Business › Re: FOREX: Nigerians Will Continue To Suffer, Pending Massive Refining – Kachikwu by Montaque(m): 10:22pm On Aug 21, 2016 |
LordAdam: Please, is your name is Joseph?
You can dream eh!
Here's the thing, what will happen in post-2019 is that we will be more immune from the currency volatility. The exchange rate at that time, which would certainly be over $1/N500 will not magically reduce. The only thing would be that like it was from 2004 to 2014 when the Naira lost less than 25% in value, post 2020, our currency will be more stable against foreign currencies and not lose a lot of its value when next the economy tanks.
As at 2014, we had already reduced our import bill from #1.1t to roughly #700b. With the fall in value of the naira, that inevitably will increase up back to #1t. Anyway, programs like the CBN ABP should send it back down in the near future.
I really pity Buhari, because things would only begin to shape up in late 2018, when the election period will be entering full swing (assuming the price of oil does not go past $70 per barrel between now and then). By that time, Nigerians would have had enough for him. But unfortunately, he'd still continue ruling if he so wishes. The primary reason why is because he is retired Fulani general who doubles as the incumbent president and has his kinsmen in all the sensitive security and electoral positions.
In the future, Nigerians would look back at the 2015- 2019 period as the worse democratic period in the nation's history. The history books will not be kind to Buhari.

kgr8mike: You see, sometimes there are gift you don't need. Some gifts will cause you more problems, create more troubles which you previously don't have.
That's why I wanted to know the intentions of this Chinese man.
We are better the way we were. I don't want people that will give us what will make us become more enemies to ourselves, kill ourselves and further frustrate ourselves by making us more unpatriotic.
He should properly administer the gift otherwise he should take his gift back. We are better of the way we were. Typical Nigerian still suspecting this Japanese benefactor of ill motive. If you don't accept gifts, you would have been dead and gone since, cos ur life is a gift from the almighty. And I hope u don't suspect that too as being a greek gift. The NFF should honour the intentions of the doctor, by giving the gifts to its due beneficiaries, ie mikel and siasia. Its now left for them to decide who they will share it with, which I know they will give out some portion to their mates. |

DropShot: Where I live, since the crude crash began and despite that the country uses its earnings more judiciously than Nigeria, fuel pump price has been increased on three occasions.
House rent has gone up.
Prices of consumer goods have shot up by more than 30%
Thousands of jobs have been lost as a result of same drop in crude earning (it's by God's Grace many of us are still employed).
Despite all these, residents understand that all the developments are a result of drastic drop in the country's income.
Don't I have people I send money to on monthly basis? Or do you think if I was sending N100k before now, it will still be that same N100k in these hard times?
We need to be pragmatic and show understanding. I was taking you serious until I learnt you don't live in Nigeria, presently. |

Op. You obviously wrote this article before the 2nd arrest. FYI, he has bEen arrested again and there is plan to charge him to court come this monday, for breach of the peace.
Also, you think he was arrested bcus our dear president's name; FYI, the complainant laid the complain cos his own father's name is buhari: so the issue of defamation suit from Moh'd Buhari does not follow.
Now, there is a whole lot of offences in the Criminal/penal code, such that the ant is not guiltless in the midst of the chickens. There is no behaviour concievable under the sun that cannot find expression in our criminal laws. However the law enforcement agencies are to manage the laws with care so as not to negatively affect the people. In this dog naming case, the police can always hold the man in protective custody, ie, over the counter only. Just to protect his life from irate neighbours. Community policing now demands that the police will invite all the parties( the complainant and the neighbours) so that the issue will be ironed out and peace ensured. The way the NPF handled this issue will ensure that the hard feeling is further elongated, and bringing a criminal case against the man is ill advised, because the case will fail, bearing the facts(the name was since 2015, buhari is a common name, the complainant laid the complain cos he said his own father's name is buhari) and the mens rea. Our NPF has an institutional flaw, in terms of community policing and alternative dispute resolution skills to handle the cases before them. They have rendered their works like a robot, no innovation. |

fiizznation: I don't just know why some people are professional mischief makers. Why name your pet after someone's father? The easterners have to really get their priorities right. Losing election is not the end of the world. People have moved on, the easterners should learn to move on too. We all know why the lunatic named his pet 'buhari'. Of course he did that just to spark some ethno-religious crisis. And I ask, what will the fool achieve if people are killed because of trivial issues like this?
Everyday drug peddlers{majority of them are from the east}are arrested and prosecuted in various nations around the world. And till date I'm yet to hear anybody from that part of the country addressing such calamity or enlightening his people about the dangers of carrying hard-drugs to other folks nations. People will just focus all their energies on irrelevant things. Now I still ask again, what did the lunatic intend to achieve with this foolishness?
I also heard one other lunatic{residing in USA} have named her pet 'lia Mohammed' and some very sick people were applauding her foolishness. We all know how fragile Nigeria is and how some people tend to protect their religion and what not. What will people achieve by creating unnecessary crisis here and there? People are quick to accuse the northerners of being too prone to violence without accusing or calling out the instigators. Now every sane mind knows that some people will find naming a pet after buhari provocative and the sooner the authorities deal with that lowlifer the better for everyone. In USA people name their pets Lincoln, Washington, Obama etc and everybody flows with it. A neighbor of mine even named her female chihuahua 'Hillary'. But hey, Nigeria is not USA. We are a fragile nation with intolerant people. May God help us So why can't you advice northerners to get upgraded like their mates in the US or even the SW. Do we continue dragging along people from the stone age with us? Can't they just grow like all human being? Nigeria isn't USA, but USA was once like Nigeria, until they dropped some animalistic tendencies. Here we just want to drag people with their backward trend along. No wonder we can't improve. This same issue is with grazing bill, western education, freedom of religion, child marriage, women education etc. |

YonkijiSappo: The richest city in Africa can't even keep a single shoprite branch outlet Afloat? LMAO Even the ones in Akure, Ibadan and Ilorin are thriving, not to mention the numerous outlets in Lagos. I always tell Nigerians, Igbos are more into informal and unregistered economy, any attempt to bring regulation, formalisation and order to any Igbo dominated venture or towns will fail woefully. You missed the enugu outlet, why is it thriving still? Or is enugu not an ibo state. The point is that onitsha has many markets (49 regular markets at last count), so any such enterprise like a mall, plaza, call it shoprite or walmart will have little or low patronage. That's onitsha for u. |
Business › Re: Onitsha Shoprite Idles Away by Montaque(m): 8:53pm On Aug 18, 2016 |
The venture isn't totally a waste. The mall is state govt owned, and the franchise given to shoprite and other outlets. If they can do biz profitably there, the state govt can convert it to another use. The place is large enough for a tech-hub and other 21st century enterprise. I would have sited a mini silicon valley there. |

You see what lack of planning can cause? Normally, before any tournament, the whole gamut of the players welfare and wellbeing plus their commitment is agreed and if possible, reduced in writing, so that every knows what he or she will face as the tournament progresses to each stage. This agreement will also save us the bringing up of previous salaries not captured in the present agreement. Our fire brigade approach (start paying when the boys shows signs of progressing) isn't helping us. I don't know what does in that sport ministry are employed for when they can't think innovation considering what re-occurs every tournament |
