemy aircrafts.
15. Umkhonto missile cannot stop Otomat missile that penetrated all American Navy anti-missile defences with 100% victory recorded. Umkhonto missile has NEVER been tested against a sea skimming anti-ship missile, but Otomat has been successfully tested against all jamming and shooting defences of the mighty American Navy and Otomat anti-ship missile defeated all the formidable defences.
16. Umbani bomb is NOT a magical weapon that will behave like a missile, Umabni remains a bomb forever. it is easy to shoot down, and usually they are used to attack stationary targets like roads and buildings. the 35km/h speed is too slow for attacking even a Toyota Camry driving at 100km/h. you need to wake up from your fantasy dreams of miracle and magic.
17. Gripen jet CANNOT carry Umbani, only the Hawk jet can. Gripen carries only Paveway guided bomb and all south africa has is only 50 Paveway bombs purchased from America. Hawk jet is easy to shoot down by deadly air defence systems like that of nigeria.
18. both Roland and Type 90 do easily operate well at night with night vision infra-red optical targeting of all enemy aircraft.
19. you south africans fight war on internet as if it is policemen chasing armed robbers on the streets of soweto. fools !!!
20. nigerian military commanders are all world class and have tactics to neutralize any attack from south africa and use nigerian weapons in the best way to defeat all south african armed forces.
. 1. Your Roland can't track a Rooivalk among trees or buildings(NOE) 2. Without a Radar AA gun crews won't see a smart bomb flying towards them dropped 40km away 3. Smart Bombs are laser guided meaning they can attack moving targets 4. Your Type 90 AA guns have never been tested against a smart bomb 5. Your artillery regiments can destroyed by artillery guided by special forces or Ratels. 6. Nigeria's single warship can be sunk by a torpedo from one of SAN's submarine 7. 2 squadron's sole Cheeter R was developed for recce missions 8. As we today Nigeria's army is failing to protect its citizens and won't go to war. 9. Nigeria going to war would mean it will withdrew its fighter jets from the mission against BH to focus on the well organised enemy. 10. Leaving a security vacuum which BH will easily use against that country 11. Nigeria attacking SA would mean they won't have jets to protect their shore, resulting in all Nigerian ships sunk. 12. You can't claim Nigerian commanders are world, cause non of them have ever been to a war. Non of them have as much combat as the likes of the SANDF deputy chief of the army. 13. Nigeria lacks modern warfare experience, that why a minefield can stop your army. |

nigeria has electronic warfare anti-jamming systems and counter-counter measures, we just upgraded our air defence systems with India and Israel in 2012. the Israeli electronic warfare equipment are in use by nigerian army and air force, the Indian air defence electronics too have been acquired and only the AKASH 35km range SAM anti-aircraft missiles is being expected to be contracted at a later time.
no south african aircraft can jam nigerian radars because we have anti-jamming devices.
also, you cannot jam infra-red optical targeting of roland, it is not radar controlled.
nigeria has more than Roland air defences, we have many hundreds of Bofors AAA, Type 90 AAA, and SAM-7 and BlowPipe SAM missiles.
nigerian air defence is the best in all africa and will even be better when our AKASH missiles arrive from India.
land combat artillery ? nigeria also has APR-40 mobile rocket artillery with range 45km rockets and mobility of the launch vehicle is 75km/h speed on the road to close-in on any enemy artillery with longer range in 15 minutes.
now sharaaap and go to sleep its night time....dummy
. Your argument is all over the place. Lesson here 1. The roland won't track a Rooivalk operating in NOE. 2. The Range of the Umbani PGM is 40km making a Roland a burned roast. 3. Your AA guns will too be roasted from 40km away. After that roast artillery will be called in to finish up mechanised equipment. |

. You will be sad to read this quote below. Which only proves that your Rolands will be a toast. "Wessels says their customer's major requirement is in the PGM arena for bomb kits for the Mk 82 227kg (500lb) bombs. But Umbani can also be made to fit the 113kg (250lb) Mk 81 and 454kg (1000lb) Mk 83 bombs. "In two years' time this could be a bread and butter product," says Wessels. "Our bomb-kit design is an optimal trade-off between performance and affordability plus ease of use. We have matured the technology sufficiently to offer Umbani in its basic configuration to the market at stand-off range up to 40km and with great accuracy." Umbani has been advertised as an all-weather, day and night system and is fitted with a GPS/INS (Global Positioning System - Inertial Navigation System) capability. According to Denel, the system was designed with ease of use in mind and has low maintenance and life-cycle costs." |

Roland SAM infra-red optical targeting system means night optical targeting system. infra-red optical vision means night vision...
"Infrared vision is the capability of biological or artificial systems to detect infrared radiation. The terms thermal vision and thermal imaging,[1][2] are also commonly used in this context since infrared emissions from a body are directly related to their temperature: hotter objects emit more energy in the infrared spectrum than colder ones.
The human body, as well as many moving or static objects of military or civil interest, is normally warmer than the surrounding environment. Since hotter objects emit more infrared energy than colder ones, it is relatively easy to identify them with an infrared detector, day or night.
Hence, the term night vision is also used in the place of "infrared vision", since one of the original purposes in developing this kind of systems was to locate enemy targets at night "

proved from the above, infra-red vision means night vision...means Roland SAM works perfectly at night, fool
. The Rooivalk has Jammers plus flare dispensers to counter infrared homing missiles and operates exclusively at NOE which makes it difficult for radar to track. Nigeria has only 16 launchers meaning your army can't out flank any army. Your rolands will protected a single task force group which will consist of all your tanks, artillery, supply trucks, infantry,APCs and armoured fighting cars. This reveals the weakness I have been talking about,A MINEFIELD. And artillery to totally destroy your forces while still being confused. |

agaugust: ...because your tiny brain is thinking that 150,000 nigerian army with 5,000 armoured vehicles/off road terrain vehicles will all foolishly line up in a straight line in front of south african G6 artillery like a line of ants walking back into their ground hole
that nigerian army will be in formations of about 200 different battalions moving against south africa in many different directions out-flanking your tiny manpower shortage crippled army from north , south, east and west until we en-circle, surround, envelope and finally swallow you up like a swarm of heavily armed honey bees.
go ask Egypt how Israel surrounded and cut off a whole 3rd army of Egypt
go ask America and the whole United Nations armies why they all ran away from China's army trying to encircle them in Korean war
go ask South Africa why your army rushed to peace negotiation table when Cuba almost encircled your useless army at Cuito, why did your G6 artillery 70km unnecessary range not save your useless SADF army from the hands of 40,000 inexperienced youth/conscript Cuban soldiers....nigeria has 150,000 soldiers and 10 times better war experience than tiny Cuba.
nigerian 50 palmaria mobile artillery needs only about 40 minutes drive in and close the range gap completely.
what even makes you think armies of the world are always 70km magical range distant away from each other in a real war ?
were Seleka rebels 70km away from south african army when they dfeated your army in CAR 6 months ago ? fool
no army can see the enemy they want to shell from 70km distance away, but nigerian space spy satellites, spy balloons, and ATR-42 Surveyor surface search aircraft will see ALL south african artillery forces over 100 km away and out-maneuver you completely by sending our infantry and motorized battalions to attack you from the flanks by surprise.
south african army is blind as a bat when they fight....no satellite, no balloon, no ATR-42 Surveyor
dont try use drones because nigerian army Roland SAM, Shilka radar AAA, ans Type 90 AAA in our anti-aircraft battalions will shoot down and waste ALL south african drones in a few minutes.
anyway can you please stop wasting our time on this thread by repeating the same old s.tupid comments and making others have to repeat old replies ? or is your fathers' second wife 'doing you remote brain control'
please shut up mr policeman, go fight armed robbers robbing and r.aping soweto women...fire still burns in soweto even after apartheid
stop wasting our time with silly posts if you are not having m.ental p.roblems upstairs
please do us a favour, stop making us repeat posts. thanks
. Israel learned that there was an "guarded gap" on the Egyptian flanks after the USA flew the blackbird and gave them some intel. Nigeria has that kind of air force?NO. Your Recce mechanised units will be met by superior armoured vehicle. From Rooikats to Ratels www.militaryfactory.com/armor/detail.asp?armor_id=601 |
