kinguwem: The primary role of the church is to save souls & instill moral values in her members. If religious leaders do not get it right, then we should not expect much from their flock. Wealth acquisation is a cancer that is destroying the church. The nation cannot fight corruption when religious bodies don't rebuke corrupt persons and indulge in the same practice. The love of money is the root of all evil.
But not limited to saving souls ! The primary role of Jesus was to come die for man kind but it did not stop there as he was busy going around doing good ! Healing the lepers, raising the dead and also teaching men who follow him how to be good fishers of men. The love of money is the root of all evil. The bible never said money is evil ! God gave his children power to make wealth and christ said we should learn to manage this wealth we have made for the true heavenly riches to be committed into our hands. If as a child of God,i desire the good things of life, are pastors not also the children of God ?The kingdom of God comes with all these but if you choose to be limited, you can be limited after all wealth will not take you to heaven NEITHER WILL POVERTY TAKE YOU TO HEAVEN !If you follow these men of God you will observe that they dnt condone corrupt practices but you now see them as corrupt people becos they ride on cars and fly as well.I think if your father owns a jet you will be happy. But i will only be sad if my father owns a jet, appears on FORBES LIST AS THE RICHEST MAN IN THE WORLD BUT DOES NOT HAVE JESUS ! If these men got Jesus, why do you now criticise them ?
Bro,they didn't steal from you and please dnt judge them just becos your church is yet to show you in the scriptures how you can receive from God ! The church AND THE men OF GOD gives nothing ! It is the WORD of God that gives all ! Any teaching that isn't scriptural is not from God.These men jst took something from the devil BY SHOWING US SCRIPTURALLY HOW gOD GIVES. bUT THE DEVIL ONLY WANT PPLE TO COME TO HIM SO HE CAN GIVE THEM THE LOOK ALIKE OF wealth but not the true riches and wealth from God !
Allow God to judge them bro !
You dont know what i am like so you cant say you were like me before in 2008 ... You dingbat
Your pastors are busy lavishing your hard earned money on jets, armani suits, mansions in Beverley Hills and cruising around in a fleet of luxury cars
You are busy propagating nonsense on the internet forum, from an internet cafe where you just dropped you last 10naira.... wake up and dont be a moro.n ...
You can make a difference by stopping the rot going on ... the trend whereby pastors and fake men of God decieve you and your ilks in order to live the high life on your money!
Mumu
The reason i said i was like you before 2008 was that i use almost all the words you put up here:
1-You dingbat
2-You are here propagating nonsense
3-wake up and don't be a slowpoke
4-mumu
I wasn't a christian though born into a christian home and i love the above coments so much and some other anyway.
But what i'm saying is i now have jesus that even if i want to correct you,i do it with love.

Comming to the fake pastors, this is the word of Christ:

''For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; in so much that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.Behold, I have told you before.''
He(christ)said it will happen and there is nothing we can do to stop that one. This isn't politics or economics ! All you HAVE TO DO if you are one of the very elect is to be alert and careful and hold firmly that which you know concerning God and his word. This was the exact word of christ concerning those who have some and those who have much and those who do not have much:''For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath''-Mathew 25:29.Christ want us to grow by all possible means that does not contradict HIS word before HIS second comming.Christ never asked us to abuse or curse them when they come.
The Op if you ask me,may not be a true christian or he may still be but may not have understood what all these messages are all about. It's just like saying as a christian alchohol is sinful and becos i dnt take it and other christians do,then i will say let's kill them, let's stop going to church or let's start to insult them so that they will change !
How do you stop the word of God you mistake to be rot ? It's not just possible becos the word of God isn't a system like the earthly system of Government ! At the end of the day, some people will drop their faith, start staying at home or even stop studying the word of God owing to the fact that some kind of journalist attacked the church or the word of God.At who's detriment would they be forsaking God and HIS word ? theirs ofcourse !
For the OP,he is like some of us on Naira land.Any biblical teaching we do not understand and follow,we tend to hate even the people that follows it.
If you tell me to do something outside the scriptures,i will not do it.Even if i see or hear 'these men of God'say things that contradicts the word of God,by the special grace of God i can discern and distant myself from them and their words.
But by the special grace of God,there are genuine men of God. As we have an original dollar bill,so do we have a fake dollar bill ! For the fact that we have fake does not mean there are no originals !
The only way you can identify them is by you studying and meditating on the word of God and pray for the spirit of discernment.
Bro,if i have offended you as a result of my stand, pls forgive me !

Interesting

He was accused of wining and dining with tax collectors yet he did not receive Golden chariots from same people. Neither did he encourage the Romans to continue to enslave the jews
No one is enslaving any one here.See,with christianity, there is joy and liberty. Any one who enslaves the other, isn't practicing Christianity but may be some kind of traditions or culture.Have you wondered why christ said ''i stand at the door and KNOCK,if you open i will come in'' You are free with christianity so long as you do not contradict the word of God !
Christ came just to die for you and me ! There are things christ might do but may not take it serious because he came for a particular purpose !

Please who is saying they are all stealing ?The bible said we should obey the word of God.The man of God opened my eyes to understand how to give to the poor,God,man and the church her self.Or, i studied my bible and with the help of the holy spirit i got a revelation regarding how to give or sow,i obeyed the word of God,and ''gave GOD'' the same money he blessed me with and you say the pastor was the one who stole the money from me.Yet i did not see anything contrary to the word of God as preached by the pastor,it was not the quran that the pastor used in his preaching,it was still d same bible i have bin reading, no form of deception at least to d best of my knowledge,i did not part with my money at gun point,it was not as if the pastor lied to me,all the things the bible said i should do that if i do them i will get this and that positive results and i have bin seeing all those things. But even if am yet to see them, was it not by faith i did them ? Or have i seen Jesus before ? Was i there when he was crucified ? But becos it is written that's why am doing them my brother. Even if i give to these pastors to help me give to God or i give expecting that God will come pick it up,if the pastors fail to give it to God or stops God from picking up my offering, how does that concerns me ? jites: The funniest thing with allthese stories and opinion ( expressed harshly) is that even in Jesus' day he was accused of worst, called an anti christ. Can you believe ithuh?? CHRIST himself being called anti christ, if you were a follower of Jesus how would you feel. I am very open minded and would never let anyone brain wash me, fortunately i happen to be in London in winner-chapel when the journalist was in church, now i heard every thing the pastor said word for word, and to be honest the journalist misinterpreted, misquoted every single word that was said that day. When i read it i was disgusted, now if you are going to report about things then report it truthfully, but again, i think the problem was mainly the journalist is not a christain and would have interpreted a lot of what was said literally. For instance, in that service that day the pastor- David Oyedepo Junior said paraphrased " we need to envangelise, win souls for christ, and dont say you are too busy because in your place of work there is someone hurting, there is someone contemplating suicide, speak to them let them know there is hope in Jesus etc And what happens the journalist wrote to say the pastor told the members to go and exploit the vulnerable, the weak, people who want to commit suicide. for goodness sake that was not what was said at all. its like the pastor saying " for God so love the world that he gave his only begooten son that whosoever believe in him should not perish but have everlasting life" and some layman journalist hears this and report that the pastor said if you believe you will not die at all.

Such reporting deviate from the truth and we are not able to have a balanced debate, now granted there are pastors who are fraudulent and are exploiting the sincere desire of the members to be obedient to God and obey whatever comes from the alter as a word from God.
I once attended a church in sapele delta state and i wont mention the name of the pastor of the church, but i wanted to put to test the claim of the pastor that day, he asked for an offering for some building project, but before asking he gave testimony of instances where people had emptied their pocket to give offering and they were blessed, call it naivity, brainwashing whatever, but that day i was going to prove him wrong. I had traveled from a far place to attend the service, so i emptied my pocket, gave my last money and my transport money too, anyway after the service i went to the place where i needed to board transportation back home, i sat down like everyone else and when the vehicle was full they satrted collecting money, and just as it got to my turn someone who was not travelling said dont take money from that boy wearing red shirt- yes i was wearing red shirt and i was about 18years then and they asked him again, who are you talking about, he came close and pointed to me... to cut a long story short i got home and did not pay a dime. At the service i gave the money to GOD from my heart of heart, if they pastor used the money to buy a jet has nothing to do with me and honestly i dont care but God who i gave the money to from my heart blessed me and from that day all this debate of pastor eating money dont really bug me, i still give and talking about blessing.. i am 35 now i have bought a house in London, i have buildings in Nigeria, i have a 2 business making daily money and if you ask me do pastor eat church money now... probably yes infact definately yes some of them but i will never in my lifetime open my mouth to slaughter any pastor. I serve GOD. GOD BLESS NIGERIA
Tears drops down my eyes as i read your coment. Heaven bears me withness becos i know that you know the truth ! May God continue to bless you. I am not a pastor. And i dnt think i want to be one but forever i will evangelize and win souls,i mean multiple souls for christ !
God bless you my brother.
The WORD of God is INFALLIBLE no matter what the devil and his agents do !

LocalChamp: Jail is too good for Nigerian pastors

November 22, 2012 by Abimbola Adelakun

Recently, the Daily Mail, UK, had a feature on Bishop David Oyedepo. He was accused (alongside his son who ‘manages’ the UK branch) of fleecing worshippers by making “spurious claims” and “cynical exploitation of the gullible”.

The undercover journalist who visited the British church and the British MP who condemned him acted ignorant of the antithesis of faith and logicality when they expressed surprise about how people were urged to give more money in return for blessings that were neither guaranteed nor cognisant of the realities on ground.

The feature also talked about how much of the money creamed off these worshippers are being repatriated to Nigeria (which, in a perverse sense, is a positive development!)

The same Daily Mail, weeks before, ran a feature on another Nigerian pastor in the same UK, Alex Omokodu, (who claims on his website to have raised the dead twice) and another Pastor Mbenga of the Victorious Pentecostal Assembly who scam worshippers by selling olive oil and black currant drink at double the market rate as “miracle cures”, capable of curing terminal diseases.

Like Oyedepo, Omokodu lives large, far removed from the mess he makes of peoples’ lives.

My visceral reaction at those articles was to defend my countrymen against a searchlight that might have been beamed with a racist undertone. I mean, Daily Mail suddenly woke up and realised religion is exploitative? Wow!

Isn’t that what religion has been all about for many centuries? How can we say that what Oyedepo and Mbenga are accused of peddling different from the Pope’s selling of Indulgences in the 16th Century? Religion plays on fear to rip-off poor and miserable people in the name of God. And the irony is, the more people are deceived, the more devoted they become. So, what’s new? From appropriating people’s money to shoplifting condoms to forcing youths to have sex, what have church leaders not done?

If people have refused to read History books that teach us that religion came to us riding on the back of exploitation and politics, why, with the celebrated cases of Jim Bakker, Eddie Long and Benny Hinn among others, do people still throng churches and sponsor their pastors’ excesses out of their poverty? Why has the case of financial scandals involving the creators of TBN Channel -some of which are so disgusting- not caused a mass boycott of these hawkers of falsehood? Why does it spur people to defensiveness instead?

Why did somebody like Jesu Oyingbo have followership in the first place and why didn’t people walk out on Pastor Chris Oyakhilome when he charged gate fees before one could attend service? Seriously, who should take the blame? The person who sells snake oil or the one who finds a psychic relief (however temporary) from buying?

Take the case of Pastor Enoch Adeboye: On his church website, Adeboye claims God told him He had no choice but to keep Covenant Partners alive for 10 years because they were giving to Him within that period. This takes ideas of bizarre and outlandish to another height entirely.

One, a god is meant to earn his keep but Adeboye’s is one whose services people have to pay for, never mind that billions who are not his covenant partners are not only alive, but live considerably better lives elsewhere. Two, can Adeboye, personally, account for every single one of his covenant partners and that in those last 10 years, not a single one died? Can he? We are used to Nigerian judges and politicians saying that their hands are tied, but God? That sounds like something from the mind of a freakish Nollywood screen-writer.

Since the news broke that Pastor Ayo Oritsejeafor has joined the league of Private Jet-Owning Pastors, there has been, thankfully, a sense of outrage at the excesses of Nigerian pastors.

For the record, let me state that Pastor Oritsejeafor is not a good poster boy for Christianity (never mind the various caps he wears, anyone can be anything in Nigeria’s Pentecostalism). I make this point – debatable, of course- not just because of his Bling Bling jewellery like 50 Cents or even his bond with the present occupant of Aso Rock Villa; there is something about him –and I came to this conclusion after watching him raise an offering on Cable TV- that doesn’t seem to me would wait for God to supply all his ‘greeds’ according to his riches and glory.

His private jet was presented while he was sandwiched, like Jesus between two thieves, in the presence of a President who bizarrely declared he couldn’t see how corruption and road accidents are interlinked and, a governor whose public morals fall below average. Rev. Fr. Matthew Kukah could not have put it better: Oritsejeafor’s moral authority is undermined by these dalliances.

The issue is, religion, exploitation and subsequent scandals will not go away. Not in this generation. Not even in this world. As long as there is that primitive instinct in man to seek the supernatural, to seek God and the fear of death is constantly shaken before our eyes, people will continue to subject themselves to exploitative pastors to use as they like.

But the good thing Oritsejeafor has done for us is that he created a conversation; Oyedepo, Omokodu and other sellers of 21st Century Indulgences keep exposing the underbelly of these merchant-pastors; but whether this will translate into a rationality that will cause Nigerians to slow down on the ill-logic of tolerating these pastors’ shenanigans remains to be seen.

It takes more than throwing pastors in jail for their followers to be set free from the mind-prison they are ensconced in. Religion and political power are intertwined in many ways that make this impossible to begin with at all. History shows that, for instance, with an Industrial Revolution, the process creates a ripple effect that bleaches people of primitiveness to transcend religious superstitions while forging a better society that is not predicated on dogmatic concepts of theodicy which religion propagates. When that day comes in Nigeria, and even Africa, these pastors will wilfully choose jail as rescue from irrelevance the times would banish them.

But here’s the problem: These pastors know that with Nigeria’s developmental progress comes their end. And they are actively complicit in the dysfunctionality of Nigeria to extend their own longevity.

ehie: You fundamental nutjob.

You are obviously a discipline of the scripture of avarice, greed and self love..
i made certain things clear in my post

I stated that the doctrine of tithing practiced in present day Israel, the genesis of christainty states that the people of Israel should give the tithes to the levis, priest etc,but the levis should not own any property.

the health and wealth doctrines championed by the your MOG is wrong
why wasn't a lot of emphasis placed on wealth during Jesus sojourn but a lot of emphasis placed on righteousness, charity, love?

) You cannot truly give your allegiance to God while at the same time trusting in and lusting after material gain - you can't worship both God and "Mammon" at the same time (Matt.6:24; Lk.16:13).

2) We brought nothing into this world and will take nothing out of it (1Tim.6:7).

3) Lust for material gain makes us vulnerable to the devil's attacks, and threatens our salvation (1Tim.6:9).

4) The love of money is a source of all sorts of evils, turning us from the faith and causing us much anguish (1Tim.6:10).

5) Greed is essentially idolatry (Col.3:5), and its practitioners idolaters (Eph.5:5).

6) Covetousness lured Balaam into sacrificing his relationship with God for the sake of money, so that his actions are proverbial for the deceptiveness of wealth (2Pet.2:15; Jude 11).

7) Envy is the true root of acquisition lust (Eccl.4:4).

8. The lust for wealth can never be satisfied by any success (Eccl.5:10).

9) Wealth can be a severe disadvantage, keeping us from God (Lk.18:23-25).

10) Where your treasure is, there is your heart also (Matt.6:19-21; cf. Lk.12:32-34).

11) What does it profit a man to gain the world but lose his soul? (Mk.8:36; Lk.9:25)

12) Your life does not depend upon an abundance of possessions (Lk.12:15).

13) Storing up material things rather than striving to be rich towards God is folly (Lk.12:21).

14) Discipleship requires the willingness to put God before possessions (Lk.14:33).

15) Wealth can distort one's perspective, choking spiritual growth (Mk.4:19).

16) Nothing is permanent, not even great wealth; great wealth merely subjects the possessor to greater temptation and a higher standard of judgment (Jas.5:1-6 and Lk.12:48).

17) Covetousness is forbidden by the 10th commandment (Ex.20:17; Deut.5:21).

you only see and hear what you want to hear..
every man is entitled to be a fool
Good friend, the above are all true cos they are scriptural !
If you present anything first before God,you will be heading to hell !

THE LOVE OF MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL.

When you love money it becomes the root of all evil. Pls try to love God,fellow humans and use money !
When you present money before God it will definitely take you to hell.
Lust over material things is bad but does not mean we shouldn't posses them.
When you covet, you sure love money and will value it above God.
Money worshipping is idolatry no doubt. That's why we don't have to worship money. I.e,when you are supposed to be in the presence of God you are busy running after money.
YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON God and not money ,very true.It must be God first before money
Yes,wealth can be disadvantage to making heaven but that's why we must not make money at all cost. That's why the bible said the blessings of God maketh rich and added no sorrow. God can't give you money that will take you to hell. It's not possible.
Your life depends on the abundance of the presence of God in your life and not money. Yes no body said your life will be all about God and not money. YOU SEE WHY I SAID THE MEN ON THE FORBES LIST AREN'T RICH AT ALL-THEY LACK JESUS.THEY ARE NOT LIKE JOB WHO WAS RICH AND STILL THE FRIEND OF GOD.
If all my life i put my heart on wealth as against making heaven or having a good relationship with God,then my treasure can't be in heaven but my wealth.
Any man who does not put God first before possesion,is doomed eternally
What will it profit me to gain the whole world and loose my soul ? No wonder Christ said i should seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness AND EVERY OTHER THINGS WILL FOLLOW !
The kingdom of God first before the wealth !
Money is only a defence according to king solomon.
The only permanent thing in life is GOD !Money is not permanent so we can't make it our God.
If the preachers teach only how to make wealth every day in church, then they have missed it all together. This only mean they value money above God-Sin. Just like the laodicean church in revelation, they had riches/wealth but no Jesus. They were just like the richest men of Forbes list.Christ said they weer poor and Unclad. You see. You remember the rich fool in luke,he stored up wealth and said ther is no need to know who God is and God took his soul.
Please brethren, the principal thing is to Know Jesus even with all your wealth. It amy be difficult but not impossible.Christ said the rich and the poor can still make heaven becos of the possibilities with God.
You can distant your self from wealth and riches and still go to hell. And a rich man like Job can still be in heaven. The thing is accept christ as your lord and personal savior and ask for the spirit to guide you.

For me,i want to remain here to fulfill the promises of God in my life,to be rich and be in good health as i go about preaching the good news that jesus christ is lord ! If i dnt have good health, how will i enjoy long life !
God bless us

jasmin3: The best way to practice christianity is by strictly paying more attention to ur conscience n reading ur bible. Not by taking another man as ur God no matter how ordained the person is.I fill more fulfilled giving my tithe to the less priveleged than dropping it in a church box.
It is good to give money to the less privileges but that is not tithe. The tithe is to take to the house of God so there will be plenty there as we have it today but only that some people say that the plenty in church is not for plenty people(not going round) but for few in the house of God.Only God knows this one.Or you can be like some other who say they dnt pay tithe at all becos it is only an old testament instruction. But sse below the words of Jesus to the Pharisees who only want to pay tithe and not listen to the less privileges or attend to their needs:
"What sorrow awaits you Pharisees! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore justice and the love of God. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things.''LUKE 11:42. You see why i say you must do both to be in God's good book! It is good to tithe if you understand it and also good to give to the poor !

ehie: My silence doesnt mean i believe you,but its becos its better to leave a fool in his folly
I am no fool neither are you one. But the only person my bible told me that can be regarded or addressed as a fool is one who has said in his heart that there is no God !
My brother,Jesus loves you ,he died for you and i.I know you are familiar with this line but think about it and allow the holy spirit full time in your live !
I love you my brother !
Thank you my brother and the bighead also forgot how Paul totured and killed the preachers of God in the Bible, but God never killed him rather he turned him to his servant. Trust me, if that story sef was true and not one of those many scam stories those con pastors use to put fears into their gullible members(so as not to check their excesses), God would not allow that man to die, rather he would give him so many chances to change his ways. God is not a wicked God and I kinda wonder which kind of God these guys serve these days, cos these pastors present Him to their members as a very wicked God.

@OP----So this stupid Adeboye in his theory wants to tell us that a poor man will always remain poor as he has no dollar nor pounds to give. Whatever happened to widows mite
The widow did not sow but gave ! And was appreciated by the receiver -Jesus Christ. She gave even while in pains ! But if i go to church with one thousand naira, and when it's time for giving and i give 20 naira,i tell you it would have been better i did not give at all. David said he won't give God what will not cost him !That is to say,he will give even when it's not convenient to give.Remember the case of cane and abel ? one was accepted and the other wasn't accepted yet they were both children of God ! So God can reject your offering whether cash or farm produce.
And brother pls,dnt call somebody stupid.Besides, this man did not do anything to you and people who attend his church go there on their own.And you are not God whom he claims to be worshipping. If you think he is a thief, leave God to judge him accordingly.
God bless us
You can sow in so many ways my fried, God has already told you in the Bible how to give and sow, He said; When you give to the poor, you are giving to me. So you do not need any man of God(whatever you guys call these thieves) to tell you how to give to Him. The richest men on forbes list sowed nothing and most are not even christians. Listen, God is not interested in the riches of this world and who told you that God's blessings must be in monetary terms. Honestly, Nigerians do not love God cos they are only worshipping Him cos of what they will get from Him and not true love
Do you think the richest men on forbes are ''rich''?
That's one of the reasons Jesus came, that's why we have apostle and others and also that's why we have this man called pst.Adeboye whom you just labelled thief ! Christ was also called thief and a heretic.Apostle paul and other apostles were also called thives and heretics. And now Adeboye ! Anyway, all of them came to teach you and i but he who has ears let him hear ! Christ thot and did the one biggest thing that brought HIM to earth,DIED FOR YOU AND I.
Pls what is riches or wealth ? God said i have given you power to make wealth !''The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.Proverb.11:4.
''therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, riches and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have."-2 Chronicles 1:12 This was the exact word of God to Solomon. Brother, you can talk about wealth and riches leaving out money ! Wealth is all encompassing BUT THAT IS NOT THE REASON WHY WE ARE HER !

ehie: 1 peter 2 21,for hereunto u were called, becos christ also suffered for us,that u should follow in his steps. Let me tell u a truth, life is not fair, some will be rich some be poor, some will have good health, some will not,but in everything give thanks.
The bible which is the word of God has offered you life but you want to choose death. He said there is good and there is evil but HE is advising us to choose the good so that we will live. If some must be poor no mater what,do you want to be that poor some when you can be rich and still have your salvation intact.Or If christ has made good health possible and you are now saying that some must be in bad health,do you want to be that some that must be in bad health ?
The truth is that you can be poor and die in your bad and health poverty and still make heaven.Where as i can be rich be in good health and still join you in heaven. BE WISE MATE !

Zeus I: A message from me about giving: ' God is tired of receiving from fraudsters and swindlers in political offices and wants you to give the ophanage homes, natural disasters victims, taking up the responsibilities of sponsorship to higher learnings; those who lacks the resources. God listens to their cry more than those of the churches, since all their pastors/priests do is purchasing of 'private jets', and cruising the latest jeeps, with their wives travelling from one country to the other like first lady. Who is deceiving who?
There are grounds for giving ! Not everyone can receive from God ! If you are against God and yet to accept Jesus as your lord and personal saviour,do you think God will want to give to you ? NO.So why will i give to whom God did not approve ? If you sow on a fertile soil you know what will happen bro but if on a rocky or stony ground, you sure know what will happen. Give wisely because not or less privilege or poor people can receive from God !
God bless us
