Celebrities › Mohbad: Council On Narcotics Urges NDLEA To Suspend Naira Marley As Agency’s Amb by Morbeta11(op): 7:11am On Sep 21, 2023 |
Mohbad: Council on Narcotics urges NDLEA to suspend Naira Marley as agency’s ambassador
The African Council on Narcotics, ACON, has advised the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, to suspend Azeez Adeshina Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley as its ambassador pending the conclusion of investigation on the death of Nigeria’s young musical icon, Ilerioluwa Oladimeni Aloba, aka MOHBAD.
African Council on Narcotics has also urged government agencies intending to confer brand ambassadors on proposed persons must carefully profile such a person(s) to be certain they are fit and proper persons capable of flying the brand flag untainted and very high rather than bringing bad influence on those being targeted by the brand.
President of ACON, Rekpene Bassey in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, argued that the essence of appointing a brand ambassador is to showcase a positive drive for the brand.
His advice is coming on the heels of the controversy and diverse comments surrounding the death of MOHBAD on September 12, 2023 and his alleged hurried internment within 24 hours at Ikorodu in Lagos.
Bassey in the statement said, “In the wake of this, the Nigeria Police authorities directed detailed special homicide inquest into the cause of his death.Consequently, the homicide investigators swung into action with several steps including the exhuming of his remains for autopsy.
“Several persons are being interrogated and/or interviewed over the case. All of these are being done because of the suspicion that his death was masterminded through forced ingestion of some deadly substances by certain folks who were directly or indirectly connected to him.
“However, as we await the outcome of official security investigation into the case, it may be expedient to question the rationale for the engagement of one of those suspected to be the brains behind MOHBAD’s death namely Azeez Adeshina Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley as an ambassador of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) – Nigeria’s foremost anti-drug agency.
“Naira Marley hardly represents any strong positive social energy as can be seen in his public conduct and the character traits of the so-called Marlians modelling after him.
“Most of them are deviants, to say the least; engulfed in youth bulge, cultism, petty criminality, internet fraud and the abuse of dangerous drugs. How can such fellow be a role model for our youth?”
Continuing, he said, ” The essence of appointing a brand ambassador is to showcase a positive drive for the brand. To engage someone whose outward conduct is seemingly antithetical to what the NDLEA represents is tantamount to official endorsement of what the agency is supposed to be against.
“We hereby call upon the NDLEA to stand down that appointment so as not to create a wrong impression on the psyche of our youth, particularly at this time.
“Going forward, government agencies intending to confer brand ambassadors on proposed persons must carefully profile such a person(s) to be certain they are fit and proper persons capable of flying the brand flag untainted and very high rather than bringing bad influence on those being targeted by the brand.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2023/09/mohbad-council-on-narcotics-urges-ndlea-to-suspend-naira-marley-as-agencys-ambassador/

TV/Movies › Goge Africa Is Concerned Some Bbnaija Acts Violate Nigeria's Moral Values by Morbeta11(op): 1:32pm On Sep 20, 2023 |
Goge Africa is concerned some BBNaija acts violate Nigeria's moral values
Goge Africa wants BBNaija to consider upholding the nation's cultural and moral values in subsequent editions.
Goge Africa, a tourism and cultural media brand, on Tuesday, advised parents to ensure their wards adhere to the age dictate prescribed by organisers of the ongoing Big Brother Naija Reality Show.
Nneka Isaac-Moses, the managing director of Goge Africa, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
She said, just as stated by the organisers of the show, individuals below 18 years old were not eligible to watch.
Isaac-Moses said parents should be conscious of the fact that every television content has its audience and, as such, should desist from allowing their children to watch content which were not designed for them.
She, however, advised the organisers of the show to consider upholding the nation’s cultural and moral values in subsequent editions.
"In as much as the reality show educates the adults which the show is designed for, some of its contents erode our moral and cultural values. This is the reason parents must be observant and monitor what their children watch.
"Though we are in the jet age when children can manipulate computers and televisions, it still behoves the parents to monitor their wards," she said.
Isaac-Moses explained that she was particularly excited over the commercial value and popularity the show brought to local companies, the housemates and everyone involved in the entire production value chain.
She, nonetheless, advised the Federal Government to take the issue of national orientation, cultural and moral values seriously which would also rub off on the show. According to her, these are the bedrock of a sane and organised society.
"In subsequent editions of the show, the organisers should intensify efforts in showcasing more programmes promoting our culture and morals. The housemates should be made to explore their cultures and educate the audience on the peculiarities and beauty of each culture.
"Deliberate efforts could also be made to exhibit our unique culinary culture, dance and all," she said. https://www.pulse.ng/entertainment/movies/goge-africa-is-concerned-bbnaija-violates-nigerias-moral-values/lwytzw9

ICPC wins as Court approves arrest of Justice Bulkachuwa’s husband for influencing wife’s Judgements
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, dismissed a suit filed by Senator Ahmad Muhammad Bulkachuwa, seeking an order restraining anti-graft agencies from inviting, interrogating or arresting him over what he said about influencing his wife’s judgement who was a former Court of Appeal President.
The court held that the lawmaker has no right to influence judgements of a judge.
There had been calls for Bulkachuwa’s arrest and prosecution after he publicly claimed that he influenced decisions of his wife while serving as President of Nigeria’s Court of Appeal.
THE WHISTLER reports that Senator Bulkachuwa had during the valedictory session of the 9th Assembly, said his wife, Justice Zainab, “accepted my encroachment, and extended her help to my colleagues.”
In the viral video clip on June 12, he said his wife assisted his colleagues at the National Assembly, as a serving judge.
“I look at faces in this chamber whom have come to me and sought for my help when my wife was the President of the Court of Appeal.
“And I must thank particularly, my wife, whose freedom and independence I encroached upon while she was in office, and she has been very tolerant and accepted my encroachment, and extended her help to my colleagues.
“I did my best and in most cases I succeeded,” Senator Bulkachuwa had said, while the then Senate President, Ahmed Lawan interjected him.
But in his originating summons before Justice Inyang Ekwo, Senator Bulkachuwa, through his lawyer, Mr. Donald Ayibiowu, stated that the leadership of the 9th Assembly did not allow him to “fully speak” during the valedictory session.
Ayibiowu claimed that his client’s political opponents are now twisting the development to malign his reputation and that of his family.
Moreso, Ayibiowu argued that in line with Section 1 of the Legislative Houses Powers and Privileges) Act 2017, only the Senate in session or any of its sub-committees has the disciplinary power to invite Bulkachuwa to answer any question relating to his conduct/utterances on the floor of the Nigerian Senate.
The plaintiff therefore asked the court to declare that he “is covered, privileged and protected by the parliamentary immunity as enshrined in Section 1 of the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act 2017 and freedom of speech and expression made thereto is privileged.”
He also prayed the court to declare that without exhausting the internal disciplinary mechanism, recommendations and approval of the 9th House of Senate, no other law enforcement agent of the federal government including the defendants “can invite any member of the Senate for questioning/interview and or for any disciplinary purposes in relation to the plaintiff’s privileged inchoate expression/statement/speeches made on the floor of the Nigeria House of Senate at the valedictory session.”
The Attorney-General of the Federation, the Clerk of the National Assembly, State Security Service, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC), and Nigeria Police Force, were listed as 1st to fifth defendants.
Amid the development, the retired justice had debunked the comments credited to her husband, saying she “never favoured any party” during her time as a judge.
But in his judgement on Tuesday, Justice Ekwo held that the most rational interpretation of the statement made by Bulkachuwa was that it is contrary to the law.
“The answer is simple, he influenced his wife, ” Ekwo said, adding this is an act of corruption.
Ekwo said the statement of the lawmaker is a confession of an irregular act that is subject to be investigated and prosecuted.
The judge said the plaintiff is liable to be arrested based on his statement, adding that the National Assembly is not a place to hide any person who has committed a crime involving influencing the administration of criminal justice.
“I hold that this case lacks merit and ought to be dismissed. The case is dismissed” Ekwo held. https://nkirukanistoran.com/breaking-icpc-wins-as-court-approves-arrest-of-justice-bulkachuwas-husband-for-influencing-wifes-judgements/

‘There’re existing laws’ — Akpabio says 10th NASS will not review social media bill
Senate President Godswill Akpabio says the 10th national assembly will not review the social media regulation bill.
Akpabio, who was represented by Shuaib Salisu, chairman of senate committee on ICT, spoke on Tuesday during the opening of the parliamentarian symposium at the 12th African Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF2023), expressed doubt on the possibility of a new bill regulating the social media.
The theme of the three-day forum taking place in Abuja is “Transforming Africa’s digital landscape: empowering inclusion, security, and innovation”.
“I am not sure that there is going to be a specific bill on social media regulation. However, there are emailing laws in various areas, social media is just one space,” he said.
:So, rather than having a specific legislation on social media. I will rather say social media is just one platform. The same way people have used regular media platform, to commit libel.” The senate president said the symposium is historic and marked a pivotal moment in Africa’s efforts to bridge the digital divide.
“The theme of the forum is instructive. It is a reflection of the deepest yearnings of all Africans for a concerted effort to keep in step with the rest of the world in the ICT reigns,” he said.
“We now live in a digital world and the significance of the internet and digital policy in shaping the future of our nations and the African continent at large is not lost on us.
“The global internet governance forum provides stakeholders from diverse backgrounds with a unique platform to come together, exchange ideas and encourage collaborations that will contribute to realizing the theme, the internet we want and empowering all.”
Speaking with journalists at the event, Samuel George, a member of the Ghanian parliament and the secretary-general of the African parliamentary network on internet governance, said with social media now being a major source of information for many, efforts must be made to create safe spaces on the internet for users.
“About five years ago, it was realized that there was a need for stakeholders and tech players to have direct conversations with members of parliament because when you’re talking about issues of internet governance, you’re talking about legislation, creating safe spaces on the internet and making sure governments have the right framework for internet governance,” he said.
“Most people get their information now from social media and traditional media is now trying to catch up.
“We need to ensure there are safe spaces on the internet for the citizens. Issues of internet governance, internet shutdowns, internet manipulation by the government and data laws need to be examined.
“We believe governments in Africa are doing well in terms of internet governance and digitalisation, but this doesn’t mean there isn’t more to be done. A lot more resources need to be put into it.” https://www.thecable.ng/therere-existing-laws-akpabio-says-10th-nass-will-not-review-social-media-bill/amp
