Omooba77:It's not going to go away overnight, but it's solvable. |
ProfAmaben:I understand you clearly. How did you come about such statistics, do you have any reference? You should know better than just making up stats. You see why I say it's prejudice? Is every one a criminal that wears a tattoo? Do you have the numbers or are you recalling from your experience? You experience is not an objective picture of the world or Nigeria for that matter. What happens to those who have turned a new leaf, are they damned for life? What happens to the Presumption of Innocence, should we throw that out the window too? My problem is that people act like it's normal and even give "tips" on how to "stay safe". It's all band-aids and whitewashing, because you haven't been affected today doesn't mean your safe. I've never been harassed by SARS or FSARS but I do not claim that my appearance or status has been my saving grace. The only time I came close to being harassed by a police officer was when I was stopped at a checkpoint on my way home. I stood up to this guy because I had nothing to be afraid off, he expected me to cower and bribe him. My papers were intact and there was no reason for him keeping me there. He threatened to shoot, I dared him to. He then threatened to take me to their station, I told him I wasn't going anywhere and he had no right to force me. When a bystanders intervened, I heard him make side remarks -- "see this small boy, you think say I no get car...". The only reason I refrained from engaging him further was because I could perceive the strong smell of alcohol on him and I had kids in the car. I've never begged or bribed any uniformed agent. I know my rights -- even if I'm wrong, you can't harass me. You have no right, not on God's green earth. And if I have to die protecting that right, it's better than living like a coward. |
ProfAmaben:This logic is flawed and morally bankrupt. I'm surprised that an "educated achiever" can think this way. I've found that this habit of rationalizing crimes common amongst Nigerians -- a lady gets raped (oh, she dressed inappropriately or she was dating two friends or she wasn't supposed to be out at that time), someone gets harassed ("he deserved it, look how he's dressed" .It's embarrassing that you all have to pontificate your prejudiced thoughts and think it's supposed to be the norm. We have no hope in this country because people still think like this and not only think but say these things out loud and rationalize them, so it has become our reality and will remain status quo. You sir, are part of the problem you claim to prefer a solution to |
ARCHEMEDESME:Computer Science is as much about computers as Geography is about telescopes. Anybody can code but few can solve the hard problems of Computer Science.(e.g. problems in computational complexity -- P=NP, etc) |

autologic:Thanks. Problem solved. I revved the engine a bit and drove the car around. AutoMoTech advised that I do that. |
Good morning house, My 08/09 Camry starts and stalls after some 5 seconds. I changed the battery earlier today, that's when the problem started. |
festacman:I think it's pretty late for Nigeria, it's downhill from here. We can't compete, not on a global scale (with China, Japan, US?). The only thing we had going for ourselves was oil and even that we messed up. We couldn't even build infrastructure to unlock the potential that our oil had. The proceeds have largely been squandered or looted. You have a workforce that isn't highly skilled, epileptic power supply. No matter which way you look at it, it's very depressing. You fail to see that while the US has a "heavy cost burden", it's mode of governance is orders of magnitude more effective than the Nigerian copy will ever be. Why is that? Because it's been tried and tested to work for them. While US is considered the melting pot of the world, her people are homogeneous in their sense of patriotism and social welfare. The Nigerian government in itself is just an institutionalized extortion machine. |
There's something unsettling about this, why does his race have to matter. I feel this tension in racial relations will never end until they see beyond the color of one's skin. I really don't see this as progress. If his qualities or professional pedigree were at least highlighted. |

LastProphet:His death is not a minus, Ravi always talked about death and suffering in his messages. Right from when God met him on the verge of suicide to his struggles with his health. Every Christian looks forward to the day they would meet their maker and those words, "Well done good and faithful servant..." will be their welcome. |

oga 3RNEST, please would you do the favor of being an escrow for this deal with Kimply |
BigTableShaker:It's just the pressure of demand and supply. The CBN sets the rate and are supposed to supply the BDCs with enough fx, but if they can't keep up with the demand the prices go up. So the scarcer fx gets, the more you'll have to pay for it. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that our earnings in $ has gone down and we import almost everything, everybody dey rush dollar. |
BigTableShaker:Yes, That is the official exchange rate, but you don't have access to that rate. The CBN has about 2-3 fx windows. the 361/$ is basically the rate for export i.e crude, etc. The current rate set for BDCs is 380, but good luck finding it at that rate.
|
BigTableShaker:That's the rate set by CBN for their fx window. You can't get it at that rate. Contact your local bdc |

Please is it normal for it to take days before my shares reflect on the CSCS portal. I usually notice a day's delay but it's been at least 3 working days and the shares I bought on the 30th, May haven't reflected on their portal but it shows on my brokerage account. |
salam8528:Don't write what you don't know. Their stimulus is tax free. |
abuhusna1:I would advise that you open an account with one of the Nigerian stockbroking firms, I use Morgan Capital bit there are others. It'll save you a lot of headaches. I used Chaka and the app leaves much to be desired. Although they open a CSCS account and handle your dividend payments (I think), their charges are quite on the high side - most especially if you're buying by limit as opposed to market order. USD direct deposit takes 1 day and you can't withdraw your funds immediately after selling (both foreign and local stocks). These are the quirks I've observed. I might try the others and write a comprehensive review in future. |
Evening house. Please does GTB charge for intra-bank transfer to dorm accounts? I want to load my Chaka account but their conversion rate is not favorable. Also I saw some recommendation for Everdon BDC, please who has used them here and what are their charges like. |
tuzle:You can only push a person for so long. Realize that for some, this is how they survive - your stay at home is essentially a death sentence to those people. The way I see it, they have nothing to lose: they don't go out, they die. |
The case of the missing rice |
Mindfuck. I just lost some IQ points for reading this. |
Some of these comments... Great article, the author wasn't writing against Kyari, rather he was writing against a attitude that we are all guilty of. A typical Nigerian wouldn't stand for what is right if it would adversely affect them. Maybe because we don't care, but mostly because of fear - fear to lose a job or other benefits. |
