MduZA: You cant provide your country stats either therefore your writeup is just another boy dream who is tired of having Egusi soap breakfast..You will scream on top of your voice when I tell you " ukuthi" you don't even know your own hiv status..HIV is rife in Nigeria..fact
Obi1kenobi: Africa has about 600 million hectares of uncultivated arable land, an incredible 60% of the global total. I'm not sure of the exact figures for South Africa specifically, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was like Zimbabwe where basically, the land that white farmers spent generations tilling and making fertile was the land coveted by Mugabe's goons even though millions of acres of arable land not held by white farmers lay fallow.
60% is the correct number for Arable land in Africa in total
As far as South Africa is concerned 87% of the most arable land is in the hands of the settler population even though they are a minority in number. That's not sensible, that's not right and that's not justice any which way you want to spin it.
You forget to narrate the reason Mugabe resulted to forced overtaking of land when the Lancaster agreements willing buyer, willing seller proposal was ignored and snubbed at by the British government that supported it in the first place.
Obi1kenobi: It's interesting that Africans have no problems with the ancient conquests of their ancestors (like how Shaka forged the Zulu nation), but white conquest is a guilt that white people must live with for eternity. Bantus are as much migrants to South Africa (from East and West Africa) as white settlers. Infact, white settlers arrived the Cape Colony in great numbers at a time it was barely inhabited by the Bantus (mostly Khoisans were found there). Friction came as the whites moved further North. I do not believe that there is some kind of "entitlement" to those lands, as if they were thriving agricultural hubs before the whites took over them and I do not buy that it "belongs" to the blacks.
This is the historical narrative aspoused by the Afrikaner settlers, its historical inaccurate.
Point 1. There were no mass conquests of lands in Africa by Tribal groups in antiquity. Shaka's conquest was more of an absorbing of the tribes he conquered into the Zulu nation, in reality the smaller tribes were already distant relatives of the Nguni's. He simply amalgamated them into one group. White settlers were far more brutal and unjust, driven by the then notion of these groups as having some sort of divine right to conquer the world, they were brute in their taking over of lands north of the cape.
There is contention with the notion of the time frame of the arrival of Bantu groups into South Africa. For certain they did not inhabit the Western cape colonies in mass but to the east, North east and what is kinda of central South Africa smaller groups are likely to have inhabited those areas along with the nomadic San people. There is significant interbreeding that is evident among the bantu and the san peoples of South Africa which likewise legitimizes their rights to the land as well in addition to Colored groups in the western and Northern capes who have Khoi ancestry as well, so technically speaking all "black" people including the Khoisan who are also "black" people constitute the original peoples of Southern Africa who inhabited lands in that area therefore collectively have a claim to the lands, especially the Arable parts.
Obi1kenobi: Look, I love to cite the success of Jewish people a lot when black people embrace the safety blanket that their only obstacle to progress is all the sins that whites have committed against them. Anyone who has studied what the Jewish people went through in Europe, while still thriving amidst disenfranchisement, discrimination and suppression that ultimately led to their near extinction in the Holocaust, and seen how they thrive today would just move on from the dark days of history.
If South Africa execute this, they will pay for it and they will regret it. I don't have a shred of doubt in my mind. They need to move on from their apartheid trauma if Julius Malema is not to lead them off a cliff. Those were very ugly days, but a modern race war is not going to help them.
In my humble opinion, it is not a race war, its the righting of an injustice, you cannot erase that. Its a reparations package which the Jewish people I might add got.
Again you cannot have 87% of arable land in the hands of less than 10% of the population when it was acquired unjustly. Conquest of lands is not an excuse not to hand it back to who had first rights on it. That is Ludacris. In the end this is an economics issue and not an issue of if black people hate white people or anything having to do with White guilt, those are emotional distractions.
Give the land to the owners, if they mishandle it, fine. They can contract back white people to come fix it for them and create a profit sharing scheme where the blacks get royalties from the use of the land and the "experts get compensated for their operations of the land.
Jkay187: Now morphy u just eluded to the fact that Nigeria has higher HIV numbers in total so that proves my point that some of your Naija brothers here are wrong when they come here and tell us whenever we argue or have a discussion that SA is hiv infested.
Their observation is somewhat understandable. In comparison as I have said, the probability of contracting HIV from unprotected sex in South Africa is higher than it will be in Nigeria even though in absolute numbers Nigeria will have a higher NUMBER of HIV incidents reported or unreported.
Jkay187: When looking at SA's access to hiv treatment it is currently the worlds biggest, now compare that to Nigeria and its access to treatment and stigma attached to hiv in nigeria especially in the North of your country it is safe to say you have a higher disease burden then SA if we include factors like TB also.
Until you can prove that Nigeria as a nation has better access to primary health care compared to SA, you must agree that your brothers in arms here on this thread is wrong.
Access to HIV treatment does not weigh in on the number of infected or the potential to become infected. It just means that those who contract it will have a better prognosis and the mother to Baby transmission will be at a lower to zero rate if detected early. Therefore you cannot uses this point successfully in this argument.
Even if I concede that Nigeria has a poorer health care system, it doe snot affect does not significantly affect the rate of transmission, NOTE I said "SIGNIFICANTLY affect the rate".
Fact still remains that you are more likely to contract HIV in South Africa than in Nigeria. A 1 in 4 infection rate and a 1 in 17 infection rate are not the same.
Jkay187: Despite global efforts to reduce the mortality rate of tuberculosis, TB, Nigeria still ranks high among the seven countries which account majorly for the disease globally. Nigeria ranked sixth among the countries with the global burden. Two of the major challenges (for Nigeria) have been the inability to detect cases and the battle against drug resistant variants of the ailment especially among people living with HIV/ AIDS. According to the global TB report 2017 released by World Health Organisation, WHO on Monday, there were an estimated 10.4 million new TB cases worldwide in 2016, 10 per cent of which were people living with HIV/AIDS. Of these new cases, seven countries are noted to account for 64 per cent of the total burden. India topped the chart followed by Indonesia, China, Philippines, Pakistan, Nigeria and South Africa. An estimated 1.7 million people died from TB, including nearly 400 000 people who were co- infected with HIV. The WHO said there has been a drop by 4 per cent compared to 2015. The health agency said global efforts to combat tuberculosis had saved an estimated 53 million lives since 2000 and reduced the TB mortality rate by 37 per cent. WHO said despite these achievements, the latest picture is grim. It said TB remains the top infectious killer in 2016 and that it is also the main cause of deaths related to antimicrobial resistance and the leading killer of people with HIV. Progress in most countries is stalling and is not fast enough to reach global targets or close persistent gaps in TB care and prevention. Also, according to the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme, over 80 per cent of TB cases were still undetected. Tedros Ghebreyesus, Director General of WHO, said while the world has committed to ending the TB epidemic by 2030, actions and investments do not match the political rhetoric. He said multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) remains a public health crisis and a health security threat. WHO estimates that there were 600 000 new cases with resistance to rifampicin – the most effective first- line drug, of which 490 000 had MDR-TB. Almost half of these cases were in India, China and the Russian Federation. The report argued for rigorous care and financing in tackling the epidemic especially in subset of high TB burden countries; as underreporting and under- diagnosis of TB cases continue to be a challenge, especially in countries with large unregulated private sectors and weak health systems. Also, according to the report, of the estimated 10.4 million new cases, only 6.3 million were detected and officially notified in 2016, leaving a gap of 4.1 million. India, Indonesia and Nigeria accounted for almost half of this global gap. Mario Raviglione, Director of the WHO Global TB Programme said ”the sheer numbers of deaths and suffering speak for themselves and countries are not accelerating fast enough.” ”Prompt action towards universal health coverage and social protection, as well as breakthroughs in research and innovations – will be critical to enable access to patient-centred care of the highest standards for all, especially the poorest, most disadvantaged people everywhere”, he said.
In the report it clearly shows Nigeria has an inability to detect.
Dubious analysis of the report you just read.
What the report is alluding to or insinuating is towards access to health care which lowers the chances of recording TB cases. How you find the nexus between HIB prevalent rates in Nigeria compared to South Africa, I am still scratching my head on that one.
In absolute numbers, Nigeria will always have a higher HIV rate than South Africa if that is the point you are trying to make but in relative terms the probability of getting infected with HIV is much higher if you sleep with a South African person because its a 1 in chance.
The treatment of HIV or access to health care services is a different animal on its own.
MduZA: 95% of so called natural deaths in nigeria are caused by Hiv-aids related illnesses, with only 1 percent of Nigerian population tested, your country is sitting at position 2 world wide with the highest number of people living with hiv..
Good day Mduza, Long time no hear your bull crap.
let me rebut your nonsensical statements
Point 1. Your 95% assumption is pure speculation, you cannot provide a shred of evidence to back that ridiculous statement. If you said 10 to 15% that would have been more plausible so lets throw that out the window.
THe second statistical figure is also nonsensical, even if 1 percent of Nigerians tested for HIV, a statistician could still extrapolate the potential numbers of HIV vicitms over a given period of time which would les to near accurate numbers coming out as the potential HIV infection rate in Nigeria, as they did when the ebola virus hit the country so chuck your point number two out the window
Go back to school instead of hanging out all day at Chis nyama drinking beer and faking your "blesser" status
Obi1kenobi: Whites own most of the arable land in South Africa, but the Afrikaners, like the displaced white Zimbabwean farmers, claim that they made the land arable and there's plenty of land to go around if the blacks work on the land rather than looking for ready-made arable land that has been tilled for generations.
To be honest, these are dangerous times for South Africa, and while it might feel a "righteous" redress of a historical wrong to go around seizing white people's farms which generations of their families devoted everything to tilling, it is not a prudent course of action and they will come to regret the capital flight, instability, loss of experienced, productive manpower and technical know-how and the racial tensions that will be resurrected after the post-apartheid "reconciliation". International condemnation, international sanctions and international pariah status will follow too. The US and British media have highlighted this threat and are watching very closely.
Move on from the past. Many are finding all sorts of reasons why their case will be different from Zimbabwe, but the cynic in me is 99% certain they'll be far worse off for it.
I do not see the "righteous" argument here. This is more an economic issue than a righteous one. Land ownership is economic power and a powerful means of production, what is wrong in returning the Land and setting up leases with so called expert farmers to come use the land "efficiently' and create a profit sharing scheme.
On the part of your loss of experienced hands and technical know how, why don't these experts device ways of selling their technological know how to the highest bidder, market their knowledge and still control certain aspects of production. They want to own it all.
How can 5 million people in a country of 50 million own 87% of the arable land. Does that make any sense to you?
omololu2020: can't the government just find another land for the people and let peace reign?
If you look at their history , these arable lands were seized from communities that resided on them, therefore the need to return them back.
They tried the willing buyer, willing seller idea that Zimbabwe had initiated but that is just a delay tactic by the White monopoly power structure. The Western cape has tried a different strategy of slowly incorporating the workers into land ownership swaps but this again is very slow and does not create the necessary economic effect on the disenfranchised class, so why not try this.
THe white monopoly powers are spinning this as another Zimbabwe but the dynamics are different and This is not necessarily an infringement on property rights but an equalization of past advantages given to people who believed they were divinely endowed with the "skills" to manage land better than the natives.
South Africa Just Voted to Seize Land From White Farmers
South Africa‘s parliament has passed a motion to seize land from white farmers without paying them compensation.
Passed by an overwhelming majority of 241 votes to 83 votes against, the proposal to amend Section 25 of the constitution would allow expropriation of land without any financial recompense.
It was put forward by the radical left Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party, whose leader Julius Malema told the country's parliament: “We must ensure that we restore the dignity of our people without compensating the criminals who stole our land.”
Jkay187: On the Hiv front your people are currently worse of then SA by all indices because we have a far better health system then yours including we test more people and unlike Nigeria we have gotten over the Hiv stigma. How many people are being tested in nigeria on a daily bases.
In Nigeria non of your politicians use your health systems, Buhari is a casing point. How many of your Leaders died in Foreign nations is another good indicator.
Let's stop this bs now.
Again facts without contextualizing.
The indices currently is 1 in 4 people in South Africa are potential HIV carriers, which points to the fact that if you count 4 people you know or they count 4 people they know 1 of them is potentially HIV positive or knows someone who is HIV positive, In my experiences interacting with SA , I find this statistic to be a good estimate. This extrapolation does not necessarily need the reporting of HIV statistics to prove its authencity.
Compare apples with apples and relativity to relativity.
Nigeria has a population of 170 million, in absolute terms its potential to have more HIV cases is larger compared to the population size of South africa, in relative terms it is easier for you to become HIV infected if you sleep with someone from South Africa, good health care or no good health care.
Jkay187: Now let me tell you a fact about Nigerians in SA. More often then not there are two types of Nigerians who come to SA. ]1 Are those who come here to look for work, study at our world class institutions or start there own businesses and those are in the minority. They come with degrees to SA and more often then not those qualifications are not recordnized by SAQA in SA and they need to be reskilled or write exams in order for them to become medical practitioners or whatever field they practice in. More often then not those with degrees are not qualified and they are the ones who illegal medical practitioners in SA.
There are more than 2 types of Nigerians that come to South Africa but a majority of them can be categorized as Skilled, semi skilled and unskilled migrants.
A class of skilled migrants find the transition seamless , they are highly trained most of the time affluent or retired person who are looking to relocate to a more stable country in terms of lifestyle.
Another class are semi skilled, those who have degrees but require additional training to penetrate the systems impediments created to protect the countries citizens or structures. These have to acquire additional skills to be able to enter the work force. They often do make this change and enter the system as required.
The third class are the ones you see en mass who are underskilled who travel to a country that cannot absorb them and are forced or willing enter into industries that are not very decent.
Jkay187: 2 Are those who come from your Igbo clans and come here more often then not with no formal education. They are the majority who come here with criminal intent and they are the most hated here in SA because of there activities which more often are in drug dealing, fraud or socalled front shops while committing other crimes like prostitution rings and human trafficking. There are more then 600 Nigerians in SA jails for criminal acts.
Now let's look at Hillbrow or Sunnyside where most Nigerians live in SA. Those places are being run down by property hijacking, drugs and prostitution mostly mostly run by Nigerian nationals and that's a fact.
This is fact however there is a statistical reason why it is fact and the perception you are aspousing is quite dubious and I will explain. It is easier for these unskilled migrants to transit to South Africa that it is for them to make their way to other countries with stronger economies that are able to absorb them, thsu the reason for their large numbers in South Africa. Simple stating fact without context is dubious analysis that is often biased.
Jkay187: Yes not all Nigerians abroad can be categorized as criminals where they migrate to but it is an undeniable fact that most of you will end up doing illegal activity wherever they reside. A simple example would be the way Nigerians are being perceived in countries like India, Singapore, China and Thailand go see how many are on death row in those nations and then compare those stats to the rest of africa.
This is another dubious analysis based on a biased mindset about Nigerians and a more deeper look will reveal the complexities of your simple minded answer
There are approximately 170 million Nigerians
An estimated 10 million reside outside of the country
Of that 10 million extrapolate the numbers is countries like south Africa, probably about 1 million. The rest do make it to more developed countries.
of the the 1 million in south Africa extrapolate the number of unskilled workers, I will be generous and say 80% o the 1 million that leaves 800,000 potential hoodlums and drug dealers,
Extrapolate the demographics, so remove women a 30% rate who are less likely to be drug dealers, children under the age of 18 who are dependents and at a 10% rate, it leaves 60% potential drug dealing class. that is a potential 480,000 drug dealing class of people in South Africa.
Now compare that to the entire population of SA which stands at 50 million and then concentrate those 480,000 in urban areas such as Hilbrow, sunnyside and the rest.
Then compare these numbers to the overall population of Nigeria at 170 million and you will see that your response or perception is downright ludicris.
Facts without context can be misconstrued.
Try to put things in an objective perspective and remove your bias. It will reveal more of the truth to you if you care to really know
My friend keep quiet, it is very true. Your girls loose die. Just buy one germison and a couple of savannah dry for them and dem go open leg for you sharp sharp plus dem dey cheat on their boyfriend and husband die.
