I think the problem is much deeper than Malema or Zuma, the greater issue is one of impunity by supremacist Whites, who perceive themselves as untouchable because of the weak handed treatment given to those guilty of apartheid crimes. That weakness on the part of the SA govt has made it seem that Blacks are too scared to handle injustice firmly and judiciously. Malema is the attack point of the racists because he is seen as the weak link in their onslaught against the ANC machine. I am not saying it is correct, but the songs Malema sings, pretty much everyone else sings (even kids).

On the above point I will clarify my view. The AWB are reminants of the distant past wanna be Trek-BOER(farmer) republics who hated the British and wished to isolate themselves from the then govt and even the Afirkanner nationalist party in 1948. They are no different from white country azz rednecks in the US who chose to live in obscurity in the rural areas away from urban/modern life and its government post civil rights and integration.

They feel that by doing so, they are preserving some sort of sense of identity and culture passed on by their European descendants. Like many fringe groups they seem to believe the changing world is a threat to their existence and once any set of people merge their survical instincts with their learned supreme moral value i.e Race purity and race superiority. The combination is disastrous to the human psyche and extremely hard to decipher.

Zuma i.e his advisers understand this history and are aware of the event about to take place shortly which will show case SA to the world. Therefore they cannot afford to politiciz this issue. The farmers/AWB on the other hand see this as an opportunity to get some air time and legitimize their grievancies to the international media, hopefully score some points. Malema is a target for this propaganda push and he is only too silly to realize this. The saffers lik RSA praise him as a strong person because he demonstrates defiance in the face of White propaganda. Nonetheless , we live in a world controlled by the media, primarily the Western media who are able to distort realities and channel this throughout the globe. If Malema falls on their left side he will be made a scapegoat and will only damage the Youth movement wing of th ANC and paint them as savage blood thirsty revengeful blacks who want to take revenge. They did it to Mugabe.

As mentioned above, societal inequalities were handled with kid gloves, in an almost idealistic way after South Africa's independence. There was a truth commission that simply berated murderers; while no firm plans went the equitable redistribution of wealth and skills, very little punishment for the unbelievably evil crimes of apartheid were meted out. As far as race relations are concerned, the SA govt looks very weak.
South Africa has the very same stresses on land ownership that exist in Zimbabwe, yet there are only token gestures at land redistribution. Surely, the South African govt is rich and skilled enough to put firm, long term plans in place toward equitable land ownership over a sensible period; but nothing concrete has been done.

The truth and recon commission was idealistic at best and a model of what Mandela hoped SA's would strive to emulate. As far as how far it went in truly healing the wounds of Apatheid. I cannot tell because I was not an eye witness. What I will say is that the ideal is much supported by me as Mandela stayed true to his values even after power changed hands. That is pure integrity and not revenge or hatred. A very unique human trait most of us rarely exhibit or possess for that matter.

The goverment did hear many land reform grievances during the Mbeki and Mandela years by many groups in SA including Griquas(colored khoi-people), Twshana, Basters, Zulus and so on however the fundamental miscalculation was in the management and full resource potential of these properties that were given back to the owners. No programmes to train these new owners or even plans to create any mutual deals to benefit both the whites and the new owners. Zimbabwe is a case study of what happens when you take a miltant approach.

Terre'Blanche was killed for not paying a monthly wage of 300 rand, but the average minimum wage in SA must be in the range of 1700 rand (not too sure of my figures, but not far off target).

There is a lot of impunity and the resulting bottled rage. We see that rage erupt explosively out of the townships every now and again because their cry for justice and equity has gone unheeded. Terre'Blanche was a victim of such anger.
The racial tensions in South Africa can be cured only if the govt bares its fangs and deals harshly with racial crimes, injustice, and wealth and land redistribution. As time goes by, punishments can be lessened, but right now SA needs a sledge hammer to instil discipline. I agree with the above highlighted however I believe the racial justice cases should go both ways, the wealth and land reforms with an innovative sense of the times by mutual aggreements with farmers in which a compromise is set if not set up adjudications to resolve issues. Just some history on underlying reason for resentment on land ownership and exploitation of SA black people.

The system wanted to create cheap labor to build its capitalist society and create wealth for the minority and at the same time segregate the majority community into so called homelands BANTUSTANS onthe guise that they were preserving their history. The same excuses being used by the AWB today of fears of violence.

make una stop this conflict. It has gone on long enough. I can't even go through your posts anymore cause its full of insults and deviates from the subject matter.

However I am in consensus with some points Sagamite has made when it comes to upskilling the SA farm workers and a sensible/equitable distribution of land only on the grounds that the land passing hands should be given to individuals or trustees who are able to show that they are capable of managing the resources effectively.

An example of this strategy was already practiced by one farmer in the cape winelands. He initiallly left SA post Apatheid from fear of retribution by his inherited farm workers and the land was repartirated to the farm workers who did not have the skill to manage the properties and there was almost zero productivity. He later came back with a british partner and they bought the land off the workers and rehired them.

He did however understand that there was a need for some sort of redistribution program in small portions that would benefit the workers on a long term basis and he and his partner created a scheme where a percentage of the workers salary woulud be pooled to send their children to good schools. Another portion of their wages would also go into purchasing certain segments of land which their children woudl inherit and also have the ability to manage if or when they chose to.

His system effectively would transfer wealth from the owner to the workers in portions over a period of time and to able bodied hands. A mutually beneficial system to both parties. Although this system requires that both parties are in agreement and one party does not delibrately try to manipulate the other, it is not an impossible scenario. Malema calls BBC journo a ‘naughty person’

There was high drama at an ANC Youth League media briefing at Luthuli House in Johannesburg on Thursday.
The party’s youth leader Julius Malema kicked a journalist out of the briefing on Thursday after calling the reporter a "naughty person".

He shouted at the journalist saying: “You are small boy, you can’t do anything. Go out, naughty person!”

Malema also accused the gathered media of being obsessed with him and so desperate to sell newspapers they were willing to write anything.
The atmosphere became tense as Malema started shouting at a BBC journalist for interjecting as he spoke.



“Chief, can you get security to remove this thing here,” he said to security referring to the reporter.

He said such behaviour would not be tolerated in Luthuli House and that the Youth League would not be undermined by reporters who wanted to run amok.

“This is a building of a revolutionary party and you know nothing about a revolution. So here you behave or else you jump.”
He also accused the journalist of treating him the way white people used to treat blacks, saying: “Don’t come here with that white tendency!”

Malema also accused reporters of having lost their minds and being obsessed about him.


“You have become obsessed with an individual and as a result you have lost your minds. All of you,” he said.


The comments come just weeks after a group of political reporters laid a complaint against the league’s Floyd Shivambu for threatening reporters who refused to run a story he was giving them.


During the briefing Malema said the ANC Youth League supported the leadership of President Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe.

Ventersdorp - The Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging (AWB) wants a piece of land for its people to govern and call their own, a spokesperson said in Ventersdorp on Tuesday.

"All we want is a piece of land in South Africa where we can settle ourselves and call it our own and govern ourselves with our religion, and our own laws," said organisation leader Pieter Steyn.

"We want a volkstaat, according to our own way and we don't want any Nigerians, drug lords, rapists, murderers or anyone else there, that's all we want," he said.

Steyn was speaking outside the Ventersdorp Magistrate's Court where the alleged killers of AWB leader Eugene Terre'Blanche would appear.

Confrontation

He said, following a tense confrontation between blacks and whites outside the court, that emotions were high but the organisation had told their members to keep calm.

He said a stand-off between the two groups in which police were forced to intervene was caused by a woman who was not an AWB member.

"Emotions are high right now, people are angry and cross but it is normal, we have requested our members to keep cool and calm and refrain from making racial remarks."

He said AWB members were fearful and that the black group were "playing politics" and were there to "agitate" them.

Police erected a razor wire fence between the two groups after the altercation.

There will always be inequalities that exist in any society and as humans we will never be satisfied with the unending thirst to want more even after given. The blacks have to live with the whites in this country if they are to prosper. A balance that is mutually beneficial to both parties must be struck. This is the underlying truth.

Continuing to compensate disenfranchised people without equiping them with the skill and intellect to manage and maintain these entitlements, from all other world examples, will lead to disaster in the long term. Revenge only begets Revenge.

Malema is a means to and end for the ANC to continue to garner support for the party so their voting constituents. The poor and improvished do not leave.

I understand the reason behind cherishing old freedom struggle songs and understand reasons for tyring to keep ones heritage. However i do not condone the continued use of such phrases as their time and context can be misunderstood and  seem offensive to other groups in SA.

What if the word "Boer" was substitued for "kill the makwerekweres" and advocates of such argue on the merits that it represents SA Africans issues with immigrations. Don't you think this sort of language incites rather than reconciles 'racial" issues.

Just came across this thread , big ups to RSA as im from Mzansi as well!! We generally focus on the negatives rather than complimenting the positives, which is why this world is the way it is.
Maybe its time someone in Nigeria post some ACCURATE positive stats so we can learn more from each other. But what I have noticed is how funny it is that Nigerians come to SA and within a month they think they know better about SA than the locals.
