And that just confirms my point - everything in Nigeria is does in English so why spend more time learning Arabic? Who benefits from that? The people do not benefit, Nigeria does not benefit so why continue the practice?

English is the international language of trade, even in the Arab states they often conduct business in English. The only space in which Arabic has primacy is when it comes to Islam. The same Islam that has hampered development in the Middle East and now northern Nigeria.

Nigeria does not accept 'western civilization' any more than China. The use of that term is the reason why people in the north are so resistant to formal, modern education and other amenities of 21st century life.
