Algeria To Supply Electricity To Niger Republic For Free – Adamu Garba
An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Adamu Garba, has claimed that Algeria has decided to supply free electricity to the Niger Republic.
Naija News recalls that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had cut off the power supply to the embattled country.
TUC Kano State sub-region Public Relations Officer, Adam Umar El-yandiski, confirmed the news to Channels Television via phone call.
According to him, the connection that supplies power to Niger Republic comes directly from the national grid, therefore, it has no connection with the supply of power to any region in the country.
The move was part of pressure on the country’s coup leaders.
However, speaking via his Twitter handle on Friday, Garba stated that Niger had gotten an alternative to its power supply issues.
According to the APC stalwart, Niger will now receive power supply from Algeria.
He wrote, “Algeria is to supply electricity to Niger Republic for free.”
Power Cut Will Push Niger To Resent You – Shehu Sani
Meanwhile, a former Kaduna Central lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has berated the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, for cutting the power supply to the Niger Republic.
Sani insisted that the move would lead to Nigeriens living their lives without depending on external forces.
According to reports, power outages in Niger have been less frequent than it was in previous times, as power only stayed on for about an hour at a period for residents of the cities of Niamey, Maradi, and Zinder.
Reacting to the development via Twitter on Friday, Sani highlighted the implication of Nigeria halting power supply to its northern neighbour.
Sani insisted that the move would lead to Nigeriens living their lives without depending on external forces.
Naija News recalls that Nigeria reportedly cut the power supply to the Niger Republic as one of the sanctions from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) over the coup in the country.
He wrote, “Cutting off electricity supplies to Niger Republic is affecting their hospitals, Schools, homes and offices.
“This is not putting pressure on the military junta but punishing the masses of that country and creating resentment against our country.
“The action taken by Nigeria and Ecowas is further pushing Nigeriens to rally around their Military Government. France, Ecowas & Nigeria are pushing them to learn to live without dependence.” https://www./2023/08/12/algeria-to-supply-electricity-to-niger-reoublic-for-free-adamu-garba/

ECOWAS Parliament divided over planned military action in Niger
The Economic Community of West African States Parliament was divided over the actions that should be taken to address the Niger coup.
While some parliamentarians of ECOWAS were in support of military action against the Niger junta, others were against it.
Twenty-two parliamentarians took part in the virtual extraordinary meeting on Saturday to discuss the political crisis in Niger Republic.
While some of the parliament spoke in support of dialogue and diplomacy, others called for actions that would actually stem the rise in military government within the region.

Politics › It’s Treasonable To Deploy Nigerian Army To Niger Without Senate Approval — MBF by Morbeta11(op): 5:43pm On Aug 12, 2023 |
It’s treasonable to deploy Nigerian Army to Niger without senate approval — MBF
..cautions troops deployment would worsen economic hardship in Nigeria
..insists Nigeria cannot afford to fight a proxy war
The Middle Belt Forum, MBF, has warned that it will amount to a treasonable offence to deploy Nigerian troops to Niger Republic without the approval of the Nigerian Senate.
The MBF also cautioned that any deployment of Nigerian troops at this particular time would further squeeze the Nigerian economy and worsen the hardship being faced by Nigeria.
The National President of MBF, Dr. Bitrus Pogu who made this known while reacting to the supposed order by ECOWAS for the deployment of troops to oust the military junta in Niger Republic cautioned that Nigeria should not be dragged into any form of proxy war in the neighbouring country.
Hear him: “To me the entire thing playing out as regards Niger Republic is like a double standard.
“Many things have happened in ECOWAS including those that have happened that were unconstitutional based on extant national laws. For instance today the constitution of our country is being challenged by the reason of the last election we had. Nobody came in to say that the provisions of the constitution has to be adhered to. You cannot just swear in somebody when certain conditions are not met. That was not done.
“Again there are countries in West Africa that the military took over governance and they the military at still in government and ECOWAS did not say anything. Why is the issue of Niger being giving so much attention, why the double standards?
“So there is something fishy in this whole thing. And as a country, more than 50 percent of the people of Niger are Hausas. And they have their kith and kin in Nigeria.
“That is why we must weigh this thing very carefully. But in the long run our already bad economy will worsen if such a war takes place, because Nigeria will be at the receiving end both ways. So it is not advisable; maybe they are being instigated by the West, we are not supposed to be fighting proxy or western wars for them.
Security: Don't disappoint Nigerians on sacred trust repose on you — Tinubu tells cadets “Let France fight their war; we have been suffering from Boko Haram for years now and nobody came in to assist. We shouldn’t delve into problems and issues that do not concern us.
“Moreover the Nigerian troops cannot be deployed outside the shores of this country without the approval of the Senate. Based on our current laws, the President cannot just deploy our troops. Recall that the President had earlier approached the Senate for deployment and the Senate refused. So for him to by-pass the Senate to do that will be a reasonable offence. So it is unfortunate if the President deploys Nigerian troops to participate under whatever guise, whether ECOWAS guise or whatever without the approval of our Senate.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2023/08/its-treasonable-to-deploy-nigerian-army-to-niger-without-senate-approval-mbf/

Your days are numbered, defence chief warns IPOB, others
The military high command has said with the support it now enjoys from the citizens, the days of criminal elements in the country are numbered.
The Defence Headquarters noted that with the development, it is either the criminal elements surrender or get killed.
The Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
It partly read, “The uncommon cooperation, collaboration, and support received from citizens across the country are greatly assisting our operations to yield expected results. Nigerians are speaking up, and the military is doing something about it.
“Given the active participation of citizens in exposing the activities of these evil elements. Their days are surely numbered to either surrender now or exit this world. The military would sustain the momentum. Therefore if you know something, say something and the military will do something.”
He added that in the last few weeks, troops killed 38 terrorists and arrested 175 gunmen.
“During the week leading to August 11, 2023, the military neutralized 38 terrorists, arrested 175 gunmen/ criminals, 20 kidnappers, 30 collaborators, and 17 pipeline vandals.
“The military also rescued 89 kidnapped hostages. Troops denied the oil theft saboteurs the sum of N607,346,750.00 being the value of seizures.”
Buba also said between July 31 and August 3, troops arrested 18 suspected members of a criminal group in Borno known as ‘Malians’.
“Between July 31 and August 3, 2023, troops responded to intelligence of a notorious criminal gang known as Malians hibernating at Bolori 2 general area, Jajeri Bayan Quarters, and Tudu general in Maiduguri Municipal City of Borno State.
“The operation yielded results as troops arrested 18 suspected gang members. Troops recovered substances suspected to be cannabis, cough syrup, and five mobile phones.” https://punchng.com/your-days-are-numbered-defence-chief-warns-ipob-others/

N’Delta youth condemn blowing up of stolen crude oil laden vessels
N’Delta youth condemn blowing up of stolen crude oil laden vessels stolen crude oil in Niger Delta ..our lives, livelihoods endangered
AS the Nigerian military task force, and contacted pipeline surveillance company intensify fight against pipeline vandalisation, illegal bunkering activities and other forms of criminality, concerned youth under the auspices of Niger Delta Youth Congress, NDYC, Friday, condemned the blowing up of stolen crude oil laden vessels.
Their condemnation is on the heels of increased devastation and degradation of the environment, which the Niger Delta people had suffered heavy pollution of water, land and air that had claimed lives since the discovery of crude oil in 1956.
In a statement signed by the National Coordinator, NDYC, Comrade Israel Uwejeyan, demanded the act of blowing up such vessels should stop to protect the lives, environment and livelihood of the people of the region.
The statement reads in part, “The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) vehemently condemns the reckless and environmentally devastating act of blowing up vessels laden with stolen crude in our precious waterways.
“We stand united in our call for an immediate cessation of this deplorable practice, which serves only to exacerbate the already dire ecological crisis we face in the Niger Delta region.
“It is nothing short of an affront to the very essence of our land and livelihoods that those entrusted with safeguarding our interests would engage in an activity that directly contributes to the degradation of our environment.
“The crude oil spills resulting from these callous actions are an assault on our water resources, endangering aquatic life and undermining the sustenance of countless communities that depend on these waters for survival.
“While we, the youth of the Niger Delta, have long endured the devastating consequences of oil exploration activities, it is unconscionable that entities such as the Nigerian government, Security agencies, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), and the Tan Tita Security would further compound our woes through these explosions. Such acts betray an utter lack of concern for the future of our region and the generations to come.
“We must remind those responsible that our region has borne the brunt of environmental degradation for decades, as oil spills and pollution have wreaked havoc on our ecosystem and socio-economic fabric. To then witness deliberate acts that add to this destruction is an insult to our resilience and an assault on our dignity as a people.
“The NDYC demands an immediate end to these explosive practices that only serve to amplify our suffering. We call upon the Nigerian government to uphold its duty to protect our environment and secure our future by enacting stringent measures against these destructive actions.”
The youth also said, “We insist that the NNPCL, as a key stakeholder, demonstrate its commitment to the well-being of our region by distancing itself from such ecologically disastrous endeavors.
“Furthermore, we demand that the Tan Tita Security reassess its role and its impact on our communities. The guardians of our safety must not become accomplices in the desecration of our environment.”
They also warned that, “Let it be known that the Niger Delta youth will not stand idly by as our waters, our lands, and our lives are subjected to further harm.
“We will hold those responsible accountable for their actions, and we will champion the cause of our environment with an unwavering determination that reflects our love for this land.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2023/08/ndelta-youth-condemn-blowing-up-of-stolen-crude-oil-laden-vessels/

EXTRA: ‘We’ll return victorious’ — Dokubo seeks permission to battle Niger coup leaders
Asari Dokubo, leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Force (NDPSF), says if given permission, he will invade Niger Republic with his private army and restore democracy to the country.
On July 26, President Mohamed Bazoum was deposed from office in a coup led by Abdourahamane Tchiani, commander of the Nigerien presidential guard.
The coupists have since defied a deadline to return power to Bazoum as issued by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), amid threats of military intervention by the regional body.
In a viral video, Dokubo said he is capable of overrunning Niger Republic with his army if permitted to do so by Nigeria’s federal government.
“If the government commissions me and my people to go to Niger Republic, we will go. We will defeat them and we will come back victorious. It is not a boast,” he said.
“If Benin republic likes, let them go and bring anybody, they are human beings like us. We will go there, defeat them and restore democratic order.”
ECOWAS has just finished a meeting in Abuja aimed at restoring democracy to Niger Republic through dialogue and diplomacy. https://www.thecable.ng/extra-well-return-victorious-dokubo-seeks-permission-to-battle-niger-republic-military/amp
