@andrewza

I work with and have worked with many South Africans who are level headed individuals who understand the politics, economics and social issues that surround the strained relationship between the two countries. I am in business with them and we constantly air our views on these three components that influence the NAIJA/SA relationship and through this we are able to understand the experiences of both countries

So trust me people can and will work together only if they choose to do so and stop clouding their minds with ignorant stereotypes by rising above them.

it takes an intelligent mind

Have you considered the fact that its just some over zealous gay right activist white kids armed with sophisticated media technology,  discovering a  new cause to channel their frustrations, turned political and spread a viral video to once again enforce the stereotype that Africans can't solve their internal problems by themselves

An article on the this issue was printed in the South African paper, 'The Sowetan'. Below are the comments from their readers. Link http://www.sowetanlive.co.za/news/2012/03/08/nigeria-south-africa-feud-over-yellow-fever-jabs?filter=all_comments
Just to enlighten you a little bit on those articles. The people who are writing those comments are not representative of educated South Africans. They are the very bush ones who are running around waiting for handouts from their ANC government and ready to "toy toy" and kill "strangers" to incite their government to hear their grievances.
PoliticsRe: Yellow Fever: South Africa Apologizes Over Deportation by morpheus24: 4:27pm On Mar 09, 2012
RSA:
South Africa apologised for the 124 deported Nigerians but nothing changes regarding the yellow fever certificate.

Nothing changed,Nigerians will still need to produce the certificate when visiting the republic. Our government only apologised because your government became emotional about this issue and they also used this as a nation building to divert your current domestic problems, like Boko Haram that is on the killing string and cannot be stopped.
Sorry RSA thats totally false. THe government acted decisively to demonstrate Nigeria's "potential" power on the continent vs the South Africans who consistently try to undermine it.

Deporting 125 passengers on the basis of "fake' yellow fever cards is ridiculous and you know it. There were several other alternatives that could have bee used.

Treating every single Nigerian like those low life ones that enter you country and disgrace themsleves will not be tolerated by us anymore.

You must learn to distinguish and not rely on preconcieved notions of a people. That's what an inteliigent and civilized poeple do poeple do no!

It is good to be patriotic, we all must denounce this unprovoked humiliation by SA, a country that was liberated by Nigeria. Methinks that by now, Nigeria would have reviewed her foreign policy, and replace with the Nigerian being the centerpiece of our foreign policy. It is obvious that most African countries lack a sense of history, countries like SA that we assisted barely 20 years ago are now flexing muscles. A highly xenophobic country like South Africa, filled with minds that are below average making iyanga, na wah o.
Eh please don't go to far in your patriotism. Nigeria only assisted SA financially and politically in its liberation struggle.
first of all, you people be bush people for nairaland. what happen is not deportation. It look like you people dont travel. they were only turn back at the port of entering. They will be allowed to enter if they return. Even if you go to england, you can be turn back at entering for some reason. It does not mean , you can not enter again. I have been to several countries like england, germany, france, Austria, italy etc it is also common in europe, i have travel more than 50 times including going to preach. it is common.

it is the duty of nigeria to inform people at airport.
Bush man . Technically a refusal to pass through the port of entry is the same as a deportation.

A deported person can return to the country he was deported from depending on the "reason' for deportation.

Olodo world traveller!

Fading Gloryhuh

More like good competition.

Now that there is a new player on the African scene vis a vis economic and political dominance, it will surely push the Nigerian govt to sit up and start doing things properly

I read with nostalgia the different version of and responses to the deportation of Nigerians by South African govt. What many of us don't understand is 'why would SA suddenly begin to deport our kinsmen from their land?' Are there genuine reason(s) for this action?Have investigation been concluded and results showed that SA maliciously deported our people? Is SA trying to start a kind of war knowing our importance to their country? If our kinsmen actually faked their travel and health papers, why should they be allowed into another country? Why are all Nigerians in SA not affected if the so-called deportation was done with bad mind?Deporting S/Africans who have all their papers intact in retaliation,to me,is childish and unnecessary. This 'war' must stop now.
Its called the law of Soverign "reciprocity"

tommi34475:
South Africa recently deported some Nigerians and as you probably are already aware, Nigeria responded in kind and deported some South Africans too. However, this has only brought to the fore the disdain with which Nigerians are treated outside their shores (perhaps within their borders too) by foreigners.

Share your experience.
With the increase in Nigerians flocking to SA since the late 90's and the high unemployment rate (24%) the country is experiencing, it is not surprising that the adverse policies regarding non South African national will play itself out.

However Nigerian's have a hand to play and that is the sovereign right of reciprocity. They should put stricter demands on the South Africans doing business or coming into the country using as much leverage as we can so they can come to the table and talk instead of resulting to archaic "yellow card' tactics to curb immigration into the country.
PoliticsRe: Mass Deportation From South Africa: Another Sign Of Nigeria’s Fading Glory! by morpheus24: 3:52pm On Mar 07, 2012
I see no issues with reciprocity as regards the Yellow card requirement.

Hence forth All Southern African countries should certify they are HIV negative to enter the shores of the country.

Its only fair in this case. !!1
Foreign AffairsRe: Nigeria Vs South Africa by morpheus24: 3:49pm On Mar 07, 2012
Its a tale of an existing Titan of Africa and an emerging Titan.

Long before SA opened up to the rest of Africa, Nigeria was known as the big dog. Behold post apartheid, SA is trying to assert itself as the dominate political and economic force on the continent

Nigeria will not go down easily. Therefore this creates tension between both countries.

Personall if the two countries temper their ego's they'll see it would be far better and less stressful to collaborate than to be adversarial.
