Should we really be getting involved in this way? |
If properly implemented, but I doubt we can afford that right now. Even the UK has given up on that plan because it is too expensive, and not practical right now |
Yes I think it is eti osa |
@juman, Simple question are you prepared to give up 1 day to help Nigeria achieve good governance? Are you prepared to stand in a queue for days on end, if thats what it takes to see the right person elected? are you prepared to contribute financially and selflessly to the success of Nigeria? And I require an honest candid answer. |
@nvo5, My people are lazy, politically lazy. they believe that good governance is something you wish onto yourself. no one is prepared to work, that is why most sit and critisize, yet offer no solutions. These are the same people who would not give up a single hour for the benefit of our country. I have come to the stack conclusion that we are a damn selfish, greed and lazy bunch who have no moral authority to crisitsize those who try, after all that is all Pat is trying to do, go where you and I will not dare because of our selfish nature |
@Juman, So which progressives do you suggest he joins? Why dont you join his army and spread the word, except you dont believe in what he stands for? The fact remains that we as a people do not know what we want. Please let someone suggest a candidate that is agreeable to all |
@Kobojunkie, I did this same thing at th deep end, I mean amongst my family and friends, even in the newspaper stands, and where people were registering to vote. But the message has to be sustained, the people you preach to need to be converted and willing to stay converted and act. But we will see |
@Sapeleguy, My brother thank you for standing by the truth |
@Ochi_Agha, You see I have since realised that we as a people do not even know what we want in a leader, and that is why we are where we are today. Not all this story abou PU not pulling his weight and reaching out to the grassroots. Start by listing all the candidates and you will soon see people who have problems with every single one of them, which in itself is not bad, but then they do not offer a credible option. Sad state of affairs but true, and yes I am under no illusion that we have proper democracy, but I would rather choose someone with some vision rather than one who has stolen from me before, but is only looking for a way to steal some more |
@Jovi, Thank you very much. I was party to all the hard work he did in Lagos and in the Universities as well. the man means well, and that is where my conscience lies |
Each time I see people salivating over Donald Duke I puke. Talk is cheap, haven't you heard? How much wealth did he amass as governor of Cross Rivers? There you have it. Even the so called Donald Duke is accused of stealing. I have said it that we as a people do not know what we want. It is so easy to pick holes in other peoples plans. We just cant pick ourslevs a leader. That is the main problem. So all this talk about PU in my opinion are just excuses. |
@Beaf, and how many on the current crop fit that your description for the right reasons |
Well, I agree, but I can also catergorically tell you that your plan is likely to achieve little, especially as we do not have a common opposition. Let us start by having a common opposition. Though we all agree that PDP is our greatest enemy, we are divided amongts ourselves. |
Well can I ask if you where in Nigeria during the last elections? well if you weren't, then I doubdt you fully understand how the politics on the groud works. Tell as many people as you like not to vote for PDP, when the time comes those with the necessary mechinery on the ground will claim the victory |
@Ochi_Agha, Is it not a case that the whole country is stuck in the useless politics that hasnt helped us in the past. I have named others like Donald Duke who has probably had more exposure than PU, but is suffering the same fate. Now what would you attribute that to? |
@Alxmyr, Please can you confirm what connecting with the grassroots means. I want a proper definition of what other politicians are doing to, these same politicians that have connected in the past, but deceived in the future. So please tell me what all this connecting with the grassroots is all about |
@Ochi_Agha, Which party? I know PU has been doing some good work with Ribadu and Rufai, and believe me the man means very well. I have often tried to explain the infinite possibilities that could exsit with him in charge, but then again this is the concept that even those that should know fail to appreciate. My vote stands with him, because I share his vision for our country |
Listen people, If we want change we must support those who have decided to stick thier necks out in Wild West Nigeria, believe me it is not as easy and we think. All he probably asks from us is support, not hole picking. I doubt the other candidates have done any better. We are here comparing him to those who have used means you and I dont approve of. |
I hear this lack of experience issue and in gets on my goat. Can Someone please point out any of the candidates with experience that did well at thier local level. Just 1 candidate? |
@Ochi_Agha, True, maybe there is room to reach out a bit more, But he was extremely popular in Lagos, where people understood what he was saying. Like I said this issue is not unique to Pat, See Donald Duke and Wole Soyinka suffering the same fate. What I see here is that We are an inhereantly politically lazy bunch. We are not prepared to do the things necessary to set our country on the right path. We want the easy way out @Beaf, Please define the people person. |
Well, Nuhu must speak up now, but also I have oeften asked how much a university profs salary is that he declared 300million naira worth of assets. Nigerians ask the right question oh |
@Ochi_Agha , He has been doing this as far as I understand, but the problem still remains the bread garri and rice politics we are so used to in Nigeria. It is so difficult for the common man to understand policies that would benefit him, as far as they are concerned, once every 4yrs politician turn up with bag of rice and tomatoes to canvass votes, now is this how we agree we must reach the common man? or do we stand to be accused of the same thing the others are doing? |
@KcJazz, PU has been laying the foundation for well over 2yrs. most other candidates have only just declared as well. See, what i often say, is that we as Nigerians always look for excuses why the best man should not win. why are we so scared of trying something different, especially as the different shows good promise. Same thing has been said about, Wole Soyinka, Ribadu, Donald Duke. So who do Nigerians really want. I just dont get it |
I do conceed that maybe the bottom up approach might have been useful, but that is supposing we had a proper electorial process which we dont have. And under what party in the first place. Beside those who have been involved for so long have not done any good. So the experience in this case may not have been entirely relevant. He is approaching it from the same level as Ribadu |
But guys as far as I remember , this is the second time he has run, so has Buhari and probably others. He is entitled to run as far as his desire and will carries him. he is passionate about making change, and very determined to be involved in the process. The same sort of determination that is lacking in a lot of us, that we so easily give up and allow the evil that has plagued us for so long to persist. |
@Ochi_Agha, Very nice, a man with a clear vision and a good heart. He has my vote anyday. Knwoing that my vote represent selflessness and progress for the common man |
Well limited inpact, besided people accross the world are not going to influence the outcome, the common man in Nigeria hardly watches televison let alone political debate. We are very far off from that sort of politics in Nigeria, maybe except Lagos, which hard one during the last elections I still think we should start by having a credible opposition, even those of us here find it difficult to agree on a concensus candidate, let alone the layman who hasnt got access to the internet and modern media. |
So we now vote for people irrespective of what they stand for, but because we think they can win, and we want to belong to the winning team? |
Well done PU, stand by what you believe in, we are behind you |
@Ochi_Agha, Well said. I campaigned tireslessly for him during the last elections and I am right behimd him again. Just like you have said, we always fail to use the sharpest tools in our boxes, why I dont know. I am yet to work out a theory as to why when the brightest and the best amongst us choose to stick out thier neck and get involved, we just dont believe in them. See, Wole Soyinka, the same thing happened when he declared, people were more interested in commenting on how he stand very little chance, rather than standing behind him. |
The debate is not necessarily wrong, but I dont see what a debate from candidates of the same party will do, probably expose both candidates as rubbish, however what percenrage of Nigerians would actually see the debates and make decisions based on that. So I am yet to see the full benefit. I am more concened about the inablility of Nigerians to put thier difference aside and work towards achieving a credible opposition, as long as we as a people cannot agree to move in one direction, we will find it practically impossible to oust PDP |
