for those who are rejoicing, is it well understood that Sin is Sin? If that is the case what is the difference between this Man and those who loot out treasury dry?

Please we must leanr to recognise when a big wrong has been done, and in my opinion, this is one of those cases. this is an innocent man who has been killed unjustly, and this should never be seen as right.
PoliticsRe: Uganda Gay Rights Activist David Kato Killed by monkeyleg(op): 8:38pm On Jan 27, 2011
That is why Jesus said "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone". The killing of this man is wrong, we may not like what he does, but that does not give anyone the right to take his life. There can be no good logival reason for this, and it must be condenmed totally
PoliticsUganda Gay Rights Activist David Kato Killed by monkeyleg(op): 5:23pm On Jan 27, 2011
A Ugandan gay rights campaigner who last year sued a local newspaper which outed him as homosexual has been beaten to death, activists say.

This is so sad. Some may not like the acts they perform, but that is no reason to kill them. This is pure wickedness.

Well he should have rejected the assignment knowing fully well that he was incable!
In Nigeria, people dont accept their inability to do things, they will accept positions knowing fully well what the outcome is likely to be. After all if he fails, no one can do anything to him. That's how it works in Bongo
PoliticsRe: Voter Registration. . . Jega Asks For Another N6.6bn by monkeyleg: 4:14pm On Jan 27, 2011
Ujujoan:
Scenario . . .

You hire a consultant to carry out an assignment. You present him with his ToR which contains his exact job descriptions and expectations. Based on that, he draws up a proposal covering the total cost. This proposal is approved by you and the funds subsequently released.

Halfway through the project, he realized he won't be able to meet the deadline as a result of bad planning and shoddy implementation of the activities. The information you received from the field was that he employed inexperienced and inadequate workers, procured sub-standard materials, and generally messed up the whole process.

The only alternative to ensure the activity is effectively implemented will be an extension of the time line. However, your consultant is insisting that the assignment must be concluded at this point because an extension would incur additional costs on his side.

Question:
What will be your reaction?

Options
a) Grant him the time extension he requested for at no additional cost because the extra costs is as a result of his own failure.
b) Grant him the time extension he requested for and provide the extra costs he's demanding because he's threatening to resign.  undecided
c) Object to the time extension because of the extra cost at the risk of not achieving your own objectives as a result of his failure to implement as planned and as budgeted.
d) Object to the requests for time extension additional cost, fire him and sue his highly unprofessional a$$!

I'd go for option d . . . .  How about you  huh  undecided
Option E: Demote him, get an experienced hand to run things and show him how things are done

I can almost guarantee you guys we will be spending that sort of money come 2015.

Jega must resign now. Nigerians must learn how to make thier leaders accountable. I am sick and tired of our Money being wasted this way. I have nothing against the Prof, but I think this is way beyond him.

I am confident there are seasoned Nigerians out there that can do a steller job. Uncle Jega should go and rest.

You are probably right but if you read the start of the post, it is that he is asking for the amount. Also, I wonder how valid Jega's claims of 4.3 million registered per day really are. Considering the hiccups reported and the fact that some were not even required to provide valid ID to register, I wonder if much of what we will get, at the end of this exercise will be different from the old.
I think he is actually asking for more money. See todays Guardian.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Will Not Progress In The Next 50 Years by monkeyleg: 10:56am On Jan 27, 2011
@Ikay88,

You are right my brother. However there is a big difference between wanting change and making change. The Nigerian man or woman wants change, but the Nigerian man or woman is not prepared to do that which will bring change. And it starts by asking the key questions of those who have gotten into power by whatever means, and Nigerians believing and understanding that the country belongs to them and not a select few. But for me the most important thing is that we must all have a unified definition of right and wrong.

Presently those words have an entirely different meaning in the Nigerian context, and that I believe is our major problem.

Take for instance the ongoing voters registeration, which to me has been very bad. Why dont we all see it as that and find how we can move forward, instead people are keen on defending the indefensible. I do understand that people might have had varying experiences, but by and large it has not been a good excercise, considering the amount of money spent.

@monkeyleg, you are just pretending to be objective, but from your post I can see that you're bitter dat GEJ won the ticket.
Furthermore, you're also pretending to live in the UK and claiming to know the working of the whiteman's democracy.
We know our system is full of flaws, but the conduct of the last PDP prez primaries was surely a step in the right direction.
Don't always believe what those western press tell you, these guys are not always fair in their reporting of Africa.

Sarah Jubril is a brave lady by any standard, because running for president of Nigeria is not for the fainthearted, but she should do her homework very well next time.
I really dont care if GEJ won the primaries, all I am interested in is the process that ushers one in. If there is reason to suspect the process, what is wrong in voicing ones opinion, and if necessary taking steps to put things right.

Sarah Jubril, has every right, like you and I to challenge a process if she feels it is wrong. A right most Nigerians do not understand that they have and should exercise. That is how you keep a govt in check
PoliticsRe: Voter Registration. . . Jega Asks For Another N6.6bn by monkeyleg: 9:53am On Jan 27, 2011
Very funny, but extremely worrying.
I remember when I started questioning this guys moves, I was quickly and swiftly shot down and dragged out with blood all over the floor by a lot of apologist on this forum.

Let us step back a bit. Right from the inception, a lot of people were already singing his praises even before he lifted a finger, well for me I was looking out for a proper programme plan, one that showed promise that some of the issues from the last exercise had been tackled and addressed properly. I even recounted my 12hr experience during the last voter’s registration, on this forum.

Anyway, then came the Delta state re-run. No matter what people say, it was very clear to me and those who wanted to see that the whole thing was a sham, with the same problems bugging things down, even Jega in his own words admitted that ballot box snatching and rowdy electioneering was the order of the day. Some were fixated on the point that my preferred candidate did not win, however I was more interested in a system which had shown very little signs of change, in fact in my candid assessment, I think it had regressed badly. People were failing to see my point of a man, who definitely wasn’t suited for the job. In times like this, our lack of honest assessment always gets the best of us.

2 weeks later, the voters registration kicks off, then we start getting all these horrible stories, including the wicked and false blaming of corpers. Well honestly I wasn’t surprised that the whole thing was going to be like this. Anyone who wanted to be objective, could see that proper planning and consultation had not being done, and the likelihood of a smooth and credible exercise was very remote, but being the Nigerians we are, we don’t face up to it and start making silly excuses.

Key questions:
1: why was this contract not awarded to an organisation that has good solid experience of Biometric registration be it local of foreign? After all with a budget in excess of £300 million, you can get the brightest and the best.
2: Where is the accountability, why were Nigerians not updated regularly on the progress of the whole thing from planning to delivery?
3: Who is responsible?

As far as I am concerned, no more money should be thrown at this thing, until Jega comes with a very detailed, credible and plausible plan. If he can’t, he must be relieved on the position, and someone with a better understanding brought in.
The way things are going, I can guarantee you guy, we will be going through this same thing come 2015

Technically, Gej didnt shun it - he only got it sooner than it was due. In Delta state, its scratch my back I scratch yours. With the support Uduaghan currently enjoys from d north, it is hoped that same support would be reciprocated come 2015 to a candidate from the north afterall he wouldnt have won without their support. But that remains to be seen as treachery is not restricted to any particular tribe.
Wesley80, I am surprised that you are fall for this rubbish plan. People like you are the politically lazy we have in this country, not prepared to fight on merit, just sit and hope in comes your way. I can guarantee you that you will be pleasantly surprised.

You haven't answered my question! So because BBC said something, it must be true? What facts/evidence do u have? If Sarah Jubril had won, would that have made the whole process fair? All this noise is because GEJ won d primaries. I am not in anyway supporting GEJ on this, but i hate factless arguments. Now, be sincere, did u think Sarah Jubril could win d primaries? Tell me the states in which you thought she was going to have more votes than GEJ or Atiku.

Monkeyleg, please answer the above questions!
There is really very little reason why I should doubt bbc, simply because they are credible, and believe it or not, they check thoer sources out.

That said, I think the issue here, which you have failed to grasp is not if Sarah Jubril lost, I think the issue here is what transpired and how the whole affair was conducted. I would have cried foul even if it was not pdp, and things were done wrong

It is normal for a minister or perm sec to get 20 percent of any contract awarded as kickback. It is normal for contracts to only be awarded to relatives, friends and extended relatives and friends of politicians even when their could be  a better and more reliable bidders who doesn't have corrupt connection taht would have delivered better.

If this was the UK and you are picking a party leader, and there is wift of money changing hands, I cant even suggest what would happen.

Now are people denying that the 5000 / 7000 dollar issue never happened?
