You have a B.Sc in Mettalurgical and Materials Engineering and you worked in a Bank. That is where the problem is. If you had worked in the bank for like 2-years now, and suppose you even get a job related to your field of academic study, how would you relate your past work experience with the position you are applying for. Meaning, you are going to start afresh, like a fresh graduate.

This is why I usually advise people against working in banks, especially when they dont have the requisite academic  qualifications. Why? because the day the bank administration is looking for who to sack, all those who read courses on the other side of the fence will be the first to go.

Slain Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden urged his children to go live peacefully in the West and get a university education, his brother-in-law said in an interview published Sunday.

Zakaria al-Sadah, the brother of bin Laden's Yemeni fifth wife Amal, told Britain's Sunday Times newspaper that the Saudi-born extremist believed his children "should not follow him down the road to jihad."

"He told his own children and grandchildren, 'Go to Europe and America and get a good education,'" al-Sadah told the Sunday Times.

Al-Sadah said bin Laden told them: "You have to study, live in peace and don't do what I am doing or what I have done."

Bin Laden was killed in a commando raid in May 2011 by US Navy SEALS at a house in the garrison town of Abbottabad, northwest Pakistan, where he had been living for several years.

Al-Sadah said that in November he had seen his sister for the first time since she was shot in the knee during the raid, and had since been allowed to have a number of meetings with her in the presence of guards.

He said the three wives and nine children who were in the compound -- some are bin Laden's children and others are his grandchildren -- have been held for months in a three-room flat in Islamabad.

They are guarded by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) spy agency, he said.

The Sunday Times published what it said was the first photograph to show some of the young children from the compound: two sons and a daughter, and two grandsons and a granddaughter.

The children were still traumatised after seeing the raid in which bin Laden died, al-Sadah said.

"These children have seen their father killed and they need a caring environment, not a prison -- whatever you think of their father and what he has done," he said.

A Pakistani commission investigating the raid said in October that it had lifted travel restrictions on Bin Laden's family and al-Sadah flew to Islamabad in November to take Amal and her children home.

But he said Pakistani officials had refused to let him take them.

There was no immediate response to the claims from Pakistani officials.

In Lagos, streets are blocked when someone in the higher ups is doing something / celebrating whatever. Worse is if the celebrant is a road-safety boss. I once counted over 25-road safety pickup-trucks, besides cars of visitors, parked on either end of a whole street, blocking entrance and exit, somewhere at Iyana Ipaja area, last yr 2011. In fact, they turned the whole street into a car park. By the time I made enquiry, they said, the daughter of a road safety Oga was doing introduction.

At the end of the day, if proper investigation is done into this allegation, as usual, it might be found out that CNSSL(http://www.cnssl.net/), the contracting company is an MTN insider / stakeholder.

On the other hand, a friend of mine works in a so called "telecommnications" company in Lagos. He told me a story of how some staff's salary(NGN20,000 per month) got an increment of NGN100 (one hundred naira) after 1-year.

I have a sister thats never been to Nigeria to live before(apart from yearly holiday :p) and we are all going back she has completed her HND and wants to apply for a top up degree in September 2012 to complete a full degree. She has two options either to do a Business management top up then graduate or do a Business Law as the top up course then graduate.
I don't understnad the idea but can you advise in anyway please. If she does Business Law I was thinking she can go to Nigerian Law school and seek employment after which gives her flexibility as she can get a business job eventually with the Business HND background plus business law. She's not smart with calculations but good in english, languages and reading. On the other hand I was thinking if she does her Top up in buisness management she'll do MBA and get a job simple. Which do you think is less challenging in this reccession yet gives a good career oppourtunity. Don't hold back your ideas we both don't know much about how anything works in Nigeria kindly advice, Thank you

No, I am not into human resources. Before, I use to blame my boss(a foreigner) that he was too choosy, his standards were too high, etc., when he would interview new applicants (engineering graduates) and out of 20-people refuse to pick just-1. So the guy called me to come sit in on one of the interviews.

After my sit-in, I began to get angry with the entire educational system in Nigeria. I never knew things were so bad. Over time when I began conducting the interviews myself, I realized that most times, CVs/Resumes do not really reflect know what / how, especially for fresh graduates. In fact, I wrote an article on my observations and sent it to the guardian - using fictitous characters. Over time, i realized that newly Univ-grad employeds were just being informed about somethings which I was informed about way back in High school - for example: General Science / Physics. I decided not to blame them, but the system that produces such.

1) I have a copy of a final examination paper(not with me presently) of the FUTA in Akure, an exam for computer science students for the subject: Computer Architecture - subject taken by 3rd/4th yr students(I dont remember which exactly). Can you really believe that question#1 is: DRAW AND LABEL A COMPLETE COMPUTER KEYBOARD? This wasnt a 197? exam. The paper was about 5years ago.

Now, I believe, some students might have scored a perfect mark on question#1 to pass their computer architecture examination - but the real question is: is the ability to draw and label a complete computer keyboard the definition of knowledge in the 21st century? Wouldnt it have been better to ask students to draw a block diagram of an ideal computer CPU? and describe the how-does-it-function of a complete computer.Or perhaps, they were only taught about the keyboard in the first semester and the CPU is meant for the second?

If we just taught our computer architecture students how to draw a computer keyboard in their 3rd/4th year, question: what did we teach them during : "Intro to Computing" class, wayback first year? or even in secondary school?

As I write this, I remember that when I did my NYSC. I and a couple of corpers usually went to assist a computer teacher in a secondary school in Abuja. I remember feeling so stunned out of my mind, the first day when I got to the secondary school(one of the GSSs) - and I saw this man teaching MS EXCEL with a chalk and a blackboard. I couldnt believe my eyes, in my wildest, most extreme and funniest imaginations. Both shock and surprise took hold of me at the same time.

The guy really drew horizontal and vertical lines all over the blackboard and was using his chalk to explain cell1, cell2, etc. Then he was writing numbers inside the boxes. On the lower left hand corner of the board, he drew the 4-arrow keys(up, down, left, and right); and was explaining how to use Excel. I couldnt imagine that a teacher would teach a student how to click using a chalk and a blackboard. At the upper part of the board, he drew the menus (File menu, Edit, etc).

I really didnt know when tears started rolling from my eyes; whether I so much felt pain for the teacher who was doing his best, or perhaps that he was wasting his gaddem time / wasting the time of the computer-class students / whether or not the teacher had recommended to his bosses the need for a physical computer / or for the students who showed so much interest but lacked resources, or for the principal of the school who I felt wasnt doing enough / perhaps he didnt know better; or for the entire system itself.

I assumed that somewhere, somehow, there would be an annual report about the school, and somewhere somehow, it would be stated that they had a computer class. I wondered why / if anyone had ever asked if there was anything that looked like a computer in the computer class. My colleagues, who were not surprised about the sight noticed me crying, told me about my tears, asked me why, but I couldnt just control myself, even when I tried to smile.

Continue: I championed the idea of donating 3-computers to the school. I donated my personal desktop. We gathered funds, and some of my colleagues donated theirs. The computer teacher showed some resistance coz he felt we were taking his job away from him. We brought the stuffs to the school about 2-weeks later. The principal was very happy. Before we arrived, they had changed the door of the computer class and added a new padlock.

The day we arrived with the computers, we couldnt power then on because there was no electricity. So for 1-year of NYSC, I and my colleagues rotated on who(pairs) to pay for renting a generator to take to the sec.school for computer class. 1-year after NYSC, I found myself in the area where the school was. Went there to greet the peeps. Unfortunately, our computer project had stopped after we stopped coming: because there was no electricity.

Now, can you see why some students fail Jamb?

No sir, it isnt a joke. I kept the guy's CV for keeps. He had a 2.1 according to his CV. I remember I was so stunned to think that the word NEPA came across the guy's mind when asked about the definition of electricity.

In fact, after the interview, I had to go ask some of my other colleagues what a 2.1 meant in the Nigerian University system.

Here is my take on the above. Mathematically speaking:

Eqa1) given: For example: the Bible says that God created man in His own image.
therefore: The above means that man has some characteristics/attributes which God Has and vice-versa. For example: God created man. Since man was created, Man has created so many things. For example: Nairaland, the internet, and the computer/keyboard in front of you.

Equation 2: What is man made of? :
we solve equation-2 as: Spirit(breath, which is actually Gods breath), Soul(this never dies) and Body(flesh, God made man from the dust of the earth. At death, the body returns to where it came from - Dust).

Substitute equ-2 in equ-1
therefore: God has His own kind of Spirit, Soul and Body.

Man's soul is Gods property: Man's breath is Gods breath: and Man's body is Gods dust(which He created at the beginning).

1) Jesus, which was with God since the beginning, and which was born as a baby, named Jesus and which grew up as a man (just like "a man" that was at first created in the image of God). As a child, he once told his parents that he was in His fathers house.
2) The Holy Spirit which descended on Jesus like a Dove and the Voice of God which said "this is my beloved son(man) in whom I am well pleased".
3) God - the soul part(just like that of man that never dies).

The Bible teaches that when Christians die, their body is buried, but their soul and spirit return to God?

So, when Jesus died, after 3 days, his Soul and Spirit(Gods breath) returned into Him, He physically arose and He returned to God (just like the rapture of man eventually will look like).

God is not a name - you are right. But He has some attributes that we(man) do not have. So He has the whole world at His call and beckon and can choose who/where/what/ to manifest himself as.

And really, didn't God tell us His name?
At His birth in the form of a body called Jesus, His name was called: Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

One major poroblem with Islam is that there is a great difference between Quoranic Teachings and the Islamic practice.
