Business / Re: CBN Ready To Sell Five Bailed Banks 100% To Foreign Investors by mojojojo(m): 2:10am On Sep 02, 2009
What I mean is some people are ready to jump on the wagon and criticize anything without having full facts or knowledge about an issue. Their contributions are not useful and are a waste of our time as Nigerians. People should learn to be objective. No idea is useless until it has been thoroughly analysed to be.
See this hypothetical conversation:
anti-progress: I don't foreigners to own Nigerian banks.
me:why?
anti-progress: Because they are not Nigerian.
me: who do you want then?
anti-progress: Nigerians.
me: Like the ones arrested recently? I am not saying that there are no Nigerians capable of owning and running banks but do you realise some of the biggest banks in the UK like HSBC are not owned by the british? Have you asked yourself the benefits of having foreign billions circulating in our economy? What about the skills and expertise they bring to the fore? What about integration like using your atm card to buy from amazon or ebay? What about bringing down interest rates? Where will all the foreign money go to in Africa if we refuse allow foreign investors, ghana or south africa?
I can go on and on.
Business / Re: Sanusi Canvasses Islamic Banking by mojojojo(m): 1:38am On Sep 02, 2009
There are many manifestations of islamic banking and the type of implementation solely depends on the bank/organisation implementing it. The cardinal principle behind any form of islamic banking is not put the borrower in a situation where he is unable to pay back the loan.
Some islamic banks charge fixed fees on loans that reflect inflation and profit. They key difference between this and normal lending is that a borrower knows what he is going to pay back beforehand whereas interest rates are variable and change all the time. Any one will tell you that the global recession was caused by lending at variable interest rates which borrowers were unable to pay back.
Islamic banking is best explained with loans to businesses. If an islamic bank lends to a business it does not expect the business to pay back the money with interest whether the business has made a profit or not. Instead the bank takes an interest in the business and becomes something like a partner, if the company does well the profits are shared between the borrower and the bank and if the business looses money the losses are also shared.

Politics / Re: The Ibru Nanny has Now Been Declared Wanted. by mojojojo(m): 3:40pm On Aug 31, 2009
It appears some have not realized the implication of this report. The nanny is obviously a front for Mrs Ibru, the company belongs to the banker and she gave the loan to herself. Probably compensating the nanny in the process. But since the nanny is legally the owner of the company, EFCC has to follow all the legal steps to arrest and interrogate her.

Islam for Muslims / Re: Islam And My Profession - I Need Help by mojojojo(m): 4:10am On Jun 28, 2009
A bad deed in Islam is usually one you are not comfortable with. Since you confused enough to ask this question, then it is best to avoid the job. Remember not to graze your sheep on the gray areas of the field knowing they might easily wonder into wrong doing.
Having said that buying shares in the stock market is allowed and lawful in Islam. Buying and selling shares is far from speculative as any keen investor knows. What is prohibited are games of chance. These games are completely out of the control of the user and the stakes are usually high. Putting money in banks is also allowed since there isn't a practical alternative. However since the recession, western financial firms are taking an interest in the concept of Islamic banking , its low risk profile and resistance to the recession. The day may not be to far when an alternative is afoot.
Sports / Does Nigeria Really Need Another Okocha? by mojojojo(m): 1:58am On Jun 28, 2009
The general consensus is that the super eagles are lacking creativity in midfield and the solution to our attacking problem is get a new Okocha. But the pertinent question is , do we need a player in that mold and if so do we have one? Frankly I do not see any Nigerian player in youth ranks with the skills and vision to be the next Okocha.
The days of football are gone when the a team's direction on a field is dictated solely by one person. The game of football today requires a central midfielder that is more defensive than he is attack minded. A look at the successful clubs in Europe will attest to this and some of the most succesful teams in world cup history like Italy and Germany are not known for their creativity. Even Brazil are employing two defensive midfielders in Melo and Silva instead of the alternatives Ronaldinho, Gago or Diego. If so we can count ourselves lucky to have a player like Mikel who has a decent passing ability and is now completely a defensive midfielder. The result of a such a set up is to create a choked up midfield where most creativity will be left to the wings where pacy and clever strikers/wingers can either cut into the field and score or spread the opposition wide creating space in the center.
Amodu realizes this fact and has used the method and players available to him to his advantage. The result is perhaps the most defensive eagles side yet. We have conceded less than 4 goals since the qualifiers began .Hard to score against but unfortunately a team that also finds it hard to put balls behind the net. This lack of goals in not due to lack of creativity in my opinion but rather a lack of balance in the team.
In retrospect, we could have won the game against Tunisia and sealed qualification. Amodu made a simple mistake of not having an out and out striker from the start. You see Nigeria has many strikers but they basically fall into two categories; those that run in between the lines like Yakubu, Akpala and Enaramo and those that run at the defense like Uche, Martins and the rest. In employing only players of the second category our strikers looked inept and out of depth. Perhaps are best attacking performance was against France in the first half when Akpala played center, collecting long balls , feeding Uche and Osaze and distracting the french defense.
Against Tunisia at home I expect Amodu to be even more ambitious and play two out and out strikers like Yakubu and Akpala and sacrifice a defensive midfielder like Mikel. With positional discipline we would be able to get early goals and settle nerves.
Sports / Re: Nigeria(0) Vs Tunisia(0) on Saturday June 20th by mojojojo(m): 6:07pm On Jun 20, 2009
I really don't understand where all the pessimism is coming from. We have the best defensive record in Africa in the qualifiers, team spirit is high, competition for places is rife, and the players need the world cup more than we do.  Tunisia had a good team a few years back but have clearly been in the decline.
The least I expect is a draw.

@Nigeria1
You claim that you have proof , you are an engineer or something and that satellite images are sufficient to prove that these states have a population less than what was counted. But your method is far from scientific or analytical.
Satellite images are indicators to settlement density not population density since they do not adequately reflect the number of people living in those settlements. Additionally you seem to not know that Kano and kaduna have several semi urban centres and a negligible number of villages. Kano, for instance the city where I come from , has urban centres in Bichi, Gwandu etc wich are part of the 42 local governments in the state. I see none of these settlements in your images. Where is Zaria in Kaduna. Anyone who has been to kaduna knows that Zaria is the largest city in the state. What is the satellite resolution? Did you take all pictures at the same resolution? Big pictures can seem smaller at large distances.
As someone who is currently doing research in satellite communications engineering, I am not convinced by your evidence. This is just rhetoric. The census results may not be 100% accurate but they are the most dependable records we have. If you question them, the only way you can dispute them (scientifically that is) is to get off your chair, go to these states and recount. Until then be inventive and think of something else that will get our attention.

Both reporters live abroad and write about Nigeria. That is just simply stupid and irresponsible. I don't care what other countries would do in this situation but I support the questioning and detention of these fake reporters.
If anyone has views and opinions he is free to post them but only under the appropriate context. If you have something to say, post a blog or leave comments in a forum like us normal people but don't call your perspective and untenable reports actual news just for cheap publicity and recognition or you will be forced to face the consequences.

Politics / Nigerian Constitution, One Of The Best—namibian Senator by mojojojo(m): 5:40am On Oct 29, 2008
A Namibian Senator, Afeni Ndemuna, yesterday in Lagos hailed the Nigerian Constitution, describing it as one of the best in the world.

He said that his country’s legislative arm would recommend the constitution to the government and people of Namibia.

Ndemuna, who led a four-man team of Namibian senators on a courtesy call on Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, said they were in the country on a study tour. The senator is the Chairman of the standing committee on constitutional and legal affairs of Namibia’s highest law-making body.

He said his country stood to benefit immensely from the Nigerian constitution, which had been put to practice in the last nine years.

“The delegation is also in Nigeria to purposely visit the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja and Lagos to see how best the constitution is being practiced.

We will, through our one-week stay in Nigeria, learn from the federal lawmakers and Lagos lawmakers about best constitutional practices,” he said.

Fashola, in his remarks, said that there was no viable alternative to democracy.

He identified team work among the three arms of government as the secret of the success of the state in democratic practice, over the years.

Nawawo we are so involved with our problems that we forget we have it better than most african countries. This might be a good time to reflect on what is good in this our problematic country
Food / Re: Skipping A Meal Makes Guys More Attracted To Fat Women? by mojojojo(m): 12:54am On Oct 21, 2008
Many men in naija prefer plumpy women as do our cultures, i find this exceedingly common in thin men. I for one am a "lepa" person but I can understand the attraction for plumpy women. I guess what i'm saying is there are as many men who like plumpy women as there are plumpy women, but tastes do change and no one man falls into an exclusive category.

Politics / Re: SSS Invades Channels Tv by mojojojo(m): 7:31am On Sep 20, 2008
As long as laws in our constitution allow government to clamp down on 'erring' media houses these things will go on.
Since assuming office, Yar'dua has been an epitome of calmness. However this health business seems to be a sensitive spot for the guy. This is just a way of asserting control and authority which he feels he is loosing.
Having said that, the gross irresponsibility of CHANNELS as a media outfit is remarkable. They received the news from an email address they don't know, from someone they have not heard of and yet went live with the news. This just reflects the quality of journalism in Nigeria.
NYSC / Re: How Relevant Is National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) In This Dispensation? by mojojojo(m): 7:16am On Sep 20, 2008
I think the idea behind NYSC is still a good one. Its raison d'etre is still valid. The problem, as in most FG projects, lies in the inability of the govt to review and change the scheme so that it remains relevant. Even though there are still divisive forces within the country (the main reason why the scheme was set up in the first place) times have changed since the civil war but unfortunately the scheme has not.
The way it is structured today the scheme is expensive and too long.
I would like to see a shorter period for the NYSC, possibly six months or less with about 4 to 6 batches a year. This time should be used solely for National service and not jobs/primary assignment duties. The 20% retention rate of the corpers indicates the failure of the scheme to provide jobs for graduates.
Getting jobs is an 'every one for himself issue', therefore I would like to see better skills training for corpers by the NYSC.

Programming / Re: Join A Software Army? by mojojojo(m): 4:49am On Sep 08, 2008
I think the project is doomed from the beginning.
When Gates started his company he was not out to destroy any monopolies that existed at that time (IBM,LOTUS, e.t.c). He had a vision, a revolutionary product  and excellent marketing. Even though he was laughed at, he changed the world of computing as we know it.
Dreams are good. You should chart your own history and path, create your vision for the world and what you would like to see and then put an army together to achieve your objective.
Only then would you bring about the downfall of Microsoft.
Phones / Re: Why Do Nigerians Prefer Nokia Phones? by mojojojo(m): 4:36am On Sep 08, 2008
Its no surprise that Nokia phones are the most popular phones in Nigeria, Nokia is the world leader in mobile phones and it accomplished this using;
An intuitive and easy to use interface.
A good range of phones from cheap and affordable (good for value) low end phones to high end phones.
A pace setting policy: the first to introduce so many new technologies in phones.
Durability.
Customizable phones with fascias and covers.
And high availability of replacement parts.

Nokia is well ahead of all other phone companies in the global market.
Politics / Re: Nigeria Signs Nuclear Agreement With Iran by mojojojo(m): 12:20am On Sep 06, 2008
Its a pity Naija had to turn to Iran for nuclear technology.
We have had nuclear ambitions for almost 20 years now and followed the UN's rules letter by letter only to be ignored by the west. This technology is jealously guarded and the rules are clear if we are going to use the technology for power generation then we have every right to pursue the technology as long as it is open and done with no malicious intent.
I think this is more of a political statement to the west.
Jobs/Vacancies / 419er's Advertise Fake Vacancy In Thisday! by mojojojo(m): 1:31pm On Aug 18, 2008
A friend of mine applied for a job in response to an  advertisement of a vacancy in THISDAY. The company replied him and asked him to submit his passport because the vacancy is in the UK. He asked me to do a little research on the vacancy and I found out that the email address used by the company is in fact an address used frequently by 419  scammers.
To think that these guys have the audacity to advertise in a National daily is appalling and now they are even targeting fellow Nigerians not oyinbo.

So be careful.
