PoliticsRe: Nigeria must leave the global economy. by miky(m): 5:11pm On Jul 27, 2012
HNosegbe: Isolationism is a very emotional topic. Politicians use it to sway the minds of electorate all the time. They use rhetoric like "Damn the west"! or "We can take care of ourselves"! Gamal Abdel Nasser did it, Julius Nyerere did it, Sekou Toure did it, Robert Mugabe is doing it. India did it prior to 1991, China did it under Mao.

The truth, however, is that NO ECONOMY HAS EVER PROSPERED BY BEING ISOLATIONIST. Economies prosper when they determine their areas of comparative advantage and convert such into COMPETITVE ADVANTAGE. The British discovered their flair for seafaring and adventure, and thus built a navy that enabled them to dominate the world economy in the 19th century. The United States portrayed itself as a land of opportunity where anyone could fulfil his/her potential, thus they were able to attract the best and brightest minds in the world to build the nation. The Germans cultivated a reputation for efficiency and quality, which has kept German products in high demand throughout the world. The Chinese leveraged off their huge population (and attendant low labour costs) to attract the highest level of FDI in history and build the world's second largest economy. The Indians are building a reputation for excellence in the IT and outsourcing industries. We need to ask ourselves how we can carve out our own niche and prosper based on that.

So please stop with all this isolationist talk. It has been tried before, and it has failed woefully.
how can we develop our niche when there is pressure mainly externally to shrup that development.. thus the gov has to resort to banning, which is as ineffective when the next administration comes in.. obviously nigeria is a very sick country with sick leaders and citizens, but our demise is not so much corruption as it is production.. once we start producing the things we use, eat, you would notice a difference.. then maybe after that we can open up and start sharing more advanced info on technology, medical practices, pharmaceuticals and worth not. its so bad that we import tooth pick to the country..

superior1: Sharaap!!!

PoliticsRe: Nigeria's GDP By Sector - Oil Isn't The Major Source Of Our Income by miky(m): 3:46am On Jul 06, 2012
ballabriggs: This is erroneous.

Crude oil contributes over 70% of Nigeria's foreign exchange. For an import dependent economy, Oil is the life wire of the economy.

Secondly, it is the earnings from oil which drives other activities that form the component of GDP.

Don't be deceived, take away the oil and your economy is doomed.

You can't get the true picture by mere viewing such data without an analysis.
that said take away agriculture and we would be more doomed.. in my opinion no industry should contribute more than 10% for a really diversified economy

HealthRe: Nigeria Has The Highest Sickle Cell Patients In The World! by miky(m): 3:41am On Jun 29, 2012
all4naija: The government needs to start looking for genetically modified drugs for this condition.
hmm except for a bone marrow transplant with some serious high tech stem cell additives, there is no cure in sight!!! even developed countries are hapless,, and i doubt if just a single drug would be the answer... just like cancer you would go through various remedies spanning even months...
HealthRe: Nigeria Has The Highest Sickle Cell Patients In The World! by miky(m): 1:27am On Jun 29, 2012
Equator + premature medical facilities
actually most blacks are heterozygous carriers of the sickle cell gene,, it has nothing to do with facilities...its a mutation that an advantage to malaria, thats why most whites die of malaria in africa "the term white man grave yard" should ring bells, especially for the gulf of guniea when they ran patrol around the slave coast "Nigeria"...however if u happen to be a homozygous, chances are that you would die of sickle cell, its all genes and luck...

PoliticsRe: GEJ Is A Joke & Clueless - Ghanaian Prof. Ayittey by miky(m): 3:43am On Jun 26, 2012
onatisi: you are the bigger fool.why isnt this stupid professor f urs facing his own president who has plunged ghana in historic debt and yet so many fool will be just to willing to pick up their bb and write rubbish about gej.ghana president is worse than gej if u want to doubt me come see what ghana is turning to in just 4 years but do u think ghanians will allow u a nigerian to talk about their country anyhow or their president.it should be worth noting here that the average ghana man thinks a nigerian man is below him and that we are all rogues.i m not saying gej is perfect but certainly not as bad as ppl are painting him on this site
