Education › Re: I Regret Going To The University by Miyachi: 8:55am On Dec 31, 2020 |
Biggie225: The education system, that is supposed to teach young people fundamental facts and skills in order to allow them to deal properly with reality, is unfortunately also heavily used to indoctrinate the young to be passive, to not question authority, and to trust the government and their experts on TV without question.
The education system is often used as a filter to weed out the free-thinkers, rebels, “unconventionals” and promote the passive, conventional and compliant ones to the next level.
Students are compelled to believe everything the teacher says, without verification. The words of the education system became the guiding truth for youngsters. Usually, schools have unwritten rules regarding specific subjects that cannot be discussed. Some topics are illogically labeled as vulgar or foolish, and those who have interest in those subjects are often publicly ridiculed.
They condition student to believe that failure to submit to the system will have serious consequences. No employment, poverty, and no future.
Also, the quality of education that is available to the lower social classes is reduced most of the time, which contributes to a gradual increase in the gap that exists between lower classes and the elite.
Like Most popular and wealthy figures such as Zukerberg, Jark Dorsey, Bezos, C Ronaldo, Messi, Micheal Jordan, Michael Jackson, and Maradona etc. Non of these figures can boast of university degree but they had the courage to pursue their path to greatness with their natural instinct. Today all are legends in their own path. Education is overrated
Ever since realize that life has no central formular or rules. I created the life I want and with apologies.
Bleep the world and Discover yourself. Education isn't overrated, it is the bedrock of every modern society. I understand your misgivings about institutionalized education in Nigeria, we've got it wrong - as we do almost every idea we copy. Education in Nigerian institutions measures just how well you can regurgitate and conform. Education should be interactive and interesting with its chief aim being actionable knowledge, not just facts crammed into ones head. |

bigtt76: Exactly but a bad policy.
1. It's recognizing the black market and legit helping to channel forex there.
2. The black market would get saturated at a point in time because no business man or woman would go there to source forex for business and the black marketers would not sell to the banks at the CBN rate
3. Naira in circulation would be mopped up at a point in time resulting in the dollarization of the economy (no one would want tk be paid in naira)
4. At the end of the day, beneficiaries would have no option but to exchange with the banks or hoard in their domiciliary accounts. I beg to differ with your points. Remitting in Naira was causing undue strain on the local currency. BDCs are known to create artificial scarcity of the dollar. When you have too much Naira chasing the Dollar it is bound to become expensive, but when you open the gates and led the dollars flood in it creates a more free forex market. There's a possibility of closing the gap in the different exchange windows (CBN and black market), all things being equal. I think that was the intention. |

It remains for us to tell ourselves the truth. I know it might not be easy for Bdemix, but he has to refund Harryfrosh or reach a settlement plan with him. Omic and Bdemix also need to reach an agreement on how to share the loss. All this 2k or 4k or home delivery issue shouldn't be the case now, that one has passed. |
Technology Market › Re: Note 20 Ultra Lost by Miyachi: 5:12am On Dec 17, 2020*. Modified: 10:36am On Dec 17, 2020 |
All this talk is getting this case nowhere.
It doesn't matter how much the buyer did or did not pay for the waybill, he didn't receive the item so a refund is due to him. I would personally advice you take the matter to court if no settlement plan is reached, the contract was the delivery of goods and there was a breach. That way you have legal backing. Forget all those advising "bring police", "bring soldier", you don't know who they also know and you'll just end up spending your time and money.
I know it sounds heartless, but the fulfillment agent (which is the driver ) is ultimately liable for the loss. You aren't responsible for getting him to pay up, that's Omic's job. He has agreed to provide a service so he bears the total risk.
Harryfrosh, you don't have issues with Omic, yours is with the seller.
All these talk about what should or shouldn't have been is bygone.
I think to limit your liability as a seller, please kindly state the risks involved in the type of courier service you choose to use. If the customer accepts it, fine.
Edit: I could remember when Mikky had issues with some people's items and he had to give them a refund. I don't see how this case is different, home delivery or not. |

Health › Pfizer's COVID-19 Vaccine Data Stolen In Europe by Miyachi(op): 12:09pm On Dec 10, 2020 |
LONDON (Reuters) - U.S. drugmaker Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech said on Wednesday that documents related to development of their COVID-19 vaccine had been “unlawfully accessed” in a cyberattack on Europe’s medicines regulator.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA), which assesses medicines and vaccines for the European Union, said hours earlier it had been targeted in a cyberattack . It gave no further details.
Pfizer and BioNTech said they did not believe any personal data of trial participants had been compromised and EMA “has assured us that the cyber attack will have no impact on the timeline for its review.”
It was not immediately clear when or how the attack took place, who was responsible or what other information may have been compromised.
The two companies said they had been informed by the EMA “that the agency has been subject to a cyber attack and that some documents relating to the regulatory submission for Pfizer and BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine candidate” had been viewed.
Such documents could be extremely valuable to other countries and companies rushing to develop vaccines, experts said.
“When it comes to the data submitted to these kinds of regulatory bodies, we are talking confidential information about the vaccine and its mechanism of action, its efficiency, its risks & known possible side effects and any unique aspects such as handling guidelines,” said Marc Rogers, founder of a volunteer group fighting Covid-related breaches, CTI-League. “It also provides detailed information on other parties involved in the supply and distribution of the vaccine and potentially significantly increases the attack surface for the vaccine,” adding more ways the formulas or production could be hacked or stolen.
The companies said “no BioNTech or Pfizer systems have been breached in connection with this incident and we are unaware that any study participants have been identified through the data being accessed.”
A spokeswoman for BioNTech declined further comment. Pfizer did not respond to a request for further comment.
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is a top contender in the global race to beat back COVID-19. It is already being administered in Britain. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-ema-cyber/hackers-steal-pfizer-biontech-covid-19-vaccine-data-in-europe-companies-say-idUSKBN28J2Q7

Mustiboy: Compared to last generation consoles, how powerful are they?
Smartphone processors keep getting better with new releases, but we are yet to know how powerful they really are without demanding games to push them to the limits.
Atheistandproud, I presume you're adept with smartphone CPU and GPUs. Can you say they are as powerful as what is on the last two generation consoles, Xbox 360 and PS3?
Can games for these two consoles be ported to mobile and the likes of SD865 and Bionic A14 will handle them seamlessly?
What's your take? That's like comparing apples to oranges. ARM-based processors were specifically created to tend to the low-powered market - embeded devices, smartphones and ultraportables. Comparing a PS4/XBox to Apple Silicon or even Snapdragon is going to be hard. What benchmark are you going to use. Also note that a supercomputer was once built with a cluster of PS3s (or is it PS4s). Same was done with arm-based Raspberry Pis, so for certain tasks you could create a benchmark. The last point I'll make is that your smartphone processors are general purpose computers while this console processors are built with one thing in mind - to maximize performance in single-precision instructions mainly used in graphics computing. |

sarutobi: Reduce cost by using AWS Is this a joke?
Decoupled architecture? Why? There must be a reason to go that far.
Nairaland is a simple app. Its does not need to have the frontend and backend hosted separately. A good dedicated server should handle the load well.
You can use the new buzzwords like angular, vue, nodejs etc to bamboozle the client and win customers but simple plain PHP/Python/Ruby with vanilla javascript will be more than enough to produce nairaland in record time.
I consider the owner of Nairaland to be very smart. this is why nairaland does exactly what it needs to do. Nothing more, nothing less. Just my thought. I think all these ideas are a bit overkill. The one I don't even understand is NoSQL as DB of choice. I'll go with Postgres. Any backend language will do (PHP, Go, Python, etc). I have a bias against the bloated nature of Nodejs apps - I wouldn't touch anything Js for backend with a 10-foot pole. Decoupled architecture? I'd prefer a monolith app, I'm not Amazon or Google. I think what needs a lot of change though isn't so much the technologies used but how NL works. I will chose to rank topics based on interest (upvotes?), comments too. A different frontend and backend will be the way to go if you would want to make it easier to develop for different platforms. I will rightfully make the backend RESTful. I'd prefer to rent a server than use AWS or Google, I think it'll be cheaper. KVM enabled virtualization, run everything on Docker. |
