Are you saying PhD program in OAU is fully funded?
Bros, you want make I laughed cracked my libs. How can it be fully funded when your stupid Bubu has informed you that you always want free education.

What I mean is that completion time for PhD at OAU is timely because of the rigorous aspect of her MSc research components.

MSc is of two kinds but will not be specified on the notification of result or certificate.

Taught and Research MSc.

Unilag, and some other schools operate Taught MSc. Hence, completion is fast. Research MSc takes time anywhere in the world.

why is nobody mentioning OAU undecided
Sincerely OAU MSc is ideal on one ground. If the person wants to pursue PhD and he's sure of acquired PhD grade, then OAU is the place to be.

Why?

Her MSc is a research MSc just like that of UNN?

What's the implication of that?

One might spend time (years) on the programme to understand the rudiment of research.

But the beauty of it is the cost of PhD is paid. While on PhD, three years is guarantee because the person knows what is expected of him.

It might also interest you to know that once you picked UNN PG admission letter for MSc, it is well stated that the programme is for one academic session. Mine had it though I turned down the admission offer.

Well, you've made salient points which I agree with. In UNIUYO, you tend to find younger academics who are not qualified to supervise PG students. Even the older ones with PhDs are overworked and made to take other duties which affect their output. Furthermore, they are not paid for their work. Uniuyo doesn't pay allowances and stipends for PG work, GST work, Continuing Education work, Diploma work, etc. They only pay normal salaries and ignore other tasks that academics engage in. This demotivates the lecturers. I have been teaching and supervising GST for more than 2 years now without a single dime. Same applies for other extra jobs I do here and there. The system is really messed up.

So many departments, like mine, lack manpower and the few around are made to do the job of many. How would they have time for PG Students?

Then unto PG students themselves, many of them are lazy and unserious. They run the programme at their own pace. I find this very disturbing because it shows that the quality of students admitted is reducing by the day.

But even in the midst of all these beleaguering issues, the PG school is very insensitive in its policies. Making things overly difficult for students is not an indicator of good standards. It even makes the programme unattractive to the best brains and they end up admitted mediocre students.

One of my academic mentors here is furious at the PG school because a PhD candidate of his did his external defence last year and he is yet to graduate because of PG school's bureaucracies and vetting policy. Every new Dean of PG school introduces his own form of idiosyncratic difficulties to make the system more cumbersome for students. Do you know that the Dean of PG school reads the theses and dissertations of ALL PG students in the school before they are allowed to bind? Where else does that happen?

I pray for things to change here. Not for me but for the future generation of scholars and for the public image of the university. Many of these schools need to learn how other varsities across the world run their programmes with ease. Student friendly policies are a must for all universities that want to attract the best. Uniuyo just makes policies arbitrarily without thinking of the ripple effects they'll have on students.

It is well!
Bro, I quite share your Thesis. Let me further add that you shouldn't expect much from students over there. The reason is not far-fetched. Our people out there are more interested in politics which seems to them as oil company. And at the same time, they want to acquire all the academic qualifications to raised shoulders in community gathering.

Like you said, academics over there are not helping matters. Some of them if not most will expect some "grease" from postgraduate students which isn't supposed to be. I have worked with supervisors that you dare not buy them a bottle of coke. And in the midst of that, they source for important material for me. That's mentorship. And sometimes give me money that runs into hundred of thousands.

Like you said, PG supervision at Ui comes with stipend. It is sympathetic that one can be teaching GST without being paid. That's absurd. At Ui, most PhD students do not even want to engaged lecturing DLC programme which they are entitled to #50k monthly. I personally was what will I do with such amount of stipend.

What surprises me more is the fact that many academics at Uniuyo have acquired at least MSc at Ui. Yet, they refused to emulate the practise there.

Would you recommend UI for M.Sc?
For sure if the person has the money to pay for increased school fee of about #120k on the average per session and the new accommodation fee of #75k for two man hall of residence. However, I will not recommend MSc Economics to my enemy. That's if I have one. That's the only department at Ui that accepts a min of 2.1 for MSc but getting her PhD grade is like hell on earth.

Best of luck.

Uniuyo operates on another level entirely. Never before have I seen a PG school that actively tries to keep students boxed in the system, even after they managed to escape their departments. It's true that many departments are also understaffed. The VC has not done any official employment since he came in.

After struggling to do external defence at UNIUYO, the PG school will start their issues with preliminary vetting by the secretary to the Dean and after her "wahala", there is the official first vetting which takes as long as 6months in some cases. After first vetting, there is a second vetting of similar lengths and only after that will the student be allowed to bind their works for final submission.

Just tell me which other school in Nigeria or even in the world at large does this.
Bro, I am not arguing with you. There are reasons to this. For instance, you can't expect Uniuyo to be as fast as some universities such as Ui, Unilag, Unilorin, OAU and the likes. The question should be why? You have pointed out inadequacy of teaching staff at Uniuyo. Of a truth, if Uniuyo decides to employ today, what you will see on advert will be high level manpower such as professor, reader, and senior lecturer. But in her closet, nepotism in employment of BSc holders even when she has qualified PhD holders will be the order of the day.

What's the consequence? Before an academic can supervise MSc Thesis, he/she must have attained L1 position. So why won't MSc be delayed in such schools where academics of L1 above will be made to supervise so many students? In Ui for instance, you will never see BSc given appointment as academic even if the person came out top in the world. And hardly will you see MSc as academic in the system except few departments like Theatre Arts. In fact, 97% of departments in Ui employ PhD holders into academic positions. Hence, few supervision for each academic from L1 to Prof.

And when it comes to external defence, the Prof that is coming from another school has little or no work to do given that he's convinced that the manpower at Ui are tested and worthy.

Let me shock you a little. The dreaded Prof Akpan Ekpo, a one time VC of Uniuyo was at Ui for PhD external defence. Considering the PhD supervisor of the student and the host institution, it was rather a ceremony for merriment.

These brainless senators still think OMO Agege acted Alone grin grin

Any further action by Saraki and his gang, to supress dissenting voices in the Senate will lead to a total change of leadership in the Senate.

The executive has been pushed to the wall. There is a limit one can tolerate injustice, and this time around Saraki has played into their hands.

Omo Agege will continue to sit in the chamber during plenary, while his support base grows within and outside the Senate. No police officer will take order from Saraki to eject him out, rather many members will turn against Saraki and ease him off the seat.

Simple well planned Coup.
My brother, your analysis can't hold water any day. Where's the injustice in suspending an erring Senator? The executive interference in legislative proceedings will forever remain null and void. It is unfortunate that Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege has allowed himself to be used as a scape goat. The Northerners understand the game more than he does.

They know when to retreat and surrender. He thinks the hallowed red chamber is Warri. I can assure you that he won't witness any proceeding in the 8th Assembly again. Have you forgotten the case of the house of rep member who's still at UK?

Why will you say such a thing; Saraki will be ease off his seat as Senate president when Jagaban and President Bubu couldn't do this when some of you were wailing that he won't be on the seat for two weeks. He has spent three years so far and about completing it and if not interested in the presidency, he will hold it for another four years. Bro, please wake up. From your statement, I know you are one of Bubu supporters. The Senate is beyond Bubu and Jagaban. APC is divided to the core. The Senate is doing a good work of check and balances otherwise Bubu would have used Nigerians as tissue paper.

Bro, I am also saying it authoritatively. Since you are at Uniuyo, i can give you the guy's contact given that he lectures in one of the departments there. You can ask him what's the secret. He holds BSc First Class (Uyo), MSc PhD Grade (Ibadan), PhD (Uyo)

For most universities especially at South East and South South unlike what is obtainable at South West, MSc and PhD completion is based on individual student's input. Hence, while some students can finished MSc in one year, some are likely to finished in five years.

I could remember completing mine in less than 18 months but somehow was disappointed when the department said our results cannot be forwarded to PG school because we are few. Hence, we should patiently wait for our colleagues which we did as brotherhood.

Those schools will keep you there as if you are a secondary school student. Only a few students break the tradition and graduate in 2 or 3 years. Others finish as from 4 years and above for Masters.

When you are even done, the PG school will delay you for another 6months + in the name of vetting (uniuyo). Its a terrible situation. There's even an article by a current student on it. Just Google "the woes of uniuyo PG students".
This is not true. I have a colleague at MSc level who proceeded to Uniuyo for PhD. He spent three years on the dot. Those of us at Ui were like wow. I also have friends during MSc at Ui who were during MSc at Zoology and MCB. They both proceeded to Unical to do their PhD. To them, they can't do their PhD at Ui because of the insults PG students earned. They both spent three years in PhD. One of them has been absorbed by Unical as lecturer.

MSc at Ui depending on the student's ability is 18 months. The beauty of it is that the last semester, a student pays about half of the fee paid in the first year. However, with the current trend of fee increase by the University management which post graduate students are more affected, undergraduate students are likely to protest. The consequence should be imagined.

EducationRe: 7 Reasons Why Polytechnic Students Are Rated 2nd Class Student. by Mires: 7:18pm On Apr 19, 2018
To be very candid, the problem with equalization of BSc and HND in Nigeria is borned out of poor policy formulation.

Like the writer pointed out, how could NBTE allowed HND and BSc holders to lecture ND and HND respectively, while to NUC, MSc holder employed in the university is not a lecturer until he/she acquires PhD.

If the truth must be told, about 70% if not 80% of so called "lecturers" in polytechnics in Nigeria has BSc as academic qualification while less than 3% have PhD.

Permit me to say that until one has undergone rigorous academic exercises, one might hardly appreciates hard work in academics. Hence, the proliferation of what I called "nonsense" in polytechnics orchestrated by the people I choose to call teachers rather than lecturers. Till date, the level of sorting in an average polytechnic is alarming. Sexual harassment is more like a norm. Gangsterism is the order of the day. Personally, I see polytechnic as a vine without a vine yard. I know for sure, there are exceptional students from the vine, but I have a biased mind to products from the vine.

A very disheartening and biased submission. Can somebody educate this fellow that his/her analysis is myopic and selfish. Before I am misconstrued, i am not a health worker and will never desire to be one. How can a sane person begin to compare the salary of a Canadian Dr to that of a Nigerian Dr? Can the fellow also compare service delivery of both Drs in public hospitals? Am sorry to say that an average Nigerian Dr from Junior Registrar to Chief Consultant is not passionate about lives. Better still, is not bothered about saving lives but particular of earnings.

It's even more worrisome to observe that some medical Drs hide on the premise of team or unit to be earning monthly salaries without any contribution during ward round. I am talking from experience. Is it the one that some so called Senior registrar will recommend drugs that have no impact on diagnoses. In this regard, I have met some nurse who are more informative than our so called Nigerian Drs whose pride and ego will not allow them to learn.

Finally, these ego inflated guys hardly see other health workers as team mates. They try to lord over other health workers as if those ones didn't acquire any form of formal education. They hardly want to know that each profession in health sector has its own relevance. And doesn't require interference by medical Drs.
RomanceRe: Layefa Beauty: I Was Sexually Harassed By A Lecturer, A Reverend (Video) by Mires:
Very incoherent submission. This lady needs to be educated that she can still petition the said lecturer given her claims of not being brave then. For her record, if she was in the university within the last couple of five years or thereabout, then her answer booklets should be intact as stipulated by NUC. To that effect, her answer booklets can be presented as evidence to get the man "nailed".

There's this saying in my place that when a finger touches palm oil, it is likely to spread to all fingers. The general public should also note that there are several decent male lecturers in public universities who strongly promote the three cardinal responsibilities expected of an academic; teaching, research and community service. I have being privilege to meet a lot of them. Hence, it pains me as a person and not as academic when people or ladies in particular claim as if all male lecturers are sexual " predators ".

As much as I am not in support of any male lecturer who harassed a female student sexually in return for marks especially the married, I want to categorically say the Nigerian Senate was wrong to have come up with the bill of five years criminal charge on lecturers for sexual harassment given that the bill itself needed to have cut across all sectors of the Nigerian economy including the red and green chambers. Sexual harassment is not sector driven. It is even prevalent at household level and amongst Nigerian politicians.

In which sector of our economy are female both single and married not sexually harassed daily? Someone should show me one. Not even in the church, mosque or shrine of traditional worshippers.

Several advise have been given to you. I wish I am in Ui at the moment, I would have made myself available to talk to you in person. However, of a truth, psychology isn't a bad course. Several years ago, I was offered the course in one of the federal Universities in Nigeria when I couldn't secure admission to study my desired course having scored 204 in JAMB. I actually turned it down and people around me were like why. The reason wasn't far-fetched. It was tied to the fact that I needed to study what I desired. And years after I was glad that I didn't rush to accept any course not even after scoring 250 in JAMB the subsequent year.

To be candid with you, in today's Nigeria, course of study is immaterial. I would have also said that class of graduation is immaterial. However, why I reserve some comment, concentrate on your study and try to make a minimum of 2.1. If age is on your side after graduation, you are in a path way to secure white collar job in well established organizations such as KPMG, financial institutions, etc.

Above all, course of study doesn't determines wealth. It's all about grace. I personally don't want to mention my discipline but have seen several 2.1 holders and MSc in the field with good results that are unemployed. It's a discipline that 100% of people will say "yes". Pray to God to blessed the works of your hands.

The cabal can take it upon itself to deal decisively with the young girl if she comes out to make a formal submission of what transpired given that the law requires the prosecutor to make a formal submission against the defensed.

In the case of the issue at hand, the Executive have outlined where it conflicted with the provisions of the constitution regarding the powers of the INEC, if the National disagree, it is left for them or any interested member of the public to approach the court. But if they go ahead to over ride the president, the Executive will approach the court for interpretation...and any case before the court cannot be acted upon until the courts ruled up to the Supreme Court.
