absoluteSuccess:Where did I say depopulate? I said responsible procreation, not a situation where the population expands by 100% every 25 years. No economy or society can withstand that kind of pressure. The average woman is still having 5 children in Nigeria, all the while crying about hardship. |
absoluteSuccess:Encouraging responsible procreation would stem many of Nigeria's problems - the population has doubled since 1992, that is an unsustainable situation. It puts the infrastructure under sever strain that even a more established democratic nation would struggle with. There aren't enough class rooms because the rate of children added each year is ridiculous, that means that many children receive no or a very poor education - one teacher is not going to attentively teach a class of 50 children. There aren't enough jobs because the number of young people added to the job market each year is equally insane. That puts many people in a desperate situation where they will do anything to make money including various crimes and other misdeeds that erode the societal fabric and make the practice of effective democracy problematic e.g. selling their votes or joining useless religious groups that engage in physical and mental terrorism. If someone such as Sanusi can admit to this fact (despite his own hypocritical actions) then I wonder why you can't see it? |
absoluteSuccess:I do not hate children - I have spent considerable time taking care of other people's responsibilities, often times with greater patience and joy than their own parents. Claiming that other people's children are not my problem is myopic and simple minded reasoning. A society is made up of all, the actions of one person (or a couple) have a knock on effect. When someone has a child that they cannot cater for and that child has do whatever it takes to survive it is you and your household that they will prey on to survive. That you cannot see this most obvious of facts is another troubling issue that simply reinforces my point about many people desiring people without even understanding their own environment; their role as a parent; or the wider role around them. I'm certain at this point that you are one of the many people who when asked - "Why is Nigeria the way that it is"? Your response would be "The leadership is bad" - not realizing that within each household the parents are the leaders. Yes, the leadership is bad because they are uninformed, that is true at the Federal Government level (especially with this administration) but also within many households. The dysfunctional nation is simply an extension of the dysfunctional nuclear family. Why do you think the north has such a problem with Boko Haram? You think it is a coincidence that the region with the highest birth rate and the highest poverty rate is also home to the greatest menace in Nigerian history? |
absoluteSuccess:Megolamania or narcissism is surely more a feature of people who believe that they are entitled to procreate than someone who says that they do not need to. Afterall, a child is only an extension of oneself. In light of that fact I ask you a simple question, who is the megalomaniac here - you, who is insistent on having children or I who feels no need to procreate? It isn't about one person making a better society, it takes a collective. The fact that you cannot see that yet desire to introduce children into this society is disconcerting and is typical of many Nigerians who think that building a safer society is someone else's responsibility. Again, I ask, why would you introduce another life into such a setting? Is it not the function of a mother to ensure that the environment in which they bring that child into is safe and secure? There are various stages of abuse and neglect because the level of parenting in Nigeria is often very low. Most Nigerians struggle to comprehend that beating children; forcing religion on children; and using children as unpaid labor are all forms of abuse. This is why I do not understand the obsession with fertility. |
absoluteSuccess:Why is it unethical to suggest that not everyone should have children when not everybody wants children? And being a mother is about raising a child, lots of women give birth to children and then abandon them - we see stories everyday of one child of another being thrown in a gutter; or branded a witch, abused and left to die. Let us first embrace the science of raising children before we speak of celebrating the act of giving birth. Your comment reminds me of the women who get very giddy about weddings but who do not know anything about the responsibility of being married and how much time, energy and patience it takes to build a healthy marriage. Raising a child is similar and that is why I fear so many young women have such a naive and childish take on child birth. There is no 'mystery' to motherhood or procreation - we know about the sexual process and we know about DNA. We do not live in the Middle Ages. And why do you people who speak with such starry eyes about motherhood not have the same fascination with creating a functioning society? What is the point of creating life if you're just going to throw them into a cesspool? |
absoluteSuccess:It isn't disdain - it's called reason. And I am in no way attached to any LGBT community. Your assertion is illogical, if anything the people most in need of IVF would be homosexuals who cannot hope to have a baby in the natural way because they do not engage in heterosexual activity. Nigeria already has a sky high birth rate - it's logical that people first learn to take care of the ones that we already have before adding to the number. Learn to take care of children and learn to take care of expectant mothers so that the number of women who die in and around childbirth is negligible. That would be a far more fitting program than increasing the use of IVF. Even an slowpoke such as Sanusi has acknowledged that Nigeria needs to take control of its birth rate. This despite the fact that he has several children and taken another, teenage, wife. |
Let him stay in London for eternity. The man is useless and has always been useless. All he does is push nonsense ideas and cause division. Let Osinbajo complete his term. |
absoluteSuccess:I do not need to have children to feel purpose or feel better about myself. If I should decide that I need a child in my life there are thousands of children in need of adoption in Nigeria. |
absoluteSuccess:Would I wish what for myself? |
As if Nigeria needs more babies. Teach people to take care of the people already in existence before encouraging the continuance of this culture of reckless breeding. Not everybody needs to have a child. |
I remember when El-Rufai was in front of the camera almost every day, running his mouth about one issue or another. Now that the nation knows how insecure his state is he's nowhere to be seen. |
Are these not the same cretins who prayed for Yar'adua? How did that work out... |
Is not an indictment of the Buhari administration that one of the better ministers is leaving not even 2 years into his tenure? |
It amazes me how these backwards rural communities will attack a petty thief but do nothing when someone brutalizes a child. |
zxcvb:There are schools in other parts of the world where people can go to learn how to be better lovers. It's hardly the worst idea and far from the reason why Nigeria is a mess. As to your assertion that it is 'the youths' who are the problem in Nigeria - I suggest you take stock of who holds power in Nigeria, in politics, religious institutions and other areas of influence. You'll understand how wrong you are when you do. |
AccessME:His daughter too? |
WorldRichest:Is 'Dikko' Hausa for 'Jonathan'? Why is it his name that appears on your lips when he isn't the one who stole or is even being investigated? |
Electroweb:Using the energy that you have to build community institutions that hold local, state and federal level institutions to account is in indeed within the control of the citizenry. In order for the crooks to prosper the majority need to be complicit either silently (by turning a blind eye) or explicitly (such as when people accept handouts in exchange for votes). If Nigerians spent as much time on community awareness and activism as they do on religion there would be far fewer problems. You mention America and you are right that many (if not most Americans) are not living in comfort or prosperity. The same is true in South Africa but what annoys me about many of the migrants who go to both nations is that they have the nerve to talk down on the native black population in both countries whom they often hastily (and ironically) tag as 'lazy'. Meanwhile they refuse to deal with their own cowardice in running from their own problems and take advantage of the labor (and blood) of the ancestors black South Africans and African Americans. What can be more lazy than allowing your own home to crumble so that you can feast at another man's table? |
Otutu1:What a stupid comment. |
bonna4u:As you can see from the foolish comments in this thread it isn't just black South Africans who need to emancipate themselves from mental blockage, clearly there are a lot of Nigerians who are suffering from the same problem. Incidentally, both groups have a tendency towards religious obsession. |
Electroweb:Instead of 'seeking greener pastures' maybe those that went there should learn from the experience and build their own country instead of building on the backs of another group's suffering. Hold your own leaders to account. Rid yourself of your own destructive practices and institutions and you will not need to go to South Africa or elsewhere. |
sarrki:It wouldn't have been at all. What was needed (and is still needed) is for the outmoded habits to be done away with. It is the Europeans who bolstered the useless feudalism in the North that has allowed so many problems to grow with the ever expanding population. So please, learn to reason before typing. |
Seun:Is that why they have a forum within a forum so as to stop them from being 'offended'... And could I please have that stupid Islamic text removed from my profile. Thanks. |
Nogodye:Do you think people would be so angry with the government if he were president instead of the Dummy from Daura? Even though APC lied their way to power it would be more palatable if the man at the helm showed a modicum of intelligence instead of you know who... |
This man has some nerve talking about 'fake news'. What about all the nonsense that we've had to listen to from this man over the past two years. Will he apologize for polluting our ears with lies? |
Your husband's dream is Africa's nightmare. I wish him a long, everlasting sleep. |
obyrich:Is anyone seriously shouting Sai Baba in 2017? Even the northerners that I speak with are ashamed of him. |
While it's great that will they not further burden the nation with even more debt every day it becomes clearer by the day that this government never had a plan for Nigeria. |
Luvdk:Look at your face and then ask yourself who would want to marry you? And what are you doing in Greece... |
Like someone else asked - why can't he 'rest' in Daura? Or somewhere else in Nigeria if his goal is to attain sufficient 'rest'? |
victorvezx:You can't steal from your own home. |
